There are thousands of different dialects of American English....from North to South or East to West. If the dictators could speak proper English and enunciate clearly,
if the supervisors didn't bounce MTs off of QA in less than a week and then gripe at everyone about leaving blanks, if the account specs were clearly delineated, if the pay was worth a darn, if the QA feedback was constructive and consistent, then maybe the MTs would care about quality and loyalty.

It's a dialect, not a language. As for my ancestors, I have traced my heritage to Ireland, Czech Republic, and Poland. I'm well aware of my roots. But I don't live in those countries, I live here. I wouldn't move somewhere I couldn't understand or be understood.
It sounds to me like you're one of the bleeding heart liberals, who wants to keep letting more in when we can't take care of the ones we have. Do you enjoy your work being sent overseas to people who can't understand "English"? Do you enjoy making a lot less per line because of that?
I feel sorry for you and your ignorant bliss of what this country is becoming. I'm pretty sure you're outnumbered on this board, too. You have taken a comment out of context to suit your own soapbox. My point was, if they want to offshore work, why not send them their own dictators? There are hundreds on this board everyday complaining about the ESL's - hence the acronym - and yet I see nothing from the "cat" to those commenters.

I spent about a month in India and they do speak English but sometimes I had a hard time
understanding the way they pronounced the words so I would ask them to spell it.
Does it really matter what language they speak when another American loses a job to outsourcing?????

which board it was on, this one or gab? Anyways, I had said to possibly use call blocking to block your sister, or to unplug your phone for 15 minutes or so during the period she calls you back. I remember someone else suggested having her number blocked but have her calls forwarded to a cell phone if you have one. I'd look into another phone line as suggested below; they are not that expensive (get it with no LD, just the basics and use it for your virtual call center if you can). You can write off the cost of your phone lines on your taxes on Sch. C, so they do help offset your taxes some. Or you could just try to do an extra 300-500 lines a month to cover the cost of the phone line. Good luck.
The Amazon one appears to be a current
edition and the CD that comes with it is an outdated spellchecker and not the dictionary on CD-ROM. The Stedman's one is just the CD and they are always more than the book. The have more detailed info on the CD. I have an older version of the book and I think I've used it 2 times in 10 years. When I update my Stedman's now I buy the CD and I might use it more if I had it on CD versus the book, though with their CDs now you can only install it twice. They also have the book, but it is about $50.
Check the classified board here and check half.com. You can most likely find it cheaper at either place.

when I checked they still have the account and the account is up to date. Since direct deposit is an option, I figure there are some who do not realize they didn't get paid yet, since I was told everyone on that account did not get paid. Why would they keep the account if they did not get paid by the client? Tried calling the labor board and left a message for a call back. I will have to see what I can do. Thanks for your response.

Make your decision, but I won't work for a company who has affiliation with any overseas company or employs overseas workers. Their website shows they are based out of New York, but this India link indicates they do business in India. This is only my opinion based on my internet search.

What we post, jobs posted, and those who are posting jobs have no way of knowing it is off shore because he is hiding it - what a great way to get more of our jobs - not sure why this does not bother you. But as an American it bothers me

English Ivy all over
It's in our back yard, couldn't stop it from growing if we tried. It wraps around our mailbox, which is actually very pretty.... it doesn't even die during our winters here. But it is woody, unless you get some of the ends farthest away from the dirt. Look closely and you'll see small roots sticking out from the stalk. You can either put those directly in dirt, put in water, or rooting hormone helps it take off faster. We're in the south and that stuff grows everywhere. I would give it away gladly just to cut a lot of it away. Good luck!

Officially maybe it isn't but the majority as you say are English. I just think some people who come here should take the initiative to learn English more than they do.
I think I get fustrated because I have a Mexican who lives nearby and came over to the U.S., as many do, illegal. She has a green card to work and all but she isn't a citizen. Well she will not study her English more and can't hardly communicate. It fustrates me because she needs to make more of an effort to learn English where not only can she be understood more but she can understand us more. She can speak English just barely.
That is where a lot of my fustration comes from with foreign dialect. A lot of Mexicans come over here and think we should learn Spanish to communicate with them. Well if they want to live in the U.S. they can learn English. Some of them do learn and you can communicate with them. But some have a chip on their shoulder that they are going to speak Spanish and we can just adapt to it or the government should make provisions for it. Well we did not ask them to come here so learn it or leave.

True. There are so many dialects here in the U.S. I am from the south, and I went up north and they talk entirely different. Just different accents, different ways of saying things. They looked at me like where in the heck did you come from.
But with the ESLs I just get plain fustrated because I feel like they aren't making a effort to speak where I can understand them sometimes. And some of them do make the effort. They do and you can tell. They are trying. But those others really chap my *ss.

I thought all foreign MD's had to pass the ECFMG (Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates). Maybe this just verifies their information insofar as medical school, etc. and clinical skills assessment. I thought they had to pass an English exam, also.
I agree -- there are too many people walking around not knowing or using the English language. If they want to live here, they should at least like our country and not fly our flag upside down, etc. AND SPEAK OUR LANGUAGE. I have no problem with foreigners coming over here. My only problem is with foreigners coming over here and not respecting our language and culture.

My accounts are 95% ESL. I love them. I can do them. It's job security, thanks to the MTs who can't or won't do them. As long as I can hear them and the technical quality is there, I welcome the ESL challenge!

I'm lost as to why doctors can not just speak more clearly. I know it is possible, I have many doctors who do it. I am only 25, and I am going to be gray by the time I am 30.

from an MT into a English Teacher
Am thinking of getting some education units (degree hopefully) to become an english teacher. I have been an MT for roughly seven years, five months give or take including schooling. But since i feel that Big Company (fourth down upper left panel of your screen, starts with "m") that says they dont outsource, but we cant be be so sure. I feel that the work is not anymore paying well right now. (maybe im just not getting the big breaks) I feel that i have to check my alternatives - cause im not getting any younger. Its tough out there but i think that god will provide.
