Therapy for hands and wrists that keep me typing. sm
With a medium-weight rubber band around your fingers and thumb, stretch your fingers and thumb out as wide as you can against the rubber band. Bring fingers back in then stretch them out again, repeat 10 times 2 to 3 times a day.
If you maintain a daily schedule with this you will definitely feel a difference. Hope this helps!
Any suggestions for painful hands/wrists from typing?
My hands are always freezing cold. I wear fleece "wristies" to keep warmer. I have pain in both hands all day from typing. One wrist has a ganglion, and both wrists have some arthritis showing on x-ray. I rub capsaisin on hands/wrists. Still the pain persists. Pain relievers (Advil, etc.) do not help much. Prescriptions from doctors did nothing.
I was wondering if other heavy typers out there might have found some helpful things to alleviate hand/wrist pain. I even purchased "warming cream" which is supposed to help increase circulation to the hands, but it did nothing. I have several keyboards that I have tried also.
THanks!
What do you do when your wrists ache and your hands weigh a ton but you have to keep typing?
I know I have read posts on here before regarding this topic but I can never find them in the archives. Besides a different keyboard, is there something you can take like a vitamin or different foods that will help? I have noticed that if I eat potatoe chips, my hands are stiff the next morning. Is there a certain brace or splint you can buy that you can wear when not working or do you even wear these when working? I thought I saw some magnetic splint somewhere. I am not like this every day, just some of the time but when I am, it is very frustrating.
typing 8 hours a day or 40 hours a week
is TOUGH.
on my wrists I mean.
and not getting any benefits... and for a salary of less than 30K? not really worth it...
I've been shopping around for some fingerless gloves to wear while typing. My hands get very SM
VERY when I'm typing, especially in the fall and winter months. I've tried the the carpal tunnel gloves an they just drive me nuts. I really just need something soft and warm so my hands stay warm. Any suggestions? I've been looking at the Wristies website and I've about decided to buy a pair, but I wanted to get some opinions. Anyone use Wristies? How do like them?
Any other suggestions would be appreciated. I have to take numerous breaks throughout the day to warm up my hands and it's really irritating.
Thanks!
YOUR age. I've been typing for 9 hours now,

Every day, after typing for a couple or hours or more, my right leg swells. sm
I try to remember to get up every couple of hours and walk around, but still, by the end of the day, the leg is swollen from the knee down, and I sit on the sofa with the leg propped up on pillows. I have tried switching the feet I use for my foot pedal, tried propping the foot up on a stool, but nothing seems to help. Any ideas?
Thanks!
actual typing time versus hours worked-venting here
I just have to vent about companies that keep track of your actual "typing time" and then say you are not putting in your 40 hours. I always come up short and not by just a few hours. They have said I worked only 60 hours when I worked 80. But they say "their system is not wrong."
For one thing when you look up old reports or do research on-line or if you walk to the fridge, that shouldnt count as "not working" as long as you are getting your line rate. Also something is wrong because I dont take that much time looking up things.
Also how can they get by with making you work 40 hours when you are paid "production?" This is wrong. Either pay me by the hour or leave me alone!!
My hands get cold, and typing with cold muscles is like (sm)
running or other exercise when not warmed up. I wear thin, warm gloves with the fingertips cut out to keep my hands & knuckles warm. For muscle pains in the shoulders, neck, biceps, etc, try Flexall cream - I find it to be VERY effective. Also try slight changes in chair height, keyboard height and angle, and monitor height. I found if I enlarge the print on my screen, it keeps me from hunching forward to try to read it. (CTL + scroll up or down on mouse wheel to make print bigger or smaller. It will not affect the size of the finished product.) Frequent "mini-breaks" to do other chores: filing etc. if in an office, quick household task if working at home, also helps relieve repetitive stress. A few months ago I thought my typing days were numbered due to various pains & arthritis; now I can work pain-free for up to 11 hours in a day. Good luck! :)
I get tired of daily grind. I get tired of having
horrible dictation/dictators and not able to produce lines, which directly affects my paycheck. I don't mind doing the difficult stuff, and I pretty good at it, but it is stressful and I find it very hard to budget when you never know what your paycheck is going to be. I hate being tied to having earphones on all day. I have children at home (I homeschool and don't have toddlers running around) and my DH works third shift so he is home during the day. I try to work around all this, but can't always. If I had a "desk" job I could be part of conversations at least, but having to have the earphones on you can't do that. I get tired of being sedentary, my feet swell, my shoulders are tired, my elbows hurt, etc.
I stick with it because of my children, and also because I like the flexibility. I don't have to be up at 5:30 to get the kids up and ready for school, I don't have to fight traffic to get to work at 8:00. It is a trade-off. Sounds like you just need a break.
I know what you mean! Everyday's like the first for us.

I have those days everyday
and have 10 years in as an MT. It seems the dictation has gotten sloppier. It is a DISASTER waiting to happen. I really do not think MTs should be paid by line given we have to struggle through so much, look up almost everything that takes time away from from our productivity.
A union should be formed for MTs, hourly rates ranging from (12.50/hr -30.00/hr depending on experience and time in. These big MT companies would then not be able to rape the MTs of their earnings.
I run scans everyday. Can you look up some

Huh? I have used it everyday for at least two years and never had to buy a thing. nm
Autocorrect list of everyday
I am looking for a list of everyday short phrases that we type alot because I know I am missing some. Is there a website that has a list? Also, is there a way to compile a list from the reports we type to show which phrases and words are used the most? Isn't there software that does this? Thanks a lot
I felt bad today, but you must feel like this everyday
You need some serious help, who is this mean and nasty person, BTK or charles manson!
They give me plenty of work everyday, so I sent a

Well then I stand corrected:) Learn something new everyday. lol

i count blind everyday-it totally sucks!
i work for a local hospital and we have 2 systems, one system can view their lines in realtime and the other side of the department doesn't have any idea what our lines are. we have to wait til the following week for the report to be ran. you can always tell if you made the manager or lead mad that week because your lines will be really low. if you dare to question them then you have to face the rath! they screw with our lines on a daily, sometimes hourly basis. there are a few people that watch their lines by report and catch them doing it and have to fight, and i do mean fight, to get it corrected.
Everyday thing for me. I work till sleepy, then set my SM
phone not my clock to ring. I get about 5 hours every night, have for years.
People get killed EVERYDAY by making bad decisions. If you go to work
driving while you are intoxicated or sleepy you are more likely to get in an accident. Do you deserve it? I dunno. Maybe people should just use their brains and they would not become victims or killed. Your logic is flawed and you are comparing apples to oranges. How about this? If you wear skimpy clothes and get drunk and hang out with drunk people instead of dressing a little more modestly and keeping your mind sober, who is more likely to be raped? It is logical that consequences of your behavior will decide your fate.
Maybe she should have stayed in America where Americans look for drunken teens everyday.
If you go to a foreign country, you are under their laws and their policing. If you don't like it, DON'T TRAVEL OUT OF THE COUNTRY! In the meantime, TEXAS TEAM IS SEARCHING IN ARUBA WITH PERMISSION AND ARE VERY HAPPY WITH COOPERATION FROM ARUBAN GOVERNMENT!
2000 lines everyday but one since my kids went back to school.
I can finally get back on a routine and get some work done. Now, if I could just stay off of MTstars! LOL.
For us slow pkes---my best would be 3 hours, worst 6 hours - just depends on the dictator ,
I have to look up (i.e. Dr. names, addresses)...I have to do a lot of that and it majorly slows me down, without all that and good not too horrible dicators, in 1 hour I can do anywhere from 15-20 minutes of dictation.
Typing. This is NOT typing, it is transcribing. There is a BIG difference. sm
Transcription includes typing, but so much more.
But in transcription, if you are good at what you do, you can do 8 hours of work in 4 hours. So eit
you slice it, both companies will still get 8 hours worth of work out of you.
That is the problem I've been having lately being an MT. Companies want to pay us on production and they set minimum productivity standards, but want us timed in for 8 hours a day. My thinking is, if they want 8 hours of work out of me, pay me hourly with production incentive. If they want to pay me on production and tell how much I have to produce in an 8 hour period, then when I hit that mark, I should be able to call it a day even if I've only worked 4 hours.
Seems these companies want it both ways and it is simply not fair to us MTs. JMO, tho.
If it's my fav doc with lots of shortcuts, 1-1/2 hours to 2 hours max
x
I see, we sit at the keyboard for 40 hours and then throw on 20 more hours
Is this how you do it? Me? I got a PT job so that if my FT job didn't have enough work to meet my needs financially, the two jobs together would.
They hired me to work a specific shift and that is what I am working. If they want me to type after I clock out, then I will happily do so.
I must say, I work long hours, sometimes 12-14 hours a day.
I thought it was important to mention that. However many hours it takes to get the work done is what I do. Some days 12 hours, other days 6 hours and sometimes 14 hours. So, I guess there really is no easy answer.
I do 2000 lines in 6 hours - so maybe 3 hours - nm

What does it hurt you if this is
on the word board? Nobody is forcing you to read the post, and especially to reply. If you can't be nice, butt out!!! What a rip!!!
I would be hurt too (sm)
But I would not let them know it. When FD rolls around would not do anything for your DH and I would 'play-down' the birthdays of the older children when they come around... Sounds like this might not be the first time and time they tasted their own medicine... don't hold onto the hurt or anger - let it go for your sake and you don't need to be mean - but at 18 and 21 they are old enough to take responsibility for their behavior!!
I don't think it would hurt
The same thing happened to a friend of mine who questioned the company after failing her test. There was a glitch in the computer, and she got hired!
Can't hurt to ask.
When I first started hospital stuff I did H&P and DS and then added in the OP notes and then every other type of note under the sun.
I got spanked when I was a kid and it never hurt me.
Then when I had children (they're grown now0, they got spanked, too, and it never hurt them. It usually was a last straw, but sometimes it was necessary, and they are none the worse for it, either. However, each of us is entitled to our own opinion and entitled to raise our children the way we see fit as long as we raise them in a loving home.
My neck does hurt too...but...
my wrists usually get super sore when I STOP typing, I guess from not using them so much. If I take a weekend off, I am in severe pain with them, usually the brace works or taking ibuprofen, but now the brace doesn't fit. Thanks for your help!! I have actually thought about trying acupuncture, someone I know did that and they don't have any back pain at all after some sessions, supposed to be covered by my insurance too. Thanks again for your help!
I have the Panasonic behind the ear one, but they hurt.
Waaaaa. I'm looking in to those big ones like we used to use in the 70's with our stereo systems. Does anyone use them?
Whatever. Nothing to hurt and I'm not ashamed.
But it doesn't hurt to try!!!
nm
It certainly can't hurt anything to call, but...
He may think swallowing water caused it, but I bet he was yelling and having fun and got hoarse. If he's not sick by the time you're reading this, he's just fine.
Try a new keyboard -it can't hurt sm
Sounds like common sense but it was something I had not thought of before. I have been using the Dell standard keyboard since I got my new PC 2 years ago-have always used whatever keyboard that came with my new PCs. My hands were starting to hurt so I tried a Kinesis-didn't work. Too long of a learning curve for me. That's on the back burner for when I have more time. So I bought a Microsoft Comfort Curve 2000 on sale at Walmart for 20 bucks last week and my production has gone up 20% just in that little time. It seems the keys are lighter and I don't have to push as hard on them.
It couldn't hurt
I get paid by the page. I actually can make more money per hour doing tapes than I can as an MT, it's just unreliable. I've gone almost a month without tapes a few times.
I would think some do, wouldn't hurt to
send them out to them too.
DEA prays to hurt
"I'm going to start doing my part from my side of the country. I pray everybody else will do theirs!"
What kind of Prayer is this where you want to hurt others? Who do you pray to? Satan? You seem to have plenty of unproductive time at hand. No or little MT work? Then why do you not sleep during the day and work overnight to stop outsourcing, as Laurie says? That would be a more productive way to contributing to achieving your objective of curtailing outsourcing. Not to forget, cut your demand for line rate too as the dollar is weakening in the international market, which is contributing to increase in the cost of living.
OUCH! Bet that hurt!!
What side do you hurt on with appendicitis?
I don't think it would hurt to post a resume - hey,
you never know. If you're not happy where you are, keep your options open and post the resume!
So what's it hurt to sign it just in case?
