My eldest daughter's family...
were raised in an apartment and there were 6 kids with 2-3 bedrooms. They all still live in the same building and love it. I think it's kinda neat.

Transcribing Report Of Family Member
I am wondering what the proper protocol would be if I ever came across a report that was dictated on one of my family members.
I just started doing transcription for a hospital in a really small town--the ONLY hospital in that town--and it just happens to be the same town were most of my family lives. I know myself well enough to know that I won't break any rules of confidentiality. However, is there anything in the *laws of transcription* that say I legally am not allowed to transcribe reports dictated on relatives??
I am afraid to ask my supervisor this question, as I really like this account and don't want her taking me off of it. It's chopped full of *standards* and the line count/pay just doesn't get any better than this.

Where the hell is your compassion for people who could not control what happend???? Not ALL of them are guilty of the crimes we see on TV - you dont have to take them into your home - but if it was YOU - wouldnt you want some place to go???? You need some sensitivity counseling.

also....wayyyyy back in the late 60's and early 70's when I actually worked in a doctor's office or hospital, if patient's name was Norman, 75% of the time I typed Normal. What is really funny....my father's name was Norman Hassell...can you imagine anyone being a "normal hassell"? Even funnier still, my mother named me Joy....so guess you can say I'm a "happy hassell"!! and a lefty at the same time; people tend to steer clear of me!!! Have a good day. Big huge storm moving across our little island right now; got to shut down and unplug everything.

Just heard that has been put on hold for now, on the news. The people do not want to leave to go so far away from their homes (or what was their home).
Is your state taking any evacuees?
 Or are they all here in Texas? I've heard people who are volunteering at the Astrodome say that they throw trash on the floor, drop food, etc.etc. and expect the volunteers (I guess) to pick it up for them. If your state isn't taking any in, why not?

over the past 4 years, I have had slow work once or twice but have never run out. Now, that doesn't mean that possibly some accounts were not out but the accounts I work on provided me with work so that I never lost a line from it.

I am a life long Texan, even born here, and so of course I am slightly prejudiced! I cannot imagine living anywhere else. I am 20 minutes from Dallas shopping and 10 from a new mall here. The good part is - next week the temperature high is to be in the low 70's. Also about 20 minutes from big lakes! Good luck.

I live in a small rural area and they housed some evacuees at a nearby military base
crime went UP in our little community that previously HAD a ~very low~ crime rate. It is a FACT. I'm not saying all NO residents are like that, but MANY seem to be.
My mom was raised in conditions like this poster describes. Mom's parents died when she was 7 (father) and 9 (mother). Her teenage sister (newlywed) raised her and 4 other siblings. They had next to nothing. Not ONE of them turned to a life of crime. Not ONE even graduated high school but they still made good lives for themselves. Life was rough for them, but they didn't blame it on everyone else and cry around about what the president should be doing for them. It is all about RESPONSIBILITY and taking what life throws your way. IMO.

Yes, I do believe I can do 16,000 lines per payperiod. I do 25,000 every 2 weeks where I am now on a very large account that has 4 hospitals. I am holding onto that job until I make sure this one fits.
I've done this 18 years and I know pretty well what I am capable of so yes, I can do the work. I am told there are a lot of Hispanic ESLs and those are my favorite to do.
Of course, one never really knows until they get started. So, we will see.

MT jobs in Texas - Dallas or Austin

With my job (non MT), I have the chance to move to either Austin or Dallas. I'd be bringing my girlfriend with me but this means she'd have to leave her current MT job which works directly with a hospital. Does anyone have any pointers on who's hiring for MTs in either Austin or Dallas preferably working out of the home? She currently makes 75k a year since her employeer provides a lot of double overtime. Could this much be made in Austin or Dallas? She'd possibly look at working for an outsourcing company as well (hopefully with benefits). Any pointers on outsouring as well would be nice.

You do not need the 1099. You just need to report the income. Report the company/person ...sm

I charge the same amount for a "normal" report as for any other report.
You still have to listen to the dictation and change anything that's different. I had one woman try to pull this on me. She'd dictate, "Just pull up my normal, but change this, change that, switch that around, move that, add this, delete that, and change the other." Then she'd only want to pay me what equated to $.03 per line. She wanted 1:1 on her dictation to transcription ratios. I told her to take her cheap account down the road because I'm worth more than that.
There is a church in Gonzales that is a small church but housing evacuees.
Helping a small church could be the best way to help someone.
Their web page says they need everything from personal items to clothing and bedding to food and water, don't forget first aid supplies. They said you could send money but there's nothing there to buy anyway.

i live in MA and $1200-$1400 a month is what good health insurance costs, ie $20-$40 copays. it was just passed into law that if you live in MA you have to have medical insurance so without being self-employed, you can go right to BCBS etc and get a plan directly from the major health insurace companies, but for a family plan and a decent income bracket, forget it. the prices are outragous. right now my husband pays $120 a week for family plan and this is after his employer pays 30% of the total cost. we have $20 copays, but we have a $2000 individual deductable per year with a $4000 family deductible cap. so when my daughther needed her tonsils out, $2000 and when my son broke his arm, $2000. someone on this board has to be able to tell you what they pay for insurance through their company as an employee. good luck.
If you are careful with putting the correct report in the correct report shell and patient, you will
not have any problems. I only take away this option when someone is careless. There can be NO room for error on this. One mistake can be very serious. Many do it well though, so just double check and you will be fine.

My daughter...
She was just over 2 when it was pretty obvious mom just wasn't enough! She was bored with the trips to the playground, the toys, the trips to the store, etc.
Her pediatrician told me she needed more socialization. A SIGN OF THINGS TO COME!! So I found a great nursery/day care at the local church and she just loved it. When I picked her up the first day, she told me I came too soon. Talk about hurt feelings!! I was in agony all day and she was having the time of her life without me.
Well, now she's beginning her second year of college next week and is totally bouncing off the walls... pretty much like she did when she was 2.
It's good your daughter can't wait. It may just be a sign of independence and self-confidence. Don't take it personally. They don't appreciate us until they have their own kids!!

that I'd rather her be mad at me for making her ride the bus when she's sleep deprived than having to pick out her body at a morgue from an accident.
Frankly at 10 p.m. every night I'd take the cell phone away and make it clear to anyone that called that it is not acceptable to call after that time. Her friends will get the message quickly and will learn to respect your rules.
Too many parents this day and time are afraid to set rules for their kids to follow, but that's the parents fault. They need to remember who's the adult and who's the child and set/abide by ground rules. Studies show that the more parents intervene in their kids life the less likely they are to drink, do drugs, have sex or get into trouble with friends.

and I have gotten into the habit of taking the dog out and having a little walk around the neighborhood when I get off work at midnight. I'm going to miss that. I'm not having the "ready for her to go back" feeling at all this summer, but I have had the feeling in the past sometimes.

She decided she was ready so she did it, and she loves them. She is almost 8 now and she nor I have regretted it. Personally, my sister was 3 and I was 4 when we had our's done. I think it depends on the child.

I let her get her ears pierced for her 6th birthday.

She was allowed at 10 but was afraid. LOL. A lot of people asked me why I didn't get her ears pierced as a baby, but I just felt that was something for her to decide. She turns 13 in September and wants to get her second holes. I told her that I will get mine done too.
I just felt 10 was an age where she could decide and also take care of her ears and earrings. Everyone has their own opinion on this, I don't think anyone is really wrong. Good luck.

My daughter and I took it - we both
had no benefit from it, and also my daughter had a very severe allergic reaction. We tried them all Concerta, Focalin, Strattera, all with no help at all. Our neurologist just tried us about 2 months ago on Metadate CD, one of the original ADD meds, and its a MIRACLE. I was only diagnosed this year, after my daughter, and after first I sobbed after taking Metadate, as I never knew brain calm, so to speak. I then read on a doctors' website on ADHD/ADD that you know you have the right med when you get that reaction - sobbing with relief, and also sadness at what you have been thru without realizing it!! Its been about 1.5 months, and she and I are both doing great. The interesting thing is that the meds are speed, basically, but if you have ADD, they don't have that effect on you - they plug in your brain. The ones who speed on ADD meds and also abuse them are ones who don't really have ADD - thus its like cocaine to them! Feel free to write if you want to talk about anything - its been quite a shock to me to accept that I have ADHD, but its getting easier! Provigil is basically an experimental one for ADD - it seems the old ones have the best results!

in another country? The posts on down the board are appalling, some of them anyways! I would hope that any parent in their right mind would be right there, no matter where "there" is, if their child were missing. I know I'd be whereever I had to be. I could not rest until I was there, waiting and helping to find my child. I'd go to the ends of the earth to get my daughter back, no questions asked. And maybe people are donating money to them so they can stay in Aruba and help find their daughter, as well as keep their lives going back here at home. Where has compassion gone? It's truly sad that we ridicule people for simply wanting desperately to find their lost child. Just Sad.
