I have had the good, the bad and the ugly in QA people in the past sm
It shapes the way I do my job, on both sides of the equation.
Right now, I am teaching an MT to do acute care with my feedback. I must be doing something right (she is too and trying very hard) because she is progressing so nicely. She does rad too and she said that my help is making her a better rad MT as well.
I so rarely send anything to QA at my other FT job and I had to send one yesterday, the first in over a month! I was so p o 'd, but the doctor threw some obscure equipment at me and I had 7 blanks, but that was for only 3 words I could not document well enough to suit me. My favorite QA gal grabbed it and gave me some feedback on the words and she went on to tell me what a good job I did (not!) because she said that most MTs have 10 to 20 blanks for this same doctor. I almost never have a blank with him, but this one time...it was a complex lower extremity interventional vascular procedure and I am not up on the equipment for those just yet with the switch to cardiovascular from OP notes. I felt like a fool, but she was great.
I have some really awful ones and there is one in particular who comes to mind because of her extremely condescending and childish manner. I actually have the QA position for a gal who was fired because of a similar attitude problem.
As QA, we are around to be the MT's safety net. We here for an extra set of ears so that the document is as full and correct as possible. Providing feedback helps an MT so that the quantity of their work going to QA will diminish. If you really want a justification for your existence as a QA, it is in the number of blanks you fill in and low numbers of jobs you have to review. IT IS NOT a promotion! IT IS NOT job advancement! It is using the knowledge you have gained to help others.
I can sort of understand the attitude because MTs seem to be having more issues with quality than they used to, or so it seems to me. The quality most lacking is a sincere wish to do the job well.
How can you people be so cruel and nasty?
She is obviously trying to do the best for her son, and at this point is trying to figure out what it is. I'm sure she would discuss this option with the doctor or counselor before she made a decision. Cruel and selfish, right. Look in the mirror.
People's nasty responses
show that they are unhappy in their own lives. It doesn't make it right or pleasant, but it is about them!
It's not that those of us who complain of this do not want honest feedback, but we all know the difference between that and being just plain nasty.
I agree ... please take the nastiness elsewhere!!
NASTY prima donna QA people ...
Guys, help me with something because obviously I'm missing a crucial piece of the QA puzzle somewhere. How is it that QA folks who are PAID both more money than us and also sometimes on an hourly basis (and justifiablly so because of their presumed higher skill level) to fill in blanks GRIPE and COMPLAIN when they are called upon to do so? I simply don't understand, especially when there are obvious issues with the dictation, i.e. bad sound file, low voice volume, ESL's, etc. (I'm not talking about a situation where an MT may not have given his/her best effort to the dictation [which I don't think at all is as prevalant as some of the prima donnas would have us believe]). What did they think, that they were going to continue to do the same job as the rest of us but get paid a premium just because they are who they are?
And I'm not at all speaking in reference to those QA folks who are a blessing to the industry in terms of their talent, the nature of their feedback, and their mentoring capacity. I'm sure, though, that many of you recognize the kind that I am speaking of.
A clue: If you don't have the patience to fill in blanks and give constructive feedback, then please ... DO US ALL A FAVOR and stay an MT. The majority of us give the best that we have to each and every one of our dictations, but sometimes we reach an impasse with a particular chart that requires only a second listen to put together a quality final product and get it back to the facility. We don't need the stress of your nasty, superior attitude and sometimes not-at-all-helpful feedback.
Geez people! Why are some of you so nasty all of the time? SM
I don't think having your husband be the IC and hiring you is the the way to go. It's too convoluted. What you can do is apply and test for jobs under your husband's name. That way on paper he has the job. Then you just do the work. The paychecks come in his name. That way he doesn't have to "hire" you. You can earn as much as you want.
I wouldn't worry about Uncle Sam too much. He's been screwing all of us for years. What he doesn't know won't hurt him. Of course, now you've posted it in a public forum...
I agree, nasty and rude people lately, where are the grownups is correct in a former post.
I agree with all you said. I come here sometimes just to share thoughts, experiences, and to really help others as it helps me to help. There are some unnecessary, hurtful responses on here. The admin cannot police all and she should not be expected to. Have a little consideration, people, we are all in the same lifeboat here. As for leaving the profession, think about it. I have been tempted many times, have tried working in other fields but totally boring after hearing all that I've heard as an MT. I can't read a non-fiction book as it all seems so shallow and ridiculous to me. For too many years I have shared the lives of people on a real, non-fictional basis through my work. It is an interesting and informative profession and even doctors are amazed at how much information I have in this little brain of mine. I have on occasion saved many people in my family (including myself) from unnecessary harm or eary intervention. Please think about it before you leave us. As for this board, I llove it except for the nasty posts, but that's life. As we all know, it takes all kinds. Most people here belong in the helping profession. If they're in it for the money, it shows. Character shows up in the positive posts on here. We are, after all, supposed to be in the helping profession, not the kill or be-killed attitude some have. I would say most of us come in here for knowledge, friendship and just plain sharing. If we have a little laugh once in awhile, it helps, but not when it turns into a cat fight. IMHO, of course!
FWIW, nasty is in the eye of the beholder and you have given nasty as good as you got.
Read your posts again very carefully.
And it is attitudes like this one
that will never allow the MTs to make more money - at a national anyway.
If the companies are having to hire more QA to do the work the MT should have done in the first place, how are they going to be able to give the MTs what they think they are owed? I know not all MTs have this attitude but it seems like more and more are getting it everyday. I just wish people could try to see the big picture instead of what is just going on inside their little world.
If you don't like the pay and you're not going to do the job correctly, please find another job!! It sure would be a mess if people we depend on in our everyday lives to do their jobs correctly so OUR lives run smoothly took on this same kind of attitude!
I'm off my soapbox now. May the flaming begin!!!!
WOW... attitudes...
Geez, look at the date on it. You will then see it was posted way before I got a response. Good eye ya got there!
"negative attitudes"...sm
Playing the "single mother" card is just as much a "negative" attitude as the that of the people you happen to disagree with here. So many single mothers have an entitlement attitude and see everything that goes wrong as being "against single mothers."
Most of them need to lose the chip on their shoulder, and maybe good things might start happening.
Stinky attitudes abound here.
If you were missing lines every day for every report you would have a bad attitude, too. This is not about people being petty.
i do my job. i send very few reports to QA. Yet I take offense at the attitudes of editors.
Quit beitching. You don't like the whole package of MT editing, get out. And I rarely hear from editors, do not have low QA (been with the company for 7 years) so I have no reason to "hate" an editor. I just hate the attitude here. And now you are hearing from someone who does their job.
Too physically demanding
That is the reason I put when I quit a standing all day/heavy lifting job in bank operations after a few months. And it was true, too. I was dog tired and not good for anything after my 4-5 hour shift of standing, walking, bending, and heavy lifting, most of which I didn't know was involved when taking the job.
Avoid the "hostile work environment" excuse. Potential employers will think you are the troublemaker. Sad but true.
Verbally and physically abusive to all of you -- sm
That's the line that jumps out at me in your post. I know you're scared, but you've got a responsibility to your children and yourself to leave if this is true.
Start planning. Contact your YWCA. They have free counseling. If there's no YWCA near you, look in the phone book for other numbers. Women like you leave their abusive spouses all the time, and they have children just like you do. There are resources. Courage, lady. Bolster yourself up and find them. You have to do this for your children and yourself regardless of fear.
Hugs and prayers...
If you physically work at a company in another
xx
No, I mean physically type faster with my hands.

That kind of stuff makes me physically
I have one doctor who always has a piece of hard candy rolling around in his mouth. For some reason, I just feel sick to my stomach whenever he stops talking to roll that around, and he does it often. It's so bad, I've sometimes wondered if I will have to give up that account because of it. It's just a little side thing I do, but it just grates on me so much and makes me feel so ill. Ugh.
Question on training at a company physically?? sm
The few that I have ever trained for were done through conference calls. Never physically going there. I have check about this company called Silent Type on the board, and read several other posts that say you have to physically train there. That is possible, as I am in NY state, but isn't this sort of out dated in this technology. Does anyone who work for them that reads this can you shed some light on this? I have 3 under the age of 12 and not sure how that would work?? Is it worth it?? javascript:editor_insertHTML('text','');

There are good points and there are bad and ugly points. Unfortunately, the bad and ugly get
deleted. Just the other day there was info and it seems to be more positive. Like any MT job, some love it, some hate it. But, having been employed there, the bad parts are/were true. The changes sound great but not great enough to make me change my mind about working for them. I do say she pays well for the area. She is one of the rare business owners who actually started out as an MT..I think that makes a big difference in pay.
Motel housekeeper when I was 16. That was a physically demanding and disgusting
job. The supervisor was always riding us to clean faster, but we made less money if we got the job done in fewer hours. Why on earth would we work faster to clean a room in 20 minutes or less just so they could pay us less?
Anyway, it was a nasty job. The things people do in motel rooms were often immoral and illegal. I had teenaged boys on a soccer team throwing condoms at me. People used to rent rooms to party, get drunk, do drugs, and other things. They left behind pornography and other things an innocent 16 y.o. had never even seen before.
Then this adult male "guest" was wandering down the hallway in just a pair of shorts. We were supposed to help the "guests" so I asked if he had misplaced his room key. He pulled his shorts off and came after me. I grabbed a bottle of acid to spray him in the eyes and called security, but the cops never found him. He had overturned the bed in his room and set up a pup tent in there. What a weirdo. I quit that same week because the housekeeper supervisor was a shrew. She's still there 20 years later. Never had any motivation to do anything else, I guess. That job taught me how to clean thoroughly and quickly, but also taught me that I would never be anyone's grunt.
Feeling healthy mentally and physically and being grateful for that. nm

Heck, coding is complex, but definitely FINITE and physically non-demanding. sm
Typing can get to you, physically. And coding has SO many resources, catalogs, books, online resources. Once you understand the concepts and rules, it's kinda like playing a card game, and not that difficult. I think MT is way more demanding, mentally.
Definitely effect. nm

Something to the effect of what a (sm)
great job we do, etc. It was really more the tone than the actual words that were said. Ever have someone speak to you with such animosity that it kind of gives you a chill? That's what this was like.
I'm probably just being too sensitive about it, but it was hateful.
The answer IS Effect....
How something WILL "affect" you; this cough DID "effect" my lungs. Sorry, but graduated high school in 1964 back when people really cared about grammar!!!
AFFECT means to have an influence ON; EFFECT is the change that occurs!!!
You see, effect is something that is brought about by a "cause", that is the affect part; "The antibiotics were effective in treating the infections." Hope this helps. Also, it seems mostly in the medical field affect deals "mostly" with psychiatry and emotions. It does however, most certainly, have a place in "normal usage".
affect v. effect
Effect is noun in the instance noted. Affect is a verb most of the time. Anything else?
Affect/effect
Affect can be a noun in psych - patient having a "flat affect" - no expression. Effect usually is used as an action word and in this case it is effecting a response or a cause.
effect or affect?
Here is a rule of thumb my boss taught me:
Affect - (a verb) "to change or alter".
Effect - ( a noun) "a result".
You will very rarely use "affect" in the context of a sentence, but it will come into play every once in a while.
WHEN is this supposed to go into effect?
I have not received letter.. Is this everyone or just employees or just IC ??? Specific info would be lovely
affect/effect
Affect can also be a noun, as in "patient's affect", effect can also be a verb as in "to effect a result".
your affect has an effect.
Does this person think that English usage doesn't matter in MT work? Some of the worst medical errors got that way by misuse of plain English words.
Affect/Effect
Effect is not always a noun, and affect is not always a verb. When you "effect" a change, effect becomes a verb. When someone has a flat "affect," affect becomes a noun.
Yes, effect is correct.
nm
Effect (bring about)

Affect vs. effect
Hopefully this will help, although I guess everything is subject to interpretation:
AFFECT is a verb meaning "to influence" or "to pretend or imitate". EFFECT can be a noun OR a verb. As a noun, it means "result". As a verb it means "to produce a result".
In your particular sentence, it is being used as a verb...so which one to pick?
Without knowing the rest of the record, I would have to go with "effect" because I'm guessing (again..limited knowledge) that the doctor is indicating that if the bleeding doesn't stop, he has to do a hysterectomy. If the hysterectomy has already been done, or it is planned, than surely, further bleeding could "affect" the planned surgery or something that happened during the hysterectomy.
Without more information, it's a crap shoot!... I'm sure that was as clear as mud.

affect/effect
To clarify affect/effect, here is what a friend said:(emphasizing the first syllable and pronouncing it with a "long E"):
"I affect the Effect"
This really helped me.
Don't go there!!! It is ugly, ugly, ugly.

Probably said that way for dramatic effect , sounds - sm
much more dramatic to say "went missing" as opposed to "has been missing".
I would worry more about the side effect
A man taking that killed himself and beat his wife up. My brother took it and got deeply depressed. He said he quit taking it. He also quit smoking off of it faster than on it. Thank goodness for him because he smoked 3 packs of cigarettes a day. I'd say try something else and leave Chantix alone.
if you live among trashy people, low income people, people w/o goals or direction,
content to just get by, you by default become a part of a group. "people" have decided to group trailer people as trash. that is because there are enough people in that group to earn the title and even if you aren't trash, you are categorized by others. did i think i was trash in lower class neighborhood surrounded by people who drank and fought all weekend? no but i knew i wasn't staying and did not try to pretend that all the fools in the neighborhood were just nice folks who ended up where they were because high horse snobs deemed their neighborhood low class. people for the most part live exactly where they belong because they don't want to educate themselves, they don't mind "trash" around them and they don't want to be bothered trying just a bit hard to extract themselves from that world. they justify everything to themselves i guess saying everyone who doesn't like their lifestyle is a snob and the comedians (Jeff Foxworthy/Chris Rock, etc) who make fun of them are just ill-informed.
As for me, I fought hard to get out and don't even want to look back. It amazes me people stay for generations.
No, I wasn't trying to be ugly to ANYONE. I truly was
trying to make some peace.
Goodness gracious.
Sorry folks.
"Because she is fat and ugly and looks like
and she is Amish too
The good, the bad, and the ugly.
I just transferred a whole group of on-site hospital MTs to a MTSO (I'm currently a recruiter). The money they made was amazing, and was killing the hospital. They all now work for a national.
On the flip side, I just went back to work for a hospital as an MT, the job was advertised recently on an MT board. Great bennies, I know the docs already as it is a local account, great pay. They were once with two major national MTSOs, decided they could do a better job themselves...and from what I've seen, I'm sure they do.
Good, bad or UGLY
Geez guys, I see no work, slow work, and when there is work - "it's bad". What does it take to make you people happy???????
