Are you sure you're using Auto Text and not Auto Correct?
Auto Text accompanies the template, as I stated before. The Auto Correct entries are in a separate file with the .acl extension.
Transferring Auto Correct/Auto Text
I work in Word currently and have a large number of AC/AT entries. I am moving to a platform that has Instant Text or Shorthand. Is it possible to transfer these entries as a file somehow, or am I going to have to enter by hand? Also any comments welcome regarding the ease of use, etc of Instant Text versus Shorthand.

Yep, it happens to me. I just call the IT Dept. and the guys there can do something by remote. It might be YOU who's causing the problem. It could definitely be a Dictaphone situation. Call 'em.
My preferences
I personally like Itype and MTWorld for installed platforms and Scribe for a web platform.
I HATED Intrascript and Emdat/Inscribe. Too quirky.
Go to preferences.... sm
Unclick verify target window. 1 msec, 400 strokes. Click on simulate keystrokes. This is how mine is set and it fixed the problem for me. Hope that helps. Otherwise change the delay like another poster said.
Extext - Display Disarray
I'm not sure how to describe this. It has happened a few times to me, and I'm wondering what I'm doing wrong and how to fix it. Here's the problem: Occasionally, my fingers fly and I end up hitting keys that I don't intend to hit. Apparently, I'm hitting some sort of combo that sets of a function that I definitely do not want. At first, it appears as tho Num Lock is on, as when I hit any number keys, I get symbols on my screen. But it happens with more than numbers. It also happens with any punctuation keys, as well. If I try to highlight a portion of the text with my mouse, well... everything just goes kablooey. Click on a bit of text to place the cursor, and an entire paragraph is highlighted. Click again, and more is highlighted. All sorts of stuff happen. I try to Edit - Undo to go back to where I made my mistake, but that doesn't help. Even on my desktop, the strange behavior continues.
I'm not sure what I'm doing when I make this mistake, and I can't seem to fix it. In fact, I can't even shut down the computer to reboot. When I go to Start - Turn off computer - Restart nothing happens at all. I end up having to slam off the computer. Oy! Of course, by the time everything comes up, I've completely lost everything I was working on. This is not a regular occurrence. It happened to me this morning, and it's been months since it happened previously.
Has anyone else had this happen? Do you know what it is and/or how to correct it?

A key fob is usually a small digital display
that has a 6-7 digit number that changes about every thirty seconds. You use it as your password to get into certain systems.
These are account preferences.
However, the company follows the BOS, first and second edition. So apparently the first edition says one, two, three, etc. (client wants that). The second edition says 1, 2, 3, etc. (client wants that). I asked if I could transcribe one way or the other for both accounts and was told "no". So I will transcribe "The 2 complaints the patient had......" or "The two complaints the patient had" depending on the account. Talk about a bouncin... I think it should be spelled out unless you are typing lab values... but that is just my opinion. BOS rules in the online profession, but in the real world (my own accounts), I stick to what looks more professional - spelling numerous 1-9 out. Once I reach 10, I type it that way. JMO. 
go to options in preferences.....
Under the operation tab there should be a setting for hot keys. Click on it, and it should come up with the next key you hit will become your hot key. Or similar. I have an older version of shorthand, so if this is not an option, go to help and look up HOT KEYS. I have mine set to F9, since my other software programs never seem to use the F9 key. Hope this helps.
How do you change display on Word template?
Does anyone know how to change the display to 100%. I have tried to modify normal.dot but no luck. Thanks in advance.

Control Panel - Display - Appearance
If you have Windows XP, you will have to click on "Advanced" at the bottom right of the screen.
Then click in the space where it says "Window Text." Choose the color you want, click "Okay," then click "Apply."
That should do it!
how to display header info on dictaphone?
Hi,
I have just started a new job that uses the dictaphone. Is there anyway to get the job information to display in the display window? I had an account years ago that used the phone as well, and I remember there was a way to program the phone to display this information, but I cannot remember how to do it and cannot find this information anywhere! Any help would be greatly appreciated!

problem with display properties screen sm
I am trying to change some settings for my display. When I go into the display properties screen/appearance there are three boxes that are "locked" and I can't get rid of them.
The top one says "message box", the one behind that says "active window" and the third one behind that says "inactive window". They are like error boxes stacked on top of each other. It won't let me "X" them out or anything. Its like they are locked, so I can't change change the appearance of my monitor. I have rebooted and done everything I know to do and can't get rid of these boxes. The other options tabs for my display work fine though.

Hi Everyone!
For those of you who use laptops, I was just curious if you would share your brand preference. I currently have a Dell and I love it. I am thinking of getting a second laptop so my son would be able to use this one for school and I would then have one just for work. Like I said I have a Dell and love it (and will probably purchase another Dell) but before purchasing another, I want to make sure I am not missing something with another brand.

Just to pull the heck out of the other thread below :-) and, hopefully, interject "a logic" about the whole subject, if I can?....
Individual choices regarding what software to use are just that, choices. Each person can make their case for their decision(s) and others are free to accept or reject their reasoning or advice. It's that simple, really.
One person's stated choice should not necessarily be construed as a blanket indictment of someone else's choice. Either take the advice, or don't, but please take the time to research what you're using; evaluate the software on its own merits and how it fits with your needs, check out what others are saying about it and why, and, finally, whether it's worth the cost (if there is one) or the potential risk (if there is no cost).

Just type the heading and bold it and then go to autocorrect and add it.

a couple of doctor accounts that pay me "off the books" and it's less than $800/month so that helps out a great deal.
I autotext every report until I build each doctor up to a "normal" text format. if you want more info - email me at dcr468@aol.com. I am always hesitant about writing the name of companies on this board because of the serious bashing that goes on.

put it in your auto correct if your (sm)
program allows; the way you spell it incorrectly to the left and to the right the correct spelling and when you type it its corrected for you. Have done that several of my words I have the same problem with.
Auto Cap Options in IT
You can disable the Automatic Capitalization in IT by right-clicking on the phrases advisory, then go to Options and Automatic Capitalization. There you can enable/disable the feature and indicate whether or not you want it to capitalize after colons.
Another place to check is in AutoCorrect in Word- that may be automatically capitalizing things as well. 
Why don't you just use Auto Correct
in Word? it's very similar to PRD and you can assign it to open on an F-key...
Unfortunately that is the bad part of auto
text and why companies encourage you to use it. The shortcuts and templates you build don't last due to numerous reasons like rebooting the server, etc. When companies hire you they make it sound like your lines will increase in no time once you build the shortcuts, but they fail to tell you that rebuilding them is also included! Another reason why I'm so sick this profession and looking to get out.

You can auto cap in autocorrect sm
I leave autocorrect enabled since I don't the ESP program. I use Instant Text and autocorrect togeter with ET and haven't had any problems. Under the show autocorrect options, just check mark capitalize first word in the sentences. I actually checked them all.

If you go under settings, and then playback settings, There is an autobackup setting ..It goes in milliseconds, and I currently have mine set at 1000, which seems to be a comfortable place, and backs it up just enough to catch the last word or so that i may have missed.
auto correct
I lost my auto correct. It asked me if I wanted to replace my normal template and like a dummy, I hit yes. Now, I do not have any of my doctor normals, but it has the shorter auto corrections for the patient, however, aspirin, etc., but not any of the longer ones that I use for doctor's normals. Does anyone know how to restore this?
Auto format
You should be able to restore by formatting your commands. Just go in and find auto commands and click the one that over turned that.

There are a couple of other "critical" files that you should also back up. One is CUSTOM.DIC - (this is your dictionary)
