Not sure why the Alt+V and other suggestions didn't work but maybe it's because I needed to download the service packs after un/reinstalling Word. I also somehow managed to make RTF format the default in Word, but don't know how. In any case, I just thank you all so much for the help. It was such a frustrating thing to deal with and sucked the whole day away. I'm so happy that I can look forward to a productive day today, thanks to everyone here.
I'm always looking to add to our network of ICs, and especially seek out generous, cooperative transcriptionists like you folks here . We have a private board that runs on that kind of spirit and as a result we really have an awesome team. If any of you needs another company to work with, please be sure to email me (and be sure to mention this thread).

Menu
For crunchy snacks - pork rinds.
I ate a lot of eggs (whites), omelets, tuna, chicken, meats in general, hot dogs, cheese and fresh veggies of most sorts and salads.
Sandwiches were made inside of leaves of lettuce and rolled instead of bread, and after induction, low-carb tortillas, and I never missed the bread either.
After induction, you can munch on things like walnuts, pecans, and macademia nuts and all berries.for snacks.
Oh, while on induction, I ate a TON of sugar-free jello with home-made whipped cream whipped with Splenda. That really satisfied my sweet tooth.
I had to go on the Atkins because my cholesterol was high and because I had arthritis, my doc didn't want me to go on Statin drugs as that makes muscle aches/pains a thousand times worse
After the diet, I lost a lot of weight and sure enough, my cholesterol leveled out beautifully. I also felt a thousand times better on this diet and had more energy.
I'm getting ready to go on it again....
Good luck on your diet.
See the top menu..
of Your Internet Explorer.
Help > About Internet Explorer
The left Menu....
The left Menu is actually a javascript for fast loading of pages. Your browser's scripting is disabled.
Go to "Tools -> Internet Options..." from the main menu of Internet Explorer.
Change to the "Security" tab
Select "Custom Level".
Make sure "Enable" is selected under "Active scripting"
Restart the browser.
If above doesn't work, run some Spyware or Anti-virus, because most of the viruses and Trojans stops the javascript in first place.
Our menu's very similar to yours
Were having Taco Bell tacos, cheetos, and Star Bucks Carmel Machalatas (I think I spelled that right, but it's those ice cold carmel coffee drinks they make. They go great with Tacos.
My menu says #2 is pause...
I have only been using a C-phone for a week and haven't even tried all the menu options, including this one! But that's what my menu says. If you need more info you can e-mail me. Good luck!
Start menu
Go to control panel, click on "Task Bar & Start Menu", check the box that says show the clock and apply.
Add cheeseburgers and wine to the menu! nm

I go to alt-E and bring up the expansion menu sm
then I add a new header in there. That way, the new header created will be saved and usable in future reports. Maybe there is a better way - I do not claim to be a DQS genius, but this does work for me
Moving menu bars
You may have just moved it - try moving your other toolbars around, see if it comes back. I've done the same thing in the past!
Where in the Help menu did you find the ctrl k tip?
xx
What's on the menu for din-din tonight? I'm making...
Chicken and sage dumplings and tossed salad with Roqufurt (sp?) dressing...
Next?
Well, my husband and I rule the menu here.
We're sure not going to let the kids do it, otherwise it would be pizza, tacos, and hot dogs daily and everyone would keel over from clogged arteries at the age of 30! Beside, like Kikki said, it's not good to let the kids call the shots. That's why the good Lord made parents!
No one said the kids should rule the menu
But if you love your kids then you understand that they are people too, with their own tastebuds. Just because they might have a suggestion doesn't automatically make it JUNK. Just different.
Trust me, my kids know who the boss is. Geez!!!!!
On the menu...pork roast w/
mashed potatoes and mixed veggies. The pork roast is in the crock pot slow roasting all day while I work my fingers to the bone!! It will be served with homemade mashers with brown gravey and mixed veggies.uuuummmmm!! Can't wait til dinner. ;)

Ordering avorites menu on www
Hi,
Over the past few days some weirdness has been happening with my "Favorites" listing: Everything was ordered precisely the way I wanted it, but I look up one day to find that they have been put into alpha order. At one point they went back to how I had them arranged; the next, they're in alpha order again.
Have no clue what I touched/hit, the Microsoft help website is of absolutely no help, and I'm going crazy trying to find things in the spot where they used to be. Don't want to re-train my eyes, my memory, or my fingers to searching for things in alpha order. It's really not useful or convenient.
Any ideas? (short of manually moving everything back into place? Thanks.

Have you tried the Help menu in the Olympus player? sm
Depending on the software that came with your player, you may be able to do this but I don't know for sure. Again, .dss is proprietary to Olympus.
The suggestions below to download Express Scribe are probably your best bet. It never occurred to me to check ES to see if the .dvf file extension was supported--DUH! Is there any particular reason why you can't use the Express Scribe player? If there is a particular person or office that is telling you to do this, ask them what program they're using. And, BTW, I did notice on that the Switch site says not all .dvf file types are supported.
Lost left menu--HELP!
Don't know what I did but I lost my menu on the left here at MT Stars and can't seem to get it back, even with refreshing the page or logging out and then back in. Anyone know how to get that left-sided menu back?
Open your start menu--sm
look through the listing of the programs and if there is something there under the name of "creative" you have a soundblaster sound card. A lot of the newer computers now are coming with a "built in" or "on board" audio program and a sound card is not necessarily needed. If that is what you are using, then I do not believe it would be compatible with SoundBlaster.
It's on the tools/options menu
Untick the show startup task pane option on the view tab.
For OTHER pages, scroll the other way or go to the View menu. SM
Look for Text Size. It won't fix the huge text on this page, though.
Menu bar in Word disappeared!! Is there a toggle on
There must be a keyboard combination that I inadvertantly hit to make my Menu Bar (File/View/Tools, etc.) go away. Does anyone know what I need to do to toggle it back on? I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling Word and several other fix-its, but have realized it's probably something as dumb as this. Please help!
TIA!!!
Take turns w/ menu (and cooking and cleaning..)
I grew up in a house w/ a six-pack of kids and if you didn't like what was for dinner, too #$$# bad, will give it to your brother lol.
I use the Compare feature on the tools menu.

...on installation? Run the upgrade on it from your Start menu. nm

Where would this feature be located on the drop-down menu on top?
Thanks.
Hit the start button and look on the left side of the menu. NM

Right mouse click and select Unzip from popup menu.
Program may ask where you want to unzip the file; choose or create a folder in an easy-to-find location (desktop).
#2 in main menu - edit and then options of editing, viewing appear.
However, if it has been finalized, you will not be able to view it but only add addendum. Only if report is in draft is it able to be viewed.
You can also access system restore thru Help and Support in Start menu. nm.

OK! I'm glad you're back down here. Now don't go back up there and read those evil posts ag
Okay? But I have to leave you now, sadly. Thousands of noble dictating doctors are anxiously awaiting my help with their "dictations"....They're all loading up on chips, drinking lots of soda so they can burp, and then have to go to the bathroom...You know the routine! Off I go to earn some pennies!! But, truly, I am thankful that I have a job!
PS.. It apparently worked..I heard back and already submitted the paperwork back.
I'm not sure how many people they are hiring but you shouldn't stress too hard over it. Do the best you can.
I would not do them back to back - I have done 2 and 3 jobs at the same time -- all PT - sm
It is possible to do of course but you will burn out fast. Now I do one almost FT (about 30 hours a week) and the other is about 8-10 hours a week-- I still get beat doing that and that is w/o set hours. I find that the older I get the harder it is to work late and I am only 40! But a mid afternoon 30-minute cat nap helps a lot in order to keep going on busy days.
How do you set your computer back 1 day. I messed something up and need to go back 1 day.
NM
Yes, you get back to work now. Go back to
some routine, and it does start to hurt less. I know And remember, she is still there at work with you. Always will be. I figure at this point I have a whole herd of loved dogs under my desk each day - along with a couple horses, hamsters, parakeets, rabbits...If only I could see them - must be quite a happy zoo! But I know they are all there I sense their love.
Can't anyway. Just get them back. sm
I actually tried to dump a report today, which I never do, because it somehow got into my pool in error (not my area of expertise), but it jumped right back up at me after the next report. So I decided to just do it. I don't know how well I did, but I did it. It was over 150 lines long and took me forever. Lo and behold, 5 reports later, same guy, same type of report 145 lines. Second time around was easier and faster though. The way I see it is that if I get negative feedback, I'll let them know that those kind of reports really shouldn't come my way.
But cherry picking for line count is just plain wrong.
I did, but then I came back to it.
The other jobs I took involved quite a bit of computer use, too. I got tired of the office politics and other garbage, so I'm doing MT again. Now, I prop my keyboard up with a block of wood, although you can use a telescoping keyboard drawer/shelf to do the same thing. I have a habit of letting my wrists rest on the keyboard, so I had to modify it to get my hands into the proper position. It might have helped if I had taken piano lessons. LOL The only time my wrists ache now is if I work too much, which has been the case lately. I don't know if it would be helpful for you to try. I've been doing data entry or some form of computer input work for 17 years now, so I'm hoping carpal tunnel or repetitive motion injury isn't definitely in my future.
Going WAY back here
It's been a long time and I'm not "up" on the lingo, but by reformatting, do you mean you re-indexed?
I would go into whatever function that is where you can re-index all files or functions and do that.
If you still have problems, it might be that a file has been corrupted somewhere. That happened to me on that program a couple times. I'm not sure if it was the dictionary, but something somewhere stopped working right and I had to reload the entire program.
Be SURE to back up your autokeys immediately just in case you have to reinstall the program.
Can I get back to you about this later?
WAY BACK WHEN
It used to be that we were treated as valued employees, treated with dignity, and actually felt like the higher-ups gave a damn about us. Length of service meant something and those who were dependable never had to worry about running out of work. I knew I would be taken care of. Never did we get cheap plastic crap as a Christmas present - we got real, thoughtful presents to show their appreciation for the hard work that they knew we did. It's pretty much like night and day - nobody gives a damn anymore about us. It used to be the only thing I knew I could depend on to be stable in my life was my job. Not anymore.
Yes, they could pay us better back then
because they weren't paying 2 people for one job (speaking of QA here). If you weren't a good, accurate transcriptionist, you didn't have a job.
Way back
I never heard the word at the time. It was fabulous! No turnaround time. I could shop all day and work all night. The service I worked for told me she wished she had 10 of me! Nice? Christmas parties and $100 bonuses! Flowers when a relative died. It was fun!
I think I might even go back further...
I recall using white-out and yellow-out for carbon copies (the REAL carbon copies) which had to be corrected separately. OH my... but I'm afraid I don't miss all that at all! LOL. I think it was okay to use the white-out until a couple years later, or maybe 10? Yeah, I'm old.
And 8 or 9 books? Did they even make that many back then? I can recall having a PDR and a word book that was separated into specialities. Oh, and the surgical word book. It was red. I am visualizing it now.
My form of research was more like finding the chart and going from there. Ah, but that was before production. Remember those days?
I wish I could remember the name of the first word processor I used. It was a mess!! More trouble than it was worth, but on the cutting edge of technology... and I was there!!
And here I am now, an MT dinosaur, getting ready to start using ASR...
Yeah, DixieDew, we have come a long way.
But miss it? Do you remember the noise those Selectrics made? And I complain sometimes because I can't stand the clicking of the keyboard when I have barely audible dictations.
One more thing... and please tell me if you miss this... "Standard" reports that you had to copy type instead of just having them appear on your screen with a few keystrokes. I used to HATE standard reports to the point of tears!
Okay, my ranting and reminiscing is done for now.
Thanks for the walk down memory lane. :)
Come back
That Alice was bad, bad, bad. Are you and "her" coming back tonight though?
I will back you up too
I was told the same about two years ago by recruiter in Midwest. She did not give specifics, but basically said that the full time employees would get priority if the work was low.
