Sorry meant discrimination and reverse-discrimination. My typing got ahead of my brain! nm
sorry for the typo but my heart was in the right place. :)
You are me in reverse (sm)
I tend to ignore life forms, smile at no one, and conversation? What the heck is that???

Did what you did, but in reverse..
Mrs. Chippy,
I did the opposite of what you are doing. OPS were always my favorite and I did them for years. I quit the company I had been with for years and now am working on clinic notes for a different service, which I find I'm enjoying so far. I always thought I wouldn't like clinic notes. Of course, it's only been three days, so I might have a change of heart after I do 100 of them.

OPs are hard to learn, but once you get the terminology and phrasing down, it's good line count because they usually speak fast and don't sit there and drone on and on talking a word a minute.

Just type a first draft all the way through, leave blanks, then go back and fill them in as best as possible. Leave the rest to QA. Even after doing OPs for years, there was hardly a day I didn't have a blank.

I think I did OPs too long and that's why I finally needed a break. I was changed to ER's when I started slowing down on OPs but I just couldn't stand them. Maybe it was the dictators, but I just couldn't stay awake doing ER's, although it was really good line count. It was so frustrating to do a 3 or 4 page ER report on someone who had a cut on their finger or other tiny thing. Then add that to a dictator with a monotone voice, and I'm falling out of my chair in a narcoleptic fit.

Good luck with the OPs!

ooh lucky you - I get the reverse - 80% reg;

Because think of the reverse, when you worked in the office...
did you ever see the director of med rec ask doctors to dictate their old stuff, so there would be enough work for MTs? when we were low on work in the hospital,a deficiency list would be sent out, and then boom a bunch of dictation...

hospitals are doing anything and everything they can to cut costs, even as mentioned above, hiring ICs on the side. health care is purely a business now, and I would bet not a day goes by every hospital in America asks the question, how can we cut back on the cost of dictation?

if that were not true, you would not have the HUGE push for the technology and the HUGE push for outsourcing, overseas or not.

think about this, also. we are only working at home for these companies, because hospitals decided it would be cheaper than paying health benefits for full-time MTs, office space, etc etc.

I do not put anything past people who are 100% money-driven these days.

you do make a great point, though, about the billing and DRGs, etc., but I still think they are told to 'cool-it' whenever they can...
Reverse tennis elbow? sm
After 10 years of transcribing, just the last couple of months I am having inflammation and tenderness on the inside of my left elbow.  Not on the right, just the left.  Ergonomics?  Might be.  I have tried putting a folded up towel on the arm of my chair, raising my elbow, and that helps a little.  Anyone else every had this?
If it's discrimination - SM

why do companies hiring MTs as ICs/employees ask for that information, plus two forms of ID. In order to work in this country, you must prove you are a US citizen.

I have had several occasions when applying for work as an IC that I have been asked not only for two forms of ID but a birth certificate as well.

That's age discrimination.
.
Discrimination
Anymore we all have some form of discrimination and I am sure it will only get worse.  I detest the fact that my husband and I have to sign for allergy meds Alavert-D or Claritin-D at the pharmacy and can only get one package at a time because some "low life druggies" are using these drugs and other compounds in this "free world" to make their so-called "goodies" so that they will have less brain cells than they already do.   How disgusting!  I know what they are doing is making it safer for us, but at the same time is a pain in the butt.
Try doing a functional resume instead of a reverse chronological one.
Focus on your strengths instead of on your former employers. It's your job skills that are important, not how many MTSOs or nationals couldn't keep you busy enough.

* Ten years of multispecialty experience.
* Such and such software skills.
* These reports and those specialties.
* Motivated self-starter, blah blah blah.

Here's a nonMT example of a functional resume.

Reverse poll: What are the 2 things your DH loves about YOU? see msg

After reading the poll a few threads down, last night I asked my hubby what were the two things he loved about ME the most.  Without hesitation he said:  "your encouragement" (towards him) "and your intelligence."  (This is coming from a learned man himself.  That was truly uplifting.)

Still Reverse Poll: What are the 2 things you hate about your DH?

I would reverse the media player back
and see if that corrects the problem. If so, you might either decide you don't need the upgrade or contact Windows about a fix...

Make sure your plug is all the way in - sometimes it looks like it is but isn't seated.

Just do a restore to the day before you did the upgrade - or if you are uncomfortable with this uninstall the software and test your headphones...

just a thought.
you want reversed discrimination?

My husband is a student there. Each class is 5 weeks. He has had the same students in his class since the beginning. The whites are always working hard on projects and presentations. The blacks do ABSOLUTELY NOTHING but they are passing the classes. All of the whites who have them in their group have complained about this. The reason is, the students pass on the basis of groups rather than on an individual basis. If there are 3 whites and 1 black, the black does nothing but is considered part of the group and passes.

THIS IS A FACT!!!

major discrimination
My husband works for an agent with a major insurance company.  He is not the agent although he does have to have agent's licensing. We were told probably 15 years ago, that a white male would not be allowed to become an agent for many, many years due to people (this happened to be two women) who declared that they were discriminated against in this company.  So to compensate for discrimination this national company will not hire a "white male" for the appointed amount of time (which was a very extended time period of many, many years) unless that "white male walked on water."  That was their quote too.  I have heard (but have not verified this) that this same "discrimination" is going on in the medical field.  Therefore, you have all the ESL's who are able to get into med school but the American Caucasian is not chosen because you cannot discriminate.  My question is "Who is really being discriminated against?"  In my husband's company -- It is the Caucasian white male and I have a feeling that it is the Caucasian that is discriminated against in the medical field as well.
Discrimination and ESLs
What do you think should be done about the inferior treatment that was heaped upon other groups of people for centuries? I believe your comments were mean spirited and insensitive, and if I were you, I would search my heart and think about what is in it. ESLs help to keep MTs busy and sharpen our listening skills. One of the worst accents I ever had to transcribe for was from the United Kingdom--where "proper" English is spoken. We now live in a global society, a diverse America, and there is no going back to how things were before. Thank God for that!
Maybe a discrimination issue
They can tell your race and age that way, and for an employee application it is probably illegal. For an IC it's completely out of line since the I in IC stands for independent ie. none of their business. Would you ever make such a demand of a doctor, plumber, lawyer, etc.?
You have to have lots more with discrimination
charges. What you have said in your note are "looking up and down" and things you take as being discrimating, nothing really. Your changes of really a suit like this would be about a big 0. Insurance companies are to make money- what about all the homeowners being cancelled on the coast because hurricaines hitting other places and not theirs? It happens! A company can turn you down for any reasons - regardless of your passing their test- they don’t have to hire you. I have looked all over your original post and nothing here that would be a court case. Saying making room, asking if they could eat a cake? If it were chocolate and I was really in the mood, yes I could eat a couple of pieces and so? Most could, they just don’t say they could!
And how about that AGE DISCRIMINATION! Only hire
.
Unfortunately, NO. Didn't help me. It made me depressed. Reverse effect. nm
x
AGE DISCRIMINATION - agree w/ poster below. nm
nm
It is called 'reverse discrimination' and there
concerning this a few years ago.  I don't know what the outcome was.
That is discrimination......there is a National Awareness Group
to fight against obesity discrimination. Look into that......I don't think, by law, insurance companies can do that, but I may be wrong.

Really, that is awful. It is a form of discrimination, just like not having a seat on an airplane to fit larger people. Eventually, all planes now are supposed to accommodate those with disabilities and I think obesity has been labeled a "Disabiilty' of late.

Check into it further, for your own benefit. Good luck and I wish you well.
Working in Word, and suddenly my screen splits into two pages, and I can't reverse it. HELP!
Does anyone know what I've done and what I can do to get it back to just one window? It is Word 2003 on a XP platform, if that helps any. Thanks.

It would be discrimination to care about nationality of person you are hiring.
People can't hide accents.  Can you hide your regional American accent?  For instance if you are from New York, can you hide that and speak in a Georgia/Southern accent?  What are you thinking?
Okay, I hate to be the one to scream law suit, but this reeks of discrimination.

I would seriously check out the descirmination laws in your state because that is exactly what this is....  Oh as a Large and Lovely girl myself, I am furious along with you.  Okay not that I would ever want to work for a company who had the moral ethics of a flea, but they need to learn that they cannot treat people like this.   Man the nerve..

Ebonics: Not a black thing or white thing. (sm)

I don't think there's any cause to get upset or defensive here.  Look it up on line...even colleges are offering courses in Ebonics!  ...well of course they are more sociology-type courses, but still, people are PAYING to learn about the why's and how's of this "other" language.

A quote from one of the sites I found:

"UT-Austin's "Introduction to the Study of African American English," teaches students that the sentence, "Nobody didn't leave" is not "mainstream English with mistakes," but rather a legitimate English dialect. "Ebonics: Myth and Facts" and "African-American English" are both offered at Harvard. Penn and UCLA also promote Ebonics as a legitimate dialect in, "Introduction to African American and Latino English" and "Afro-American Sociolinguistics: Black English," respectively."

Best thing - I am my own boss and my own emloyee, worse thing - I am my own boss and my own

:P

A "man" thing? What the heck is a "man thing?"

"I was told it was a "MAN" thing and everyone does it (i guess all men)"

whenever anyone takes an action and relates it to a whole gender and then tags on everyone does it....well, I guess there's your answer

And the best thing of all, it's
s
Thanks gj...the only thing I can tell you...sm
is that I just worked some overflow stuff and kept looking until I found what I wanted. I am lucky enough not to have to depend on my income right now, so I was able to be much more picky. If you would like more info, let me know and I can email you. Hope all works out well with you and thanks for the good wishes.
one more thing sm
I was only referring to the bitter ones here who work for MQ, not all MQrs.  I am one of the MQrs, ya know! Please get your facts straight before you post a response!
One more thing... (sm)
Tell her if she is willing to travel, there are PLENTY of jobs for traveling coders.
I just had to add one thing (sm)
You need to stop thinking you are owed, whatever the situation may be.
Hard work does pay off and if you're working for the wrong people, there are many more out there. I've found a lot of "wrong people" in this business, LOL.

one more thing...sm
I suck at OP notes...does this matter?
YOU ARE SO RIGHT - IT WAS THE BEST THING I EVER DID ALSO!
And I too heard from companies I didn't even know existed!

I was told by a couple of them that they don't post on this board because they received calls and resumes from people who did not read what the positions were for and it was a nightmare. They made requests for no overseas need apply and of course, overseas would call and apply. If it was a certain requirement, say 5+ years experience, newbies would apply. Just things like that.
same thing
This profession is going to hell in a hand basket.
The only thing I have to say is sm
why on earth would anyone stay with ANY company if they are treated so poorly?  A good MT still has a whole lot of options.  Assuming these complaints about SS, MQ, KS, Spheris, whatever company, are true, why do people continue to work for them?
one more thing
Go you for watching something that is hard to watch and for trying to inform yourself and others, please spread the word, what an idea to get this into schools, but probably will never happen. There are many videos out there that you can purchase for nominal fees and hold private showings for friends and family members, one person tells one person and so on, keep the information flowing!!!!
one more thing (sm)
If you are talking about disability insurance on your mortgage, credit account, etc. be very, very careful when you purchase it.  Read the fine print on the contract.  A friend of mine is terminal and had disability insurance on a number of her accounts.  The one on her second mortgage is still paying.  She had one on a credit card and those weasels charged her $15 every month for the insurance fee, paid $16 on the balance of her credit card each month, and then after a year said they were done paying!  Read the fine print!!
My dad is going thru the same thing....
From what I was told he is having all checks made out to her estate and not him personally (he is the executor).  She had some stocks ($2000-$3000).  If the checks were made out to him he has to pay tax on them but if they are made out to my grandmother's estate then she is responsible but since she did not make enough money in 2005 there will be no taxes taken out.  I may be wrong but that is my understanding of the situation.
VR may NOT be the Next Big Thing...
MedQuist has been trying for years to push VR on the hospital radiology department I transcribe for and they absolutely REFUSE to use it. MQ was always like "try it, you'll like it" and I believe they did try it one day and that was it. MQ finally gave up. So there is hope for us all yet!
My son did the same thing.

He was in football and really did well.  Everyone in the family always talked about how great he was with football.  Then he decided to quit one day.  I was so disappointed because I knew he could have gotten a college scholarship.  It is SO tough to be supportive of someone when you think they're making the wrong choice.  My Dad got on my son's case about being a quitter and an underachiever.  He really came down hard on him, so I had to defend my son.  In defending my son, I changed my own thinking.  I realized that although we give birth to these adorable little babies, they are their own person.  They're going to do things that we would have done differently.  What can you do?  You can't impose your will upon them.  We all have dreams for our children.  However, their dreams are more important than our expectations of them.

My son just did the same thing...

to him and we all had to adjust our schedules to accommodate him and he just quit.  This was going to be his senior year on the varsity team.  Unfortunately, he did not participate in anything else for his whole high school career, so now he has no activities resume.  You can't tell him anything though.  He does do extremely well in school and takes several APs as well, but it was disappointing.  He was going to try to get an internship with our local hospital, but of course, that never panned out.  Now he works about 15 hours a week and hangs out the rest of the time.  His attitude is getting really crappy too, but his father won't do a thing about it.  He took his car the other night, but gave it back to him the next morning.  Yeah...that really taught him a good lesson :(!  He has been really frustrating me lately.  He is a great kid and when he is good he is the best, but when he isn't, he is just unbearable.  He's not into drugs or drinking or partying and is a homebody, so I guess I have no real complaints.  Maybe it's me not handling his new "adultness."  pheww....that was a vent and a half!

Same thing here
Arizona-- not even in the HOTTEST part. Couldn't stand to live there any more. I am anxiously awaiting fall, too.
Going through the same thing.
It is VERY frustrating.
I did the same thing...
There were 3 different times I have done this.  Twice, I needed to be out of town and once last month when my daughter had surgery. It wasn't so much the money as making my minimum lines for my phone reimbursement, which I am still waiting for after 6 months of putting in the second line, but that is a whole other thread!
and another thing
That's how I even learned what a macro, expander, acronym was - when I worked for MQ/TL 10 years ago.   These are tools now thare are quite invaluable to me.  $120 investment was worth.  Sounds like a lot, we probably spend that on the first two isles in Wal-Mart.......
same thing

happened to me.  I canceled the credit card.  Also recently when I had to find a new physician/medical group, I asked if they outsourced to another Country and if they did I did not choose them.  I wonder how many patients would stay with a physician/medical group if they knew their records were going somewhere else, granted some have no choice.

It is one thing to have fun, but that was
disgusting and perverted. I bet that guy was a molester or something.
I get the same thing
It's a big joke. They don't realize how they are pushing people right out of their once great company and they are heading right down the tubes, under bidding jobs, promising things they can't keep and taking it out on who? The people who make the money for them. With MTs, no Medical Transcription company!
