MS Word versions
Well found out that with the update, it DOES work, instead of doing "typical install' you can do a custom install and tell the update to keep the original version of Word, which it does and will also import your Stedman's Quick Look, etc.
Even different versions of Word count the same, so it's not that either. nm

Sharing with older versions of Word.
There are some problems with sharing files with older versions of Word. Although there are ways to get around it, it sounds as if it might be a bit annoying. I am thinking about upgrading, and this came up in my research.
There are updated macros in all versions of Word
except 2007. The macro for 2000 is called macros9.dot and can be downloaded from the Microsoft site. The AutoCorrect Utility in 2002 & 2003 is in the support.dot template that is included with Word. You can go to this site to get the macro for 2007:

Or you can simply locate your .acl file and back that up. It's easy to find if you add an entry and then do a search for it by the date modified. Just make sure you are searching hidden files and folders.
Depends on the versions of Word and WordPerfect. sm
Some WP versions can read Word .doc files, some don't. Some versions of WP will not accept copy/paste from Word. The advice to save the Word document as an .rtf file may be your only choice.
What version of Word? That can't be set in newer versions. I had to do a macro --sm
I hope this link works for you. It shows how to make the macro. I use alt + semicolon for it because it seemed those would be a convenient shortcut to use. H
Here's the link (you'll probably have to copy and paste it):

Upgrade to Word 2007 vs older versions
I just bought a new PC with Vista operating system. Now I must buy Word to install. I looked at the differences between Word 2007 and the older versions on the Microsoft website and it seems that there is a difference in the way Word 2007 is saved compared to the older versions - you have to download a "patch" to be able to "read" older version Word files and for my clinic to be able to "read" my Word 2007 they will have to download a "patch" as well to enable their PC to open this document. I need some advice if this is a good idea or if I should just stick with an older version of Word. I have a copy of about 3 years old that I have not used and can load on my system. I would like to upgrade to the latest version as I know in a year or two the doctor's office would have changed but am wondering if the new version is a pain to work with or a pleasure. Anybody out there that can tell me the pros and cons between upgrading to the latest or just sticking to the old and familiar. I am also not sure if the doctor's office will download the patch and how accomodating they will be...
Difference in Word 2007 from older versions
I have a trial version of Word 2007 on my computer, and I really like its layout. It's not a fully functional version, so I can only try it out so much. Has anyone made the switch from the older versions of Word and liked it better? Has it improved your productivity in any way? Any problems with it? All feedback appreciated.
Thanks!

Smartype only works in specific Word versions.
You want an Expander that works in all programs and a lot of platforms, such as Instant Text or Shorthand.
Does Flashtype work in all Meditech versions?

why on 1 computer for the same report would the word count be different in Word? (inside)
Like on 1 computer with word the document was 27000 character counts w/spaces
and the other computer (the one i type this account on says 13,000. How can there be such a difference with Word being the same? I am baffled.
Are you trying to move your macros from Word on one computer to Word on another?
If so, try this....Go to microsoft.com and search for Word 2000 Supplemental Macros. When you get the article, it will tell you to download the small application. You will open the application in Word, and it will give you instructions on backing up the macros you already have. You will do this on the computer you want to move macros from. Once you have made a backup copy, email it to yourself. Go to the computer you want to put the macros on. You will need to download the Word Supplemental 200 Macro application on this computer also. Save the email you sent yourself on your desktop, and open the application in Word again just as before. You will select restore and pick the file on your desktop to restore to. The macro will do all of the work and transfer all of the macros into your new computer.
Now, if this is not want you wanted....... never mind.....
They may not have word on their computer
They might not have word on the computer and do now wish to install it. They might have word pad or note pad and that does not have a spell checker.
Do you use Word on your computer of

How do you copy word sup dictionary entries to another computer?
anyone know by chance? Am going on the road with my laptop and would like to copy over my extensive sup Word dictionaries to my laptop for spell checking. Any help would be greatly appreaciated :D
I have one work computer (sm)
in a corner of the living room at my real desk (with places to put reference books and such) and one on the dining room table until I can get another desk. It's Grand Central Station. Have learned to concentrate while blips and bleeps and music are coming from PC on which son is playing. First thing people notice when they come in is the unusual number of computers in one place.
I work 2 and use my own computer, so yes
they are both on the same computer. However, if you are using a company-furnished computer, you CANNOT work your second job on that computer.
This is not my work computer and I am not scanning. This is not my job, so __

i'm glad my work computer is

I need computer help. How do I make PRD work
PRD is on my old MQ program, but I can't seem to get it moved over to my Microsoft Word page. I can't seem to get my Stedman's Spell check over there either.
Help.
is he playing this on your work computer? (sm)
make a password for the computer. I don't agree with be glad it's just video games -- addictions are addictions and can affect the family life just as bad as alcohol, porn or any other bad addiction.
If he's ignoring his family due to the games and it's creating a problem, then it IS a problem. I'm so fortunate in that my DH doesn't even know how to turn on a computer. He's never had an interest.
Password protect the computer. Tell him it's off limits. He will get used to not playing anymore.
Computer work area...
Does anyone have their computer work area in a computer armoire? I am thinking about changing my work area to that, but I am used to an open desk area, and I am wondering if you feel at all boxed in by the armoire.
Just wondering...

They should definitely ask. I have a lap top in addition to my work computer and it is for the..sm
kids and anyone else who wants to use my computer. I'm not saying I'd never let anyone use my computer, but I'd have to trust them because this is my livelihood.

your computer will work as long sm
as your generator is running. High speed cable would work if you have that outlet hooked up to the generator. Usually a generator is not hooked up to the whole house unless you have a "whole house" automatic generator. If the power is on and the cable is not out, you can work.
Easy to work with. You can look up old reports. Your own word expander will work

Computer crashed, cannot work for two days.
How do you prepare for something like this??? I wonder if the big "S" has compensation for this type of thing. Hard drive needed replaced. Egads. And I cannot work off my schedule as I would be, you know, cheating. This is a major financial hit.
How can a backup computer be used with Spheris? You work on sm
theirs only.

Question: If you work for national that provides computer,
can you ask their Tech support to move their files onto the laptop computer?
One other question: If you are required to have HSI connection for dictation and files, do you have access to that and how?
Anybody here work only on a laptop and not use desktop computer at all?
Does it drive you crazy with the small keyboard and small screen? Maybe it's something you get used to and compensate for when working. I'm considering getting a laptop just for work to keep things separate but looking for pros and cons of this. I figured somebody on the board has some advice on this.
I work for a hospital from home on my computer and they do this too. sm
I was told that it is becoming more and more common to see this happen as the internet can open the hospital to too many vulnerabilities. It's my computer but I am on their clock, so I am OK with it. I prefer my books to internet research though so it is not so bad for me.
Good luck with this.
Are you on a network or single computer at work?
Lots of things can make this happen. It depends on the normal.dot if that's where you are saving them. Some networks won't let you save to the normal.dot.
What word expanders work best with MS word? Or..
.. is there another way? Do many use the "autocorrect" to make your own word Expander without having to purchase anything? Does that workout well or is it best to buy expander software?
I'm setting things up to start again after a couple years out of hte business. My Spellex spellchecker expired and I had to purchase a new spellchecker. Also wanting to get my expander going. GAH! It's a bit spendy to get things going again... not fun.

Yes, there are different versions...
The version that I worked on had access to other reports in the system, which was nice. What I did was type in MS Word then paste into Meditech via Shorthand, just don't tell the company that you're doing that. Otherwise, if I had to type directly into Meditech, I wouldn't have made any money. So, like any platform, there are good and bad aspects to it, but it really depends on which version.

Does anyone know if the newer versions of Escription sm
are compatible with Woord 2007? The requirements I received some time ago stated that Word 2007 was not compatible. Wondered if they had upgraded yet. TIA
I have older versions saved.
If this poster (or anyone else) needs an earlier version, I have setup files for both 4.15 and 4.02 available. Just shoot off an email.
A lesson I learned a long time ago--always have a backup plan.Whenever I download a new program and after setting it up on my computer, I save the original set-up file in a folder called, amazingly enough, Downloads. Then, when a newer version is released, I also save it (usually with the version number as part of the name) in the same folder. That way, if anything goes wrong with the update, I have the old setup files to fall back on.
The same way you copy/paste in all versions.
Ctrl + C to copy, Ctrl + V to paste.
Those versions don't even come close to how IT V Pro works.

I have a lower versions but I find
that when it stops expanding, somehow (I know I didn't do it) the autoreplace box got unchecked. When I check it back, it works again. Hope this helps.
You aren't working in both versions.
That's why Word is working okay for you. If you want to work in both versions then the oldest one has to be installed first so the registry will know how to handle both.
