More or less VR is still in the beginning stages and doctors are not very enthusiastic about this idea, so I read and heard.
As we already stated VR is far from perfect and puts still a lot of strain on the MT editing VR.
But VR is the future of medical transcription and the sooner MTs jump on board the better it is for them; VR technology will get better and better.
I heard that some doctors even prefer to do their own dicating a n d editing and if the VR technology improves, a lot of them will do it.

Isn't every MT who does VR editing a 'low-key' QA, correcting the VR system?
And I would disagree with what I often read by people who advertise VR, that VR 'completely' obsoletes keyboarding. This is definitely not the case; it minimizes but does not erase it. Sometimes it is better to delete the whole sentence VR produced and type it anew than make all the necessary deletions.
Well, this is America and the proper spelling is check.

Is the option to check spelling as you type checked? sm
What version of Word are you using? In 2003 and earlier this option is on the Spelling & Grammar tab. It's in the Proofing section of Word options in 2007. IT doesn't change any of Word's options.

I have been an MT for 38 years. So I definitely know a LOT more than most of the newer MTs.
Why don't you concentrate on doing a better job and maybe someday you can be qualified for a QA position. Sometime in the way, way distant future...
The above is very condescending and very selfish... After 38 years I would hope to further along than just QA; that's right JUST QA.... no big deal... It's not like she's saying she owns her own company; she's simply (yes simply) QA... Nothing special or maybe she is "special" after 38 years and never climbing any higher than JUST QA....
I don't like the way she comes off about new MTs or lazy MTs.... She is a very poor representation of MQ....

I stated a simple fact. Experience = knowledge. Plain and simple. I was not tooting my horn and I certainly was not insulting new MTs. I train new MTs for crying out loud! I am a mentor. I would never insult new MTs. In fact I used to be one myself, and that is why I have EMPATHY for new MTs and that is also why I have chosen the THANKLESS job of QA - to try to help the likes of you.
I am not certainly not selfish or condescending. If I were either, I certainly wouldn't have chosen this thankless job.
As far as my credentials, not that they should be any concern of yours, I have been an MT, editor, auditor, MT trainer, MT supervisor AND I owned my own business, and, yes I am still "simply QA" and darn proud of it.
Don't assume that you know anything about me. Period.

My daughter has her internet service through a satellite provider (Wild Blue). They apparently have very strict guidelines for how much time used and if my daughter exceeds her predetermined allotment, there are days she can't even log onto the internet while her account "rejuvenates" (or some such jargon; I have cable internet, so some of the terms are foreign to me).
Anyway, check into it. I can see where running over the limited time allotment could cause major headaches for an MT or anyone who works from home and relies on the internet.
(To the tekkies - Yes, I'm certain I've used incorrect terms herein but, as I said, I don't use satellite internet myself and understand very little of the technical jargon my daughter explains to me, lol!)

If you deleted the actual dictionary, it should be in your recycle bin. Look for the *.spf file.

'We have to stay ahead of the technology', sure we have to, because if the technology gets better than the human MT, then technology renders the MT obsolete.
So it is all about striking a balance, like...'be good, but don't get better than I am because this would eliminate me.'
I think that in the years to come this will be the future of VR and technology will prevail.

Hey, I know what you're talking about. Before I know it, a half hour has passed and there goes my required line count for the night. It's hard to give up though once you have invested some time in trying to find the right word and I have a real hang-up about using blanks and/or sending report to QA, I try TOO hard sometimes to reach 100% accuracy, wish I could say the same about reaching my line count. Google is a lot faster than searching through the books though,
Trish, I like you but I totally disagree that MTTest is the best
way to find a good MT. I know as fact my way works and it does not waste hours of a person's time. I get good people because I know what to ask and how to screen people. If more recruiters knew how to do it, they would not have to waste all that time too

had a similar issue with TWC and they had done some upgrades and the modem I had was no longer compatible. The tech knew what the problem was the minute he saw the modem, only it took me about 3 months and threatening to cancel for them to get out here.
No brainer here. Stop payment on first check before you issue 2nd check.

it is plasma PEROX. Perox is an acronym, therfore some people do all caps and some people just put perox. if you do Google search for plasma perox you will find it.
Is doc spelling it out, i.e., A-L-M-A? sm
or saying what sounds like alma? I'm pretty sure it's posterior "element". I transcribe these all day and can't think of anything else that would apply here.

I used to have a doc that kept spelling N-A-R-E when he wanted one nostril and I kept putting NARIS. I am sure he thought I was wrong. I wonder if he had a TESTIS or a TESTE.

Spelling is and has always been my weakest link. I've been a Transcriptionist for nearly 10 years. Knowing my short coming, I over compensate. When I first started I had a dictionary and medical speller in each hand. Of course there was spell check too. Transcription can be done even with the character flaw of not being able to spell. Remember, I'm the one who transcribed for the FBI before computers, word and spell check. You just have to be certain everything is spelled correctly before you hit "send." Go for it Mom. I'm living proof it can be done, and I'm not only a Mom and grandma, but I recently applied for social security.

I have been known to use the incorrect word from time to time on this website, but I can tell you that in working, I pride myself in knowing how to spell every term that comes my way. I look it up and LEARN IT as I go along.
When I was first an MT I was no hot shot speller. I am now and I can spot spelling errors in more places than work or a website.
I am surprised that you don't take any more pride or interest in your work than to say you don't need to be a great speller! I go so far as to look up procedures I don't know, anatomy I am not familiar with and disease processes that are new to me. I can't mindlessly transcribe in the vacuum I call my office, not worrying about whether or not I can spell the words correctly and with no clue about what I am doing! I make an effort, always.
Perhaps this is why I work part time and I mean PART TIME of 25 hrs a week and I made oh so well above the average MT income stated in a post below. You get out what you put in.

DID you check with Social Security& does your son receive a check???
Go to SSA.gov and research the payee options. You may have to use the search engine, but your answer to this particular issue should be there.
I am disabled and while my kids were minors, I had to fill out a form each year on how I, as the payee spent each and every penny of the money they received. I don't see how his mother can justify how she spent his money for things that you normally would pay.
That said, he is getting Social Security right? Is your son receiving a dependent check? Under law, if a parent is disabled and has minor children, each and every one of those children also receive a check until they turn 18 or graduate from high school, which ever comes first.
The check is a percentage of your husbands, so for 800.00, your son should receive at least 350.00. If you have not been getting this, they would pro-rate it back to when your husbands disability started and that in itself, could solve a lot of your financial problems. I have spelled so many words wrong and each time I do I fix it with autocorrect. I just figure that I spelled it wrong once, it will happen again. Some words I have spelled wrong so many different ways you would not believe, but each time they are corrected for me---saves lots of time.

Yep, I'm in the same boat. I do not use their shortcut program; I use my own Shorthand. I just could not make myself switch after I tried it out for a few days. So I put her corrections in my ShortHand program. I don't know how you permanently save them in Bayscribe--ask your supervisor???
