The TypeMatrix keyboard is split down the middle, one split, with backspace keys (two of them) in the middle. It is a vertically aligned keyboard, so if you can imagine each hand has its own keys and therefore its own backspace key. You can see it at www.typematrix.com
I cannot recommend this keyboard enough (no, I don’t work for them)...I have had it for several years and it is amazing...I have reduced the pain and stress in my hands and wrists by 95%....I love it!

Left thumb backspace keyboard
I can backspace with my left thumb and space forward with my right thumb. No reaching up with my pinkie to the backspace key at top right. It's called an "Erase Ease" I think. Let's me fly.
My split Comfort keyboard has backspace on

How do I get AutoCorrect/Text to do a backspace, i.e. {backspace}-year-old?
I use yo in my Shortcut and that can handle the backspace function but now I'm using a new platform and had to import my Expander BUT it won't import entries with {BACKSPACE}. I'm trying to put it into the AutoCorrect/Text but it won't take the command to backspace so now when I type yo it comes out looking like this: 35 -year-old and I have to manually go back and take out the extra space. When I try to enter the command exactly like in ShortCut, {BACKSPACE}-year-old, AutoText sticks it in EXACTLY like that.
Is there a way to get it to do what I want???
I type with my keyboard in my lap...
First off, I use an ergonomic keyboard. I just don't think it would work with a regular board, or would have very little benefit. Secondly, I sit in a recliner. Office chairs just don't do it for me, and I have tried several. So, I place my mouse on the armrest of the chair (rather wide armrest), and because it is an optic mouse, I do not need a mousepad. Personally, I sit in a little sleeping back type thing to keep my feet and legs warm, and that has a bit of cushion in my lap, which I do think helps for the correct height of the keyboard.
As far as reclining, you can rig up a support for the pedal so you can push against it with your foot while reclined. I do not do it because it puts me a bit farther away from the screen than I like. I use a laptop (totally wireless) and my desks is a laptop stand that swings over, kind of like a hospital table, but with the recliner made the way it is, the leg of the laptop stand will not go under the chair like it would a bed, so I cannot get it quite as close as I need it while reclined with my feet up.
So, there you have it. It can be done. I do it every day and have no wrist, arm, neck, or back pain. Good luck!!!!
I NEVER type on a regular keyboard and neither does my son.
have used MS ergo since I quit typing on a typewriter.
Can you type as fast on a laptop keyboard? nm

using dot matrix printer
Does anyone use a dot matrix printer for continuous labels and what printer do you use?
Regarding the Forum Matrix boards
I have often read and posted things that now don't belong on the main board because I like to hear what other MTs have to say. I like other MTs and I trust their opinions because we are in the same line of work. I don't post on the Forum Matrix boards because they don't seem to be MTs. Maybe I'm wrong. JMHO.
jammed dot matrix printer
I was wondering if anybody else uses a dot matrix printer. I have been doing this account for 10 years. We are constantly having the labels jam all the time. We use labels that the doctor's office provides. Any suggestion would be appreciated.
hehe I was able to nurse and type at the same time. It's all a matter of the chair and keyboard

You might try wireless keyboard and mouse--mine by Microsoft made it better to type faster. SM
You might try wireless keyboard and mouse--mine by Microsoft made it better and I was typing faster.
Just keep the wireless "thing" that both the mouse and keyboard transmit to (and the part that is connected to the computer) out in the open, not covered up by papers, books, etc.
I tried to go back to my other keyboard, the one that plugs in, and could hardly type on it. The wireless keyboard was a lot faster and so it is less work.
Hope this helps.

Setting backspace for pedal
I have an older transcriber (DAC Model DA-125) and have had it for quite some time now. I moved my office over the weekend and had to unplug the machine. Well, my backspace has reset to practically nothing and I can't find my manual on how to reprogram the backspace. Is there anyone else out there using this phone and if so, how to do reprogram it for the backspace length?
Thanks so much for your help.

C-phone auto backspace - How to?
Does anyone know how to set/adjust auto backspace on a Dictaphone C-phone?
Thanks.
C-phone auto backspace
When I used the C-phone, I would press 9 to increase auto backspace and 8 to decrease it.
ctrl/K, Backspace, Ok, then put -year-old

Does anyone know how to increase the pedal backspace on a DVI? sm
I am having a problem that when I lift my foot off the pedal, it pauses but does not back up at all. It is hard to work like that and I cannot figure for the life of me what to do to fix it!
Well the backspace feature won't work as far as I know BUT sm
I use 48x and have that expand to 48-year-old and it will expand correctly. Some people I know use 48y and set it to expand to the same thing. Not perfect but hope it helps.
C-phone ? backspace increment?
Does anyone know how to set the backspace increment on c-phone. My instructions say to use * for "set incremental motion" but it's not working. Any ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks.
Just backspace over it. I think they just want an e addy so someone is accountable for the post.

Adusting auto backspace on C-phone
Can anyone tell me how to adjust the autobackspace on C-phone. I want to shorten it and can't find any directions. thanks.
Does your program have an option to put in a backspace in your expander?
I use ShortHand for Windows, and if this is what you use, you can put {@KEY BkSp} at the end of it and it will automatically backspace as part of the shortcut.
Same thing applies for bolding, etc. If you look in the help section, you should be able to find out if you can do this.
If you work in Microsoft word, you could record a macro instead of putting it into the autocorrect section.
Good luck!
Open the normal.dot file and change your zoom. Hit the space and backspace and close it.

If you use a standard keyboard you can buy an old IBM model M keyboard on ebay or clickykeyboards.co
That key printing never wear down because the letters are part of the key itself. They just don't make them that way anymore because it is too expensive to make. Some of the mechanical keyboards like Cherry have what they double shot key imprinting and the letters are part of the key itself and don't wear off. That IBM keyboard is very noisy from the type of keyswitch it has so you may not like that. Logitech and Belkin make some membrane switch keyboards that are supposed to have longer lasting key imprints. I have a logitech that has the longer lasting key imprints and it is pretty good. You have to look on the specs to find out if has the longer lasting key printing.
I have experimented so much with keyboards and have done a lot of research. Way too much info.
I use a laptop with a full-size keyboard (no separate keyboard)
I'm using a lap desk but previously was using a pillow with a book on it under the laptop. No additional keyboard though, I bought one with a full-sized board with regular size keys (an HP) which I LOVE and it took no time at all to get used to it. I also love that when the weather improves, I can take my computer outside and get some fresh air! What a great job... :)
Keyboard and mouse. Is there such a thing as a keyboard that has a mouse on the actual keyboard?

What do you consider middle-aged?
Advice for middle age
Middle age can be a bitch. It can start in the 40's or 50's. Best advice? First check your overall health with healthcare provider. Lose weight if need be. Exercise. Walking is the best. Ever day. I have been taking pilates, and whoah, does that change your body and mind. Makes you lean and long, lithe and strong. Keep the mind stimulated. READ. Read about a variety of subjects. Keep an open mind. Question everything. Hang around young people, learn from them, but keep your dignity and class. Don't try to dress like them. They can learn from use too. Do fun things. LAUGH, a lot. That helps! And best advice - have a circle of girlfriends who support you and can laugh along with you!!
Once was middle class.
I was going to agree with you at first, but.... There is always food on the table, bills are paid. Have pretty much what I need, but as I get older I care about having a lot less. Certainly not rich, neither of us will be able to retire any time soon, although had we planned better, we might have been able to. So I guess that put's us sort of in the middle, huh?
Hardly. We will always have and need a middle class.
The middle class is supporting everyone. This is a socialistic society.
I work and make money to pay for my stuff.
I work and make money to pay for YOUR stuff.
Believe me, there is a need for a middle class in a society like this one. They're just apprehensive to use the "S" word because it sounds too much like *gasp* Communism!
Yes, we will always NEED a middle class,
but don't think it will ALWAYS be there....just look around you.... Maybe when the rich have to take care of the "working poor" we will see a turn-around, but then again maybe they'll just "forget" them. Don't have much faith in this economy. The poor are being ripped of any programs that existed just a few years ago. By the time the "middle class" hits bottom, there will be no help, no kind of any social programs in existance, just the rich and poor. Which will you be? Yeah, yeah, I'm pessimistic, but also realistic.
I have a middle easterner that
has a lisp (sounds like his tongue is 4 inches thick) and speed dictates. He is Pakistani. It is indescribable and I sometimes feel like I'm slipping over the sanity brink when I type him.

Do you have the one that is split once in the middle or (sm)
Thanks for answering. Do you have the one split once in the middle or the one that is split in 3 pieces?
If you don't like the middle man -- get your own accounts
Be the boss, get your own accounts and then you can't yell at us for taking 20 to 30% of the line count to make sure you get paid, the account is happy, TAT is met, we cover all vacations, sudden illnesses, and just not working. If you don't like working for someone and think that we as owners have it so great, have the guts to go out and get your own accounts and see how you like all the unpaid time you have to put into your business.
Middle Eastern. I don't know why.
I can do the others with no problem at all, but there's something about the vocal tone that I literally cannot hear it properly.
don't type double spaces. Type single. Then no one will be cheated.

YES SIR BUDDY!! It is time to cut out the middle man.
Most MQ offices are made up of 75% statutory employees which actually means "contractors".
If the majority of transcriptionists were men, this industry would not be running like this.
No man would stand for his client to be telling him "I'll pay you what I want, in a way I want, and I'm not going to tell you how I come up with the amount." Nope! it would not happen. And it's ludicrous nationals have gotten away with it so far. MQ is the biggest perpetrator of this practice, but most nationals do it.
They want us to be "employees" until it comes time for the risks of transcription to be accepted, and then suddenly it is all on the shoulders of the at-home transcriptionist.
I'm sick of it.
The reason a person is a contractor is because they are willing to take on the risks of a job. But for that risk you pay greatly. Nationals are not paying greatly. They are paying us as if we are employees.
As a contractor we should expect to receive 3 x what we would earn an hour as an employee.
Now tell me, are you getting that working at home? didn't think so
Any middle-aged MTs out there struggling like me?
I can only wonder why there are not more support groups for the Baby Boomer mid life females who surely are suffering with the fun of the "change." This is very interesting to say the least!

middle eastern accents
I had one yesterday for that sang and hummed most of the report. He dictated in a sing-song voice that made me think he was casting some sort of spell. In between words and sentences he would say, ahhhh, ummmmmmm, and then speed ahead with the sing-song again. And it was all in a middle-eastern accent. It was an extra long report and awful. I was so jittery by the time I finally finished.
