I think constant monitoring is unacceptable. This is coming from someone who would rather work at an office and has my entire life, including in other fields. I think that the communication between in-office staff and at-home staff breaks down over time . . . "out of sight, out of mind" no matter what anyone says. They CONSTANTLY monitored everyone where I had been. It made me wonder if THEY actually had anything to do. I wondered if they even realized that when they have a monitoring window open, it is like there are two or more people trying to use the same connection at the same. . . it slows down production and is somewhat annoying and paranoid. I am VERY computer literate and have a degree in a technology field; however, I really don't think that some of these people realized that I KNEW and could tell when they were monitoring. Not only that, the office did not even believe me, when I told them that I could not connect to their network. I had high-speed cable as well as DSL at one point with no problems (except with them). I even tried to tell a couple of people that I had high-speed cable and DSL and some of the "ignorant" office people actually said, "No you don't," and they kept connecting me to something that wasn't made for broadband and of course I wouldn't stay connected.
I think the constant monitoring is like baby-sitting. If it really needs to be done, then something is wrong with the system, because people are adults.

We need this done for a lady in our department. She works at home, goofs off, and starts late. She gets to stop working, and I get called in on my day off without on-call pay. From now on I'm not answering the phone!!!!

What is not understood here is unlike some others,
I am not in the situation to where I have to work, do it now because I have just worked so long, could retire, really don't want to do that so I am satisfied with my salary- even at the 8 cent straight and 4 cents editing, bring home every 2 weeks over $1000 and that is fine with me, no bills, no young kids, no worries.

I have it - it works great and updates daily, unlike
Norton and/or McAfee, BOTH of which allowed viruses to infect my computer. I won't spend any more of my hard-earned dollars on either. If you register with Avast, you can have their service free for 13 months. It runs in the background and checks literally everything, including net, email and any attachments that come with emails.

Simple to use to, I only have 2 users so $99 for a year which is half the cost of most of the others, and HIPAA compliant, etc. Not sure how cost effective if you have a lot of doctors though, but I like the fact they give you so much space a month, you can save/delete whatever you want to do, no extra charges/mb or kb--metroscript is 14.95 a month (or more) and .34/megabyte of each upload, I would have ended up paying about $120 a month, forget that! I tried the free trial of mydocsonline and it works well for me.

I was paid on gross line for years, and I found that it worked out to be about 2 cpl higher than 65 chars line. Thus, 8 cents per gross would equal to roughly 10 cents per 65 chars. However, as other poster stated, you have to make sure it's a 12-size font and 1-inch margins

My friend's son-in-law works for a large tree-trimming company and was sent down to help out. However, another company that had already been there were held up at gunpoint and had all their power tools and equipment stolen, all their money, watches, etc., so my friend's son-in-law's company said the hell with them and they are calling all their people back home. These are the people who are crying for help and then they turn on the ones who are trying to help them. I would say the hell with them, too.

in looking up past polls on the exact topic (that are from "real" individuals!). Or that real individuals had no interest in answering her poll, whatever. I merely suggested that people get tired of answering the same old questions, which is why she's not getting any response.

If you would have read the original post, you would know my interest, which is nothing. I was simply asked to check this board out by a number of associates that are MTs and wanted my input as to whether or not I thought there was a resolution to all the issues mentioned here. I simply was making an observation of all the topics. I simply was throwing a few thoughts out there. I simply was trying to make a difference. It seems that the most of the MTs here are not looking for a resolution, but just a place to vent and do nothing else but that. There is an old saying "where there's a will, there's a way". These companies can only get away with what the MTs allow them to get away with. If the American MTs refused to fill in the off-shore work, the company would have no choice but to change their protocol. If the MTs would refuse to fill in VR for low pay, they would have to change that too! Yes, there is always someone with less experience willing to work for less and they too would soon be found out. The MTs here can argue back and forth with me about what I have to say, stating I know nothing of the history, etc., however, any person with half a brain reading here for a short period could see that if you did something about what you are complaining about, instead of allowing it, you just might see a change. I have been helping people get results for many many years and have been very successful. So.... with that being said, I am not the one on the losing end.

I wanted to hear from 'real' individuals. I know that polls are supposedly based on responses from individuals -yet, no interest.

She is free to type for whomever she wants as long as it is not on company time.
Whatever is going on with the doctor and the company you work for are separate issues.

You clearly stated in your post that you ship the kids off to camp all day, and they're TIRED AT NIGHT!! You know exactly what you said. You said it as a PERK - AS IN GREAT! They're gone all day, it wears them out, and so I shovel dinner in their mouths and off to bed! You can try to paint it any way you want, but YOU SAID IT. but of the two I think Katherine is the "whole package". As far as being inconsistent, she's a young amateur, get her in the studio and a couple years experience and I think she'll be pretty darn good. Kelly has greatly improved over the years.
My CMT lapsed years ago because of lack of interest. sm

I've found that having been a prior CMT is quite enough to get the interest of potential employers. However, it is how well you transcribe NOW that gets you recognition. Your work will speak for itself.
It's up to you if you want to spend the money for the test and the money and precious time to maintain the CEs. For me, it's how well I get the job done now that matters to me and my employer.
IMO, once a CMT, always a CMT, whether active or lapsed. They are just letters, and I have no regrets.
Some bad grammar above, eh?, but you get the picture.
BTW, I was CMT by exam by proctor in the good old days when USA transcription was all-American (and then I became a proctor!)

When you have two young kids, 11 months apart, (like I stated they are now 4 and 5) and have been doing this since they were born with no help from their father and no family around, YES, the kids get neglected. Part time might work but living on one salary, part time, is not an option. How can you possible tell me that anyone with two young kids can stay at home and work a full-time, 8-hour shift, and still give their kids the attention they NEED. I dont care how good you are at multitasking and how great your organizational skills are. It is a very difficult thing to do. And I am offended by your post making it sound as if it is easy to do.
I do agree that it can depend on how well your kids behave and how well they are able to play on their own. But my kids were not able to play well on their own. They needed constant attention.
So please take the time to realize that there are people out there in different situations than your own.
Reading our posts should help you to understand that everyone has a different situation. I believe everyone should have the right to shares their experiences as it might benefit the original poster in her questions and concerns.
I dont think anyone should be bashed for taking the time out to write about their experiences. I dont usually come on here to argue but you really ticked me off with your post. And try reading the post correctly. I said next time around I would have put them in day care. What I DID do with them was set them up to an activity like art or put on a movie for them. Geez.

call her by her first name. The little neighbor girl next door from the time she could speak called her Aggie (my mom's first name), and they were great buddies until the day my mom pased away.
I don't think there really is much in a name, but more in the respect you are given and the way you are treated. Personally, I kind of cringe inside when someone calls me Ms. Anything or God forbid, "maam" (makes me feel like Methuselah!) ... I'm always just plain Merrie. :-)
But, as someone pointed out, to each his own. If you want to be addressed a certain way, you have that right, and people should respect that. I'm glad you corrected the child ... hope it "sticks."

Talk with a professional. This can be worked through if he really puts forth the effort and you participate. The right counseling can truly make your marriage even better than it was before, if BOTH parties are willing to be honest. Give it a try. Nothing to lose at this point and everything to gain!
