VBC

In Reply to: Paid by VBC - its horrible. Do you really think it - will be enforced?

An MT should never be paid the same rate -- e.g. 10 cpl -- for VBC lines as she was getting for "regular" 65-char-spaces lines. That could result in a drastic pay cut for the MT. MTSOs that are going to VBC as a way of billing their clients are working out a conversion factor for themselves to ensure that what the client pays for VBC is the same as what the client would have paid on any other basis (e.g. 65-char-spaces lines). The idea behind the VBC is to create clarity and consistency in billing -- it is not supposed to be a cost-cutting measure. Therefore, the MTSOs are morally obliged to work out a similar conversion factor for payments to their MT employees/ICs. The AHDI should be front and center on this issue, but so far they are not. Please search the archives for more on VBC. It could very well be the wave of the future, and the final nail in the coffin of US MTs, who have seen their pay shrink and shrink for the past 20 years. VBC could be okay -- if the MTSOs and the AHDI ensure that MT pay is not decreased in the transition. And of course, MTs have to wake up and smell the coffee -- and not accept 8 cents/9 cents/10 cents for a VBC "line."
