Timed test the norm for IC job hunting?

I had a response to a job that had a specified time frame for testing. It had to be done withing 2hrs of getting the passcoded from them via email. I got the email 30 after they sent it and it took forever to do it becuase you couldn't use express scribe/foot pedal. I had to go between word and media player.....and in doing so went over the 2hr limit. Is this normal for them to do this?

Timed test
I really hate the idea of timed tests - Speed is not as important as accuracy - with so many companies hiring and then docking for errors- MTs do not know which way to go - speed up or take the time to do it right. With accuracy comes speed - not the other way around.
But it's a timed test to determine your production speed. nm
nm
consider it a well-timed experiment ...
give yourself a few months to decide ... unless it's really dreadful, of course.
It's a good way to ease into at least some co-worker type sociability ... and a 5 mile commute is nothing.
During my brief in-house (training to go home) sojourn, I found the distractions crazy making -- however -- I was being paid by the hour. No one else seemed to mind that the backlog was gigantic. I had previously supervised a small office doing transcription and was used to working my butt off to get caught up. Time proved that office to be a very very emotionally toxic zone.
I say -- Go for it! Think about having days when you don't work at all --- gosh!
Best wishes.
I've have taken some that were timed.
I think they all are by the test sites, but it is usually not part of decision making for hire (I was once told).
One actually cut off on me when "time was up" but I had finished and was double checking all when it ran out.
Hunting?!?!?!?!
Anybody else out there against hunting. The reason I ask is that I know hunting season is coming soon and it makes my skin crawl knowing all those cute animals are going to be shot dead with either a gun or arrows and butchered up. I am an active participant with PETA and often do protests.
This should be illegal. We need to save our animals. In my opinion, hunting should consist of the animals having weapons as well!
While I don't like hunting,
affiliating oneself with PETA is ridiculous. Those people are rabid and don't hold people in any more value than mice, sometimes even less. They don't see the difference between killing 6 million Jews or 6 million chickens. All the same to them. No, hunting sucks in my humble opinion, but it's a free country, like it or not.
Hunting!!!!
Me and my husband hunt deer. We also fish occasionally. WE EAT WHAT WE KILL! We also pray and go to church.
Job Hunting
Hi-
Could someone offer up some information on aquiring a position Transcribing with little current experience. I seem to be hitting some walls.
RE: Job hunting
I am so tired of job hunting. I just wish I could find a job.
job hunting
I am right there with the rest of you guys. Have never been in this situation in my entire life until now. Depression and anxiety are taking over, whereas I used to be pretty happy-go-lucky. Job app after job app, interviews once in awhile, but then rejection. I'll pray that we ALL have a turnaround and get really good jobs VERY soon.
It's a test in progress to measure what MTs know and what type of test to give for the SM
different levels of MTs. It's over $90. That's a lot of money to pay to someone who is giving these tests for research as to what type of testing should be done for the different levels of MT. The AAMT will probably take the results and make a test that they can give in India or the Phillipines or some other foreign country.
tuning fork test: Is it about a hearing test? .See inside
A whisper is about 20 dB
Loud music (some concerts) is around 80 to 120 dB
A jet engine is about 140 to 180 dB
Hope I could help
Yes, that's why I've been job hunting.
Sally on hunting
I also hate to think about all the deer being shot, just reminds me to much of Bambi.
That said, I am surrounded on 2 sides by the worst car versus deer highways in our state. The deer population is becoming way too much, they're multiplying like rabids and I'd rather see then killed quickly than lying on the side of the road injured or stuck in the windshield of the car that hit them.
Sorry, I value the life of a human over that of an animal and these accidents or killing, maiming and causing way to many families heart ache and grief
You need to post elsewhere about hunting!!
for our meat is the only meat that we can afford to eat!! Did you ever think of that. We do not waste the meat, it feeds us all year long. So take your rightous bulls**t off of this board!!
Hunting Understanding II
Thank you to all ladies on this board that feed their families the OLD FASHION WAY! They don't just buy any old meat in the store with a label on it! HA!HA!HA!
Update of job hunting.
A few days ago I posted here in response to another MQ person nervous about leaving. I was a little to forthcoming about my failure on a test and got mostly encouraging replies and a few holier than thou responses.
But anyway! Good news! A job offer late this afternoon at 8.5 a line! I had tested on Monday - my favorite kind of test - basic grammar and terminology and then on to the dictation. Three dictations (DS, Consult, and SOAP). No mention on how I did on the test but guess it was good enough. This is a big raise from what I was making at MQ - 6.5 cents! Only problem is the time - they need eves - but feel I will take it just because the money is worth my while.
Just wanted to let everyone know. I felt so bad the other day, very ready to throw in the towel. I still think that ours is a dying profession due to voice recognition and jobs outsourced but I am going to hang on for just a while longer. Thanks for the encouraging words the other day. I really needed it then. And to Nervous MT 1, hope you are reading this and that you will keep us posted on how it goes with you. There is life after MQ.
When I was job hunting, I applied
and was offered a job, declined. Now I am so glad, I will not work for a company that wants to put MTs out of business in this country. I would never, ever work for Spheris.
MT-grad-job hunting-need help!
Hi Everyone,
Recent grad here and an option after grad was to train with Scribes(a company that has an account set up with the school-Canscribe,to allow students to transcribe reports which get passed on to Editor for screening and feedback. Basically like you are on probation until they tell you that you no longer need it, but you are not paid, it is just training. I was just on my 3rd day when I was told that there was an aquisition pending and the training was on hold till furthr notice and to feel free to seek employment. I have been reading a lot on this forum about companies the school has recommended I apply to, such as Medquist, Spheris. I am confused and scared. Please guide me in the right direction to avoid a bad experience. What companies will give recent grads a chance? Appreciate any advice.

witches still hunting
I was audited last year and they caught me for three years worth and it was very ugly and taught quite a lesson. I have 5 years of payments and fines.
Advice please, job hunting.
I recently left a hospital job 6 months ago because of climbing gas prices and started working for a MTSO. After the six months, I cannot seem to get the correct line count to be eligable for benefits and I need benefits. I can work for hours and it is like my line count barely moves. I worked the same way at the hospital and made twice as much so I know I can do it but for some reason with this MTSO I cannot seem to make it move. I thought I would try another MTSO. I applied and they offered me a job and as soon as I got my new hire paperwork in they would ship me my foot pedal and what I need to get started. Well, the next day after talking to that recruiter, I noticed an ad in the paper from a local hospital, just a block away, stating they wanted a medical records clerk, FT with benefits. I jumped up and applied. They called me in for an interviewed today and told me what the job entails, which has nothing to do with MT, gave me a tour of the hospital and they said will call me Thursday with their decision. Oh best part is no weekends or holidays.
What I am wondering is should I go ahead and fax that new hire paper work as if I don't have that hospital job or should I wait. I told the MTSO I would have it in today and I would hate for them to go through the expense to send my stuff for me to send it back if I did get that job, but on the other hand I don't want to keep them waiting. Also, I am not sure yet as for what the salary would be with the hospital as when I asked they said they would let me know by Thursday. I have 2 in daycare so the job would have to cover that and I am not sure if it will.
They are transitioning to EMR. They have paper MR now and they are trying to get ready for EMR and they need help filing. I have a feeling I would be walking in on a mess. I think the MTs still use tapes.
Not a medical typing test but this website can test you..
It's called www.typingtest.com
Atleast it will give you an idea.. Sadly, I had to take it twice before I passed it LOL
Why would they do a microalbumin test when she has the period? A lot of test s will come out wrong
Why would they do a microalbumin test when she has the period? A lot of tests will come out wrong.
Neer's test is a shoulder impingement test
Don't think that has to do with the knee. How about "bucket handle tear" of the knee? Never heard of Neer having anything to do with the knee.
Which companies were you at where you were not treated very well. I am job hunting and would like
to know.
My recent job-hunting experience
Two decades of hospital experience here. Applied at about 6 different large companies. Some of the pay was atrocious (.07), some was fair (.08). One offered .085 but had to work the hours precisely as they demanded as an IC with no flexibility and told me up front it was an extremely difficult and high ESL account. (Now I realize that someone has to type those hard dictators, but would prefer that they be mixed in with an easier account -- been there and done that as far as an 80 percent HARD ESL account).
Of course I didn't take any of them and now I wish I had told them the pay was too low and that it was insulting. I was not tempted to accept any of those jobs. The recruiters for the most part acted as if I should be honored to be offered such a cruddy job with them!! These were all companies who advertise heavily on the MT boards and perhaps that is why they are constantly advertising.
I took a job with a very small company who has decent accounts and were eager to pay me a better wage so I know they are out there. I had interaction with 2 such smaller companies who offered good pay.
I really hate to see to see good transcriptionists take jobs that offer so little in return for our services as it hurts us all in the long run.
Wish hunting could be "catch and release" like fishing.

Not the norm
Well, you are not the norm. All you have to do is turn on the TV to see that. Jeeez, wake up.
But isn't that the norm everywhere now?
xx
is this the norm ?
I began p/t IC work for a local MT company and they're driving me crazy. THey look at every single word I type and send me HARD COPIES in the mail of my corrections, format changes, etc.
I have 15 years of MT experience - so this is crazy! It's all illegible - and I'm starting to go crazy! They pointed out "40mg" instead of "40 mg" ... all little stuff like that. Is this what I'll have to look forward to ? Thanks, MT-NY
I'm sure that's far from the norm
Michael Moore has been pretty good at twisting facts in the past. Not saying it didn't happen, just saying I'm sure it's not the norm in our country. I'll still take the USA any day.
8 cpl is the norm?
So, can I assume 8 cpl is about average? If I take a typical 48000 character file, there's about $3.80 difference. That looks small, but mulitply that by at least 2 times a day, 5-6 days a week, and in the long run it would make a big difference for me.
I don't understand what your post has to do with original post of TIMED tests. NM
x
You are right, it is not the norm at first, but including myself and many others that I know
personally, we do make around 100 or more per day working for a national. It is very possible! You just gottah look.
I still don't understand how someone can have so many years experience, be on the same system, and make less than 175 lines per hour. I don't understand.
Maybe they are not typing fast enough or know enough terms, is all I can think of.
I've switched jobs in the past few months and started off slow, but now up to approximately 200 lph - came from a job where I did 350 lph on WP5.1 and now on an internet platform. I don't kill myself everyday working either.
It is about the norm around here in my neck of the USA. nm
x
I would say it absolutely is the norm for
Rad to be paid by the report. I have only worked for 1 company by line and didn't stay long. The company I work for now I get $1.50 a report. The lowest I have been paid is $1.10 a report. Unless the account is heavy in MRIs, CTs, etc. there is no way I would work for line.
If you have been doing this for over 12 years then I would say you are cheating yourself out of some good money. I average 180-200 reports a day, or $2700 a pay period -- can you say the same?
That is the norm from what I have experienced - sm
this gives the bride and groom time for pictures, etc. between the wedding and the reception. Every wedding I have ever been too, it's been about 90 minutes between the 2 events. Unless the reception is at the same place as the wedding, I'd expect some sort of gap between the two.
Have no idea if this is the norm or not but -sm
it seems like a sensible thing to do. I had to fast starting 24-hours before the colonoscopy, but I could drink certain things and have certain colored ice-pops/water ice (up until midnight), then about 15 hours before the procedure had to take 4 Duculax, then 2 hours later start drinking a 1/2 gallon of NuLYTELY (yuck, totally gross). Needless to say I am very glad I don't have to do it again for 10 years! I'm only 40 so I am 10 years too early for it as it is....but unfortunately had to have it done.
this is not the norm, dump them
Really now... nobody checks my work.
98% is the norm for accuracy
and most companies have their own QA system of assigning point deductions per error divided by line count. If you have a way to review your reports after they go through QA you should be able to see what your percentage is. If not, ask QA.
It appears the magic number is 500. Lots of folks job hunting, for sure.
nm
happens quite often i would test again or go see your GYN for blood test which is more accurate
nm
I have worked for a lot (too many) of companies, and this is the norm. nm
nm
The norm is 3:1 or even 4:1. Personally, I transcribe 2:1. nm
x
No, it is NOT the norm. You shouldn't be docked for that! QA
s
If the account specifies that is different. If they don't specify isn't 2 then the norm? nm
nm
Anything more than a week for a norm delivery is too much, sm
C-section - I would say 2 weeks max. Anything more than this is "milking it."
I wish I was that fast!---the norm is 3 to 5 minutes - sm
per dictated minute. I only do the 2:1 ratio when I am doing edits.
Not the norm, organic baby greens
with tofu, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, organic corn pasta salad with tofu dill dressing
It does make one wonder how long this is going to go on or is this just the norm now? Terribly sad
I lost my QA job 3 weeks ago because a US company bought the offshore company my original company was using and now brought in their own QA people. Apparently they hope to get these MTs off QA here real soon.... I just gotta laugh... I've been QAing the work for over 2 years and it is the same mistakes day in and day out... they just don't get it and don't care to 'get it'... they get paid no matter what so what is the incentive to learn? These MTs actually argued with me about contractions, etc., like I had no idea what I was doing.... I know you are venting and I hear you and totally understand... it's a sad place MT has gotten to over the last 5-7 years or so in my mind
What will happen to us when Electronic Medical Redords become the norm?
I would love to hear everyones 2 cents about Electronic Medical Records....How soon will this be a problem for us? What will we do after they are in most doctors exam rooms?
Let me know what you guys think...Do MT's have a future? or did I just go thru schooling for nothing ...
