The big flippin' deal is that the story doesn't mesh.

disclosing it immediately. Also, notice how he will only interview on Faux News...where he knows he will be handled with kid gloves? It's the secrecy, stupid.

Time in as an MT doesn't tell the entire story
I now have 12 yrs in as an MT, this calendar year. I have made 10 and 11 cpl in 2007. The job I love I have 9 cpl, but with so many normals and knowing the job so well, I make really good money and pretty fast.

I was offered 7 cents in October to do OPs. They were told to take hike!

I have taken an employee situation in the last 2 weeks. I am to be paid 8.5, have to work a Saturday, but get 9 cpl for that day. There are incentives and more importantly VERY affordable medical benefits and I choose my plan. There is vision and dental as well, PTO that is more than fairly figured, etc. Because they will match my FICA taxes as an employer does, these things added up to very big bucks in my favor versus IC because I had paid 23% of my income last year in taxes and yes, I have an accountant who is very good, I just do not have expenses much because I have my house paid for.

As I started to say, what type of experience for those yrs is very important too. I have every specialty, but pathology. I am an acute care MT and OPs are my thing. This makes me so desirable on the market, even I am surprised by it. I look at the platform, the hours, benefits or lack thereof, and then I ask myself if that cpl offer is worth it or not.

I have a friend with about 5 yrs of experience. Her specialties are neuro and rheumatology and this is all she will transcribe, period. She can't work more than part time, is about 150 lph and refuses to take less than 9 cents. She has little to offer a company for that 9 cents. To contrast, for my 9 cents I am very flexible, have plenty to offer and because I have such varied experience, I can "plug in" to almost anything.

See what I mean? If the job is full of ESLs who are difficult, you have little QA support, the platform sucks, the people are not decent to work with, etc. perhaps you need to rethink the money issue. I had a job this last year at 10 cents and could do well to top out at $22 an hour, but my 9 cpl gives me $35 an hour.

There are just too many unpredictable facets to say what is a good line rate.
Flippin' sweet! So you got my back and
I could quote it all day!
It is an okay deal - TR 11 font is small. Not as good a deal as Courier.
Personally, I would have to think really hard and compare reports and line counts, like the other poster below suggested, before I would jump right into it. It is probably 75-80 characters to a line +/- the single character lines you get for initials, and 2 word lines you get with op reports such as Surgeon:
    IV Fluids:
    Anesthesia:
    etc.

It probably is comparable to 9 cpl with a larger font.

Good luck in whatever you decide.

    Good Luck!

I love Deal or No Deal.......nm

Why are YOU attacking HER? Just because she doesn't want kids, doesn't mean she needs a psychi
    xx
I am about where you are I think. There is just always something new to deal with and it just gets
worse and worse. Every new thing they implement just seems to make my job more difficult and ends up costing me money. I am thinking of just going very part time and then looking for something else. I have a feeling a lot of people are doing this.
I don't know what the big deal is.
When I've had "regular" in office type jobs, I've been subject to a criminal check. All it seems to be, however, is a standard form they send to the local sheriff's office. I had a mickey mouse job in bank operations last year, no access to anything confidential or cash, and I had to be photographed, fingerprinted, drug tested, credit and background checked.

Now that I am an MT, I am amazed at how easy it is to get hired and gain access very quickly to facilities, doctors, patients and their information. All I had to do was pass a transcription test and supply a SS#. Yeah, I'm sure the big national I'm with probably ran some type of credit check; but it was still a heck of a lot easier than getting that job in bank or any other job I've had for that matter.
Why it isn't a big deal
MQ MTs (of which I am an ex) have an option.....find a decent company who can provide a consistent work flow or just deal with MQ and quit whining!  Our neighbors to the South have no choice, not only have many lost everything they own, they have also lost their jobs.  Reflecting on THAT, those of us fortunate to have been spared really have very little to whine about doncha think??
Same here. What is the big deal?
    x
Unless you want to deal with
maladjusted adult children for the rest of your life, who have very little to offer you because they can't figure out how to live a good life, if I were you, I'd get out of there tomorrow. Don't worry, you won't have to explain to him. He probably can't believe he has met a woman who would accept that type of behavior. It will not come as a surprise to anyone that you leave.

Yeah yeah, there were some good times mixed in there somewhere but they are canceled out the moment he treated your daughter with disdain. Your allowing it just proved to her she is an unworthy person. The one child who might take care of you when you get old is going to not be there for you (and believe me, you will need her).

if you can deal with it...sm
for a while and it pays your bills, take it, at least until something else comes up. it seems you have more pluses than negative right now. good luck

    what is the big deal?
It directly specifically answered the original question and is a direct link to the credentialing body without naming names or bashing anyone?
    what's the big deal ?
remember that some day when YOU need a favor.
    same deal here
same deal, it works well in radiology where there are so many normal reports.  i think its a cost saver in the long run for the facility but when the docs are training on it, if it learns something wrong, it stays wrong, so the docs are not big fans, esp older ones
    Exactly! What's the big deal?
Why would anyone be offended by that?
What was the deal with her....sm
sprawled out on stage like that while singing? At least she wasn't humping the stage like a couple of weeks ago but she didn't dress or act like one would when singing that type of song.
I don't know if that is such a bad deal...
Gas may be expensive and you may have to buy your own paper but really, is it such a big deal?

Think about the perks of it. You transcribe for all the same doctors, so there is no "sneak attack" of the backlogged account that suddenly ends up in your queue and you have never worked before. You know the area and all the area doctors and facilities, so you don't have to spend all that time researching that elusive reference dropped casually in every report. You also do not have to deal with the headaches of your company's server being down, your DSL connection being interrupted for repair, or trusting your company to make sure all of your reports are being credited to the proper MT number so you are actually being paid for what you transcribe. You have also probably worked your drop-off route to hit the grocery store, post office, and bank, and everyone goes there anyway.

Personally, I would see getting out of the house every day as part of my "paid" job a perk, because although I am pretty happy with my profession, sitting in front of a computer 8-10 hours a day can be pretty tedious. Besides all of that, I am struggling to break 3K a month.

    I would definitely do it.
IF he will deal with it, that is best
my sister married a man with 2 kids and she had 2 kids...all about the same ages. His son was a handful. I will never forget the Thanksgiving he was playing around at the table and set our great, great grandmother's tablecloth on fire. My sister looked at the fire and did nothing. I could tell she was MAKING herself do nothing (she may have had a Valium later, I don't know). Her husband put out the fire and took the boy out of the room. My sister still gets upset about that tablecloth, but today he is a pretty great kid and he respects my sister a lot.
    what's the big deal?
What's the big deal about asking if anyone needs part time help or if anyone knows of anyone doing any part time hiring?
    ....just no big deal. nm
    s
What is the deal with EHR anyway?
I have never worked in a doctor's office or hospital, and if I had maybe I would understand better.  But I do not understand why the EHR being used in doctor's offices eliminates the need for outside transcription.  Do they just check a few boxes on a form to document the visit or do they have transcription done in the office?  I have done clinic transcription before, and some of the reports were very detailed, and I can't see how all that information could be documented without someone to type it.  It seems to me that if corners are being cut (and I understand offices think cutting transcription costs is a valid way to save money) that it will come back to bite someone sooner or later.  My doctor has just gone to the EHR, and while I was sitting there talking to him he was typing on the computer and could barely look at me.  (I think he was just printing out prescriptions and lab test requests for me).  Also I had several concerns, and he commented that I might have to schedule another visit.  His office is affiliated with a hospital now and I think they are only given so many minutes to see a patient.  I just think it is sad that the clock and saving a few dollars can determine patient care (although I do not see those savings being passed on to the consumer).
    The big deal is
the doctor obviously does not know how to write his own macro (i.e. create a set of instructions whereby the computer is instructed via a couple of Keystrokes produce sometimes lengthy text/formatting/special characters, etc.) and he wants her to just give him the one that she created.

Obviously, he knows how he wants the document to read in the patients chart; what he is looking for is a way to lessen his workload, but he does not have the knowledge that he needs in this case.
I don't really see the big deal...
For goodness sakes.  If it wasn't for the doctors, we wouldn't have a job...  Why is everyone out to get the doctor?  Times change.  People move on.  No one really owes us anything.  I say give him the macros and charge him your line rate for them.  They are after all his dictation to begin with.  You simply transcribed them into your pc.  You didn't dictate them, the doctor did.
No, it's not a BIG deal but
where I work we follow the BOS recommendations and abbreviate all units of measure that are accompanied by a numeral.
    It's a done deal...
I don't work for a hospital--it's a medical clinic that houses many docs. The "green light" is in motion fot this to happen--it already is happening and the powers that be are pleased.
I'm not sure you know the deal here
This is a company that preys on offshore MTs, lures them in, gets them work (entire companies too not just individuals) and then pockets the money without paying them a dime. It's not exactly about just changing jobs for them. Should anyone figure out a way to legally go after this person, it'd be bad news. There's so much more involved than just not paying people. She tests for them with companies, has them sign in under specific information (her sign-in information) and gets their paycheck. Yes, she's a scam artist. She's not a boss.
There was a story in the
21-year-old Mexican illegal whose citizenship was sped up so he could go to join the army because that was his dream. He died in Iraq. Funny, all of a sudden he was welcome in this country.

Yeah, and it's so easy working in the fields picking your vegetables so you don't have to pay more than a couple bucks a pound.

And those Vietnamese freeloaders....working 12 hours a day,7 days a week in their little markets and restaurants. Sheesh!
    Okay, here's my story.
My Mom's middle name was Violet.   She died in Spring of 2003.  This year, guess what tiny little flowers are growing next to her headstone, not planted by me.  I looked around to see if there were any nearby, and there was one violet a little ways away, but not 3 or 4 like they were clustered right next to her headstone.   I know, the birds are responsible for it, but I really like to think she had something to do with it.
    My MQ story

I was hired by MQ in April for clinic work.  The clinic account was huge and always behind when I first started.  There were constant emails begging for people to work extra and on weekends.  Slowly, it started running out of work and they started slowly adding more and more accounts to my pool until I think I was up to around 20 (yes, 20).  Most of this work was ER notes.  I complained several times.  The ER notes were done by some of the worst dictators I've ever heard -- mostly American's, but sounding like they were eating while competing in the world's fastest talker competition.  I complained -- several times -- about no work, multiple accounts and the quality of dictators.  Finally, I received an insulting email from my supervisor telling me that I should be able to do this work.  I promptly replied that I could "do" this work, but that they did not pay me enough for the headache and resigned on the spot.  They really complained about everyone sending things to QA and QC, but with most of the accounts I was on, every report went to one or the other.  I'm not used to turning in reports filled with blanks and I and was not comfortable with the quality of work I was producing.  I'm certainly not the best Transcriptionist in the world, but I'm not the worst either and I actually care about what my work looks like.  With MQ I was lucky to make 100 lines an hour.  With my current job where I have been almost 2 years I make about 200-250 lines an hour and I also have gotten another part time job working for a local person where I make about 250-300 lines an hour.

I already had a full time transcription job with a smaller company I love and only went with MQ part time for tax purposes.  My experience was not a good one.  I personally would not work there again nor recommend employment there.  On a side note, an MT I used to work for locally went to MQ, she lasted a little over a year.  She referred someone who started 2 weeks before me and she lasted a little over 2 months.  These MTs left for basically the same reasons.  I can say that experiences will vary depending on what office you are at as will pay.  An MT I know was hired by a PA office at 7.5 cents a line for acute care (15 years acute care experience).  I was hired by the Dallas office at 9.25 a line for clinic (8 years clinic experience).  My base was actually 8.25.  I had to produce 6,000 lines in a pay period with 1600 of these lines done on the weekend to get the extra penny a line.

    It's the same old story...
You can lead a horse to water.... There's planned parenthood, free clinics, and 3 dozen forms of birth control.  In a time of more ways to prevent unwanted pregnancy than ever, we have rampant unplanned pregnancies.  It boils down to taking responsibility, and you can only do so much.  There's a whole lot of partying and "hookin up" going on out there, and when that happens, the birth control goes out the window.
    SO WHAT IS THE STORY???
Is it better for us SE people or worse?

    My story!
Hello I wanted to tell you my story so you know it is not just you. I was thriving at the local hospital I had worked at for over 2 years having working my way into transcription and coding successfully. Then there was a boss that did not like me. I was finally at full time transcription and zooming along at it. The doctors were pleased, the administration was pleased, etc. The jobs were finally staying caught up. Well this woman was very very rude! A lot to tell but the basis was she told me that if I ever planned to work at home I would never make it because my 80-120 radiology jobs a day would not cut it (these were x-rays, CTs, MRIs, mammograms, CT-guidance, needle aspirations). I knew better but she still hurt my feelings by saying that. Nobody else except the combination of myself and two other girls, one old timer and one very new had ever been able to keep things caught up before and after I left either one. I got a work at home job and left there asap. Finally got my first radiology job after having worked at one national for 4 months and one a year. The second had a radiology opening and I am thriving like mad. I would love to find her and let her know a few things. Anyways, the moral is do not give up if you feel you can do it. Every company and every account is different. The first national company, account, and superviser were not for me and I strugged big time. This second company has been pretty good. My acute care was fine I just always loved radiology and am better at it. Some hate it. Keep going until you find your fit and I wish you the best of luck!! Don't let one person and/or company get you down. Keen on keeping on!!
    Here's my story.
I worked in a doctor's office for many years and loved it. I would still be there except I now work at home which is better for me because I have children. There are some advertisements for Transcriptionist but like you said, not a lot. It may not hurt to start calling different offices. They have such a hard time finding transcriptionist, they may just be "making do". You could call and say you were interested in filling in when their regular transcriptionist was on vacation. That would get your foot in the door. I got my job the regular old way, I answered an ad. Good luck!
    The story was (sm)

Letterman went on and on about wanting to be on Oprah's show.  Well, Oprah never called or took his calls.  Then she was reported as saying that she doesn't watch Dave's show and doesn't know what he is doing.  So Letterman finally laid off and didn't say much more about it because she never called.

So to him it probably was the event of the decade because he has been wanting to see her for so long!

    Yes, it was touching.

Let me tell you a story.......
I worked for a very small MTSO, had two great accounts, no problem. This went on for several years, right up to the day she went off, fired several people, and threatened to fire me, also. I took that as my cue to leave said MTSO. I quit.

Several days later, she "needed" certain files that I had transcribed, which had already been sent to her and to the client. I had erased them from my computer. It was then, and still is MY computer. She told me point-blank that I had "no right to erase anything from that computer". Huh?????????

I suggested she contact her attorney, as I had done.

    I never heard another word.

If it is your own property (computer), no one any way, any how, any where......can tell you what to do with it. Period.

Stand your ground and leave this company if they insist upon this policy. It is simply not right and it sure as heck is not legal.
    Here's another story
A friend of mine had a contract with a local group of doctors and subbed some of her work out occasionally to me and another lady. The other lady didn't have a lot of experience, but had been subbing for her for over a year when all of a sudden she told her she had too many errors in her work and was not giving her any more. The lady got so upset by this that she wrote a letter to the doctor. The doctor in turn was so upset with the MT with the contract and wanted to know why she fired her and was concerned about getting sued and was just very upset that she had not even had a discussion with her or put her on probation or something. Maybe I should contact these docs adn apologize? It's not like I'm trying to get their business, just wanting to let them know I got fired and that I'm truly sorry they were unhappy. This lady doesn't even want to talk to me either by e-mail, messenger or phone. She is taying logged off of her messenger and won't answer e-mails at all. She is just hiding and avoiding this. I am not a confrontational person and have sent a nice e-mail to her, but she will not respond. Unbelievable. Maybe her docs will respond if I send them an apology.
    More to the story...
If you want to hear more to the story, there were problems with TAT in the past. The fact of the matter is that when it occurred THIS PARTICULAR TIME, I was not fired on the spot, I was allowed to continue working for another week with geting work in on time, thinking everything was okay, not hearing a word that work would be ending and then at the beginning of the day today, told via e-mail that I was not needed any longer. She probably took that time to train someone else, I'm sure. I think that is so heartless and to not even face up to me or give me the courtesy of a phone call or a warning that my job was in danger. I hope this person can sleep at night.
You know I got a different story from them about
With the owner telling me one thing and the MT supe telling me something different, on the day I was supposed to do my training I emailed and canceled and declined employment with them. There has not been a lot of positives said about them since them. I'm glad I listed to my gut!
