I have been there for several months now and never been paid late. The quality of the work I have been assigned is excellent, no ESL and no hassel about working for a line count instead of hours. The benefits are acceptable. I did have one friend who they hired who seemed to have not good luck with their program and she had to quit. Overall I would give them a 4 on a scale of 1 to 5 and expect to be with them until something better comes along. 
Either way, you're in the wrong place. sm

True. I'm not advocating that, don't get me wrong.
However, even the best of us have certain doctors that slow us down, for whatever reason, whereas other MTs might actually like that doctor. No, I don't believe an MT should get a free ride and skip all the hard doctors while others bear the load. Actually, I think the best scenario is when MTSOs don't allow skipping in the first place and instead see that MTs get matched up to work types, doctors, etc., that they can be most productive on. I also think they should offer incentive rates for the MTs taking on the difficult doctors and pay those MTs accordingly. That's a win-win for everyone.

Not sure this is the right place to post but have question regarding bid I placed on account - sm-
I placed a bid on a local account. I was contacted by the hospital for more information regarding my bid. I was told that they narrowed it down to two and that I was one of the two. The line rate that I had bid was 10 cents a gross line. I know for a fact that some of the girls working on that account are making 10 cents a gross line so I figured if I bid 10 cents a gross line that I would be lower than the current transcription provider. I have not been officially told that I did not get the bid but I heard through the grapevine that the same person who had it was awarded it again. I also know for a fact that some of the people working on this account have no clue what they are typing, that work is turned in late, that some days the girls get 1000 lines of work and other days are expected to do 4000 lines in a day and because they cannot do it, they just don't turn the work in and no one is aware of this because it is so mismanaged. I realize that a clinic/hospital has the right to reject any and all bids but with the cost of healthcare continually rising, doesn't the clinic/hospital owe it to somebody to have accepted a lower bid if it was going to save them thousands of dollars?? If I had underbid by 1 cent, it would have saved them thousands of dollars. I also was going to provide a call-in system at no additional charge to them. They do their transcription the old fashioned way with picking up and dropping off of tapes which means that I could have given them a 24-hour turnaround time. I was also willing to go with picking up and dropping off tapes if that was how they wanted to continue. Anyhow, I am very frustrated and once I know that I officially did not get the bid, then I want to write a letter to someone such as the hospital board. Any input on this is very much appreciated.

I have been in many, many countries and never expected someone to speak English just because I am visiting. I spent 2 weeks in a totally nonspeaking country before- never could order grape jelly for breakfast- but I knew I was the foreigner, not them. To assume that all that have traveled feels as above, just not speaking for me. Oh, by the way, even if not able to speak their language, I have found a thanks or thank you works out really well, most seem to know that.

There are so many newer MT's who don't know the facts where BOS is concerned. I use my BOS everyday.... it elevates my monitor to just the right height.

Board for a job not yet really available like some MTSOs do, and then give you the runaround when nothing is available. It's happened to me a couple times, now I'm suspicious about that.

Sorry about that! I too made much more per hour as an MT even if I made $25 as QA, but I am vehemently opposed to QA being paid per line.

This is the very reason I hate to post on this board....someone always takes a post the wrong way. Being an MT and Editor is a VERY stressful job and it just seems that as time goes on the pay gets lower, the hours get longer and nobody cares. You obviously havent come to the point where you are fed up with the whole industry yet but I'm sure your time will come. You don't have to tell me anything about stress...I usually put in 12 hour days at least 5 days a week.

Is Error rate post on wrong board?

I own a small medical transcription service with 19 transcriptionists -- needing to implement an error rate policy and looking for suggestions on how other services have done this? I could go on and on about the STUPID mistakes MTs make - perfect dictators - just stupid lazy mistakes - wrong drugs and meds entirely - happens all the time. Forget dosages. If doctors had to rely on this typed garbaged (used typed intentionally - transcribed doesn't fit), they'd kill most of us as patients. And some MTs have an attitude about it? So frightening. But lets' give 'em bonuses and incentives to GET IT RIGHT!

The position varies from place to place..
Sometimes you end up doing VR, which can be really easy or a real pain. Sometimes you end up simply editing files and all is good. Other times, you end up with more job responsibilities and hours than you ever wanted. All in all better than typing LOL.
I typed a report on the wrong patient as the doc keyed in the wrong info, SM
He later said the correct patient's name and I SWEAR to this day I made the changes but somehow the report when through without the correct patient and changes made. I still remember that incident.

I think a lot of people go the extreme -
so, if I had to be one way or the other (being a humble extremist myself...*LOL*), I'd rather have too much self-esteem than not enough (been there, done that the first 30 years!!! *L*). And I am a truly humble person, been recognized for just that.....but because of *been there, done that* - and all sorts of therapies (not drug therapies), some end up the other way. Oh well, this was a fun couple of posts - so I thought.
