after several days of cursing one particular account,  populated by handful of apparent bored-to-death young female physician assistants who seem intent on proving that THEY re the queen of COOL by not bothing to actually say words audibly ... or EVER finsh the sentence they start (as in: She says, uh, the patient, uh, It was observed ....) ..

that in fact, I had turned down my speakers while surfing off-hours and had not turned it back ... I shudder to think how many of my (rechecked x2) blanks might have been avoided....

Kinda knocked me off my high horse ... though actually, the mumblers get no slack.

I don't know when to ask my "supervisor" to consider saying "something" to accounts -- I have one dictator  on one account I hate desperately for the simple act of slamming down the phone handset whern he finishes dicating ... it often bounces and leaves a minute or so of dead air ... he's new ... everyone else seems to know to use whatever key combo "ends dicatations" ... I know it's unreasonable, but I want him GONE - VANISHED - NEVER TO BE HEARD FROM AGAIN ... he's also a summer intern and a world class mumbler ... It's absurd how much work his halting mmmumbblleed offiice note dictations take

I cannot believe that this happened to me today.  I went into one of my doctor's offices this afternoon to pick up his tape for today.   I was given a tape and told that his wife, who is the office manager, wanted to see me in her office.  I thought nothing of it because she sometimes has extra things that she wants me to type up for her and we talk quite often also.  

She tells me that she just has not gotten around to talking with me yet, but  "tomorrow we will start dictating through a company over the internet".  I was blown away!  She said she wanted to give me a break and that if it does not work out she will let me know.   The whole time she was tell me this she was writing me a check as I had just turned in an invoice.   

My first inclination was to throw that #@%$ tape at her and say "do it yourself", but I knew that wasn't the "professional thing" to do.  I was thinking how could she do this to me, not even a 24 hour notice.  She handed the check to me, I snatched it and walked out. 

I have had this account for five years exactly (began August 1, 2000).   I have never took a day off, never raised my rates, never asked anything of them, and my work has always been the best possible quality.  I have been the most dependable person they have could had.   I have passed up other accounts because of them, and I always put them first.   Thank goodness I have other accounts to fall back on.   In our town, there is only one other transcriptionist besides myself, and we both have more work than we can handle most of the time.

Just thought I'd remind all those other MTs out there that no matter how good we are and no matter how much we try to please everyone we are still not appreciated.  I will never be fooled again.  No one will ever receive the attention from me that I gave them.  

my ShortHand would type only the first letter of an expansion and then take all the letters away!  I checked and the Type It button is grayed out!  I have restarted the computer and looked on the Shorthand Help menu but can find nothing that applies.  Can anyone please help me ASAP?  I am lost without it!  TIA

But this article states it would only affect new customers right now.  So I am upset over nothing.  I went through heck with BellSouth when they charged me a surcharge of an extra 50 a month and then would write a letter saying I had to switch to a long distance service and pay by the minute because of my "excessive" use. They told me the unlimited charge was for an average of an hour a day not somebody who worked out of their home and I needed to switch a business plan at over 200 a month charge.  I switched over to cable because of that and then to read that cable was going to charging on a per use fee and not a flat monthly fee it upset me.  It is the nature of our work, VR, only paying for VBC, having headers and footers taken away, now being charged for being on line, etc.  It just seems that everything is done to keep to insure less money.

I don't mind doing legal and will do it now from time to time, but be prepared to be totally bored out of your mind.

At least that's the way I feel.  I love to transcribe, learned legal in college, went on to get my paralegal degree, etc., etc., but I did temp work when the kids were younger, which was about 90% medical and I would never go back to legal except for once in a while.

Booooooring.

It would take me all night and pages and pages to describe what a bad person my ex-husband was.  After six years of putting up with his OCD, verbal abuse and alcohol, I left him the house, took the kids (5 and 1) and didn't look back. That was 20 years ago.

I wasn't looking to get married again, but I did.  After 13 years I only complain when hubby doesn't see things my way. :) 

My older kids, who were 5 and 1 when I left, are married and have kids of their own now.  My husband gets the Father's Day cards.  Their "real" father sits alone in the perfect little house I left behind and let him have and he drinks himself into oblivion every night because nobody is "perfect" enough, including his kids and his grandkids that he never sees. 

Sad, but true.  So glad I smartened up and got  out of there when I did.

What is the big deal.  Look at your clothes, cars, items in your house.

i'm divorced and get told 'how will you ever meet someone if you don't leave the house'.

i also get neighbors asking me to watch for deliveries, let repairmen in, let their dogs out.....just because i'm home they think i'm in front of the tv eating bon bons....when actually i'm posting on this board!!

My husband is a school custodian for a K-12 school.  My daughter graduated a couple years ago, so I no longer have a kid in school.  There were teachers along and along that I did not agree with, but there are always channels to go through.  There will always be kids who are picked on.  Unfortunately, the parents of the bullies are going to take up for their little angels as well.  One of our first graders held a sharpened pencil to the throat of another student, and made threats to the teachers.  They tried to get the child removed from the classroom and the local board of education would not cooperate.  The teachers walk a fine line.  They are expected to protect all the children, but they are not allowed to do very much with little devils like this.  We had a coach that the parents tried to run off because he tried to teach some of the 16-17 year-old babies some discipline.  I am not talking about slamming them up against the wall.  I am just talking about things like making the guys on the team (heaven forbid) tuck their shirt tails in.  You would be amazed at the little things that can cause such a stink.  I had a teacher tell my daughter she did not agree with my parenting techniques, so it can go both ways. (My daugher was 17) Since my husband works there, I know these teachers.  The teacher is a basically good person, we just had a disagreement.  I was respectful when I talked to her in front of my daughter, and I expect my daughter to behave in a similar manner.  I have noticed that most of the bullies in school have parents that are also bullies.  We have resource officers at the school to help pretect the children.  Unfortunately, these officers have also been called on to protect the teachers from very real threats from students and parents.  While I agree that parents definitely need to know what is going on with their child in school, if some of the parents I know showed up at school every day it would be impossible for the teachers to actually teach classes.  These teachers have to teach the whole class, not just your child.  There is no way they are going to please all the parents and still do their job.  There is also no way on this earth I would be a teacher these days.

In my 10th grade English class we had to pick a poem to read in front of the class...I read the lyrics from "Lucy"...a few people were looking at me like I was crazy & I just thought "Oh well, you just don't get it." 

Yep, we sure could use his humor these days, that's for sure!! 

At least, if what I believe is true, he's in a much better place...I can just see him looking down & shaking his head.  Just imagine what kind of songs he'd be writing now!

Just two months ago, I started to IC for a large cardiology group.  The in-house wanted a day off during the week, so I was going to fill in for her at home.  Let me tell you, she was a nut and faxed me corrections for the weirdest stuff.  Needless to say, I quit that place after two days of filling in!  There is always work out there and I found a much better office where I am averaging around $200.00 per tape!
