Nobody said that they were a "union" organization -- the UNION (had there ever been one) would have filled that role.
Remember, it was AAMT who was talking about helping MTs unionize. They dropped the ball and never saw that through.
Finally, AAMT did lobby Congressmen (on behalf of the large transcription services). That doesn't sound like just a "trade" organization to me. Their role was supposedly to promote our industry and help us gain respect as professionals -- which would in turn have increased, not decreased, our wages. They failed to do that.
They failed in damned near every respect for the rank-and-file MT. What is that saying -- "What have you done for me lately?" Answer: Nothing.
