outsourcing (their wording) work to India. The contractors in India are now outsourcing the work to other places in India. They figure if we (the US) can outsource American work to India, why can't they outsource the work also. Your medical info is going to be as private as if you took out a billboard and posted it there.

Article about Spheris in the local paper yesterday...
http://tennessean.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20051125/BUSINESS01/511250360/1003/ARCHIVES
Perhaps you are right. This one is dated today. The original article was on Yahoo today also with
But this article states it would only affect new customers right now. So I am upset over nothing. I went through heck with BellSouth when they charged me a surcharge of an extra 50 a month and then would write a letter saying I had to switch to a long distance service and pay by the minute because of my "excessive" use. They told me the unlimited charge was for an average of an hour a day not somebody who worked out of their home and I needed to switch a business plan at over 200 a month charge. I switched over to cable because of that and then to read that cable was going to charging on a per use fee and not a flat monthly fee it upset me. It is the nature of our work, VR, only paying for VBC, having headers and footers taken away, now being charged for being on line, etc. It just seems that everything is done to keep to insure less money.
What a coincidence, an article in last night's paper, sm
Headline:"Woman confronts burglar"
"Sometimes a burglar knocks on the door first, trying to make sure no one is home."
This woman didn't answer her door and then saw the man drive a truck to her back shed and started loading things into it. She asked him what he was doing and he told her he was getting some things for her husband. The guy got away with some of her husband's tools.
So, you are right to be suspicious. Also, there have been burglaries in my county and the surrounding counties where a woman has come to the door first, saying she had car trouble or something, would get a ride from the homeowner, and while he was gone, another person would rob the house. (I live in a rural area and people do things like that - give rides). Now, myself, I don't open the door to anyone I don't know or am not expecting.
Call your local paper and see if they have a route
available in your area. You have to be an early riser and work 7 days a week though. I used to get up at 6:00 to walk. Now I get up at 5:00, walk for one hour every morning with only 65 newspapers, and I make an extra $70 to $80 a week for 7 hours a week.
My sister does 250 papers by car (roadside tubes) and she makes $1000 a month. It takes her 3 hours a day though and she has a full time job, so I think that's a bit much.
Seriously though, papers don't hire kids anymore to deliver because kids just can't or don't want to do it. Besides, who wants their 13-year-old out walking the streets at 5:00 a.m. ?.
No boss, good exercise, good money.
I remember this being in our local paper a few days ago nm

We have a small local paper that comes weekly in the mail...
and I spend most of my time counting the spelling errors when I read it. The best one was the headline one November that proclaimed - HAPPY THANKGSIVING. Did I mention this is a FREE paper. I would never pay for something like that.
Another one I saw a number of years ago, mirrow instead of mirror. And one time at my old job at a manufacturing plant, they were taking a bus trip to some shopping "outlits."
I am a teacher's kid and stuff like that really bugs me. Good thread by the way!
Just gottah share. I read in our local paper about a 3 y.o.battling neuroblastoma sm
a deadly form of cancer. She has undergone 5 chemo treatments and undergoing major surgery on Friday to remove a lemon-sized tumor on her kidney. This story broke my heart. In the article it read that she will undergo 2 stem cell transplants costing 300,000 to 500,000 a piece and her family needs help. They do have insurance, but they will be stuck with whatever insurance does not cover.
So, I forwarded the article to everyone on my email list (plent of them) along with a note stating that if everyone in the city and surrounding city in which we live just gives 25.00 to 50.00 (those who CAN give, not those who simply can't), then we could take care of this precious girl and family! It's times like this when you see the true nature and heart of a person. I have a sister in law whom 3 years ago wrote me this NASTY email after I sent her and many others a email stating that our soldiers were looking for certain items during the start of the Iraq war. She told me NOT to bother her with such nonsense. How cruel can one be? Anyways, I did not send her this article and I won't let idiots intimidate me when all I want to do is help this poor girl!!
I even went so far as to contacging a local web hosting company asking them for a free website for this little girl so that those all across the country can give to this family. And I also thought it would be a great way for the family to share with family and friends across the globe on Chloe's progress and updates! We'll see.
I am going to contact the familyl (after praying about it) and ask if they mind me doing such a thing! I don't think she has a website.... The story broke my heart and I just feel compelled to DO SOMETHING. I have 3 precious children. The thought of any one of them dying from cancer is too much to even bear! I will keep you updated on what the web hoster(s) say about me wanting them to provide a free Chloe website! Cross your fingers and pray for her too.
not sure this will exactly help you, but there was an article in my local newspaper this a.m. sm
that was stating a local doc got in trouble by the board and in part of his requirements it was required for him to use a transcription/dictation service. part of what he got in trouble for was failure to have an H&P on file and proper documentation. it states - for one patient dr. so and so failed to document basic information, including an H&P and treated the patient with excess of 50 narcotic pain medication injections for headaches. yeah, way to go boards!!!!! i'm gonna contact them and see if they need my services, LOL!
I read a local newspaper article about sm
a high school girl started making money at home by converting VCR to DVD. Her grandmother wanted to convert some family stuff, she found out what equipment needed, bought it for grand daughter and off she went. Posted ads on various websites and wants to go full time. Shoot I even thinking. Just have not googled yet to find out what equip. needed/costs etc.
NY Times today had an article...sm
NY TIMES today stating that not only is Dell's tech dept over in India but they are now opening up manufacturing plants in India to make Dell computers there.
See article in its entirety over at the offshoring concerns forum here....at mtstars.
Been a DELL diehard for 7 years and also an HP printer diehard person for 11 years.
There is an Associated Press article in today's sm
paper about increasing car sales in India. The Indian people are enjoying higher wages and are now able to purchase cars. Car makers are scrambling to get pieces of this new, juicy pie.
I wonder how long it's going to take before sending our work to India is not cost effective for the MTSO anymore. The Indian MTs won't be able to live on their 2 cpl anymore and will need more, and more. It's going to be interesting to see this evolve.
There's hope for us!
Hi Ho~~~ they can now use MRIs as lie detectors. Article in USA Today.
just read article today that it's become bad site.
Very interesting article today on offshoring
About India take on offshoring. I don't think they are worried about loss of American jobs.

Here's the article from the Atlanta Journal posted today....
Boy, 3, struck and killed in Gwinnett
By MIKE MORRIS The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Published on: 07/25/05
A three-year-old boy was struck by a vehicle and killed early Monday after wandering away from the Gwinnett County condominium where he was staying.
Gwinnett County police spokesman Darren Moloney said Anthony Lloyd Oscar Littrean was staying with family friends at Olde Mill Crossing complex off Graves Road while his mother was hospitalized giving birth to a sibling.
Officers responding to a 4:30 a.m. report of the missing child found Anthony on Graves Road, across from the complex, Moloney said. He had been hit by a southbound vehicle.
Anthony was taken to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite, where he later died, Moloney said.
"They child was staying with family friends while the parents were at Northside Hospital," Moloney said, adding that Anthony's mother gave birth early Sunday morning.
Moloney said investigators believe the child "defeated the locks at the apartment he was staying at."
"When the family friends became aware the child was missing, they immediately began to search and called 911," Moloney said. "At this time, there is on indication of criminal neglect on the part of the child's caretakers."
He said Gwinnett police were "asking for help from anyone who might have been traveling down Graves Road toward South Norcross Tucker Road, away from I-85."
Moloney asked that anyone with information on the accident call 770-513-5048.
"Our investigators want to stress that it is possible that a [driver] struck the child without knowing exactly what they did," Moloney said. "It's possible a person struck the child without even causing damage to their car."

I've lost a local account today that I have had for five years......
I cannot believe that this happened to me today. I went into one of my doctor's offices this afternoon to pick up his tape for today. I was given a tape and told that his wife, who is the office manager, wanted to see me in her office. I thought nothing of it because she sometimes has extra things that she wants me to type up for her and we talk quite often also.
She tells me that she just has not gotten around to talking with me yet, but "tomorrow we will start dictating through a company over the internet". I was blown away! She said she wanted to give me a break and that if it does not work out she will let me know. The whole time she was tell me this she was writing me a check as I had just turned in an invoice.
My first inclination was to throw that #@%$ tape at her and say "do it yourself", but I knew that wasn't the "professional thing" to do. I was thinking how could she do this to me, not even a 24 hour notice. She handed the check to me, I snatched it and walked out.
I have had this account for five years exactly (began August 1, 2000). I have never took a day off, never raised my rates, never asked anything of them, and my work has always been the best possible quality. I have been the most dependable person they have could had. I have passed up other accounts because of them, and I always put them first. Thank goodness I have other accounts to fall back on. In our town, there is only one other transcriptionist besides myself, and we both have more work than we can handle most of the time.
Just thought I'd remind all those other MTs out there that no matter how good we are and no matter how much we try to please everyone we are still not appreciated. I will never be fooled again. No one will ever receive the attention from me that I gave them.
Buy local. The local stores pay taxes to support your city and state. (SM)
Using online and catalogues does nothing to promote the local economy. We complain about outsourcing and about the big companies gobbling up all the work so the jobs at local hospitals are gone, yet we do the same thing when we buy on ebay, catalog, and these web sites that may be located any place in the world as their primary business location.
I went local. Great local tech support, they know what I do and were able to set it up just for me
:)
HELP with Shorthand. Suddenly today when I tried to start work today.sm
my ShortHand would type only the first letter of an expansion and then take all the letters away! I checked and the Type It button is grayed out! I have restarted the computer and looked on the Shorthand Help menu but can find nothing that applies. Can anyone please help me ASAP? I am lost without it! TIA
Blasted cold out today. It was 104 degrees last week, but it's 40 degrees today with rain.
However, I do like cozy days like today when I don't have to go anywhere. I'm done working, the house is clean, there's chili on the stove for dinner already, and I'm just putzing around. I think I'll go bake some jalapeno cheese bread to go with the chili.
Put it on paper
I was drowning in debt a couple of years ago. I finally bought a book by Dave Ramsey about getting out of debt and I must say, this man is a genius! He also does a radio program daily where he takes calls and gives advice. I now do a budget on paper where EVERY penny is accounted for. It is amazing how much of a difference this has made in my life. No, I don't reuse foil or sandwich bags ... LOL! I have paid off my credit card debt and installment debt. At this point, I'm working on the mortgage. I highly recommend the plan Dave Ramsey pushes for "financial peace" as he refers to it.
I have seen ads in the paper where...
Radiology MTs are paid that per hour. Maybe some of the others are too. I applied at a temp agency to work as an MT and asked for a minimum of $12/hr. I didn't get the job. I was not tested or anything, so I felt maybe they didn't want to pay me the $12/hr.
If you get on with the hospital, not sure if you will eventually be sent home or not, but most hospitals where I live send the MTs home to work. So, maybe try at a hospital near you? However, even though they pay hourly, they have a line count they want you to maintain. I think when they pay hourly, they really stick to the line count minimum to make sure they aren't paying you to do nothing. The minimum line count depends on the hospital.
good luck.
It also says on my paper...
…You may decide to continue working beyond your full retirement age without choosing to receive benefits. If so your benefits will be increased by a certain % between your full retirement age AND age 70. If I did not draw before age 70, I would have an 8% increase in the amount I would get at age 66- whatever that would be, don’t do math.
maybe you put too much paper into it, so that
the printer cannot 'grasp' it, or you put the paper too far away.
Hmm, I have a paper here that I signed that says
they will deduct FICA taxes, pay the employer part of FICA equaling 7.65%, and federal income taxes. It says I will receive a W-2, not a 1099.
FICA is the SS tax. So, if they are holding out federal taxes, FICA, employer part of FICA, then all that is left is state tax...??
Does anyone else get overwhelmed with all the paper
that's constantly thrown at them? I just spent an hour and a half cleaning off my desk. It was covered with mail, books, bills, school papers for all the kids, papers I have to fill out for DH and our oldest, papers to be shredded, stuff I have to do for other people, account specs. This was all just from the past week. I always thought I was a pretty organized person, but this place is a mess.....
What about scrapbook paper?
I know Joann has a big scrapbook paper notebook. It would look cute with a lot of different design/similar color paper hands. We actually did this with a turkey projected and covered the turkey with fall paper. I don't know what your budget is but the notebook is about $10 and you'd probably have a lot left over for other stuff.
I think I missed the ad in the paper that says you must
paint your house a funky color. I'm thinking I missed a huge sale at Home Depot on paint because my neighbors are going crazy with the colors. Yes, I understand home depot and Lowe's screws up paint and you can get the mixed up colors very cheap but geez. My neighborhood is going crazy with weird paint colors on their houses. Two months ago someone painted their house bright green with bright pink trim, then came the peach house with green trim, bright yellow house followed by bright blue house with the leftover yellow trim. New house being built across the street is all burnt orange including the fence. They even painted the driveway burnt orange and not UT vols orange. Now my neighbor is painting hers bright green. It's not a bad neighborhood here in Central Florida and the houses here run from 150s to 300s but these colors are horrendous. I think if I put my house up for sale I won't get an offer because the peach house, green and pink house, and orange house are all on the dead end street I'm on.
Sticky paper
Like I said below I buy my sticky paper through a place that prints up forms. You will need to do some calling to see. It is a little expensive but I provide that in my price. Just do not buy the boxed stuff from Viking or Office Depot or Office Max as they do not not have the perforations on the sides so that when they peel the note it is smaller than the paper and fits on a piece of paper. E-mail me if you have any questions. But if you are in the Seattle area, there are a lot of paper places up there. If you are doing overflow then the main MT should be able to tell you where to get the paper. Also they might provide it as some accounts do. Everyone is different. But CONGRATS -- the first step is the hardest. Knew you could do it. Be sure to ask for lots of examples when you start. Keep me informed. Any questions you can e-mail me. Patti typing without glasses hope don't have many typos.
You can get Sticky paper
You can get sticky paper from Medical Arts Press, get the quick peel that has perforations on the side so it fits on your regular sized paper. It is expensive though, I used to buy the large box, approx $90.00, so if you can get your client to supply it, that would be great. I always had to supply my own.
Sticky Paper
Does any one have any suggestions on a type of paper that can be printed on and then stuck into a patient's chart? I would like to find a lable type to fit in a certain space. Brand names would be helpful. Thank you in advance
Sticky paper
I use an 8 1/2 x 11 label size paper that has about 1/8" inch that peels back on each side so that it is smaller than the paper you place it on. The clinics use it to put the chart notes in the charts. I get it at a form place that makes it. Avery makes 8 1/2 x 11 labels but you have to cut down the sides before you peel back the sheet to place it on the paper and it doesn't have great peel backs either. Call local form places and sometimes they will have perforations 1" or so but I don't like that as you waste a lot when you have to begin another chart note and you have to be sure it is below one of the perforations. Have been using this for 15 years now. Did go with some national companies but the shipping got to be too much. Again, call local paper and form places in your area and see if theymake it. E-mail me wiht specific questions.

Im sure they carry these tyoe of rolls.
Sticky Paper
Hi, I have always used plain computer paper for my reports but have a new doctor who prefers me to use the "sticky" paper. I was wondering if I should charge for the paper, since it is an added cost, and also if anyone knows where to purchase this paper. Thanks.
sticky paper
I have a great supplier Forms & Filing Systems 800-472-0171. Costs about $120 for 1000 sheets. I pass this cost on to my docs.
sticky paper
I'm not sure about the colors. But it is laser quality. It comes in different label sizes. I use a full sheet lable.
Sticky paper
I get mine from a local form company and it comes with 1/4" inch strips on the sides so that when they peel it off to put into the chart the note is smaller than the paper and fits better. I pay $28 per 300 sheets.
Paper version
I don't like having all that "stuck" on one PC just in case they crash. Good luck!
the paper shuffles and
the conversatons chatting to the nurse or, to me even worse, the minutes of absolute DEAD time when there is NOTHING! Although actually it all adds up to the same thing. Wasted time and mney for the MT.
Yes, but TELL him you need paper. Employer

Paper Trail
True True. I have the papertrail and the pay receipts and trail of if it was cashed that go together. Each earning invoice for ICs have pay stub and proof stapled together.
gas, time away from PC, ink, paper
I think 15 is good. When you are away from your desk and delivering, you are essentially not generating income, so. Plus don't forget the INK, it is costly. Better include a notation of extra costs for:
Hunt up reports and reprints (that can really be abused)
If they want a faxed copy stat
if they cannot locate a report and you need to research (TIME) and reprint & INK & PAPER and deliver. No this is not piddly things, it is time, lost income, cost of supplies.
Just like if a patient came back and ask for a quicky relook, they forgot something, after they just left, this is reset up of exam room, find the chart, chart notation, staff time, physician time and they want it for the same price. See what I mean.
If they want a stat report (you are stopping what you are working on to do their STAT report. Indicate the quicker Turn Around Time charges in writing so they don't forget .....(other than the agreed to time)
sounds good on paper.
but absolutely makes no sense in applying it in the real world.
Oh, I do exactly the same as you, but I hate all the wasted paper. nm
x
Yep, it all sounds so good on paper
either way I look at it, the problem is, there is nothing to rent here. If my #1 lender falls through and I have to go with #2, it may be possible the seller MAY let me rent for a year, maybe even rent to own. If lender #1 fails, I will be asking. All they can say is no. Originally seller purchased home to rent it and changed their mind, it has been for sale for 2 years, sold twice but financing fell through for other parties.
I'm am going to try for 50/50 with the father of the children as I will need him nights, and he will need me days so we don't have to pay daycare. I will be covering insurance for the kids so yes I will need him to pay some extra to me.
Paper mache lanterns...
On this morning's second episode of the the Carol Duvall show on HGTV they had some cute stuff including some paper mache lanterns that would be inexpensive and simple to make. I always prefer homemade stuff, 'cause kids learn how to make things rather than buying everything at the store.

why need see if you can make a header on your paper sm
to put their preprinted info on there rather than having to worry about a new printer, different type papers, etc. this sounds like it would solve all if agreed upon and aren't that hard to set up in word. then you could have that set in your template when you pull open your work.
