I have been an MT for 15 years. I feel burned out, SM
and was wondering how others deal with it. I can't seem to get my momentum back.
You have my respect, I was that way for years, but got burned out! nm

I've been using it a few years now. It's pretty good. You'll get used to it. -nm

"mean lady, ice lady, flaming monsters"
watch others feel hurt? from my computer? locked away? huh? you have clearly let your imagination run away with any powers of logic you may have had. sad.
I'm horrible with math myself but was told several years back by a pretty reliable source
that w/o spaces is about a 17% reduction in pay - and I would say the figures you gave pretty much leads me to believe this may be true.
Naaaaaaasty lady. Bad lady. Pooh.

Never like to burn bridges
as someday I might want/need to reapply to a former job. As long as the company was decent to me, I have always given notice of some kind, usually two weeks. On the other hand, if the company was totally horrible, I would probably jump ship. It just depends on the situation, IMO.

I am not one to normally burn bridges. I am just upset *sm*
because I thought I had such a good chance at getting this account and I know that I could have provided better quality of work and a faster turnaround time; two things that I thought mattered. This is the closest I have came to obtaining my own account and I have sent out hundreds of letters with proposals. I know it is a competitive market but some day I am going to hit the right place at the right time. It is sad that it is who you know and not what you know because I have seen people working in certain positions that I have no clue how that got there. Thank you for your response.
I'm not talking about roads, bridges, etc.
Roads and bridges, etc., are for the good of EVERONE. What I am talking about is that people are too lazy to lift a finger to help themselves, such as being prepared by filling up some water jugs, stashing a few cans of food, etc. If you buy one extra can of food every time you buy groceries, it would not take long before it would add up, so there is no excuse to not be prepared.
I would be inclined to take the job you really wanted but try not to burn any bridges
with the job you don't want - either going part-time with them or something - easing out gently if at all possible in case the other job does not work out and you need to go back with them....Best of luck if you get the new job!
I have learned not to burn bridges in this industry..sm
Yes, I have burned bridges, I'll admit, and everytime I remind myself what a small world this industry is.
Managers and owners changes names and owners. One day so-and-so will be with this company and later with a company you're working with.
We have a small company, not a MT company, and the corporations will just find another contractor without any notice whatsoever, usually when they change management or whatever.
But, we always let them know professionally and politely if we are no longer to do the account. Word of mouth is our greates form of advertisement and we don't want to jeopardize that.
Call old company. If didnt burn bridges, would

30 yr and not burned out
I suppose it is different for everyone as to how to keep it somewhat fresh.
for me, maybe it is because I seldom 'kill' myself on the job (rather 'for' the job) anymore unless there is a dandy bonus. I have a comfortable pace, take frequent breaks and set reasonable line count goals.
When i'm done working, I make time for myself, relaxing, gardening, messing with my critters, etc.
I try to keep a good attitude about my work (venting when i'm irritated vs. getting ulcers) and am truly thankful for what God has provided, which helps reinforce the good attitude.
I have been an MT for 15 yrs and I am burned out too. Don't know how people say they
zz
But I crashed and burned.
All three MTSOs had the bulk of their work on the same day each week, so it didn't work out. I quit one and only do the small one on the weekends or evenings. I asked the "good" one for more hours so I didn't have to work three jobs.
It's one thing to think about how much money you "could" make if you were working XX hours at XX lines per hour. It's quite another thing to actually do it. I get slower the more I type and the later in the day it gets. It's better for me to get up early and crank out as many lines as I can by noon. Then if there's anything left, I can do it at a leisurely pace.
Me thinks you have burned one too many..
I'm also in agreement with the movement to legalize marijuana, but come on--do you think this group shares your views? Save your passion for the petitions.
I am so burned out....someone revive me please!!!!
I have been doing this job for 14 years and my production has just bottomed out. I just can't seem to get anywhere. I have a great job working from home for a hospital who sent us all home eight years ago with health insurance, great dictators, large volume of work (270 bed hospital) at 11 cpl on a 60-character line. I also work for a brain and neurospine clinic at home and they pay me 13 cpl on a 65-character line. I could be making all kinds of money, but I just can't seem to get motivated anymore. I really don't want to change jobs, I just need some ideas on how to get yourself going again after being in a slump. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated before my husband kills me for not pulling my weight on the financial part. Thanks guys
burned to a crisp
Anyone else finding it difficult to stay focused in long dictations? I can feel energetic when first logging on to work, but after a couple of long dictations, I'm burned out and ready to throw up. Wondering if I need to change careers after over 2 decades in this field. Didn't used to get burned out like this. Menopause kicking in, too, and it seems like my memory is going...
burned to a crisp
Thanks, you guys, for helping me feel like maybe I'm not losing my mind. :) Great ideas from both of you (vitamins, herbs, lots of water, splitting the day into halves or thirds). I know that I'm capable of doing so much better (if I only had a brain, like the song from Wizard of Oz!). I used to be super-productive and made excellent money. Nowadays, I can barely pay my bills. I second that emotion about naps during the daytime.
burned to a crisp
Wow. You DO sound happy! I'm happy for you. :) Do you need a degree to enter your career field?
those burned oils stick to EVERYTHING.
I've thought about it, but am usually too burned out ..(s/m)
.. at the end of the day to want to do more transcribing. But that may be a good way to get my feet wet... maybe filling in as a part time IC for someone who is on sick leave or vacation, so it would only be temporary.
Thanks for your thoughts!
I'm majorly burned out. I have CTS, and I've
recently started on antidepressants. While I haven't actually changed companies I've been looking. I've interested and/or tested with multiple companies and every one has offered me a position, but none of them can offer me the flexibility that I need, the line rate I currently make, the easy platform I have, not to mention I have been with this company 5 years so I'm comfortable with my dictators. The thought of having to change all that I think would be too stressful, so I'm staying put. I don't really have any issues with my company, I just thought a change might help get me out of this slump. My line count keeps going down and I need it to go up.
Sorry I can't answer your question, but wanted to let you know you aren't alone. I agree with other poster, take some time off. It might not be the solution long-term, but it will give you some time to rest. Even if you just take a 1/2 day off (since you're an IC and you s/l you need the $$) it will help.
We all get burned out, don't feel alone. That is good (sm)
money. You can set your own hours, etc. But, taxes are a concern as well. I went to work for our local nursing home and found it more rewarding emotionally. Actually was left money by a lady I use to stay and play cards with. So just remember to be true to yourself and there are people who do good things when you least expect it. So your efficiency obvious has not gone ignored, but take the break if you feel you need it and go back when your ready. That's the great thing about being an IC!!
Try "jaded and burned" and it's more accurate
Sure, there are bad MTSOs, but I get sick of people blaming all the MTSOs for all the problems. Flaky transcriptionists are nothing new; it seems they just "get around" more now that we have Internet based transcription.
Once bitten, twice shy. Twice burned, thrice learned. :) nm

Update on another one burned by Four Seasons Transcription
Okay shocking news here. I just received part of the pay Robin owes me. Why, not sure. Supposedly she''s in the hospital, but I also was told she's famous for "being in the hospital for surgery" as an excuse for nonpayment. I'm still not sure what made her go ahead and pay part of what she owes me... I just hope my other invoices get paid as she bills the acct for them. Now if she seriously was in the hospital she has my sympathy BUT according to other MT's she's burned... this is a signature Robin move... minus the actually getting paid... I honestly don't know what to say.
I think I'm pretty bright and pretty good, too, but
I am not a CMT. I am a medical transcriptionist who enjoys her job very much (most days). I have chosen not to pursue certification simply because I cannot afford to do so. I believe the certification is a nice thing to have, but I don't believe it is necessary for employment or for excellence in my job. If you can afford it, go for it. If you can't, don't feel too bad. You can still take pride in and do a very good job without it.
BioSpot not safe, burned the hair off the back of my cat.
please see link. Cheaper when using pesticides on your animal companions is definitely not the way to go, and use all other topicals very sparingly.

Yet another one burned by Robin Hall/Four Seasons Transcription
Robin managed to find me via Guru.com. I wish I had read the earlier warnings about her on here back then. I kept on working believing she way pay, falling for her excuses. She's very good at what she does. My paycheck was 5 weeks late when I finally said enough and told her I could no longer work for her on 02/01/08. Since that time I haven't been able to contact her through home phone, cell phone, e-mail, yahoo messenger or anything. I even tried calling her business number listed on her website for Four Seasons... guess what... that number has been disconnected with no forwarding number. She got me for over $800. The part I feel the worst about is I referred a friend to her shortly after starting with her myself. Robin now owes that friend over $900 and has still not paid her to this day. I know there's nothing I can do (still investingating legal action though) about what she did to me. I mainly want to warn other MT's about her. Please... before any of you accept a job at ANY company IC or employee.... check them out in any way possible.

oil of old lady!
That's what my husband calls Oil of Olay, but what does he know. I'll be 50 this year (and proud of it) and everyone says I look great for my age.
QA Lady
So obviously you were never a newbie? You came out of MT school the "perfect" MT. I have nearly 3 years experience and there are still things I look up. One thing about MT work is that is it forever changing. Not to mention the QA that faults me for things that are considered correct according to the Book Of Style. Just because an MT is new does not imply that she cannot do the job.
Hey QA lady. You were all over the
GAB board yesterday and now you are on the MAIN board telling us once again how wonderful you are and how superior you are to the rest of us. GET OVER YOURSELF. You keep telling us how awful MTs are, so QUIT and you won't have to deal with it anymore. I would hate to have you as my QA person. I think we all have heard enough about how PERFECT YOU ARE and how worthless MTs are.
You saying that, I only wish the lady
had been here at that particular time. I was transcribing a physician who changes almost every other word, sentence, saying oh don’t put that in, change to thus and so and then says a sentence and then says delete that. I could pull my hair out when I even see his name coming in. I remember the first time I ever listened to a physician and like the person you mentioned above, knew he was speaking English and I barely knew the first word he was saying. I guess most think we sit at home just "typing" a bit and then eating chocolate chip cookies the rest of the time.
You're not losing it, you're burned out on your main job.
I feel for you... I am having my own "version" ;-) of these kinds of struggles. Lots of recent changes at the admin level have made my job do a 180, going from a really great one to a really crappy one.
For me, it's a struggle to get through the day with a shred of motivation. I get distracted in the way you discuss as well.
I just try to make my environment as comfortable as possible and make the best of it while I decide what the best way is to deal with the burnout... I figure if I can't change my inner brain workings so that I still like this job, I need to find another one, or this feeling will possibly get worse!
I hope it works out for you. Wish I had some better advice for you, but this really does look like burnout and extreme job dissatisfaction to me. We all wear it differently. Try to be good to yourself while you figure out a solution.
just an observation, but I don't believe that lady had PPD
I believe she was psychotic. It's hard to second guess a diagnosis, but as I remember she had been ill for some time; her problem was not really post-partum depression. Does anyone else remember the details of this?
I just imagine myself as a bag lady nm.

No shopping but me, but did you see the lady with the wig?
NM :)
I wonder if you have the same boss lady as me...
She is terrible. She constantly acuses me of things I am not doing and then when I call her on it, I never hear any more about it. Never an apology. I have tried to speak with her on the phone but she won't and it's always by e-mail which is so frustrating. I have been slammed so many times I can't even count any more. I just never know from day to day whether I'll have a job or not because I never know what I will be accused of next. Oh the things we put up with to make a living in this business

What a nice lady you appear to be..sm
In this world of nastiness, it is refreshing to see your giving post, your willingness to help a Mom out by taking care of her child because she is not able to currently. More impressive is that you are the *mommy* but are very open-minded and have full intentions of returning said child when the Mom returns back to being Mom.
KUDOS to you!!! You will be blessed and are probably blessed today!!! What a great holiday post even though it's not holiday related!! Warmed the cockles of my heart!!

KYMT thanks for that tip. To the lady asking SM
about the macro, when recording your macro, you use the Control F9 to make a field, but when recording the macro you have to use your right arrow button to get out of the gray highlighted field and then continue with on creating your macro. When you are executing your macro, you would use the F11 button to move from field to field. This is essentially what KYMT posted, but her tip is so much easier!
Just wondering if there is a way to somehow "program" the autotext entry so that it takes you to the first field in the report after using the enter or F3 button?
Are you the same QAdragon lady I had
because before quitting the last job my dear QA had the nerve to get her fingers moving too fast on her instant messaging and sent me a message meaning it to go to another QA person and darn if she wasn’t talking about me! That was the last straw and I quit that very second. You 2 might be the same one?
