There is also the possibility that someone was standing in line for an elderly person, again

"take one line from a post and use it against the person" - read your own quote

not a liar, not an old person, I make waaaaay over $20/hour, probably double (CA, .15-.17 line) sm
I have two accounts of my own and do vacation coverage for a few other MTs as well as occassional work for a lawyer and a psychologist. I charge .15 for one clinic and .17 for the other clinic... clinic #2 is a husband/wife neurologist team, and the husband was a major A&& at first... with a very strong accent and every possible bad dictator habit you can imagine. I told wife I would transcribe for her, but not for him, I had plenty of business. She said charge whatever you want, have whatever turnaround time you want, just please don't leave. At the time they were at .12... so I upped them to .17. That was 5 years ago and now after having gotten to know him and his *quirks* I adore them both. I am an IC, but they give me very large gift cards for Christmas, kind of in lieu of a bonus, I guess.
Clinic #2... just this week took on another physician and I told them point blank it was too much for me to provide quick service and they may want to consider a service. They said no way, we changed the turnaround time to one week with stats as needed. I even asked them if they considered voice recognition and the office manager laughed and laughed.
I am just now putting both clinics on digital, and after the initial cost, this will increase my estimated hourly wage as it will take away my delivery time and cost, and my paper and ink printing cost and time. Though I still plan to visit each office on a regular basis for customer service and because I know my customer service is what got me here in the first place.
For the *occasional* work, the lawyer and pysch I charge $50/transcription hour.
I know you will all doubt me. But I work extremely hard, have put in my time with my education - not just learning MT but learning the ropes of running a business and how to do everything smarter, faster, and in the most efficient and sensible way possible. I also have another business I do in a totally different field! I am very blessed. Well, I also know the fields I have chosen were perfect for me, and also I've had good luck. You know what I think though? I think my sense of humor and just being as honest and open and observant as possible has made this possible.
is this the person who makes 1 cent a line extra for $6000 a year?
how many lines a day and what do you normally make in a year because to reach an extra $6000 wouldn't you have to be typing way above average which is say 1200 a day for most of us, or 6000 lines a week.
encouraging someone to get their CMT based on $6000 a year extra, perhaps you could give more details because I have never worked for a company who would do that, not unless perhaps you were also a huge producer of lines.
Thank you...
Someone close to me, elderly, just
died of pneumonia after a fall. I can't tell you how many reports I have been typing lately of elderly people in the hospital with pneumonia after falls and really feel for these people. Suddenly, these reports all hit home.
Yes they can - especially elderly males.
nm
TP is an elderly 62 you woman. LOL
x
Pneumonia is the elderly man's friend. SM
Sometimes it's an easy way out for somebody who's just gone and gone downhill.
Why? Do you associate them with elderly women? sm
The hot names today, Ashley, Brittany,Taylor, etc., will one day be associated with old, overweight women and thus be considered ugly, elderly names. Better to stick with classics like Elizabeth, Mary, Sarah.
caring for elderly parents
My dad died last year at age 89, my mom died last month at 92. My husband and I and our three kids moved in to my parents house 8 years ago to help my parents (I also have 3 siblings). We lived with my parents, and I cooked, cleaned, took them to doctors appointments, etc. My siblings did not do much, even living close by. It was a mistake, my mother said it was her house and not mine and Alzheimer was setting in on both parents. we ended up moving out as I was very unhappy as was my family. My parents health got worse, 24 hour nursing care, finally a nursing home for mother. They had to sell their house to pay for the nursing home because they did not trust anyone to have anything in their names and now everything goes to probate for the estate, which is now hardly anything. Anyone who has aging parents should contact an elder lawyer and know the laws of your state, have bank accounts put in sibling name or even lawyer's name. I really tried to take care of my mother and father but they were very stubborn, would not listen to anyone, took risks and fell etc, and it was not a good thing for anyone to watch. My siblings were all in charge of my parents care for the last four years and they realized what I had gone through. It is very difficult and you try to help but sometimes it does not work. Yes, I loved my parents and tried the best I could, but sometimes it just will not work with living with them as they get so set in their ways. I am a very easy going person. I just know that I will set up will and trusts, etc for my family
Do you have EMS standing by? lol
I so appreciate your standing up for me
I do not have to make this up at all. My husband then on dialysis at the same hospital where I worked and this physician on the staff there. My regular doctors there, husband's nephrologist there, I felt in a bind in my ability to do anything at all. I know mistakes made in plastic surgery as far as blotch jobs sometimes but I would think similar has happened before and after me. If I had worked somewhere else, I probably would have persued it further but I could not chance it, raising children and sending to college also. I was behind the 8 ball. I don't know why people come down so hard on another on these posts. If you don't believe, fine, no problem. I thought that $3,000 was not worth my losing my job, losing my insurance on my husband including burial which I had to use eventually, all income. Just didn't make that much sense to me and let it go. Thanks again for your post above!
Try standing
There are desks on the market that can be raised and lowered so you can stand at your station and type for awhile and then sit back down. This may help some people who find it difficult to sit for 8 hours. Just a thought. Some people work better standing and some sitting.
That's a possibility. sm
But the ones I was referring to in my first post were questions from people already hired and were posted on their company board. I couldn't believe how many that were asking the simplest questions that should have been learned in school or at least after a few months on a previous job. How do they get hired without experience? But maybe it's like you say, they lie on the interview and cheat on the employment test. Even on some of the other word boards there are a lot of questions about things that should already be known if hired.
I think there is also the possibility...
of a Rodney King riot that will make said riot look like a picnic. I pray so much I'm wrong.
Job Possibility
I have possible job opportunity as an MT working for a hospital, at-home, $15.64/hour, with incentive pay over 70 minutes of dictation, weighted, so $1.10 for each report after the 70 minutes. Does this make sense? I didn't want to sound like a dummy when talking with these folks. Would someone please explain? For hard dictation (YIKES ESLs!), it is 150 weighted. Is this a good deal or not? About how many minutes is 70?
Job Possibility
This job is at Memorial Medical Center in Modesto, California. Thanks for the information.
job possibility
-take it quick
Job Possibility
Thanks to everyone for the responses. This hospital has 2 openings (Memorial Medical Center, Modesto, CA). One is for a "lead MT," which, I'm sure, pays more. Good luck to ya.
Agree 1 million percent about the elderly
HMOs is what I assume you mean as managed care??? I don't like them at all but am stuck with one through the city insurance when I was hurt on the police dept. However, I have been extremely fortunate in Virginia Beach area to have some of the best doctors and the payment is low. I have been through the ringer and back int the whew 14 yrs now since my accident. But I have never been denied a test or a treatment. I did have my beloved neurosurgeon leave because of HMO regulations. But he came back to the area once they met his demands. He is a patient first doctor hands down all of mine are. Where are you from. I here all this garbage about terrible health care etc. etc. I honest to God have had zero problems with mine. I could pay extra and get the pick your own doctor insurance for about dbl what I pay for an HMO but all my doctors are on the list and I am happy. My dad is on Medicare at 80 and has had no problems with any care. Nor did my mom before she passed away. Which was her fault she wouldn't go to the doctor and had breast CA but that's a whole other topic. When she finally did go to the doc and it had spread to her bones, she got great care and at a minimal cost. Several operations, tests, chemo, radiation the works...I don't understand. They took Medicare or Medicaid whichever one you get when you are of age and got the AARP supplement and did fine with it...
Good for you for standing up to these
You are so correct in that the reign is so tight, it is hard to get ahead. Medquist is probably the worst place ever. Those people there are not happy either, so you're probably lucky you lasted a week there.
Good luck to you! I'm with you on this one, but fortunately, I have my own accounts, so no need to have upper management or shirts on my case.
I wish you all the luck in the world! You go girl!!!!!!!!!! From an admirer who says get out while you are still keeping afloat! I plan to get my youngest through elementary school, and I'm outta this profession as well.
And one more--Does anyone ever type standing up?
I know it sounds a little strange, but sometimes I just plain get tired of sitting and have thought if I had a raised tray for the keyboard and could easily elevate the monitor, it could work.
This opens up the possibility of
identify theft. What if they do not keep the info in a secure location. Employees could get access to it. What if somebody hacked into their system. How secure are their files and system. I don't truse anybody.I would quit before I gave this information to anybody. You could very easily have credit cards opened in your name, etc.
That I don't know. Could be possibility. Never thought of that. nm

I have found taking them to a high rise for the elderly (sm)
and leaving them in the lobby for people to enjoy is a great way to make both you and some senior citizens feel pretty good.
Sorry! missed the part about apartment and elderly woman below you
So I'm thinking the jumping jacks and/or the exercise video aren't the greatest tips. How about an exercise bike?
I take it that's Patti standing in the doorway??
Hi Patti!
Standing ovation to you! I agree sm
500%!
Extra work possibility
Just wanted to post something that might help those of you looking for work... while I realize this is a medical transcription board, with our work being outsourced more and more each day, we have to do what we have to do to earn a paycheck.
After talking with a police officer and hearing how many hours they spend doing written reports of calls/incidents, I mentioned that it was too bad they could not dictate their reports and have them transcribed. He really liked the idea and so did I as I thought more about it. I finally scheduled an appointment with the Chief of Police and made a proposal to him. I had to do some research -- average pay per hour of a police officer x hours per day spent writing reports, etc, -- but that was not too difficult to get.
To make a long story short -- he tried this with a couple of his officers on their lengthy and very detailed reports.
Because it allows more time for actually being a police officer instead of being tied up writing illegible reports by hand, they love the idea.
I submitted my bid, which was approved, and the contract was signed. There is never a dull moment with this!
Joint tenderness is another possibility.

another possibility is it got lost in the shuffle
With all the names for the bride to keep track of (half of them being all new to her) , its very possible that your name just got lost in the shuffle. I've seen it happen many times where a thank you card got lost, or an invitation was never sent simply due to an oversight. As a recent bride, I can say that I started writing my thanks-you's the moment we got back from our honeymoon and I was so nervous that I may have accidentally missed someone when writing 150+ thank you's, it happens sometimes. My cousin didn't get their thank you's sent out until nearly a year after their wedding, it took me a moment to figure out what they were thanking me for because it had been so long! lol
Anyway, moral of the story is, give it sometime. She may still be working on writing her thank you's. If you find out that other people have already received theirs, ask the bride's mother (who is your friend if I read your post correctly), it may have just gotten lost in the shuffle. I'm sure the bride would want to know that you did not receive your thank you card so that she could apologize & correct the oversight, I know if it were me, I would want to know if one of my guests did not receive theirs!
A possibility. You might want to try some of the SUM tapes on various specialties, you to sm
bone up/refresh on them. I have them, if you are interested.
you left out the possibility of information
being used for identity theft - Americans can understand this and might be a little more against the idea of their records being used for that. I have one doc who copies everything to his patient and so their home address is included along with everything else. Shudder!!!
We need to hope we can stop illegal entrance into the US - I'm looking at cutting lawns in my golden years instead of transcription!!
I beg your pardon. I have elderly relatives in nursing homes who are constantly in and out of
hospitals. The elderly especially need our reports to be ACCURATE, as nobody gives a hoot to "talk" about them, let alone doctors getting to actually know and remember patients. EVERYTHING about their acute care in hospitals is taken FROM THE PAPER MEDICAL RECORD, and also when they get bumped back to the nursing home. The caretakers take ALL info from the transfer sheet. Reality check for those who need help most - elderly who cannot rattle off their histories themselves.
Question re elderly patient being dropped by long-time PCP. sm
My SIL's mother was dropped as a patient by her long-time PCP (who also treats 4 other family members). The reason was that the elderly woman (upper 80s, status post back surgery and recent hip surgery) had missed too many appointments. Mind you my SIL always called when her mother could not make an appointment due to physically not being able to keep the appointment. An office person told my SIL on the QT the real reason was because the doc couldn't get as much reimbursement from insurance on elderly people. Mind you, this woman has her regular insurance plus Medicare. What is up with this. I never heard of such a thing. Anyone?
Its HOT, folks. Give water 2 pets and check on elderly!
Let me guess ... 10 guys standing around and 1 working!!

give Hill credit for STANDING BY HER MAN...nm
You don't have to agree with BOS standing! The sheer numbers
Go ahead, though. Be an ostrich. Hide your head in the sand. As long as YOU don't see it, it isn't there, right?!

Free-standing keyboard tray
I found a free-standing keyboard tray that might be handy for travel. There is a picture of it at this site. Here is the link:

A possibility would be ischemic bowel disease.
We had two different sizes. The problem is they tend to flatten out instead of standing upright. sm
So if you buy one that says it is 42" deep you really only get about 36-38" deep out of it. You are better off to buy a different kind of pool. We bought one that is a kit, but has a frame to it and is much, much better than the ones with the blow up ring. It is made by Intex and it is blue also, but made of a tough liner type material. It has a metal frame that you build (only took 45 min. to put it up)and it actuall stands up like a real above ground pool. Very nice and not much money..about 350.00 at Walmart for the whole kit, pool, filter, et cetera.
Depends on which fingers it is. Guyon's canal syndrome is another possibility.nm

I work for the person. I know. Very excellent person, personally and business-sense.
It is an INSULT to have QA hovering over seasoned MTs who know what they are doing. She trusts her MTs and again if there are questions there is one person, a trainer, who can answer them via phone, e-mail or instant message or you can send the whole report to them if you choose.
Hospital where I worked cut raises from 12% possibility to 6% with excellent review. Which means

Point was is the person willing to make up for the slack of the person who types 1 job when there is
if that is all they WANT to type. Is the person who wants to be a supervisor willing to make up for those people?
You have crap supervisors, editors and mts in the business like you have good ones. Sadly, the really good ones of all of them are few and far between.
Whining incessantly anonymously on a message board is far from "fighting back and standing up for
your rights". Sheesh. That's how silly you all are. Blah, blah, blah on here 24/7 and I guarantee you that's the extent of your yaw. Otherwise, you'd be sharing some pertinent communications you've had with the people who MATTER - like your supervisors, managers, etc. And I don't like change? Sweetie, I go with the flow and have changed with this career every step of the way - starting back typing on a manual typewriter with 8 colored carbon copies and matching colors of "liquid paper" and listening to tapes, and now using state-of-the-art platforms with voice recognition as well. I'm happy, and still love my job. Thank you for your unstated concern! You have a problem with your work flow, dictators, you call your superiors and have it taken care of. If they don't "change" it to your liking, that's your answer - the handwriting is on the wall, so to speak! You're getting what they want to give you regarding work! Pounding your chest in words on this message board under an assumed name is nothing short of ludicrous. and over and over and over and over and over again....ya, ya, ya, cherry pickers, Indians, cherry pickers, Indians....yawn yawn. Ya take up good board space and don't realize how totally FOOLISH you look... snore.... But its your "breath", and your precious energy wasted, so go for it!! Heavens you should direct your complaints to the proper channel!!!!
i have word 2000 free standing as well with no problems. email support, they will help you shortly.
you shouldn't struggle with having problems. support is there to help us and they are good at their job. as with any new acct, there are always gonna be some kinks. i had some to work out as well with my end of the system. it doesn't sound like something you can fix; probably something with how the two tie in together. did you log out and back in and see if that helped?
When you have a QA person that is picky and another QA person that is very lenient where does that
leave the MTs because some are getting a lenient reviewer and others are getting one that picks at everything. How do you reconcile that issue with the difference in QA mentality. Some people make out well and the other people could be just as good but dont. I wonder about that.
The person MTSO pays is the person who

A gross line is anything on a line is a line. A line set at 65 characters means it sm
has 1-inch margins on each side. The maximum number of characters on that line would be 65 and that includes spaces. If there is 1 character on that line it is a line.
A standard 65-character line usually consists of 65 characters with spaces unless, of course, the employer does not pay for spaces and then it would be 65-characters without spaces.
