You are a person behind the keyboard. That is what is required of this job. If you want more, then find another career. Even in an office, you are still behind a keyboard. You would be surprised at what little is taken into account to being an MT at this stage in the game. It used to be a profession where some education was required as well. At this point, bada bing, bada boom, you're an MT in 2 years if it takes that long now. I'm from the old school of thought though, if you can't hang with the big dogs, just get off the porch. I mean come on, a lot of us who have been doing this for a lot longer than 6 years is feeling the crunch, but so are a lot of other professions out there. The insurance companies are part of that problem not just big MT corporations.
The problem with "employee" MTs are they call out sick and need vacations, and meanwhile the work does not get done. The big corporations offer up to these facilities and physician practicest that the work gets done whether Susie Q has to have surgery or needs a vacation!
I'm with ya' not against ya', but I just don't feel that keeping a negative outlook is going to get us anywhere. Be thankful for what you have, even if that is 8 cpl, which is what I work for, and I have 19 years of experience and still going, learning, and loving it!
Kudos to all of us MTs, but kudos is not what pays my bills! If you need to make more money, then you need to either produce more or get your own accounts. I feel like a broken record on this message board.
Have a joyful day! Another beautiful day to learn and grow!
