I really appreciate it!  I have been comfortable for 5 years with my derm practice and they are going EMR.  I'll be left with no clients.  I actually have done postcards now.  I have offered a 2% discount if I'm paid within a week and 1 cent off per line if 24 hour TAT isn't needed.  You're right, you have to get them when they need you.  It just seems like docs are using in-house or EMR.  I guess I'm just getting a little frustrated.  I love this office and I make great money with 4 docs.  How would I go about going digital?  I read the posts above about Express Scribe.  Any help would be great.  Again, thank you!  I needed the boost of confidence.

I have been an MT for over 10 years.  I also am getting burnt out, tired of my job, day in day.  However, I do love transcription and make excellent money at it, have grossed over $50,000 per year the last 5 years.  I decided to go back to nursing school and am very happy with my choice.  However, over these 10 years of transcription I have had my ups and downs.  My biggest issue with being at home working is lack of socialization, being home day in and day out with just the kids and the animals really gets to a person, sure hubby is home at night and thinks working from home is the easy life, thus the return to school and boy has my overall enjoyment of life changed once I realized I was the problem, not everyone else and I needed to find myself again.

Anyway, my biggest advice to you three-fold:

1.  Get into counseling for yourself, find out who you are and what your needs are, whether or not you think you need to, I sense you are feeling overwhelmed and need someone other than your family to talk to that can be nonjudgmental to your feelings and needs.

2.  If you're only making $100 after you pay preschool you can either keep doing it and be miserable, or quit because you are lucky enough to have a husband who can support the family without your income. (See how fast his mind changes just by losing the income you do have as to whether your job means anything.)  Or look for a different company or office that you like more and are more productive if you really want to do transcription (lots of fish in the sea as far as companies).

3.  Find a local "mom's" group where you can get out and socialize.  MOPS (mother's of preschoolers) is an excellent one that is nationwide, they have a website.  Also Mom2Mom is in a lot of areas.  They provide a once a week time for moms with kids the same age to get together, socialize, (some offer spirtual guidance some don't) and each week a different mom takes a turn watching everyone else's children at the facility that hosts it so the other moms can talk about things they have in common.  Every stay-at-home and work-from-home mom needs to socialize with adults, without their kids, or they will have a nervous breakdown eventually no matter how much they love their kids.

Sorry so long but it does get better but you have to take the first step at making yourself happy.

Their fee is $40 a month, which I didn't think was too bad.  The total I will be paying them is almost what I am paying now.  The difference will be the interest rates and time it takes to pay them off.  My husband is really upset that we are going to do this, but as I said before, I don't see any other way.  I am keeping one credit card with a low limit for emergencies, travel, etc. and the rest of them will be history!!  When I get out of this mess, it will never happen again.  Again, I appreciate your info.

you don't need to explain yourself to Tikki (aka Kikki) or anyone else on this board.  You took a bashing about the cookies and now about tapes, and money for gas, and on and on and on and on.

You are obviously a very successful and talented MTSO/MT/WOMAN.  I admire you.  May you continue to have good fortune shine down on you.

May you one day realize your life is worth living and trying to impress people on newsboards with what little you have is not necessary to make your life whole or meaningful.

I know you are busy and I don't want to interrupt you, but you are so knowledgeable about tax questions and I thought maybe you could help me, somehow.   If you could possibly email me, I would really appreciate it, as I do not want to divulge personal tax info on this site.   thanks so much.  When you have time, of course.   

I will only be typing short letters to referring docs. I have listened to some of types and you are right about the meds. I had trouble with some of the topical creams.

I have had the same account(oncology) for five years. I would also like to pick up other accounts; however, this doctor keeps me sooo busy it is almost impossible to transcribe for someone else. I have picked up dermatology account, but only 26-30 letters per month.

I am going on vacation in June for about three days and worried sick about coming back from vacation and having to type over 200 notes!! This doctor sees over 75 patients a day and also has a Saturday clinic (40-50 patients). Any suggestions????

The medications is what I am having a hard time with as the doctor tends to mumble and speaks very fast. His notes are very short, no OP notes.

What usual drug pages are you referring to - Is this a list that you have started?   

So, there is NO WAY to do any kind of short cuts???

I can't wait to run these ideas and things past our big boss.  Hope it helps them.

It all boils down to whether you signed a non-competitive contract stating that for so many years you would not approach any account that you worked on.  Just like when you are working for a company through a Temp agency, you usually sign a contract stating that you will not approach that company for a job and if they do you, they have to pay the Temp company so much money.   That is protection for any company, just as I do, that someone does not come in take your client list, bid low for your clients and attempt to take them away.  If they do then they usually have to pay you something as specified in the contract.   That is my 2 cents worth.   If you have not signed a contract, approach them.   Just do not try to get it through bad mouthing or putting your ex-company down.  Approach them professional and point out your good qualities and do not point out their bad ones.  It is a very small world out here and you could come in contact with them again and you do want to act profesisonal, honest and with integrity.
