This makes me glad I am alone. I am responsible for the bills that I create, I am responsible for my future. Sometimes I think it is time to look for someone but then when I think about what I will have to give up, I decide to keep on going alone for a while longer. I know that there are many happy, happy marriages out there and my hats off to those but when I read about things like this it brings back many bad memories and I realize I am happier alone for now. We did have some good times during those 22 years but the last 10 were not so good. And some of the guys that I run into now are a lot more "needier" and want you available when they want you around and I have found that a good book and a bowl of popcorn easily replaces that. I always thought that if I earned more, took the stress off of him, he would be happier and appreciate and love me more -- but it didn't work and caused a lot of built up resentment inside of me. Talk to him and see if it can change but do not work and not build on time together as when all the kids are gone it will just be the two of you and will you have anythng then??? good luck.

This makes me very glad we pulled out of the .....
house we originally put a deposit on a few weeks ago and went with another house. The first house not only needed too much expensive exterior work, but I was more than concerned about the 2 COON HOUNDS who were kenneled in the backyard of the house next door. Those dogs make the more Gawd-awful noise when they bark. I'm sure they were hunting dogs and not pets. Every time we were over there, they were in that kennel/run. And we live in a cold climate, so my heart would be breaking in the winter watching those poor animals sitting out in -10 degree weather.

Makes me wonder
I've heard how many times that children that are mean to animals are being mistreated in some way. After hearing how this little girl (at only 10 years) is so brutal, makes me wonder how she is being treated by the adults in her life.
I think they do it because it makes you
pay attention to them - you cannot just continue working without at least talking (yelling, touching them to move them) to them. At this time, they are seeking any type of attention, even if it is negative. Same with cats flopping out on my keyboard.

Just about a week ago it was 80 degrees and now it is winter all over again. Kinda nice since I don't have to go out tonight though. Just stay warm and dry at the computer.
doc makes me so mad.....
I have a 24-48 hour TAT contracted with 7 docs. 90% of their work is returned in 24. One of them constantly wants rush jobs, sometimes asking before they've even sent me the work! Then always had to do him first. Since each doc's dictation comes at different times, I now have to stop what I'm doing and get his done the minute it comes through. I just think he's such a demanding jerk!!

You can use Ctrl + Shift + hyphen and Ctrl + Shift + Space for the hard hyphen and hard space. If your work platform has overwritten these Word settings you can reassign keys for them. Both commands worked for me in the beginning but IS did some sort of upgrade on my work computer which disabled my hard hyphen (Ctrl + Shift + hyphen). I tried reassigning it back but no go, so I reassigned Ctrl + H. Works like a charm plus saves me from hitting the extra key. I know you can ESP words with hard hyphens. I don't remember if I tried with the hard space or not (oldtimers!!). I'll have to try tomorrow at work because my interest has been piqued. For the hyphen, I highlight the words with the hard hyphen, hit Crtl + Ctrl for the ESP box to come up, and then give it a short. I'm going to try this with the hard space tomorrow to see if it works.

it would have to be pulling up multiple-page templates, and typing in the patient's name, over and over and over. Not straight dictation on so many different docs and hospitals that there's no hope of having templates for them.

You know, people........ it just makes me want to cry out loud! I am getting more angry as we speak.. you have all heard from me before about this business, but I'm going to be VERY frank and spill my guts right here in front of you and the whole MT world, hoping that someone who is in the right position will read it and HAVE THE GUTS to make a stance. (Can you say "hospital board of directors?") This is something that AAMT (or whatever the daylights they are now) should be doing for us. It's about time these "high and mighty" doctors listen up!
We are a family of hard-working people who practically have to become doctors just to transcribe these stinking reports. I don't know about all of you, but I DON'T MAKE A DOCTORS' SALARY! I truly believe that all of you as well as myself try every day like the devil to do the very best we can to participate in patient care and earn a decent living, but as I have said a million times if not more, it is nearly IMPOSSIBLE and at this time, there ARE NO ANSWERS TO ALL THIS CHAOS....
Actually, I take that back... there are a couple answers..We are all reprimanded for the incompetence of the doctors. THEY ARE NOT GODS as they would like to believe they are. They put on and take off their pants just like we do and when the he _ _ are they going to take some responsibility? I, for one, am NOT afraid of them and if I had the chance to do it over again working "in-house", I would have the guts to tell them how bad they are right down to their burping, farting, yawning, chewing, mumbling, whispering, non-English speaking two-sided faces. Let us not forget the 50 second operative note that should have been dictated clearly in 10 minutes. Yes, they're busy, but the bottom line on this issue is that they don't want to do a surgery and BE TOLD to go and tell someone about it, so they dictate like their hair is on FIRE. IT JUST MAKES ME SICK. It's part of THEIR JOB. If they don't do a good job, how the sh _ _ do they expect us to do a good job!
Let us not forget QA.... We are punished and yelled at for leaving blanks........DUH! and I just hate the thought of a QA person (whose quality of work I don't even know), making corrections to my work - and don't tell me that at times, they are guessing... AND WHOSE NAME IS ON THE REPORT - OURS !!!!!!!!!! In the end, if there was a lawsuit, we'd most likely be the ones to have to answer to THEIR blunders. I would rather make my own mistakes and have to answer for them than have one or two opinionated QA people telling me what I did wrong... one telling you one way to do something and another telling you a different way. I say, "leave the stinking blanks and let these JERKS" remember whose country they are living in.
BOTTOM LINE.......... Make the doctors more responsible... after all, they want to get paid and couldn't without us. I say, "stand up and be heard", tell them to get with the program and most of all, SPEAK DISTINCT AND PROPER ENGLISH!! THIS IS AMERICA, NOT PAKISTAN.
Please don't get me wrong. I love what I do and for the right dictating physician (s), it is a gratifying experience. Something has GOT to change. Thanks for listening... we're all in it together. We need some mercy... it's a thankless job  and  !

I would so love to type the way they actually dictate. I think MTSOs should provide each dictator with a sample of this every few months or so (just as an extra sample) to remind them they really should be more careful.
Even just the way they run sentences together and say is and has exactly the same. Those 2 little things alone are a hassle for us and could be so easily a nonissue.
Okay, I guess I'm going down a different road here. Sorry. :)

I always just try to consider the source. The sad part is that the people, whomever they may be, who makes these hateful posts on ALL boards are either 1) Trolls or 2) Very unhappy people.

I hate that you cried yourself to sleep all night. It's too much pain for anyone to bear, and I've been crying too. Your post reassured me that I'm not being overdramatic about feeling so compassion for our furry friends. My husband is getting tired of hearing me talk about the those poor dogs down there. I also want to drive there and get some of them. If I don't hear from Best Friends soon about being a foster parent to dogs belonging to the evacuees, I may just do that. (Best Friends says they will transport the pet(s) to you, no matter where you live). Time was of the essence for some of those dogs I saw on the news, and that was yesterday a.m.
Hope someone can get word to the little boy that his pet is located and safe - don't know how though. All I can think about is the little boy worrying about his pet. If he knew his little buddy was OK, he might have some comfort and lessen the pain.

I know that the decision to homeschool is a mammouth one and can almost be mind boggling! Try to fine a homeschool support group. The public library often knows of them and can direct you or sometimes churches will have large support groups. Call around. I am from Indiana and our state's homeschool office is called Indiana's Association of Home Educators. I know they can give you all the info you need if your from the Hoosier state!

For the poster previously, "sis," if you read this there are a bunch of other sounds you can download. I switched to the "smith-corona" sound and it is a little softer sound, like the old electric typewriters...

Being 33 and single without kids and no man or one in sight, just meeting guys who are afraid to commit..well thats my life. I feel kind of judged by people, esp friends who have gone on to marry, some have gotten divorced, but even the divorced ones look down upon me. Like i'm the bad one to not have gotten married and divorced yet. These guys just drain me, it seems like so much work to keep one around let alone faithful. I've got work and school though.

The docs never stop dictating. Sometimes a hospital will allow another service to come in for a trial run. Sometimes they funnel all work to the 'trial run' company and sometimes they will funnel a portion. Wanna know why hospitals do this...
1. TAT is not always met...because MTs call in sick and ICs don't keep a consistent schedule and work sits for days waiting to be typed.
2. Hospital continuously gets lousy work...because MTs who have been released from QA upload lousy work because they are more focused on getting more lines instead of producing a quality product.
I know this because I have worked in hospital administration before. I am now an MT. Many MTs gripe and moan about getting fired or not having enough work. What you guys don't seem to realize is that a lot of this is due to MTs who have a poor work ethic.
Everytime you call in sick, you cause an avalanche of issues. Because you work from home, many of you don't understand the concept of 'teamwork'. You see things as they apply to you and not the big picture. MTSOs are under a lot of pressure to find good MTs who will provide a quality product to the client.
MTs are probably the most job hopping people there are. It is very difficult to keep a client happy and make sure TATs are met when you have 10 MTs off 'sick' each day. It's also very difficult to keep a client happy when they have 10 or more crappy reports uploaded each day.
A hospital can drop an MTSO and move on to another. Well guess what...the account that you were hired for is no longer. You also have companies who hire lots of ICs who work and work and work taking away work from the MT employees. I could go on and on but I'll stop here.

I am glad for you.
Instead of being jealous, I am inspired. So far I have only worked for a clinic as an employee (making very little money) or for companies, first as an employee and now as an subcontractor. The owner of the company I am with now is a wonderful person, but I am not making as much money as I need to make. I am looking into other ways to do it. I live in a rural area, so there are not as many opportunities as in more urban areas, but ever since I have been doing MT there has always been plenty of work to do. Most of it is being done by companies, but I am sure if I check around I can find some work that pays better. I personally know people who are doing well. I do not intend to totally give up what I have now and just sink or swim. I guess what I am saying is that most of us do make choices. Some of you may have circumstances that keep you from going it on your own. Even then, you do make choices. When I was working for a company, I enjoyed having paid time off. As an independent contractor, that is something you have to work around. If we just sit around and whine about what we make, we will never get out find something better.

I was blessed with longer legs and a shorter torso though so chairs aren't a problem. My hubby is 5' 10" and he has a long torso and shorter legs and we both drive the car with the seat in the same position. (and yes I can see over the steering wheel). :)
Now top shelves. . . . .that's a whole different story. :) My boys are 6' 3" and almost 6 feet so, while I still have them around, I just yell to one of them when I need something up high.
I'm always rewarded with them teasingly resting their elbow on my head though.
Older daughter is 5' 6" and younger one is almost 5 feet already at 11. I'm destined to be the "little one."
I'm so glad she's gone!!
I absolutely hated her voice, it drove me crazy watching the show!! Her voice is great for church, but not for the real word and definitely not good enough to be an Americal Idol winner! I mean look at Fantasia, where the heck is she now?? I can see Chris getting pretty far in the business, but nobody really seems like they have the "it" factor like Kelly Clarkson did/does.

I'm glad somebody brought this up because I was thinking the same thing. It is a good thing to keep discussions focused but focusing them too narrowly can defeat the purpose of having a discussion. And then being scolded and having posts moved all over or deleted is really annoying. No offense, but it is. And before we are told to go elsewhere, would anybody be interested in a Yahoo discussion group for MTs where they can discuss things other than MT work? I know there is one group like that, which shall be nameless, that is dominated by a nasty clique. I would like to start a more friendly one if anybody is interested. Let me know!
