MTSOs: Politely declining a job opportunity?
I sent out some flyers and got 2 accounts at roughly the same time. One is wonderful, keeping me busy, and I love, love, love it. The other one negotiated the price down and has not been particularly cooperative. I realized today the latter account hasn't signed the service agreement, and I would just like to tell them properly and politely that it simply isn't working out, but I don't know how to go about it. Has anybody had to do this before? How would you suggest going about it? I don't even know where to begin.

Thanks in advance,

Tonya
They have to make money somehow since they have declining membership dues. nm

Offshoring to India is the direct result of declining quality

being produced by American MTs.  The declining quality being produced is the direct result of inexperienced, under-educated MTs being churned out by these online MT schools.

Offer 1 week notice, but willing to offer 2 if they would be in a bind. Also, (sm)

Quit 10 years ago because I ended up in the
hospital with an asthma attack. If you have asthma, you will not smoke. The way I did it was very short term use of the patch and 13 months of a low dose of Paxil. It kept me from having panic attacks from not having a cigarette. You probably know that there is more nicotine in all brands now than there was ten years ago.
I understand. Been in same boat. I ended up
trying to do the 2 jobs for a few years - IC and employee, and absolutely burned myself out. I sold out and stuck with the employee position. I don't regret it in the big picture, but I sure do miss my freedom. That hurts so much that I am basically dead emotionally regarding my JOB. Its now a job. But I just was not finding the security at IC positions and was afraid. I'm getting older and can't mess around with companies going under and the like. Once I did finally give up the second job as IC, though, it did take away lots of pressure, and I realized how hard I had been working doing the 2 jobs. So, I am an employee and probably safe, but I feel sad. Its a corny comparison, but I feel like one of those wild mustangs who was free, but now is saddle broke and in a corral.............Neigh. All I can say is I wish my parents home schooled me. I ended up sm
getting into a gang from school due to constant peer pressure, failed the 8th grade, got arrested, and deep down inside my heart was always right and conscience telling me no, but when you have kids all around you who are just no good, you seem to get sucked into their ploys....My school years were just absolutely awful.

We didn't move away until it was too late. Moved to another state...I can't really tell you how I survived those high school years, but I can tell you this - it would have been much better for me and my own life had I been pulled from that situation altogether. I have 3 young boys now and I am home-schooling my 4 y.o. (pre-K). We do very little right now, but it may be a door for their future. We have social life at school and with relatives and good friends whom I CAN decide is right for them - when you are at school, we as parents, don't see all that is going on and kids nowadays need that constant supervision (which I lacked) and so I think home schooling CAN BE OF HELP FOR SOME and for others (maybe if they had good self esteem and knew better) can be in public schools.

Public schools nowadays though, are really going straight down the tubes..

PS: I did not read ANY of the other home schooling posts. Just wanted to share my story.

I do have a crockpot in my Goodwill box. I've ended up with 3 of them somehow.

Thanks for the offer.  My mother and maternal grandmother both died of breast CA and I always knew of all the girls in the family I was going to be the one to get it, just didn't think this early.  Haven't had staging yet, but I get yearly mammograms so hopefully they've caught it early enough.

I'm already trying to decide if I'm going to dye my hair that burgundy color that seems to be popular  or if I'm going to get a super short haircut.  I've recently taken up knitting and I've already accumulated a major stash of yarn and I'm making a list of all the things I'm going to make and how I'm going to teach all the other people going through chemo to knit and we'll just have a jolly ole' time knitting and carrying on.  I've been wanting more time to knit.

It's narrow-minded to blame any one generation. We Boomers blamed our parents' generation for all the world's problems, as well. I see CEOs from all 3 generations: My parents', the Baby Boomers, AND generations X & Y. GREED comes in all ages, sizes, shapes, and ethnicities.

I DO agree, however, on voting the old timers out of office. Not necessarily because they are OLD, but because too many of them are GREEDY, short-sighted, narrow-minded, and in the case of a certain President, jus' plain DUH-MB!
It sounds like the processes haven't ended yet...sm
Go to Task Manager and the Processes tab and you should see "wc32.exe" and "winword.exe" and if those are still running after you closed Extext, that means the program hasn't completely shut down yet. You can manually force it shutdown by highlighting each of those processes and hit End Task, I believe it is. Click yes when it prompts you to, then you shouldn't get that message about it not responding and the normal.dot message.
A lot of people who grew up without privilege ended up skanks too
Money or lack of money has nothing to do with it. It's whether the person has any value system, lines they will not cross, and standards set for themselves regardless of financial status.
Not sure, but had something similar happen to me to, I ended up changing companies...
The telephone company I had was for unlimited calls, long distance and regional calls. Everything was fine for about 3 months and got a letter where they were disconnecting my service because they said I had used it too much. I called them and stated to them that it wsa for unlimited minutes and they just said sorry, they were discontinuing my service. Luckily I was moving anyway and the new area I moved to has cable. Might check into another telephone service. Good luck.

Ditto on Voice Systems. I have a friend who worked for them and ended up being owed .... SM
way more than $1000 when the first company went bankrupt. Also I had applied but decided not to take the job, and the MTSO literally begged me to come to work for them. I'm sure glad I didn't. Maybe this present company they've started will be better, but so far, it doesn't sound like it.
Went to pig roast. Chefs had no idea how to cook pig. Ended up smelling and tasting like garbage.

No joke. I made 12 cpl as an employee at a large teaching hospital. I should mention the ended up
work to an outside service and that is why I'm not with them today, but good paying, employee status jobs are out there, though they are few and far between.  You just have to be patient and be good at what you do.
Can I offer something? sm

I have a 13 yo boy.  He sounds much like your daughter, wonderful kid, straight A's very much likes to hang with the family, etc.  Never had a problem with him.  However, he knows that I mean business.  If a child is going to sneak and do stuff that he/she knows parents won't like I say give them a consequence to remember.  Maybe you either have to take a few days off work and go to school with your daughter, explaining to her that since she cannot be trusted you need to attend class with her to be sure everything is going okay or take everything away from her and let her know that since she is not being responsible enough to come to you and she feels the need to sneak things past you, you have felt the need to remove material possessions from her life until she can become responsible enough to handle it.  She is giving in to peer pressure which of course we know will only get worse.  Emphasize to her that she is number one to you, you love her too much to allow anybody to influence her the wrong way or to let her waste one day of her life doing things that will not benefit her.  She is God's gift to the earth and she should treat herself as such and expect others to treat her the same.  If her friends do not respect that her parents will not allow her to do certain things, than those friends need to go bye bye.  I know this sounds tough but guess what, you are not raising an 11 yo you are raising a strong, wonderful, beautiful, smart, wise woman, she is only 11 for 365 days.

Lastly I want to applaude you for even caring. When my son was in sixth grade a mother of a girl he goes to school with showed up at the awards assembly and was taking pictures of my son.  I sat down beside her and when I cheered for my son as he got an award she said "oh is that your son" to which I replied "yes it is" and she said "oh my daughter is so in love with him, that is why I am taking so many pictures"  I just wanted to punch her, what is she teaching her daughter by doing that?  I explained to her that my son was 11 and had no time for girls, he was heavily involved in basketball and church and would not be allowed to spend time with girls for quite a few years.  She was appalled at what I said.  I walked away, hoping she would think about it before her daughter met up with a boy whose parents don't expect the standards to be quite so high.

Job offer
Are you kidding? There are people out there who do QA with many years of experience who don't make that. Jump at the chance.
You might ask them if they offer (sm)

combat pay or double or even triple time to come in whenever needed.

Got a job offer
I got an offer today.  As you stated, I requested to be paid for headers/footer, etc. and that was acceptable to them.  Right now, I'm not getting any work from any of my other jobs and haven't for the past month or so.  I think this is their downtime or something, which doesn't pay my bills.  I don't know whether it's smart to take the job w/CyMed or not being that this company offshores work.  However, I'm a single parent trying to make ends meet any way I can -- even if it means accepting less than desired.  Any suggestions?  I would greatly appreciate it.
Got my offer.
They offered me 9 cpl. I think that's okay. Been out of the biz for a while. I would like to be an IC someday....
My DH had a job offer there once...
We traveled there to check it out and by the day we left, I was TOTALLY against going there.  But it's highly individual.  I can't stand living out in the middle of nowhere, which was where we were going to end up (Evanston), with a 2 hour drive one direction to SLC down out of the mountains and 2 hours in any other direction to "nowhere."  If that wasn't bad enough, the clincher was the park ranger in Evanston who told us that winter up at that altitude is basically 10 months.  ENOUGH for me, DONE, FINISHED, I was OUTTA there.  It snows until June and starts back up in September.  That may be different in Laramie or other places, but up on that continental shelf high altitude area of southwestern Wyoming, it's COLD!  We didn't move there.
The first offer should be better.
However, the font and margins the client uses on the gross line account will impact the line count. Best advice is to run a test on some documents that you have right now using both methods and see where you come out.
Thanks for the offer
I live in PA and as much as I hate the winters here I'm not sure my husband is ready to pick up and leave but thanks for the offer
They will offer up a job you will see SM
on all the boards on your own anyway, and if you refuse that job and tell them to find a different one, you will never hear from them again.
And they can say thank you and offer their first newborn

Yeah, but W isn't alone as a world-leader in surrounding himself with Secretarys and admins who are mostly dicks.  Actually, I'm surprised Fidel made the offer-unless he's got all the Dr.'s families locked away for "return-receipt" purposes
Yes, they do offer benefits.
I wasn't aware that they hired SE or IC.  I was only offered FT or PT employee status with a set schedule.
You may offer to do ops on several accounts. That's

Actually, they do offer insurance to SM

part-time associates after 2 years.  They also have insurance that full-time associates can get during their 90-day waiting period for their regular insurance to kick in after they are hired.

I agree - consider the new job offer; but also consider, sm
if you can have unlimited work available at either job. That to me is a big plus or are you limited by how much is available. Whichever one has the most consistent work available, is the one I would work for, or I would try doing both for a few weeks to figure it out. I know that would be tough, but in the long run would be worth it.

The higher line count does not necessarily mean it is the best fit. The work may run out; however, the lower line count may have consistently a larger volume and you will never run out.

If you are unsure, as an IC, you can try both, just will have to put in a lot of hours for the first few weeks to figure it out.

I have always done that and always have 2 IC positions, sometimes 3.

Good luck in whatever you decide!
Absolutely take that offer!

RUN AWAY FAST FROM THAT OFFER!
I had to purchase the StartStop foot pedal for $200. The first day was a nightmare. The second day was worse. The third day was just pathetic, but the fourth day was okay after I sent them a nasty email. I had to explain to them, I was a Transcriptionist and not a translator. They put me on another account with doctors speaking English and as soon as I got my line count decent, they put me back on the ESLs. Their accounts are 99% ESLs. When I say ESL, I mean they do not speak any English whatsoever, i.e. "thrappy" is therapy and "palowang" is electrogram <---- I am still trying to figure that 1 out. Their QA/editor must be an online transcription course poster and have no experience in grading a transcriptionist's work. They constantly change your report, spell it wrong, and then turn it in to the client with words misspelled under your name. Then to top it off, they send you nasty emails stating your accuracy rating is low due to mistakes. When you go view the corrected report, your report was actually right and they were the one who changed it for no reason because they do not have grammar, medical terminology, etc. So I would not take any offer with them. They are more of a learning transcription company who have not mastered transcription itself. Therefore, they are not capable of grading an experienced transcriptionist's work because they are still learning.
Hello! I can't offer any advice, other than
to share that I was in nearly an identical situation about 4 years ago, right down to even selling our antique furniture - not that it was worth all that much, but I had collected it over the years and it was the furniture we used - the chairs, kitchen table, etc. We did lose everything - even many friends who could not understand how everything went so wrong so quickly. I am also a Christian, and I got the most criticism from my prior church family. We had done nothing wrong - just a series of snowballing things went wrong. We had to move to a completely different area of our state. No doors would open for us other than from strangers hundreds of miles away - we weren't asking for handouts - just a house to rent that we had the $$ for. At any rate, I had kids as well, pets - beloved animals that I had to euthanize as not one animal organization would help me - the Lord could not have squashed me further. But he stopped right before I broke permanently, and I then trusted that this was meant to be - 4 years later, I am so blessed beyond my wildest dreams. Everything I lost has been restored and 10 or 20 fold, I have a great job, great new car - though a practical one - and I look at nothing the same - nothing matters as other posters have said - My kids grew so much into great mature kids thru this tragedy, all have new close awesome friends, and we found a church that was absolutely the perfect match for us. I am just picking at different topics, but it was such a tragic experience that in the end turned into such a blessing. We just had to hang in there when nothing made sense...and we got pruned of a lot of - stuff - in our lives, but all for the best in the end. Please feel free to write me as well if you would like to talk. I certainly understand 100% what you're going thru and how depressed you feel.
I can't even offer a comment to you.
.
Not much to offer, but legally I don't even
think his mother could get his $ before you, his wife. Something sounds fightable there. Sounds like your hubby has a lot of growing up to do. When a guy marries, he should lessen the relationship with his mom, and transfer his love, attention, devotion, loyalty to his wife. As long as his parents are willing participants, doesn't sound like you have much of a chance. I had been in a vaguely similar situation - my husband's controlling parents were ruining our marriage - they actually wanted us to divorce due to their own control issues. We separated, I moved to the other end of the state. My husband quickly followed, and once out of his parents' WEB, we were able to focus on our marriage, and he was able to see the negative influence of his parents. I'm sorry you're going thru this. PLEASE keep us posted!
Thanks, max. We got an offer and it is now under contract......nm

Then, I would say 9 cpl to 10 cpl would be a decent offer.
Go for it!
Which offer sounds best?
I have only worked for 1 national and there I get 0.969 cpl for 65-char with spaces, and right now the incentive is 1.5 cpl at 7,000 for ALL lines typed (inctive is subject to be discontinued soon possibly).  I have an offer for 0.95 cpl with for 55-char line with NO spaces and 1 cpl for all lines with 98% quality, but a VERY slow platform.  Second offer is 0.85 cpl for 65 char with spaces, 1 cpl bonus over 6,000 lines for only the lines over 6,000, but a pretty good platform.  So much to figure and think about my head is swimming.  The second 2 jobs have much better benefits.   HELP!!
Interesting job offer
I can't take it because it requires too much traveling, but I was offered a position where I would go to hospitals and clinics and work with docs and MTs going onto VR systems.  I said I charged $36 an hour for it and once again I think I low balled myself.  Any ideas where to look to get ballpark figures for this sort of thing?  I would LOVE to go to hospitals and train doctors to be better dictators.  I told them if they wanted to use me once in a while or do more local places I would consider it.
new grads and what they have to offer
very little experience, work very cheaply, anything just to get an opportunity. What a reality check it will be for them when they realize theyre going nowhere in this business after a couple of years, no raises, no opportunity for advancement, and still be making the same (or lower)$12/hr they started out at, all the while cost of living going up. Bright futures, I think not. Burn out, YES. These newbies will have to work even harder than we have to right now to make ends meet, maybe even take a second job. You are fortunate to have your own accounts and your own work so..... I don't think you understand whats going on in the world of MTs that work for these companies who work them to death.
