It doesn't turn off, but sometimes I just don't care
When I'm not working, I still see the mistakes, but sometimes (not very often) I just don't go back and fix them. Typos do, however, still bother me.
Hate to disappoint you but the government doesn't care about you.

Where do people get the idea that our government wants to know what is on your computer or who you talk to on the phone.  That is soooo stupid.  READ, study, investigate it for yourself...not someone elses interpretation.( Patriot Act).  It is NOT used for tracking US individuals willy nilly.  It is specifically geared toward foreign suspects involving only very specific US contacts/colleagues/persons of interest.

It was started under Clinton and Bush has taken it one step further by daily reports to the cabinet!!!!  Nothing more nothing less.  Take a trip through our recent history and find the truth yourself instead of becoming part of the media system in spreading untruths and hysterics.  It is not new ....only more open.

okay, york hospital said they had delivery records, but no prenatal records. sm
they had no idea who she practiced with or anything like that and of course SIL doesn't know any name other than Freundel. i am also a midwife besides being an MT and in order for me to take her given her bicornuate uterus, i have to have her records. i guess delivery records is better than nothing, LOL, but i have to have her prenatal records. i wonder if there is a clinic there or something that med students rotate through. i couldn't even find ms. freundel on AMA, but she may not be through with her training yet either and that is probably why.
patient records and prisoner records
Does anybody know if our USA prison system is keeping prisoner records in the good old USA, or are those records offshore outsourced too? I am just curious because it seems to me that law enforcement in general does not offshore records, and I was wondering about prisoner records? If anybody knows, please post. Thanks in advance.
secure
Hi. Don't get freaked out. This happens all the time. As long as you are online, someone somewhere is going to try to invade you. As long as you have a firewall, you are safe. Don't worry. It was just a notification by Norton that they are doing their job. Rest easy.
Secure FTP...(sm)
To enable secure FTP, there must be a secure FTP server somewhere, as well as a secure FTP client on your local system (and on the system of anyone else who is uploading or downloading files to or from the server).

You could, technically speaking, run your own secure FTP server but most likely you'll want to use a secure FTP hosting provider. Google the phrase "secure FTP hosting", including the quotes, and browse the results to check out pricing.

For the secure FTP client, there are a number of choices ranging from free to $$. Before choosing one, though, I would get the hosting issue above settled and ask whether they recommend any particular client. If not, you can Google "secure FTP client" and browse the results, looking for two things:

1. An easy to use graphical interface that will let you "drag and drop" files to effect transfers to/from the server.

2. The price range you want. This, to me, would be secondary to item #1 above though.

A secure FTP would be the best way - sm
I would love to know how to get one myself/set one up too. I know how to use a FTP program to upload/download to my jobs to a FTP site, but have no clue how to go about setting one up for myself so I can have my one account send me their voice files that way. So I use mydocsonline.com for that purpose right now which is not expensive--$99 a year, price goes up with the number of users though. Very easy to use too. But I am sure if I could get my own secure FTP site it would be cheaper (I hope) though some appear to be a bit pricy from what I recall when I have looked into this before.
I don't believe this is a secure server.

Having said that, if you encrypt any files BEFORE uploading to their server, you should be OK. There is a webpage where you can ask specific questions--the link is below.

Your information is probably more secure than ever before.

A cell phone is not secure, so using it to

listen to dictation is not viable.  I have downloaded digital files via cell phone in a pinch, like during storms when I lose land-line.  If you got dictation via cell, you would have to re-record because there is no way to start/stop the dictation to transcribe live.  The quality of the dictation would not be as good as a land line or digital or whatever.   When you have unlimited service, it usually doesn't include unlimited data transfer so would not be feasible for downloading consistently.

Just not a good idea any way you look at it, especially if this is your primary source of obtaining work.

But I didn't think wireless was secure?
Just a long cable to my modem strung through the kitchen window.  LOL  Hubby wants to put a phone jack outside for me, but this is fine.
f-secure is also free and good....nm
x
I have a secure wireless router and
broadband service.  I use wav files so I'm not connected to a phone line.   being wireless, you're going to still be restricted to the signal strength anywhere you go kind of like using a cell phone but if you have a broadband connection on that mountain top with a wireless router connected to it, then your signal is coming from the router and not a tower that will have interference from trees, mountains etc.
Good secure FTP site.... sm
I just got overflow work from a local hospital and I am trying to get started as soon as possible.  I have done searches on this site, but wanted to know if anybody could recommended a secure, HIPAA-compliant FTP site that won't charge much as this is my first account and I have almost no start-up cash.  Any information would be helpful to me.  TIA.
Satellite isn't secure I think is the main

reason companies don't allow it and another is because the download speed is not consistent.  It can be as slow as dial-up at times.  There are also a lot of factors that can knock out your service, at least temporarily.   I had satellite for a year and overall it was okay, but if it snowed or rain hard I either had decreased signal or no signal, if the wind blew hard I might get tree limbs in the way of the signal or the signal was so sporadic that I couldn't download.

You can secure wireless networks,
Making it necessary to put in a password to access it. That'll take care of the moochers!
Are you talking about a Secure Certificate?
I'm not sure if that is the same thing as an e-signature? Perhaps you mean encryption. I'm not sure why you would need to supply a secure certificate to send files to a client; encryption 128-bit encryption should be find; 256-bit even better.
Secure documentation transfer

Hi, I'm a medical transcriptionist/medical information technologist of a small MTSO called ScriptExcellence. I use "ScriptWave" for my workflow management/secure data transmission between the clients and myself and my subcontracted transcriptionists. The program was designed by my program developer brother, and my service has used it for two years with great success and low cost. If you'd like more information, check out the site at www.scriptwave.net. Best wishes to you!

VPN or secure file transfer
Are all VPN's secure? If not, which ones are? I need to purchase one soon.
Secure file transfer......(sm)
I've heard of several people using FilePhile for secure file transfers, although I have no personal experience with it. It's supposed to be free, easy, and HIPAA compliant.

http://www.filephile.net/index.php
Satellite is not secure so there may be concern for HIPAA
violation.  Also satellite downloads are not dependable, sometimes they can be just as slow as dial-up, depends on the weather and how many others are on the server.
Need names of good, secure, FTP sites - sm

that are easy to use and access.  Have a doctor's office that will be sending me digital voice files in the next couple of weeks and need to switch them over easily to a new "system".  I prefer FTP though since I only have dial-up and I am used to using it with another job. Any preferences out there? Thanks.

Use a secure method of transferring files.

Encrypted email for delivery of completed documents works, but voice files may be too large for that method. A secure FTP site, either your own or through a commerical provider such as mydoconline.com or ftptogo.com, would work for both documents and voice files. You may need an FTP program, but there are lots of free ones out there, like filezilla.com, which is what I use.

secure documentation transfer without an MTSO

Hi, I'm a medical transcriptionist/medical information technologist of a small MTSO called ScriptExcellence. I use "ScriptWave" for my workflow management/secure data transmission between the clients and myself and my subcontracted transcriptionists. The program was designed by my program developer brother, and my service has used it for two years with great success and low cost. It would be an easy way for you to securely transfer audio files/transcribed reports without using an MTSO. If you'd like more information, check out the site at www.scriptwave.net. Best wishes to you!

Need to set up FTP - Secure site recommendations / cost ??
I need to use a secure FTP to transfer medical files.  Is anyone using a particular FTP that they like.  What is cost associated with this.  Any info appreciated.  Thanks.
Not a problem if working on secure server
My company uploads/downloads work from a secure server, not an open Internet connection (as in web browser). Work does not travel over Internet, but directly from me to server to client and vice versa. Records are not kept on my computer, but the server. If that is the case with your setup, I'd think it would not matter if you are typing in New York or Timbuktu.
Yes, Yes! Sue the OWNER of the plastic pool because they did not secure it properly. Now it was a
deadly object due to THEIR negligence! Just think of the $$$.
Trusting the other side was his biggest mistake. He should have kept himself secure.

I use Filezilla FTP software to send via secure FTP site.

There are lots of free FTP programs available.

Kinship care versus foster care/adoption
Having been placed in a position where I now have custody of my 3 YO granddaughter and going through the legal system, I sought an online network of relative caregivers for children. I would encourage you, especially since you are in Georgia, that if you take any children into foster care with the idea of adopting them, there is federal law that requires the state to take certain actions in a specific time frame. When a child is removed from it's bio parent(s), the state is required to investigate any possible relatives who can take the child before foster care is considered, but even before that, reunification with the parents is the priority. Once a child enters the system and is in the system for 15 out of any 22 months, the state is required to find permanent placement for the child.

The problem with this is that there are case workers who may favor a foster family and do not seek out relative care. I have a good friend in Georgia who had to fight all the way to the state level to get custody of her grandson after the child was placed from the hospital into a foster care home with the promise that the foster parents would be allowed to adopt. She has now adopted her grandson, but it was a long, hard battle to get the state to admit their own interests were placed above those of the child and/or family.

If you get a child placed through the state, please make certain there is not a relative who wants that child before you get your hopes up. The courts are now favoring return of children to relatives even after a child has spent years with a foster family who hoped to adopt them.

States get bonus federal funds by complying with the time lines and being able to close the case, so some states place children in foster care because it is easier than trying to locate relatives.

Didn't mean to go off on a tangent, but I can't imagine my sweet bella going to someone outside her family.
Why are YOU attacking HER? Just because she doesn't want kids, doesn't mean she needs a psychi

If it was a clinic, it might have been urgent care, but it was NOT acute care. sm
Acute care refers to work in an acute care setting, a hospital, doing at least History and Physicals, Discharge Summaries, Consultations, Surgery notes, Emergency Department notes, and much more, including GI procedures, Cardiology procedures, Neurological procedures, Pulmonary Function Studies.  It goes on and on and it means and acute care hospital setting, not a clinic.
I always figure if they don't care about their dictation, they probably don't care about their

Yes, you can get the records. sm
First of all, let me say congratulations on getting out of a bad situation. I've been there and done that, and I know that it's not easy. Everyone seems to think that it's just an automatic response to leave, and no one seems to understand why a spouse would stay after something like that, but unless they've been there themselves, they just don't understand how hard it is. So {{big hugs}} to you and stay strong.

Now, as far as the records... yes, they are public and you can request them. You need to know the names of the towns/cities where he's lived and where he may have been charged before, and then simply call the court clerk there to request any and all documents.

As far as him having scratched himself to try to show you were the aggressor, I wouldn't even worry about it. That's a common tactic that abusers use to try to shift the blame. It won't work. He's not as slick as he thinks he is.... anyone who's dealt with abusers before knows that this is a pretty common trick that they use.

Please, stay strong and keep yourself safe. I've been there, and I know it's not easy. You were with this person because you loved them, and that doesn't just magically disappear once they hit you. It would be much easier if it did. Try to prepare yourself for the inevitable crying, apologizing, swearing he'll get help, etc. It can all be very believable and convincing, but trust yourself and your instincts, and if you need to talk, I'm here.
Can top that... in my mom's records
the pt is a 52 yo woman of "advanced age"... it put about 10 years on her when she read it... I don't think she would have been near as upset with the doctor if he had performed the wrong surgery as she was about that one....LOL
Even if ALL records are on EMR, there will
still be a need for MTs. For facilities not on VR the reports still have to be typed and the ones doing VR need editors. An EMR does not mean there is no need for MTs, just means that the records will be computerized for easier access.
I have also gotten my records for sm
hospitalizations for a chronic illness (all 64 admissions) and the records are a mess. But its not with BOS errors, it is with gross medical errors!!!!!

I think the so-called standardization should be that these places hire MTs that know what the heck they are doing. The hospitals and clients can figure out their own account specifics. I have hired plenty of MTs in my career and no way would I turn a good MT away who knows their "medical stuff" but doesn't know the specifics of the BOS! Thats like cutting off your nose to spite your face which is what htese companies are doing. I think they are more worried about the BOS because the people doing the hiring now dont' even know how to do MT themselves. I guess the only thing they can relate to and know anything about is that doggone BOS!
Doctor's records
When a physician retires or otherwise closes his practice, he must offer his patients the opportunity to pick up a copy of their records, which he may or may not charge for photocopying.  The original records must be kept by the physician for a period of 7 years after the practice closes.
Digital Records - SM
Most come with software and a docking station and software.  He would need to dock the recorder and transfer the files to you, either via e-mail or send them to a secure FTP site. If you order it through Transcription Gear, it comes with really cool software, including a player for you.
It's not so much as my records personally....
it's the idea of a large group of United States records being sent because if they can find a way to use it against our country, they will.
What do you mean, prisoner records? (sm)
Most medical records are handwritten. All records having to do with crime, time served, etc., are computerized. Many states have web sites that allow you to access the records and see if people are still in or released. What would there be to offshore?

Records for working as an IC?

I have been fortunate enough to work at only one place now for 7 years and be happy, BUT things have not been the greatest lately.  I am considering taking a position with another company part time, but it would be an IC position.

My question is, are there any special records I have to keep for tax purposes and so forth working as an IC?  I know I am responsible for my own taxes, right?

Any advice or info is appreciated.  I have never worked as an IC before, so I feel a little green on this topic.

and this is how our records are transcribed =(
x
Illegal records
I worked for a hospital years ago and sometimes the dictation did not come through our system correctly even though the doc knew he dictated it. We had several docs who absolutely REFUSED to re-dictate, stating they dictated once and that was it. Several times, I personally had charts out of the hospital (which would scare me now to do this) at my boss' request and made up or gleaned from the chart the discharge summary. This was an orthopedic doc that I also worked for, by the way, so I practically knew what he was going to say before he said it. Several of us did quite a few charts like this as some of the docs WOULD NOT, absolutely WOULD NOT re-dictate and we needed the discharge summary and/or op report in the report. Scary or not, we did it. Don't know as I would do it now, though.
School records
My husband works at a school, and I can verify that school records are legally confidential, just like medical records. Only authorized personnel have access. I do not ever remember giving family history information, but schools now are required to have a nurse on staff who handles any medications the child is on, etc. I do know schools are required to provide physical therapy and speech therapy if a student needs it, as my child has cerebral palsy and had to have PT. The school was required to either provide it there or provide transportation to a facility where she could receive it. I thought this was a bit ridiculous because I thought that was my responsibility, but I guess the state feels like some chldren would not receive the help they need otherwise.
Old patient records

Does anyone know when you no longer have an account what do you do with the old records.  Can they be deleted because they are no longer your account or do you have to save them in case the account ever needs them?  All their notes over the years have either been printed and delivered or emailed to them and I don't keep them past a year.

Old patient records
When I closed up my accounts, I always gave the reports I saved on CDs back to the clinics. After all, I didn't need them any longer.
