Ebonics
Ebonics was the name for the dialect in the US also known as 'black English' - where that becomes dat, neighborhood becomes da-hood. Grammar rules also get turned on their head. As in: 'We be goin' to da sto... ya want some chickin'?

Now before anybody slams me for explaining this - go look it up yourself. There was a movement about 20 years ago to actually accept Ebonics as an alternative form of English.
One that speaks EBONICS. - nm
!
Thank you so much 'Explaining Ebonics'!
You strike me as a very nice person.
Yes, DeeAnn answered my question, very clearly, and I thanked her.

About blanks and markers:

If I cannot hear something well, I type 5 underscores, then I send a 'note' to my QA
with _____ 2:30, what is the time marker.
This is no problem, I KNOW this.

My particular question was, how shall I 'mark' it for the QA in case I THINK I heard correctly, but I am not sure!
Shall I put the questionable word berween 2 question marks, like that: ?bezoar? or shall I just put _____ and the time marker?

Did you finally understand what I mean with my question?

Is it a stupid question? Is it possible that the so experienced MTs (???) therefore thought that I might be Indian? And it had right from the beginning nothing to do with my grammar or my syntax?

I think this was what paranoid 'curious' assumed that I just asked a question that was too stupid to be asked by an US MT.

On this board it is always emphasized:
There are no stupid questions.

What hypocrites.
Thank you, Explaining Ebonics, this all
makes sense and is very logical to me.

Isn't this then also the same problem when we correct VR?

Then we first read the word in the downloaded document, then listen to it, then think what it might be.

So we are confronted with 3 versions, sometimes.
I am so against ebonics and I live in the south
Here close to Atlanta it is ridiculous to hear all the time. It is so different from what you describe above. I would rather had a very fast, slurring of words physician speaking than to hear a professional using English wrong. I actually was having a very big problem with it before moving from Atlanta and hearing it day in and day out on the news channels. I really had to tune it out, that is how bad it was. I did not allow it spoken in my home, ever and by the way, it was being offered in the lower grades in school. Some blacks, as in my post above, consider speaking without ebonics, speaking white. What a shame!
I was referring to the "anymore", not the ebonics.
nm
meant to include ebonics is used and accepted
in this town. The schools are 95% segregated in the town. Very old southern roots. They do not care for change. Teaching children to speak properly is considered taking away from their "heritage". Why we moved here? Not really sure. People are very nice though. You are in the minority if you can speak, write, or read properly. Also, it is 100 miles or so SW of Columbus, GA, 30 miles or so NE of Albany
If you've never heard of Ebonics, you can't possibly be in NY
Unless you just landed from another country.

Sorry, but I would assume at the very least (and I mean VERY least) 80% of Americans know what Ebonics is.

The very fact you took 'dat' to be a slam to Indians kinda shows something struck a nerve with you.

If you live in NYC as you claimed earlier, I doubt you've been here long.

Flame away, knock yourself out...You sound LESS American with every post. I fail to see how someone inquiring if you were in India would result in such pure unadulterated outrage unless a nerve had been struck.

I'm outta this thread and off to work.

I want to thank 'Explaiing Ebonics' and 'Happy MTRobin'
for their comments.
These 2 are the only ones who showed to have a brain when answerin g my 1st question.
I am not Indian, not black, I live in New York. I am white and I have no contact with people who talk Ebonics.

To all the others who gave 'paranoid', actually 'stupid' comments to my question that opened this thread, I PITY you and get some education or visit a psychiatrist.

Definitely the most deranged poster is 'NOT PARANOID/NOT WORRIED.

*Ebonics* refers to the street slang, etc. (often heard in -sm
rap music, etc. Lots of white people, Hispanics, and even some Asians (all gangsta' wannabes) speak Ebonics as well. It's practically a second language in itself, so referring Ebonics-speakers to ESL isn't off the mark at all.
got the "phone call" -- get this, MQ has hired a bunch of telemarketers to call all of us to

we received our "incentive packet."  They don't even have the wherewithall to contact us personally.   These are temp-agency hired telemarketers sitting around a boiler room making sure we're reading our mail.... told him it don't pertain to me because I've been demoted from FT to SE.... He said, "yes, the letter is vague, but it does pertain to FT as well as SE...." yeah right, we'll see.

*70 will disable call waiting unless you are expecting a call and want it on (nm)
x
Ebonics: Not a black thing or white thing. (sm)

I don't think there's any cause to get upset or defensive here.  Look it up on line...even colleges are offering courses in Ebonics!  ...well of course they are more sociology-type courses, but still, people are PAYING to learn about the why's and how's of this "other" language.

A quote from one of the sites I found:

"UT-Austin's "Introduction to the Study of African American English," teaches students that the sentence, "Nobody didn't leave" is not "mainstream English with mistakes," but rather a legitimate English dialect. "Ebonics: Myth and Facts" and "African-American English" are both offered at Harvard. Penn and UCLA also promote Ebonics as a legitimate dialect in, "Introduction to African American and Latino English" and "Afro-American Sociolinguistics: Black English," respectively."

On-call requires on-call compensation by law
This field gets more disgustingly grotesque daily.
Call me, call me anytime.
I'm waiting to hear back on a job.  Call me!
Call KS and call your bank. Why ask here?
.
If they don't call you within 15 minutes, you should call them. There
is no excuse for leaving you sitting by a phone all day. At the very least, an e-mail explaining why the delay. If this is the way they train, how do they pay. Do you really want to work for a company who thinks so little of your time?
Call the doc and get an Rx....sm
My 3 kids had hand, foot, and mouth disease and the lesions in their mouths was just awful!! When they got chicken pox about a year after that one of my kids had them in her mouth and the doctor prescribed the same mouth rinse. They swished it around and spit it out and they stayed numb for hours! They finally got rest that way and so did I!! Go luck to you and hope all is well soon.!
you may need to call the doc (sm)
cause when I had the chicken pox, the same think happened to me and they did spread to my throat and became infected.  I had to take antibiotics...I remember so well cause I was 13 YO when I had them.  Also, it is Maalox and Benadryl, and viscus lidocaine, but I think that is Rx only.  I'd call the doc if it were my child.   give them a hug for me, I know how they feel!
I would call
your local humane society first and speak to them about the matter.  First, do a little investigation while your neighbors are gone.....does the dog have fresh water and food during the day?  Does he have shelter at all times from the sun or from storms?  It is totally a bad thing for any animal to be kept on a chain.  Look real hard and try to find out anything they are doing wrong with that poor pup.  Actually just calling the humane society or animal control about his constant barking should bring them out to talk with the owners.  Let us know how it goes for you.  I know it has been unpleasant for you but, as you apparently realize, it is even worse for that dog.  This is your chance to help him.
call first

I would contact Hotels.com first to see why they only reimbursed partial.  That is ridiculous.  I would be upset.  How long ago did they bill your credit card?  I'd call your credit card company and dispute the charge.  Most credit card companies will fight it for you.

Good Luck!!

You call that a different POV?

the point is how this person has attacked the OP.  They were rude and it was uncalled for.  so the next time you have a concern and bring it here, we can rip you apart instead of give support and you can chalk it up to it being a different POV.

I get so SICK of some people trying to make excuses for bad behavior.

We call them
PIG NUTS up here!  LOL  They are good, though.
call in 1-800
MedT:

idigital through transcriptiongear.com is very very reliable. You pay for what you use. I have been with them for over four years now and you dont worry about anything.. Check out the website and give them a call.
On Call Pay..
I know someone who works as a computer tech. When she is on call for a weekend, she gets paid $3 an hour for every hour she is given "on call" duty, so basically from 5 p.m. Friday to 8 a.m. Monday, she is paid $3 an hour, whether she has a "trouble" call or not. When she does get a call it is usually 15-30 minutes to deal with it, and it rarely happens. I think she has a great deal. She is not a transcriptionist, but is employed by a hospital.
On Call Pay
Thanks Pam. That gives me an idea of price range.
I can see why you call yourself that!
Spheris is hiring over 1500 US MTs THIS YEAR ALONE, you idiot. It's laughingly obvious that you're a disgruntled worker or EX. LMAO I hear McDonalds is hiring. LOL

Everything in your post is bogus. Just an angry dissidence. LMAO
I will call them
I will call them once I get DSL in my area. It isn't available here yet.
Why are we getting a call
to ask if we got the packet yet when we are not supposed to get it until October? This seems really weird to me.
The call...

was very friendly. Medquist will now offer:

1.  15 cpl/line for each and every MT regardless of ASL or regular transcription.

2.  If work runs out each MT will be guaranteed compensation at their average hourly salary until work does come in.

3.  All offices will be run exactly the same way.

4.  If U believe all this, I do have a rather nice bridge in Brooklyn to sell...

No call yet either
I am still waiting for my call regarding the Rewards Plan. Letter is dated 9/2 and today is 9/14; that is almost a couple of weeks. The packet will come sometime in October so we will probably get a call a few days before it comes so we won't have enough time to look it over.
What should we call him?

Call whoever you want to
Listen up Bozo - I don't have any cousin named Sipper!

Go call whoever you feel like calling! For you comment about me being off the meds, why YES I AM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
not my call but

...if it were me I would tell them to STICK IT!  There are better jobs elsewhere!

Refuse to be treated like a doormat.  You're far better than that.

Why don't you call them and ask?
Make sure you have your dates right, verify your account information. The first paycheck is usually a check in order to make sure direct deposit is working properly. Other than that, nobody here can help you.
Call it what you please.

When I have a medical transcriptionist transcribe for my clients, they are subcontractors.

When I transcribe for a clinic or hospital, I am the independent contractor.

Now, you can refer to those positions in whatever form you wish and in the way that makes you happiest, but those, ma'am, are the facts, so I'm through going 'round the rosie with you about this.

What does the IRS call YOU and your MTs???
The IRS will still call you an IC and will still call your subs an IC so it is possible to work for a service and be considered an IC. Some ICs just prefer to call their ICs "subcontractors" and there is nothing wrong about that -- a subcontractor is someone who performs independent contracting for a primary contractor. That person is still an IC, but their work is coming from another IC so they can be referred to as an SC if desired.

I never said you shouldn't/ couldn't call your people SCs. I simply said that it is not "impossible" to work as an IC for someone else. You and another poster had said she could not possibly be an IC and work for a service and several people have said yes, it is possible. THAT'S ALL I'M TRYING TO CONVEY. The only difference between an IC and an SC is that one obtains the client and the other does not. Both are ICs for tax purposes so if an MTSO wishes to say IC, they are free to do so and it would not be incorrect, nor is it incorrect if an MTSO wants to call them SCs. I do call them SCs, too, for the record, but I also recognize that in the eyes of the IRS, they are ICs just like me. I just get the additional benefit of writing off their wages. :D
If you want the job you will call.
It may not be right, or even professional for that matter, but that is life.  If you want something you have to get it.  If you don't like the fact that their tech people haven't called you yet, find another company.  Then again, they may be busy training others or fixing system issues etc.
we call that
a running spell. We have a lab and a pom and both do it.
Thank you, both!! I will call and see how he is doing
nm
I too have had to call the IRS....sm
to make arrangements on owed taxes for two years. I was petrified to say the least. But believe me they were very friendly and will work with you on the amount that you can afford to pay monthly. Try calling the IRS and work with them. I would not trust some fly by company advertising as you might get burnt !!!
Well then call her, cause you need one.
I pay my taxes, you pay yours.  That's how it works.
I'd probably want to call her too but
I don't know if I would.  Does SHE know the guy is married?  Sounds a little despereate if she's calling this guy's friend.  She obviously must not have been able to reach him.  Was your DH with him when they met (sorry if you already said this and I didn't catch it).  I guess since you can't call her, tell the guy not to give your husband's number to women and that he better not give his own # to women either or next time you'll let his wife in on it.
We call it...sm
Aunt Flo or Aunt Rose...no matter what it's called, it's a curse!
Call Her
I would either call or e-mail her and ask if she is having problems with the report.
Let her know you will call her
client's if the check is not received in x number of days. Not for payment, but to advise them they will be involved if you sue HER.

I'd call it Welcome Mat!

IF you need her to be able to call in to you
have you checked into vonage? You can pick you phone number from anywhere in the US. I Live in the NW and all of my relatives live in a small southern town so I picked a number that is local for them so it is free either way. Hope I was of some help.
I got a call too
I have been getting a call lately, and chose to ignore it, but the call came from a overseas. This person called about 8 times. It makes me wonder if someone in these countries wants a contact here, possibly regarding doing transcription for a company in the United States.
That's what I would do, call them again. sm
They are usually real good about getting things fixed for you.
call for...
a boycott.  No MT should work for a company that would do a thing like that.
