This is so sad.

A few years ago, I adopted an approximately 9-week-old puppy from the SPCA, after my 13-year-old dog suffered a stroke and had to be put to sleep.  This little puppy had been dumped by someone from a car.  Although the person who found her witnessed it, he wasn't able to get the tag number of the car.

She's such a little sweetheart, and she loves to ride in the car, so I try to take her with me wherever I go.  However, it never fails that when we're on our way home, she moves very close to me and keeps her head either on my shoulder or upper arm the entire way home, as if she's glued to me.  Sometimes she starts shaking and shivering, as well.  It's almost as if she's jolted by the memory of being dumped as a puppy, and it makes me so sad each time she does it.  I've always tried to associate the ride with a "treat" of some sort at the very end when we get back home, hoping that she'll eventually connect being rewarded with riding in the car instead of being treated badly, and I keep telling her what a good girl she is and try to pet her and reassure her if I'm at a red light or stop sign.

How can people be so heartless?
