CCCS
Consumer Credit Counseling Services is free. I have never heard of having to pay a fee for example $20.00 per month. Couldn't the $20.00 per month be going towards your debt. What is the fee for? CCCS works with the creditors to reduce interest rates, etc. You pay them a monthly amount based on the debt amount, and they will disburse checks to your creditors. Most creditors work with CCCS.
I went through consolidation with CCCS
not sure its the same one as you mention. I had upwards of $18,000 on 4 cards with payments of over $600 a month, with all the cards over 20% interest. My payments were cut to 350 a month, and all but one of the cards lowered their interest rates to below 10%, with one card charging no interest at all. Sears, of course, was the lone creditor that would not lower their interest rate. I DID try negotiating a lower rate myself first; one card would lower the interest for a year, but the others would not; I guess it depends on the creditor. At any rate, I'm paid in full now after 4-1/2 years. They did charge a nominal fee of $5.00 a month for the service.
We went with CCCS about 4 years ago.
Although the interest rates were not lowered very much, it did stop all late pay fees and such which made a huge difference in how fast the balances were able to go down. I don't believe it has affected our credit much, and even if it has, I don't particularly care. I will never go down the credit card road again anyway. Cash all the way. What I can't buy or do with cash, I don't need.
Baaaad experience with CCCS
As soon as I signed up with them they sold out to another company. After paying my monthly amount faithfully for over a year, none of the balances had even budged. Some of the balances had incurred hundreds of dollars of "late fees" because some creditors never received a proposal. My monthly fee to CCCS was $25.00. You have to pay the monthly balance by bank check or money order (no personal checks accepted) and make sure it gets to them on time. I was mailing my payments out 10 days in advance and they were "late" every time.
$5000 later, my total debt increased by over $5000. I should have spent the money filing bankruptcy.
That's funny because after we went through CCCS our score went up significantly. nm

are you pleased
??
I was very pleased (sm)
So pleased, in fact, I became one of their affiliates. Their course is very comprehensive, and their staff is super. I now have a web site telling my story and how to become an MT and work from home. I love what I do and get asked all the time how to do it. I took the course in 1999 and am still going strong! Visit my web site if you would like more info on Career Step. Good luck!
We are so pleased.
I think I speak for a lot of the medical transcriptionists who view this site. It is so nice to have the help and support of other medical transcriptionists around the country. Thank you so much for giving us this free website to use for entertainment, discussion, education, etc.
very pleased with results (sm)
I had never heard of it until I read it on the post a few days ago. Finally got around to trying it last night. Felt great. I made the mistake of using too much water at first too but then I tried again with just a tiny bit of water and used a cotton ball to apply. Awesome. I was pretty sold on the Mary Kay Microdermabrasion which I use about once a week. Now I may not restock on that product and it is not cheap. I bought the store brand aspirin and it worked great. Thanks to the person who brought it to this message board.
I had it done a few years ago. I am pleased with it. nm

Congratulations! You should be pleased!
Used it for the first time this year and very pleased. sm
We had a deduction we had no idea existed and would not have come across if we'd done it by pen and paper. We also received our refund very quickly, less than 2 weeks direct deposited. It did take a long time to go through the whole process, longer than expected, but we will definitely use it again next year.
pleased to meet you, hope
you guessed my name . . .
I've been pleased with Bayscribe ... sm
I think it's a lease/rental all-web-based rather than a big install with equipment.
It seems to be pretty easy to update account specifics and MD rosters, templates etc.
I can't use the bayscribe Expander at the same time as my personal expander so I use my personal expander; however, most people seem very happy with the Bayscribe expander -- it's fast, etc.)
It has a pretty good autosave feature in the event of power outage or user error.
The sound quality is very good.
Oh, and it has a really -- imho -- great review QA feature that lets you do side by side comparison on all blanks, qa corrections, etc. making it much easier, faster and on-point to review QA.
Check it out online.
I look at the jobs posted and tons of MTs are applying. I am employed but not terribly pleased with
prefer OPs and have done MT work for about 16 years. I have worked for MQ for 11 years for the Univ. of Pa. which they lost and now I am working for a small company in Michigan with just tons and tons of crap work. I would like an IC job with OPs if possible.
Our refineries are closed
Our refineries to make gas are located in the gulf coast area. They were evacuated by the major oil companies on Saturday and Sunday and now they are caught up in the same damage as everyone else. Long lines and high gas prices because no one is currently manufacturing gasoline to supply those of us east of the Missippi, making what we have left from before the storm quite precious.
closed captions!
I put the TV on mute, but with closed captions on while I type. I hear with my ears, but read the tv with my eyes. I amaze people with this - and have been doing it for a decade!
closed caption
Thank you very much for the info. Guess I'll stick with my MT career....but may still look into other avenues. :)
closed pneumothorax?
Closed pneumothorax is air entering from the lung. Open pneumothorax is air entering from the outside.
This thread is closed. (sm)
I do want to comment that it is not being closed due to comments by the original "Mary" poster. It is, however, being closed because of everyone else's responses.
If you don't like the direction a thread is moving or disagree so strongly that you cannot make good contributions to the subject matter at hand, simply refrain from posting. It will die down, take a different direction, etc.
A thicker skin needs to be grown here. Everyone has their own opinion. It doesn't mean everyone will always agree. Threads can even get intense but they don't have to dwindle to personal insults.

Maybe, Live Help Closed is in caption (nm)

heaven should be closed to most IRS agents
As soon as possible, talk to an attorney who specializes in this. Ask them if you can file Chapter 13 bankruptcy. In many cases, you can ultimately pay up to 10% of a past owed date.
While this is being haggled in the courts, you can send money, or not. You will have the protection of the federal government, who will handle another branch of the federal government.
Just never miss a single payment to the courts.
IMO, a thread is closed when it is obvious
that nothing new is added to the OP and it deteriorates into a 'troll', unjustified insults, foul language and just tit for tat, going in circles.
True, as the moderator pointed out, it is not moderated for 'niceness.' but the post has to be civil. One can make a stronger point with politeness than with disrespect.
I am considering CART or closed captioning..
But I wonder that after transcribing for so many years, will my fingers be able to learn the theory needed to use the equipment. I would like to do the real-time captioning, as from what I have read, pays the best. Does anyone have any first hand knowledge or know anyone in this field?
How about zillions of accounts. MQ has these accounts so overloaded even the new hires dont have any
work. I would love to read some of these reports and then they expect perfect QA and no blanks. Did they lose their minds completely.
"edit my reports with eyes closed"? what has that got to do with anything?
i don't live in a cave. i have a circle of local friends and family. i don't need an e-mail from a supervisor from gawd knows where to tell me i'm doing a good job. i'm doing a good job as evident by my paycheck twice monthly and my friends who want to spend time with me.
Now about this phrase - "I've been doing this over 10 years, independent and believe me I could probably edit your reports with my eyes closed my dear" WTF is that all about?
"edit my reports with eyes closed"? what has that got to do with anything? -
What are you rambling about about and could you PLEASE address the question asked of you in my TWO posts.
"edit my reports with eyes closed"? what has that got to do with anything?
WTF does this mean?
that was a judgemental and closed-minded comment

I closed my Delta Skymiles account. I won't fly with
them any more. Besides that, they tried to kill me and about 200 other people during one flight. Dang near crashed the plane and gave us all heart attacks.
closed captioning and court reporting
You should still consider it. If you are young enough to invest 4 to 5 years of school and entry experience, it may well be worth it. It certainly pays well, double to triple what medical transcription pays. Look into it.
I looked into the closed-captioning thing, and - sm
unfortunately (and quite OBVIOUSLY, if you ever see them in places like the gym, etc.), they are pretty much going to voice-recognition.
It's pretty funny reading all the misunderstood words VR does on TV! At least it makes the nightly news somewhat entertaining!
I had a friend go into court-reporting at the same time I went into MT. She tried to convince me to join her, but I (stupidly) picked MT because I knew I could get a job in only about 6 months while still working, whereas she was a full-time student and said that although you can learn it in a couple years, it takes a few more to really get up to speed, and start breaking into the job market.
So, let's see. That was back in 1975. She's still a court reporter, works when she wants, has good security, makes good money, put her kids through college, etc. And I don't have squat. Now I'm kicking myself for being so short-sighted and impatient back when I had a chance to get into a good middle-class line of work, instead of this __________! (Fill in the blank).
Post makes no sense. They need the closed

It is going to be very interesting to see how you people feel once your office is closed and you are
moved into a regional office on DQS and find that there are tons of other MTs on the accounts you always had. It is coming for everyone so you might be singing another song as time goes on. Enjoy it while you can. Time are changing.
Is this Holiday a major one? Clinics and offices closed?
I guess I am out of it. How big of a holiday is this? All the kids home from school today? Post offices and banks closed? Seems rather quiet work-wise. Wondering if I should start cleaning the house or keep staring at the no jobs to do in my queue.
Thanks!
closed caption tv typing and court stenographer
You know the closed caption on TV programs, especially the Court TV transcripts....I wonder if those are computer-typed or human-typed. If they're typed by humans, then any one of us could do a hundred times better, as there are typos all over the place!
While we're on the subject....I wonder how much money a court stenographer makes, and wonder if it's more of a pain than it's worth. They don't look very comfortable when they're typing in to their little machines. Anyone know?
I thought I heard the Atlanta office was closed? Was I mistaken? nm

Veteran's day. Kids are out of school. Many doctor's offices are closed.

Auto Recovery will not help. She saved over the original and closed the file.

Well your statement sounds equally closed-minded to the one you're arguing with
Where one person prefers to live and why is their own business and no reason to diss someone else's personal choice.
Awhile back there was a job posting for a typist to do closed-captioning TV show transcrips...sm
does anyone know the name of that company? Any information would be appreciated.
The accounts are old and she keeps her accounts TRUSTING she hired the right MTs
who if in doubt will ask questions regarding reports. No one can find all mistakes in all reports and that is human to have a report with perhaps a typo. You think anyone reads through all the reports of a national company before they get to the hospital? Not a chance. Some random QA is supposed to correct all mistakes? Not hardly. Doctors/dictators make mistakes too. We all do. So do QA people. So the thing is this person hires good people who are trustworthy, the hospital likes the way she does their account and life goes on quite nicely w/o hovering editors/QA people. BTW, who QAs the QA people on your accounts. Ever wonder?
How do you handle
Your first year as an IC regarding taxes? Should I go ahead and set up some type of payment plan like that?
What? That's what you can't do - handle someone else having a
Take your own advice, please.
here's how i handle it N/A
when enrolling my son in high school they wanted all sorts of information like that about family history...i left all blank with N/A....
They also wanted his social security number....N/A There is no reason in the world they should need his social security number and I asked about this.. They said it was for when he signed up for college loans etc. I told them he's not in college yet and I would not be furnishing that information to anyone.
In a post below someone said something about ppl being over paranoid these days....I had my identity stolen a few years back. It nearly destroyed my credit, wiped out my bank accounts, and took me literally years to clean up. In this day and age you can never be too careful with privacy. You just cannot be sure what anyone is doing with your private information. Better safe than sorry.
How do you handle if you are an IC??
You need to know how to handle these people. sm
They will try to get you to work like a dog, your fingers to the bone. You just tell him no. I will work x number of hours a day and that is it. That is what I did and it worked out fine. They will try to push you to work 24 x 7 if they can. That is the way they are (men from India). Just hold firm and they will accept it. You need to be "thick-skinned" I think to be able to work with them.
My DBF can't even handle the 2 hours
that he watches them every evening. They drive him nuts. He doesn't help with the cleaning, cooking, laundry, and like I said-those 2 hours from 8pm to 10pm, I don't really get much done cause they are in the next room screaming-him included. It's not fun. He does his best with them....when he takes them places in the evening, but of course, this can't happen every night. (I'm ready to bail in the relationship anyway) Just be so thankful to those of you who have "adult" spouses, he's like a big kid, leaves clothes all over, etc, doesn't know where the garbage can is. He is still in the dark ages I'm afraid when it comes to "women in the house, barefoot and pregnant" attitude. He's only 39. Blames it on the way he was raised. K. It's 2005, get with the program. It's a lost cause.
easy to handle
Merely sent an email. In the subject line put MTSTARS (company name) so when you get a response you have the details.
Merely say, I have a couple of question prior to sending in a resume or testing taking. This saves time on both sides.
May I ask, what is the lowest to the highest rate of pay. What pay rate formula is used, for example, by the line, by the minute, by the word, by the gross word. Are spaces paid, ALL spaces.
some in their ads say "we pay for ALL spaces" so I guess some companies pay a percentage.
For instance Medquist does not pay for the demographic screen, the CC notation or the headings. and prob more that is not known. .
You need to know how to convert this to an hourly rate so you know how much you actually are making.
Below is a quote from a company in Texas TSI and I sat down with the calculator and figured some of the hourly rates. For the most part, way too many lines for most MTs
Below is the quote in email from TSI. The calculated figures are mine.
.____________________________________________________
Less than 1000 lines per day average = 6 cents (these we consider to be part-time positions and we really prefer to work with full-time employees.)
1000-1100 average lines per day = 7 cents
(this is $70 for 8 hours ($8.75 hr)
1200-1399 average lines per day = 7.5 cents
This is $90. for 8 hours $11.25 hr and 150 lines an hour about almost 4.5 pages/hr. This is a lot of pages/hr.
1400-1599 average lines per day = 8 cents
This is 1400 X 8 = $112 per 8 hr.
8 divide into $112=$14/hr
1400 lines divide 8= 175 lines/hr
Figure 34 lines/page+ 5.41 pages an hour.
No way I could do this. I would not work for 6,7,8,9- no less than 10 and this is not really great. You cannot predict what you will end up with. You could be on target and lose it all, wham. .
1600-1799 average lines per day = 8.5 cents
1800 or greater average lines per day = 9 cents So then this would be:
225 lines per hour, about 6.61 pages
112 lines 30 minutes, 3 1/2 pages
56.2 lines 15 minutes 1.65 pages
nearly 4 lines per minute
Well over one million keystrokes/8hr
.
Here's how I'd handle the situation...
First off I'd tell my mom that he's a pig and what he has done.
Secondly I'd never be around him without a recording device turned on in my pocket so that way you can record his comments, and if he touches you or flirts then get a recording of your asking him to not touch or look at you that way and his response. Then play the recording for your mom and other relatives.
While it may be true your mother may go into denial you need to stand up for yourself. My mom was a fool and protected my father when she was told about his untoward advances towards women for years.... and then something happened that made her realize that she had been a fool for years and that he was the one with the problem.
Here is an even nicer way to handle it!
I totally agree with having her over in YOUR space and being nice to her. Tell her you can hear everything through the walls and celings (blaming them was a good idea) Tell her other things BESIDES her that you can hear. Tell her what you do for a living and what times you work, and how those "other" noises are so distracting. You don't have to tell her she is too loud; she will surely get the picture if she has any sense at all. If that doesn't fix the problem, then I would go to the manager and ask if there have ever been other complaints about her first. He/She may already know this is a problem. You never know how people will react if you tell them you would appreciate it if they would be quiet, no matter how nice you say it. I would have her over for snacks and a "chat" real soon though or you will go insane!
And another one who can't handle reality.
