A few weeks ago I wrote about my dog not getting along with my husband's dogs a few weeks after we were married. We finally hired a trainer from BarkBusters to come out and since then she has been a completely different dog with her behavior. She's still learning that we adults are the pack leaders but the techniques we were taught have worked wonders with her.

Update on Tom kitty - we brought him home Saturday and he is back to his playful self today. SM
I brought him home from the vet on Saturday. He was still running a temperature, but it was much lower - 103. It had been 106 when we took him to the vet. He was still lethargic, but had started to groom himself. I have antibiotics I have to give him twice a day, by Sunday afternoon he was becoming playful again and was drinking a lot more and started to eat more. Today, he is back to his old self. Attacking my PC wires and walking on my keyboard, trying to get my fingers when I type.
I am so relieved!

Probably staining the new fence we put up to keep our dogs in and other dogs out.
The neighbor dog won't stop trying to attack our dogs, so we put up a nice big fence. Should do the trick. Doesn't keep the rabbits out, though. We'll BBQ, too. Can't go far. Hubby is on call for the weekend with his job.javascript:editor_insertHTML('text','');

My kids have suffered greatly from me working at home with them home. SM
I have been working at home as an MT since my two kids were born. They are now 4 and 5. In the first few years, I had no help whatsoever. Their father was a bum who didnt work or take care of them while I worked. Your children get neglected while you work basically. And babies and young children desperately need your attention while they are home with you.
My kids have so many behavioral problems right now because of their neglect. I would try to set them up with things to occupy themselves, like coloring or a movie, etc.
I finally put them in day care and things have improved, but there are still a lot of issues because of the damage that was done. They still try to seek attention by doing bad things and they dont listen to me because they are so used to me letting them get away with a lot of stuff because I was too busy typing to discipline them in their early years.
If I could do it all over again, I would definitely have put them into day care from the very beginning.
My advice would be to seek PT care for your baby. Maybe you can do some work around her schedule a little when she is home, like when she takes a nap, and then bang out a bunch of work while she is in day care.
I enjoy being alone at home, but I've got one home sick from school already.
One on one with a kid is nice, too.
This summer has been absolutely crazy. I haven't had a moment to myself for three months because all of my kids were home traipsing their friends through the house and yard. My husband switched his work schedule, too, so he's around more than usual. However, I like not having to do two loads of dishes and four loads of laundry a day. There are no toys or clutter dragged out everywhere. I can clean the house first thing in the morning, and it stays clean until everyone gets home at night.
I even got to relax with a cup of coffee and watch TV for half an hour this morning, something I liked for a change instead of cartoons or kids' movies. I signed up for an online class that I've been wanting to take. I can exercise without being interrupted. Yesterday, I went to the mall and spent all my saved up gift cards. I got some clothes, books, bath stuff, and a new coffee mug. My work gets done a lot faster, too. Call me nuts, but I've never had the luxury of being alone in the house for 14 years. It's kinda nice. I love my family with all my heart, but I love having a few hours to myself each week, too.
Except now the cat and dogs have been acting weird since the kids went back to school. They must think that I need someone or something to clean up after and correct behavior on. They're getting into everything and racing around the house behind me.
my take is that she worked inhouse, not at home, and now wants to find out how to work at home. nm

Forget "per line." Your take-home pay should be taking home SM
roughly what it was before. If it is not, is it because your current pay rate for editing (which in many companies keeps changing as the VR system is developed) is too low or is it because your talents and skills are more for speed typing than speed editing?
If the first, discuss it with higherups, and go get a new job if you don't get the response you need. My last MTSO was secretly refiguring how production was counted to pay us less. I can accept hard reality, it was the secrecy that burned. Sometimes, though, it's just that the learning curves of individual editors and that of the system aren't in sync, and you end up temporarily making less.
If the second, though, recognize it as soon as possible and change to straight transcription work, in your company or a new one, for as long as you can find it.
As for why we aren't paid more for a higher skill, that's just the way the labor supply ball bounces. Best wishes.

I have a lhasapoo. He is MY baby of 8 years!!
dogs!
My little one is So used to his routine! If I am in the middle of a long report I don't want to stop and walk our mile, we wait and he licks my legs, but for now he is pacified in the window seat looking at the world.

Try dogfriendly.com they list hotels, parks. its a friendly site! Also just Google petfriendly and you will get many choices:}
One of my dogs..
also coughed and hacked and made all sorts of snorting noises after drinking water. She, also, did not actually vomit. I have her on Benadryl twice a day and that has seemed to cut down on these "attacks" after drinking water. She is also a rescue dog, is about 10 years old (as far as we can tell), and is a Lhasa Apso. She is healthy and happy so I do not worry about the coughing/hacking spells.
BTW, as far as rescue animals, I believe they are the BEST. The two dogs and one cat that I have right now are all rescues. It is as if they know what their fate was and every day they are appreciative to you for sparing them and giving them a loving home.
You will be rewarded for your kindness!
Dogs
Each dog has a personality just like each human. There are some that are inherently nasty, such as pitbulls they are bred to kill. Sorry plain truth, does that mean that all pitbulls are bad NO! But a pitbull bites and holds, they don't and won't release until they darn well please. I have had my share of them when I was on the police dept. One was locked onto a lab and we couldn't pry him off with nightsticks in his mouth. While waiting for a tazer with guns at his head I remembered an old cure and had someone get vinegar and throw it in his eyes. Released in nothing flat and his owner was then able to control him. But had to break his concentration. You have to look into breeds, they are bred for a specific purpose and that is a trait that is in them. I prefer German Shepherds, I have 3 wimps one over 100 pounds. But he by nature heards my kids when he is uncomfortable with what they are doing. You can make a dog mean for certain, but some dogs can't be made nice either kind of like serial killers something in the genes.
You know NOTHING about me or my dogs.
I bet my dogs have more manners than you AND your dogs have.
Your dogs are probably
Shock collars are cruel. I feel sorry for your dogs.
Yapping Dogs
I had the same problem with my neighbor, only there were three of them, barking LOUDLY all day long, every day (they put the dogs out at 5:30 am every day).
I was so frustrated with their lack of concern even after all the neighbors called the police that one morning I went out and sprayed the dogs with my hose. The hose was not forceful enough to hurt them, it just shut them up. One day the owner (male) screamed at me that the dogs were wet and he called me a few choice names, so I got him with the hose too. I told him every time he put the dogs out I would squirt them and I would squirt him too. Luckily my husband taped the dogs several mornings in a row just in case we had to get the police involved.
barking dogs
Here in our state it is considered a cruel thing to have a dog tied out on a short leash. How about calling the animal control officer or ASPCA. The dog probably wants to be in the house. Never, ever heard of a Yorkie being an outside dog. They do say that one of the reasons dogs are given up for adoption is their barking. There is a book called 'There are no bad dogs, just bad owners". How true that is. I feel sorry for you and for the poor little dog tied out in a yard, not paid attention to. No social interaction with other dogs or humans. How inhumane is that? They should just give it up for adoption.
Dogs breed too, just like you.
Beer and hot dogs!! nm

My three dogs take turns....
It's annoying but kind of cute. One is a puppy and chewed through two DSL phone cords before I caught on....the part husky always catches cords and the whole computer will jerk around on my desk....third dog is dainty and careful.
Could you please tell me more about Cushings in dogs?
I just took my one Shih Tzu in (I have three), 12 y/o, for shots he was due for and discussed with the Vet some concerns I have with him. His weight has not dropped but I feel he has lost muscle mass, his hair has thinned on his back but I attribute that to the liquid flea med I applied there as it happened soon after that (which all three of my Shih Tzu had reaction to these applications BTW-neurological symptoms, so everyone be ware of this possibility!). He has quite a bit of eye discharge, yellow sometimes and I use eye wash and artificial tears on him daily. He doesn't drink or urinate excessively. If anything, I get concerned he does not drink enough. I asked about "dementia" in dogs as we feel like sometimes he is "lost" if you know what I mean.
Right now, he has an anal gland infection and I found out that the small scabs he developed on his back is staph! I just thought they were "hot spots" which are common in Shih Tzu and I was treating them with Triple Antibiotic ointment. I feel just awful now. Anyway, he is on an antibiotic that will take care of these two problems.
My concern now though is the vet stated that a lot of his symptoms s/l they could possibly be Cushings! I told her I wanted to investigate this further and wait until we have his current medical issues taken care of and then I will go and have lab test run to check for Cushings. What type of symptoms does your dog have that has Cushings? Is testing and/or meds expensive and/or what treatments do they offer? What about their comfort and life expectancy of a dog with Cushings? I am just sick to think he may have this. I can only imagine how you must feel.
pug- the most awesome dogs ever
I've had 2- they are the greatest
8 dogs for 3 people:
3 boxers, 1 rottweiler, 1 miniature pinscher, 1 English shepherd, 2 mixed breed. We live out in the country. My 21 YO daughter is home all the time and really loves having the dogs. Most of them are hers. She has mild cerebral palsy and has not been able to find a job locally, so this gives her something to do. She plans on becoming a boxer breeder. We alternate letting the ones living outside out of their kennels to exercise. The one living in the house gets to go out often as well. She is trained to go to the door when she wants to go potty.
dogs in general
As a pet owner, I can understand the devestating feelings that you have regarding the horrible death of your dog/child. (I say child because my 2-year-old Weimaraner is like one of my kids) Please remember that any dog can be made to be vicious, there are no vicious dogs by nature. Dogs are a direct result of the environment that they live in and if they are mistreated then they are going to be mean and unsafe. My brother had what is called a Mastif bulldog and it was the biggest baby I have ever see at 100 pounds. Neighbors were okay with this dog in the neighborhood (all their kids loved him) until a picture of his breed was put on the cover of Time magazine. In this picture, the dog was snarling and looked very vicous. My brother ended up having to get rid of the dog because so many people were then afraid, even though before they loved the animal before. There is "prejudice" when it comes to dogs, just as there is "prejudice" when it comes to people.
Yes! My dogs fight to see who
can sit closest to my chair (I have three and they are not small). My husky has been extra annoying lately. I think she has cabin fever, ready for spring so she can spend more time outside.
oh well then? You are asking for a tragedy and don't say your dogs would never do that,,,
ANY dog can bite and a dog that doesn't know it's place in the pack family, is a tragedy waiting to happen.
Pet Lover said nothing about dogs sm
having bad days. I said that and it was a general remark. It had nothing to do with growling or biting. Perhaps you could go back to the posts and sort out who wrote what.
Two dogs, barking at each other
arf.
Are they poisonous to dogs also?
I have a stucco home and have these critters crawling all around. I dont really hate them but need to control and get them out of my home or from around it. I have 3 cats and I think one has gotten sick eating a blue-tailed. I would rather get them to leave than to risk hurting my furries.
What, do you think?? I abuse my dogs, LOL
Like the post below, my dogs know when the collar is on/off, turned on/off. They are very smart. And, I do know the difference between just barking or something approaching. My dogs are very much loved and very well taken care of. I don't think you know the correct use of a shock collar at all.
Who said you abuse your dogs? Why be
x
How sad for your poor dogs.
bark, I know something is going on. I would never, never, never put one of those on my babies. I consider that animal abuse. I feel sorry for your animals. Why don't you try one and see how you like it. You might have more compassion for your poor dogs.
re running with the big dogs
that goes for ANYONE in ANY profession, if you can't do your job well, do something else! but I think your attitude of lumping all podiatrists in with a couple lousy dictators calls for an attitude adjustment! I have worked for some very intelligent good podiatrists who were also good dictators, and learned a lot from them!
Question for Top Dogs
If you could give two or three tips to a newer MT regarding how to increase line count, what they be? Can you think of anything other than the normal things like expansions that you stumbled onto that might not be thought to help speed?
I'm anxious to see the list we come up with.

Hi Pat and everyone who posted a reply..
I really appreciate your imput on this and am becoming wary of the whole thing. I emailed the person who is giving me this test and she said that the only format she has the files is .wav. She recommended Express Scribe but it doesn't seem to help me much quality wise. One thing I thought about doing was converting the .wav files to MP3's. That might make it clearer. I have a converter here on the computer and when I previewed the files as MP3's they were much clearer with less "noise" in the background". (less static sound) Of course I don't know if I want to convert files every day just for clarity sake. I'd sure like to hear from anyone else who has ideas on how to deal with sound files. Thank you to all who wrote me about this!
Best,
RT
Update
This morning I was very upset. I had just had an argument with my daughter's father. I was crying. I tried to call several people to talk to them and no one was answering. My main concern was my daughter was there and I didn't want her to see me this way. My breathing turned very rapid/hyperventilating. This has only happened once before, right after an earthquake about 15 years ago. I didn't really have any other symptoms and I slowly caught my breath and started breathing normally after about 10 minutes.
Someone came and took my daughter who was worried about me, but not crying. I reassured her that I loved her and I'd be okay.
Afterwards, I contemplated about going to doctor, but felt fine afterwards, just a little lightheaded. I called a counseling center, told them what happened and got an appointment to go in and talk with them. It helped somewhat and I came home.
Now, I feel lightheaded still and my throat is dry, but otherwise I am okay. I did just start working out, but I am pretty sure this was only panic/stress related and not anything else. If I still feel bad tomorrow, I will go. But considering no insurance, I'd rather not.
I'm trying to make a few changes to my life, as with working at home, I feel pretty alone and I think the fact that I couldn't get a hold of anyone made it worse. A lot of people depend on me and yet sometimes I feel like I get forgotten when it comes to depending on people. This weekend, I have made the effort to do more things out of the house and I really enjoyed myself. Partly may be holiday blues too as I'm single. And also I have this aggression towards my ex. He only keeps my daughter 8 hours a week and one of the tensions we were arguing about.
I'm not one to ask for help, but because of the panic attack today and that it happened in front of my daughter, I was more than willing to ask for help. Online help or advice is also appreciated.
Update
The surgeon was very pleased with the surgery. He feels that he got about 95% of the tumor (which was difficult to get as this type tends to branch out). She is able to move all of her extremities. We'll know more once the final path is back. If all goes well, she may get to come home early next week and will be starting chemo soon. Once again, I want to thank you all for your prayers and support.
thanks for update!
I was worried I missed a lot--I think I got most of it then. Can't wait until next week!
Update.
He came home and apologized and said he will stop playing so much. He hasn't got on this evening either. I am glad he is willing to work it out now. I guess I will see. I am not going to be too hard on him. I don't mind if he plays the game, just as long as he cuts down. I guess I will find out with time. Thanks to the people who gave me advice. I didn't appreciate the name calling and some comments some people made about me, but I guess you have to expect the trolls to start coming out as night time approaches, lol.
Update??
So, were you pregnant or not?
UPDATE
I started my period.
Thanks to everyone who replied to me, it did give me hope. I am going to keep on trying, even though I feel like giving up.
I better get back to work. All this worrying has given me low line counts the past few days.
Thanks!!
Had to update this one
I went to the FCC website and filed a complaint. They can be fined up to $3000 for the first phone call for not providing the information required by the TCPA act. If we all start reporting all of the violations, maybe we can just get them fined into bankruptcy. Actually, not only can the company placing the call be fined, the company they are calling on behalf of can be fined as well - up to $500 per violation each. If the American companies start getting enough fines from using the offshore companies, they may think twice about using them.
Update
Please remind Dad that this is a secretive illness and if she's really sick, she'll learn even more deceptive tricks like laxatives, holding food for long enough to appease you, then vomiting, etc. Be hypervigilent because she'll have him thinking she's all better. I'd even tell any of her very close friends (who may have encouraged this) that you're aware of her problem. She may seem to have accepted what you said, but I guarantee she's thinking up ways to get around you. Much luck to you.
UPDATE!!
Well, I took my son to the doctor this morning. Needless to say they were dumbfounded by the so-called "treatment" my ex did to my son.
He has the equivalent of a third-degree burn on the great toe of his right foot. They applied Silvadene cream and wrapped it in gauze. I have to apply more cream and change the dressing three times a day. We have to be very diligent in this as a foot infection could completely ruin the rest of his summer.
They also prescribed Keflex for him to also try to help prevent infection. He cannot go swimming unless it's in a swimming pool. I take him back to the doctor in one week for a recheck. They will address the warts at a later time because his foot has to heal before they can do anything else to them. I'm not really all that concerned about the warts at this point. They will be taken care of in time.
My son's doctor assured me that they will cooperate with my attorney in any way necessary if further actions need to be taken. They did not feel it was necessary on their part to contact child services or any other authorities. But they will cooperate.
Thankfully, my son isn't in any pain at this time, but that is because the nerves have been burned. The doctor informed me that it would not be out of the ordinary for it to start bothering him and/or causing pain once it really starts to heal.
Thank you to all of you who responded with your kind words and advice. It meant a lot to me as I was very upset (I'm sure anyone would be).
Update sm
I talked to my realtor this morning. She finally talked to the seller's agent. They said when they were out of town a toilet overflowed. They said they have receipts to show this has been fixed. She's trying to find some cheaper insurance for us. She said the sellers are paying $800 a year premium. The premium I was quoted was $1120 a year.
I told her I still don't feel comfortable doing this. I know she wants the deal to go through so that she can get paid, but that's not my problem. I don't think she's looking out for our best interests.
What do you think?
IP7 Update
I updated last weekend and used it for a week. I did not like it at all. It has a completely different look and where things are as far as tool buttons, etc., just doesn't work for me, so I unstalled it and went back to IE6. I must say that the install and uninstall went smoothly. If you're not comfortable with the installing just yet, take a look at the preview site. That might give you an idea of whether you will like it or not. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/default.mspx#ie7interface
update
The MT really is a nice person who I think was frustrated with the industry. She did apologize to me and said she wasn't thinking that I had to look things up and/or did not realize how I would have to complete her work. She had been reading about costs of extra expenses IC people incur such as paying our own insurance but..........anyway, we are all in the same boat, wishing for more pay. I too, made more money ten years ago. Maybe I'll just go to school to become a private eye or something.
UPDATE: Don't know what I would do without you
Many, many thanks for the ones who have now helped me settle this problem I was having with the printer. I cleaned the printer doing what was asked and it is now printing again. You folks are the greatest!
Update!
The infinity pedal WILL work with Emdat. You have to go to options and then "configure foot pedal" and it will work
Update
Well, I finally got an explanation and will see if it pans out. He said that I will be paid June 1 for April's work, July 1 for May's work, etc. He said that he had explained it to me, and I must have misunderstood, and that my emails were going into his Spam box, and that is why he was not responding to me. (he just found my emails supposedly this morning and emailed me to let me know that). I did call my school (who was contacted by this company for new grads), and was told that they have not heard anything negative about them. So, I will continue working and see what happens! (**Crossing fingers**)
