I've done this 25 years. I've always been superfast at typing; in 6th grade I was typing 90 wpm. LOL
Just as important as speed, though, is that I rarely have to look anything up. RARELY -- Not saying I do NOT have to - just not often. I also set limits on how long I will search before I blank it. I am not penalized for blanks at either company.
Put EVERYTHING into your word expander. EVERYTHING. ANYTHING.
Kids in school will help.
My PERSONAL habits: Don't eat or drink while you type. Eat lightly for meals before and during you shift. I dress because it makes me more aware that I am WORKING -- keeps me from feeling lazy or that I want to nap, etc. I set goals by every 2 hours and then take about 5-10 min break. I also keep in mind as I am typing what I am specifically typing for at that time; at the first of the month, it's rent, utilities, then it's car insur, then gas, then groceries, then spending money, etc. I spend a weekend every month out of town; I catch up on sleep, studying, quiet time, sit-and-stare time, eat out. Mainly that helps during the school year when I have MUCH more going on than in the summer. I find some time everyday (especially in the summer when I am not in class and don't necessarily HAVE to get out every day) to be OUT of the house for whatever reason.
Let me know if you have any more questions.
I am HAPPY to help anyone I can. I believe most anyone can IMPROVE their speed and quality.
