At my local Krogers store, they always ask if you would like assistance. I notice that almost every shopper who has more than a bag or two does allow for them to assist. I personally appreciate the help because I have a new baby and my priority is to get him into the carseat, instead of having to load up all the groceries, especially when it is cold out, raining or steaming hot outside. Also, they take the cart back into the store with them so that you don't have to mess with that either. They are always friendly and at this particular store they do not accept tips for this service...explaining that their job is to assist the customers and that they are paid to perform this job. It's a wonderful service and I hope that it continues. I know that it is uncommon these days, but it certainly helps me to make up my mind on where I buy my groceries from, even though in my city there is a lot of competition! :)
