Hey, All ~

I was wondering if there was anyone out there was was willing to share their contract verbiage for YOUR contract that your MTSO signed. There was a wonderful lady who emailed me with some great ideas, but understandably she was not willing to share her contract verbiage because she had paid a lawyer to draft it.  I totally understand that!  I was just wondering if there was anyone who had drafted their own who would share with me (identifying info could be removed, of course)

I would have money to pay a lawyer if my rackin' frackin' MTSO would pay me, but I'm still without the paycheck I was due on Monday!  Anyone who has done this themselves and who would be willing to share, PLEEEEEEASE email me with it and I will be beside myself with thankfulness.

a kind word and encouragement.  I know there are others much worse off and I know too I'll get through this.  This time of year has always been tough for me since my parents died and I've really been working on putting on a happy face for my family despite how I feel, but just couldn't do it today. 

We lost a newborn.  I know it is 100 times worse for an older child, but I appreciated all the things people did for me.  Our neighbor came over that morning without being asked, while I was still in the hospital, and mowed our lawn before people started coming by. Other friends brought some meals.  I most appreciated visits from friends.  I was still on maternity leave with no baby to take care of. 

I've looked into other things I could do as a sidestep from transcription, like editor, or biller, there are tons of ads for billers and coders.  I'd need more schooling.  As far as support from family, thats great that yours admire you.  Mine is just really judgemental and have always thought I never lived up to my potential.  I've always been content though.  Being an MT allows me my independence which is the most important thing to me.

I have a special "C&P" resume. I use Courier font because it will appear the same in email as it does in Word. I keep everything flush left. Where I might ordinarily use a bullet, I use a dash:

Transcribed reports for the following specialties:
- Cardiology
- Gastroenterology
- Oncology

That is good advice, but I don't know if I can give them 30 days notice because another 30 days of them and I'll end up in a padded cell.  I'm thinking more like two weeks, which to me seems fair, especially considering if they found someone else to do the work for less, they wouldn't even give me a day's notice, right?

I think too many times IC's are treated like employees.  The OP is an IC and has a set schedule?   If you have a set schedule (no freedom), you should be deemed an employee and given PTO days, etc.  IC's should not be made to let anyone know anything.    Two weeks is an extended amount of time and out of courtesy she should let her "client" even if that is an MTSO know in advance that she will not be available to work those two weeks.  As for toting a laptop on vacation, not me!  The whole idea of a vacation is to relax and not have to worry about typing.  Most physicians do understand that you need a vacation.  They will cut you some slack.  Not sure about a two week period though.  Someone with their own accounts that wants to take off extended periods of time (more than one week) should probably find someone to "cover".    I have also found in this profession that transcriptionists do not trust others as they could try to steal their accounts if they were to take time off leaving the account in someone else's hands literally.  All the more reason to network and find someone trustworthy who will scratch your back and you in turn scratch their back when needed.  Tit for TAT so to speak but at a fair price.

I am so burnt out that I am seriously contemplating just taking the summer off.  Does anyone have any opinions on how this would hurt me come fall and job searching.  I have a job at the present time working IC that I absolutely am not enjoying.  I have tried to give it some time but it has been since November and I have not fallen in love with the job yet. 

I am wondering how will look on a resume in the fall to have a 3- or 4-month gap in my resume.  I have 8 years experience and I am sure I would have no trouble getting back in to it, perhaps with a refreshed attitude?  Has anyone done this, and how was the job search afterwards?

I have always wanted to be a writer.  I used to write stories with my friends in jr. high and I was on the school paper in high school and I just love to write.  I am currently working on a novel in my spare time (what spare time? LOL!).  I, too, would like to leave MT and do what I have always loved, but for now have to pay the bills.

I see a lot of posts complaining about hospitals with many specialties and many different dictators and not wanting to do ESLs etc.  I have got to voice my opinion about this.

While most folks don't like to do ESLs/bad dictators (myself included) it is a PART of the job!  If you have many different departments/specialties/ESLs you are probably doing a teaching hospital.  If you are doing a large teaching hospital usually that is the "bread and butter" of the company that you work for.  Being in this business for so many years, I hear MTs, new and long time MTs, complain about their accounts.  When I get complaints about large teaching hospitals, if possible I take that person off that account, BUT I also warn them that while I can NEVER guarantee the workload it makes it harder when folks don't want to do certain accounts or certain dictators.  It is a part of the job.  Most of the ti these same people are the ones who are screaming first if the work is slow.

After almost 30 years, there are dictators I despise just like anybody else, but I take the good with the bad.  My opinon is that any MT should make it their plan to learn how to do every type of MT, not just certain kinds of reports or dictators.  It saddens me when I hear folks who do not know how to do operative reports or some other kind of dictation and don't want to learn.  You will never be a successful MT or feel completely comfortable if you are not willing to learn everything you can.  Besides if you are willing to learn everything and can do any type of transcription you make yourself a more valuable MT!  To do that it takes years of experience.

MT is a continuous learning experience.  No one EVER knows EVERYTHING  about this profession as medicine changes at an unbelievable rate.  MTs should be continuously learning.  In my opinion, a good MT always wants to be learning.

This is my opinion and I hope I didn't get anyone ticked off.

I'm thinking of planting rose bushes along our new fence and just can't decide from all the varieties.  I do want some that bloom all summer long and are winter hardy. Illinois can be brutal sometimes.
