but it's doalbe on a part-time basis, maybe FT if you are quick and able to do your job in 6 hours. I started doing MT 3 years ago when my kids were 3 and 4....very hard but I did it, worked while they napped, and at night basically. It can be done but you don't sleep much! Good luck.

Yes, you can! Babies sleep over 16 hours a day on average!
It can be done and has been done - by me!
babies are easier than teens and older children. they sleep and you can hold them and type. nm

I had 2 babies in less than a year and kept them at home with....
no outside help. BUT.... Do not think for a minute that you can sit down and put in an 8 hour day with an infant in the house. You will have to dramatically alter your working style if that's what you are used to. I made sure I worked for a company where I made my own hours, which basically amounted to "catch as catch can", but you know what? I still managed to make 25,000 a year working VERY part-time. I typed a few reports, got up, fed the kids, typed a few more while they played, got up and played with them, ran errands, put them down for a nap, typed while they slept.... blah blah blah.. My work revolved around the kids and their needs, but it worked. It has to be that way with a baby (in my case 2 of them). I don't believe in daycare for infants and small children. Had we not been able to afford to live of what I could make with them at home, we probably would not have had them. I feel that strong about it for my family (not judging others mind you). They're 11 and 12 now and very secure loving connected kids. I hope my early sacrifices had something to do with it.
Amen on babies having babies
I know that several teens seem to be having babies anymore, in a time when there is sooooooooooo much offered them in the way of education and birth control. At our local highschool, they even have an elective course of life studies//these girls take care of a life like baby that yes, cries, wets, wines at all times. They even have to take it home for the duration of the course, the same as if it were their child, 24/7.
I think that some of the mentality is that be getting pregnant, they can "escape home life" by illogically thinking the boy will take care of them and the baby and we all know how many times that really happens
If I work when the kids sleep, when will I sleep?
I understand what you are saying about the kids will always bug me no matter what. I just thought that if I had a job where I didn't have to hear dictation and type word for word that maybe it might be easier to block out the kids. There are no babysitters to watch the kids around here, besides that is why I work at in home in the first place. The kids are 2 and 5 so hopefully it will get easier.
Thanks
I took it in 2000 and it was a breeze for me then.
But I didn't maintain it. Has it changed much, does anyone know? I keep hearing it's not easy and am just wondering if it's now more difficult than it used to be. I am trying to decide whether or not to do it again.
The Ocean Breeze is really nice.
And Spring Rain and Serenity. I did not like the Gingerbread, thought it would be more cinnamon-y-sweet but it was more ginger. And be warned, they are VERY strong, a little dab'll do ya. LOL
working at home a breeze
So working at home is a breeze for you. That is wonderful. From your posting, you don't mention kids. Many of us have children. I have a 10 yo son and manage to get stuff done around the house. I also get in my hours and my line quota. Some people don't have a problem with working at home and keeping out the public. Some people do...so don't get down on them because they are saying something about it. Maybe they are looking for a more diplomatic way rather than say...Get out and go away. Different viewpoints are what make the world go round. And yes...as the other poster said..no one takes advantage of you unless you let them. But everyone is different. Our difference is what makes us all unique both at home and in the office. Just don't sound so cavalier about other people and their feelings and problems.
I find working at home a breeze
I can write off all things (including part of home space, part of electrical bill, all of phone and cable service and other things on the income tax, so there is where there is a break. I keep my electric bill down by using a small heater in the winter at my feet and have an overhead fan for the summer- should it get up to the 80s, then I might turn on the air for a while but my home so large I do not care to pay $$$ to air-conditing the entire home and just me here most of the time (hubs drives long distance). I sleep as late as I like (my work starts at noon), shower, dress and walk to the next room. What do you have to do at home that you find it so hard?? I work straight through, be it in the office or at home, not taking breaks and/or lunch so makes no difference either way for me.
Didn't make me cry but wasn't a breeze.
I studied when I could. After 30 years I think you'll pass. Please let us know how you do and good luck!
Would you walk three blocks in 110 degrees at 3 p.m. in Arizona - no trees, no breeze, no wet SM
except for sweat. It's brutal.
Now is 110 and supposed to get hotter. Yesterday was 113 in the shade
I bought one of those $60 bagless Dirt Devil Breeze vacuums at
K-Mart, and I hate it. It's loud, difficult to push around, messy to empty, and causes shoulder pain. It was kind of a vacuuming emergency because we had just had new carpeting put in and my Electrolux wasn't working. It cost $29 to fix the 15-year-old Electrolux, so the Dirt Devil is just collecting dust. I love my Electrolux, but I got it for free. I won't pay an arm and a leg for a vacuum.
It can be done both with babies and kids...
I would agree that it is a lot easier to do when you have a baby because you can work around the baby's schedule, at least I was lucky to have a very flexible employer at the time I had my three little ones. As they get older, it is more difficult because you will be running around with them to do their activities/school stuff, and they want to spend one on one time with you, etc... but I also agree that if you have something to keep them busy like the leap pad or computer, or play things you can do it. I've managed to do this at home for 8 years with three kids starting when my 10 year old was 2 so it is possible to get it done. You need to be very organized and disciplined to get the work done but it definitely can be done with babies and kids around. Good luck!!
except birth babies.....do you all ever...sm
listen to yourselves? Unreal.
I have 5 children, two of which have been babies...
It is not always easy, but you do what you want to do. You will make it work if you try and find out what works best for you. Don't put your baby in daycare just to make it easier on yourself. You can work around the baby!

Bless your heart, hon. Been there with 2 babies.
I put gel-filled teething toys in the fridge to make them cold; did the Tylenol thing; did the Orajel thing as well.
Honestly, there's not much else you can do. Sometimes if they were a little fussy, I would recline them in my arm and dip my finger in a very cold glass of iced water to cool it and then gently massage their little gums with my cold finger. They would let me. I think the cold numbed and the massage just soothed.
This is one of those stages that it is hard to get through for both baby and parents! I feel for you. I've been up many nights and suffered long days hurting for my little ones.
If it helps, they won't remember the pain. Only you will! lol
People now see their babies as a fashion accessory
Idiots
Me thinks so too. Snowman poop is for babies. :)
When men start birthing babies and breastfeeding
then we can have a conversation about who is better.
If they are babies, lots of times the birds and
rodent population make short work of them in a few weeks. Happens all the time where I live. The babies don't have a high success rate! Good luck! Yuck is right!
I'm in favor of showers for all pregnancies/babies
Diapers and supplies are always needed regardless of which pregnancy it is. Also, babies are so wonderful; I love celebrating them (and their moms) with baby showers!
I went back to work when babies were 9 days old
And yes, you can transcribe with TWO babies on your lap. It's a royal pain getting spit-up out of the keyboard though!
And before anybody starts a flame war on me, the boys are 10 years old now and now I get to work while they're asleep.... ;)

Yuppie parents today raising a bunch of big babies
Wish someone could get through to them that they are doing more harm than good. Nephew's children are like that - it is so annoying. 6-year-old spoiled rotten, and not even fun to be around at all, but it's because they have babied him so much and given him everything he wants, that now he is just a sullen little boy. Can you believe using that word to describe a very bright little 6-year-old boy? It's really a shame.
It's CHINA for Pete's sake, where they still kill girl babies. Do you think
they have some sort of dog euthanasia patrol of paid government employees? Puhleeeze yourself.

Sad day, my mom had to put her little pom to sleep.
no sleep !
What's up with this insomnia? Mine started year before last when my brother was very ill. He passed away a few months later, and ever since, I have been depending on Ambien (which is NOT a good thing!). A few weeks ago I went to Tylenol P.M. and it does help and does not give me any side effects, about 5 hours of good sleep. Sometimes I think I transcribe in my sleep! Don't know what's up but my daughter is encouraging Valerian; after reading these posts about it too, I am giving it a try!
NO SLEEP
I used to use Ambien for years and it worked great, except that about 15 minutes after I took it I would begin hallucinating, calling people and telling them all sorts of things - some pretty good stories came out of my Ambien days. I would see things that weren't there and one time I saw 8 of my husband (wish there were 7 more of him - I would auction him off on ebay - He's a keeper - and then never work again for all the money I would make). I now take Wal-Som which is Walmart's sleep aid medication - it is not Benadryl, though, it is doxylamine succinate. It is about $4.00 for 24 pills (a lot cheaper than Ambien).
good luck - I can remember those days of racing thoughts - do you have an anxiety disorder? I did.

why no sleep for that long?
Sleep Number Bed
We've had the Select Comfort Sleep Number Bed for several years now and it definitely is the most comfortable bed. We had a water bed for years and years and love it too. The one down side to the Sleep Number bed after having a water bed is that when you crawl into it on a cold nite it is COLD. We don't have an electric blanket. The water bed was always like climbing into a nest! But I would HIGHLY recommend a Select Comfort bed. Paul Harvey and Rush Limbash both advertise them on their shows. After having the bed for a couple years our house took a lightning strike and it blew out the air pump. We called them and they send another pump at no charge. That was very nice.
meant to say there not their. Going to sleep now!!

Yes, I wish I could get them to sleep at night, too.
I had one kid wide awake until after midnight, and another one woke up at 4:30 this morning with a bad dream. This was after one of their friends pestered me every five seconds yesterday so I had to get up early this morning to finish my work. It was, "Hey, watch me. Hey, look at this. Hey, look what I can do. Hey, look what I built. Hey, hey, hey." Tap, tap, tap on the shoulder. How 'bout, "Hey, go bug your own Mom because I'm working"?
sleep apnea
My sister had the test for sleep apnea. She had to go to a sleep lab at a local hospital and spend the night there. They hooked her up with EKG monitors and other monitors which she didnt know the names of but she said basically she had to sleep and they watched and monitored her breathing, heart rate, etc., while she slept.
HAH!! I need some sleep - I looked right over it..
