I also am a child of the 60's and I hate the pressure and trend that is coming from our schools. In particular, in our area, we have having a huge growth so they keep building schools but they keep getting overfilled. My son's class alone has 26 1st graders. That is way too much. My son does better with one-on-one but he will never get that. He does get so frustrated because I feel they expect too much. You should see the homework they have IN 1st GRADE..I dont remember having that in 1st grade. I think my son is a littler slower to learn and is becoming incredibly frustrated because of the pressure. I understand the whole "zero tolerance" that schools have adopted because of violence etc.., but my kindergartener was suspended for having a little pink and white water gun in his backpack. Then, he cried one day because he couldnt have hot lunch because the teacher thought his snack was his lunch so.. he got sent to the principal's office for crying to "get better control of himself". He drew a picture of himself with spikes all over.. he wants spiked hair.. and they interpreted as "he sees himself as the devil" and needs counseling. I am so sick of them overanalyzing my child. What is wrong with schools.. Are they being "overtrained" to look for signs of abuse and "problem children". My son is loving and sweet at home but they treat him like he is a monster at school and says he lies etc..
