money. With some online schools pushing their credibility to newbies, enough have fallen for "it" that they still rake in plenty. The original idea was, no doubt, a good one. Somewhere along the way, the working MT was forgotten. AAMT in no way represents the best interests of the working MT. The idea they are pushing now of making CMT credentialing mandatory is a joke and certainly not in the best interest of hundreds of thousands of working American MTs.
Hey, I'll send anyone a test (for a mere $50 fee), and I will *allow* them to use the prestigious ND after their name if they pass.

look at your work. It gets sent directly to the client and we do an occasional audit. If you don't want to deal with editors then listen to what they say and pull your damn score up and you won't have to worry about it all. The comments left are feedback. Why the hell should we just "give you the answer" we need to explain it to you so you do not make the same mistake. Sounds to me like you editor is probably pulling her hair out with you. If you can't cut it, get out of the business!

No, really, if everyone needs certification, than the union will be working with AAMT and that is not good for all MTs.
Although I am not against all unions, I am not for a MT union. They do exist. If you want to join one, look them up. Some are probably taking new members. Get out your wallets.....

What a joke!! I saw an ad for an MT for $10 an hour. Worse than when I started 35 years ago. Thanks for nothing AAMT! Have fun at your convention...don't let all of us disillusioned MTs who thought you were actually going to help promote our profession and give us some credibility and professionalism spoil your good time. After all, that's about all you do these days is plan one convention to the next. This organization is a joke and all MTs know it. The only reason most belong is to be credentialed...until they realize they don't have to send you anymore hard earned money. Bitter? Yes I am...you have sold us out! Shame on you.

Some states, I think 3 of them, allow sole proprietorship (perhaps more than 3 states)....where one is the employer and the employee. I know for a fact that Florida is one of these states. Been doing this for 10 years from home with private docs. I did have to get an occupational license from my city and from my county this year per my city demanding that. So, I complied. Now I'm more legal than ever.
I'm still curious as to what state you are from where you are getting this information that you posted. Thanks in advance for your response.

That was my purpose in posting this, the fact that he is bringing attention to it. I think it is great that he cares about our medical records and I hope he can bring some attention to the importance of how and where and by whom they are done, making the public aware.

The Purpose Driven Life...
I have felt very overwhelmed too over the past several months, and my DH gave me a book for Christmas that is the most wonderful gift he's ever given me...."The Purpose Driven Life" by Rick Warren. It is written to be read at the rate of one chapter a day, so it is very managable in our busy schedules.
Anyway, this book has made a huge impact on my outlook on life already, and I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND it to anyone who is questioning their purpose in life. It is a wonderful book, and if you can't afford to purchase it, you probably get it from the library.
Find something fulfilling to do - something with a purpose (sm)
What if you got a job helping those less fortunate than you? Many people were born with mental and physical disabilities and you could use your abilities to help them. Apply for a job at a home for the mentally retarded or for the elderly - do something that makes you feel good in your heart - where you know at the end of the day that you made a difference in someone else's life. That will make you feel wonderful!
If not something like that, and you just need some variety, work for a temp agency so that you can keep learning one job after another and moving on.
Right now you are living in oppressed conditions. Anyone would get depressed being alone in the dark day after day. I do believe in depression - anyone who does not is jut unaware. Get yourself out of that apartment! Go for a walk. Make a point to smile at at least 5 people who look unhappy - force yourself to smile. Read up on the internet about how lack of UV rays causes seasonal affective disorder - read about how forcing yourself to do things like smile, cause endorphins to be released in your body and make you feel better. Use your brilliant mind to figure your way out of the maze you are in - you will have to look to new ways of thinking,and new ways of living.

that message can open a trojan on your PC that will access your ebay information. Happened to me once and some yo-yo hijacked my EBay account and ran up $3000.00 worth of charges in about 2 hours. My account got suspended for suspicious activity and I was notified by EBay of the problem. Lucky for me, they found out who did it and cancelled all the charges. I had to go to the EBay chat with customer service and repair the damage. Took about an hour. Now I change my password everytime I get a message that's fake and send everything to spoof@ebay. It really does help. So, if you do get a note about suspicious activity, then go to Ebay and see if you can log in. If not, then the email is from them.

I've never seen frequent notes that state, as a condition associated with gallbladder disease, that "patient is unable to lose weight." In fact, being fat is one of the 5 F's associated with gallbladder disease - Fat, Female, Fair, Forty and Fertile.

Marla in So. California pays 11 cpl for a 55 ccl, Oracle pays 9-1/2 cpl, MDI-MD 11 cpl, JLG 10 cpl for gross line, etc.
Of course, these are rates negotiated and paid to qualified MTs.
When I see mistakes I repeatedly make, I make a quickcorrect for it (sm)
for example if I type we plant o instead of "plan to" I have a quick corrct so that if I type plant o, it replaces it with plan to, etc. It is hard - I was with the same company for 8 years. I do not work for anyone with an accuracy requirement though.
When you make the copay, make them give you a sm
receipt for the amount you pay them. I know they don't like to do this because it takes time, but if you are really stern and insist on a receipt they have to give you one. Then, the next time you get billed for something you already paid, tell them to look for their copy of the receipt and let THEM do the work.
Yes, unfortunately you do have to make a pest of yourself to make it work, but.....
as the years went by that is why I stayed away from those type of companies. BTW, Noni is a fabulous product, I absolutely do not care for the "marketing techniques" they use. One of the facts of this type of industry is you cannot just recruit to make it, you have to retail. Do they realize that MDs actually take the time to edit stuff they don't recognize to be correct? What good is it if it actually causes MDs to stop and edit??

It's just too bad that AAMT has not taken an assertive stand for the American MT and keeping confidential patient records in this country. For such a long time medical record administrators have fought the concerns of medical transcriptionists since the 60's. There was always a divisive agenda from medical record librarians (as they were called then) toward the transcriptionist. They didn't want to see the Transcriptionist come to the forefront of the medical records industry, nor did they like the income transcriptionists made(then) -WHAT? a transcriptionist make more money than a medical records librarian? I still see it now - you see AHIMA's hand down the back zipper of AAMT puppeting what direction they want AAMT to go - minimize the importance of the professional medical transcriptionist and rushing to automate the medical record with ASR and EMR. Ask youself this question - how many of you believe that many of the "QA" people at the nationals are discarded or displaced medical record technicians or the like? Many of the medical record administrators lost their jobs about 10 years ago during hefty layoffs when hospitals began a surge of outsourcing and many of these people had to seek jobs in the transcription industry for national companies as sales people, administrators, and QA people. I can't begin to tell you how many RHIT people haven't a clue about medical transcription. I've worked with so many who got a lot of things wrong legally but hey, because they were above the transcription department, they were right. Don't question them.

They're too busy deciding who is white enough and straight enough to belong to give attention to relevant issues. I abandoned them in the 90s when I saw first-hand what their agenda was. It isn't to help the average Joe or Jane Transcriptionist, believe me.

I will conveniently stay anonymous, but I completely agree with you. I cannot afford the membership dues. My former employer is sponsoring a discounted membership with AAMT for MTs who want to join. I think this board is invaluable and agree it probably does have a lot better information. I know of other MTs who used to be AAMT members who could no longer afford the membership and dropped it. Besides, I think you can visit their website and obtain info that way. I bet the book you purchased is a good resource as well.

AAMT does not only support offshoring, I believe they are responsible for it. Apparently, you don't know that they offer their CMT test and credentials to MTs in India? Nothing very "American" about that.
Also, you will find that most AAMT officers are from MTSOs that offshore work. If you dig deeper, you will find that these MTSOs were pioneers in offshoring work. I belonged years ago, but then I decided they were just a bunch of egomaniacs out for their own glorification.
I can't see that they have done anything positive for the MT business. I think it's gone downhill since AAMT came into the picture.

Yes, the AAMT website has a great instruction guide for setting up and maintaining a QA department. It is the QA Primer 2004. I used it to establish a QA department for one of the medium transcription companies and they love it.
