I feel people who feel like this post
needs to a) either be a stay at home mother and not work or b) realize that she is no queen bee and I could care less about a degree. What company out here that you know of compensates for having a degree? Means nothing to them. Your working and being there when they assign/need/require/whatever is what you should do IF YOU WANT A JOB in this field, otherwise get out and do something else or become that babysitter.
Need feedback on VR (am feeling so inadequate) inside....
I have not been able to double my lines. Most of the time there is no formatting, having to add a's, an, the, change sentences, add what VR left out even though heard correctly. When I talked to the manager, she say I am not "embracing the software." I feel with so much editing even if the next report is better, I lose so much time on that report and others like it that even having several reports pretty good albeit bad formatting, like not capitalized headings, all clumped together and having to separate out, I lose a lot of valuable time. I don't know how I can embrace anymore, I do use the "tricks and tips" but it doesn't help with the amount of editing. Is it just me, some people aren't cut out for it. When I pointed out at 600 lines I was actually being paid for 300 lines at regular rate but half at 600 lines and she was shocked I felt that way. That with VR it is so much faster. It seems when I compare the two, I am 500 lines a day short of straight dictation from previous. I know it is supposed to take time but how do you do that when your bills are still the same?

I certainly feel your pain. I do 20 to 90-minute reports for psychology. Saturday, my dictator got through about 15 minutes before he realized that the patient he had been describing as a woman was actually a man. He'd even said her "husband" when describing the home life. I had to go back and change she to he, her to him, hers to his, and all the husband info to that of a wife instead! Yes, the patient's name was unisex and it's easy to get mixed up on the first couple of lines, but to describe the spouse and not catch it before then?! I guess he recalled the visual on the mental status exam. LOL
I'm sure this won't make you feel any better, but...
I make $35-$40 an hour. All of my business has come to me through word of mouth because, apparently, the quality of my work speaks for itself. I set the rate, do the work, and go to the bank. It works very well for me and as well as for anyone who is skilled and willing to work.

I have been feeling bad the past couple days about making my sister upset. They think I am too down on their son, which is WAY off mark. I am down with the way they have given him this gift (car), and how he takes it for granted, and how THEY cannot see that. They bought it brand spanking new, and he had it trashed the first few weeks with cigarette stink, never cleaning it, etc. They would drop little hints about how he should maintain it.... but they hate conflict so there you go. By calling this a gift and allowing him to do whatever he choses with it is merely them taking the easy way out. My sister has not had to earn a dime in the past 25 years. Perhaps she does not realize how things like a new car should be EARNED not given... she does not know the value of a dollar. Okay, I better stop.

everyone contributed a funny story about the mistakes they've made. I have one - this one is actually something my aunt did just recently, and she's also been in the business for about 20 years. Instead of "foramen ovale," she sent it in as "foraminal valley" - just had a brain freeze - everybody does it!!

Kids these days think they are entitled to everything handed to them. So and so has this or that and lot's of kids brag and lie. Just stick to your guns. Mine used to tell me that things had changed since I was a teen but not really, i bought my flinstone mobile from my brother for 50 bucks...holes in the floorboards and all.

do computers make you feel sick?
hey, i was just wondering if any of you transcriptionists dread spending so much time on the computer. Do any of you get headaches, or other discomforts from the EMFS or the chemcials outgassed from the computer?
I have a blog where I post info about outgassed chemicals from computers. if you get bad feelings from computers It might be because of the outgassed flame retardants and other chemicals.

Oh please, somebody tried to make me feel guilty for leaving a horrible job using this same line.
How much $$ it cost to train ME. Like I should feel sorry for the company who basically misled me every step of the way regarding hiring, training, accounts, etc., etc. The job was a horrible fit, and I stayed way longer out of guilt. Not worth it! Conditions are deplorable enough for the MTs right now - we don't need to now assume responsibility for how much or how little a company spends to train us. PLEASE!!
I definitely feel like we are dealing with the same person! I think I need to make some phone calls
and put a stop to her! I cannot stand the idea that she is out there still scamming people like she scammed me!

On an episode of Dr. Phil I saw just the other day, he said that children have a hard enough time living outside of a broken home, but should never have to live INSIDE of a broken home. Wise words, in my opinion. I, personally, think you did the right thing and as long as you are taking care of your children and have a decent roof over their heads, he really can't do much. Like you said, if he wants to partake in your children's upbringing then he can come to see them. Unless you moved closer to your parents or siblings then you should probably sit tight where you are since you have a home church and people there who you can talk to. Also, there are very caring people who post here regularly, so please don't give up on this site just because of a bad apple.

Where I feel crazy, I set a goal of around 300 lines an hour (ha! not with these dictators but 250 is still good), every two hours make a snack to get me moving. I love juicing veggies and making fruit smoothies in the blender, coffee makes me nuts. I also do calisthenics (sp?) every couple of hours for about three minutes to keep my blood flowing and keep toned. I walk the dog two times a day for about 10 minutes to get energized from the sun and keep a good color. I take an hour break to watch good ol Judge Judy, and fix myself something nice n yummy, and after Judy I crank out my last hour called the 'power hour' where I take no prisoners and smoke comes off my keyboard! Like a race to the finish line.
I can't see how you could do the 20 and the 10 minute clean break, that would slow me down! Maybe I should take cleaning breaks, because I never want to clean when I have a block of time off and the dirt just collects.
Sorry you feel that way, but we have never allowed offshore MTs to post on the MTStars website.
This is not something new, it's been this way since the beginning. The ONLY difference we made was to allow US based MTSOs that offshore the ability to post job ads because they hire US QA Editors.
Of course you can, but there is a board for that purpose. Feel free to post on the Comedy Stop.

I think it's important to start this subject periodically so that more than just the 50 or 100 MTs who saw the last one can get the information. There are a lot of newbies who don't know what's going on & I think it's important to let them know; besides which, how about a long-time MT who's isolated because of virtual work & virtual colleagues & who maybe has only recently spent any time at all on a board because she's too busy living paycheck to paycheck to pay any attention?
I think in the real world they call this "grassroots politics," & shame on you for dissing it. People find out when they find out. If you don't like it, change channels or start your own board where no one is allowed to talk about that rapacious organization, AHDI.

Because I really haven't seen what I'd call nastiness in this part of the forum. (Now the Political section is a different story!)
The closest thing I've honestly seen to what I'd call a not so nice post was by someone who didn't seem to like the fact that not everybody agreed with her.
But I don't read every single thread so maybe I've just overlooked any other nastiness that might be posted here.

I don't think they keep resumes from different postings. That happened to me. I did not get a response from the first and when I applied with the same company the next week for a different job I was contacted.
Also, make sure you have everything on your resume that a recruiter or AM would want to know, even what type of equipment you have. Do not just list that you have - say - cardiology experience or neurology experience. Be specific about what types of reports, op notes, different tests, etc. Try to think of the things that would eliminate alot of questions and investigation on their part. Hang in there. Check the posts every day. Gets old, doesn't it?

If you do a search for VBC or visible black character there should be some old threads.
I know that some platforms rolled over to this (without warning in some cases). IMO, if they pay by VBC then the line rate should increase accordingly,or pay should be set based on a lower count character line like the companies that already base pay on a 55-character line.
In some cases MTSOs have changed the billing parameters but not the production/pay parameters.

Marla in So. California pays 11 cpl for a 55 ccl, Oracle pays 9-1/2 cpl, MDI-MD 11 cpl, JLG 10 cpl for gross line, etc.
Of course, these are rates negotiated and paid to qualified MTs.
When I see mistakes I repeatedly make, I make a quickcorrect for it (sm)
for example if I type we plant o instead of "plan to" I have a quick corrct so that if I type plant o, it replaces it with plan to, etc. It is hard - I was with the same company for 8 years. I do not work for anyone with an accuracy requirement though.
