Don't see anything wrong with it, more fun than just getting an flyer
Flyer advice
Hi everyone,
I'm in the process of working up a flyer to send out in an attempt to add some clients. I've never done this before, so I was wondering what information you'd include (besides name and phone number).
Thanks for any and all ideas!
So, do I send in a flyer or a resume?
And say I'm open to compensation?
I received a flyer from Lippincott, Williams & --sm
Wilkins offering a trial study guid and CD to take the RMT exam. Has anyone done this? Where/when/how are the exams given?
Thanks! Did not see that flyer. It sounds like a good deal. nm

Brochure
If you wouldn't mind, could you send me a copy of that too?
Thanks!

And me, too cmer222@comcast.net Thanks.
brochure - me too
Can you send me one too? Mwwtranscription@insightbb.com
Brochure
I haven't found any samples yet, but I like to look at other transcription web sites to get ideas.
Brochure
I do my own and basically just wrote down what services I offer, my experience, prices and why they should use my service. Did a flyer, then went to brochures and follow up postcards. I have averaged 1 to 2 contacts per 100 to 125 brochures put out. But look at other MT sites see what they say and get some ideas then sit down and do yours that represents you and your business.

Thanks for your advice Patti. Right after the New Year I will be out there trying to drum up some new accounts.
For the person below wanting brochure--sm
samples, check out the enclosed link. Tried one and did not see where there was a charge. You will need to modify with your personal info.

hope this helps.
I picked up a brochure and it stated that --sm
the student version did not come with outlook 2007, which I happen to like. Guess it will be the next up version for me. sigh.
What to put in brochure for private accts-SM
I have the need to go out and find some more private accounts. The one I have is too erratic to depend on, and I fear will dry up shortly.
What information should I put in the brochure? Do I just say "experienced" or list the local places I work for and have worked for?
Bright color paper to bring attention to my services or good business quality?
Send to the office or the office manager ?
I have so many questions. Does anyone have any good suggestions, or even samples you might be willing to share with me? I have always gotten work by word of mouth. All suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
Go for it, I am planning to send out a brochure - sm
in my area shortly. Have my business cards designed, now working on my brochure, then just going to run 25 off at a time on my printer and send them out the the docs/specialities I am proficient which happens to be quite a few. So if 1-2 docs get back to me out of 100 I should be set. Tired of making 7-8 a line depending on the account I am working. If by any miracle I get too much work I guess I will just have to hire someone to help and work for me!
what about a brochure? brochuremaker.com is really easy and looks professional sm
also, there are lots and lots of samples on the other mt board you can even print for free
Request that they place a stop payment on the check, reissue, and mail priority or overnight mail
If they refuse or invent unbelievable excuses, you'll know you have a problem. If MY check was a week late, there are many months I would be in deep trouble.
I realize checks occasionally do get lost in the mail. If they are 100% sure it was mailed, then they shouldn't mind issuing another.
Be firm and be persistent.

Depending on the distance you can get them anywhere from 3-8 days later. Right now one takes 3 days, the other 3-5.

Block her E-mail, return mail unopened
On AOL I can determine who I want to receive mail from and block those I do not -- and if they are blocked they get their E-mail back as being "undeliverable". If she sends things out -- send back --unaccepted. But to be simple just E-mail her back or call the recuriter if you don't want to deal with her directly and state -- leave me alone. If she is in another state you should not be scared of her but you may simply have to put it out there in no uncertain terms.
I'm getting e-mail and personal mail from MQ regarding changes
and lawsuits. What's up with MQ? Any speculation? My mail is general and not specific to my office. Think things are coming to a head with the lawsuits and MQ is trying to play nice?
ESL Docs
That is SO true!!!! There is definitely a problem with dictating the appropriate gender when it comes to ESL docs. They tend to go back and forth umpteen times during one dictation, so you really have to pay attention. Verb tense can also get very confusing.
I agree that sometimes slowing down and concentrating can actually increase productivity. Even though I feel like I'm transcribing like a tortoise, I'm really getting more done than I think when I slow down and allow myself to think.
Just hang in there with QA. They are just doing their job and you need to take a good look at what they are telling you and concentrate on that issue. It's really hard not to take it personally, that's for sure, but it's gonna make you a better Transcriptionist in the long run. On the other hand, if you feel they are truly wrong about an important issue, then challenge them!! But you'd better have major references to back up your challenge.

ESL docs
are you on VR yet? you can choose to have a 20% cut on your baseline rate and get the "better" dictators ?? or you can choose to keep your MT 100% baseline rate and probably get all of the ESL docs -- what a choice - not fair, huh??
This is almost as bad as the docs
I got three of them yesterday...three different docs. I think this is soooo rude! I'm almost to the point where I'm going to refuse to attempt to do them. Surprisingly, it's always a female doc who is dictating either a GYN or breast cancer related report.
I can picture a couple of these ladies hopping on a Harley Davidson riding home from work.
I think they should ask all ER docs
if they even know the English language to begin with, 'cause if they do, they don't practice it.
I know everyone knows that a lot of docs don't
read the reports after we have transcribed them, but I just had a doc on my account dictate that he wanted the line "Dictated but not read" added to ALL of his reports from now on. He was mad because he said he requested this to be done a few weeks ago and has been "keeping track" and it hasn't been getting done.
Amazing.
All of my PAs were better than the docs before
I switched companies and along with my new account came all new PAs (and might I add, quite a few of them) who all make me miserable. They botch the dictations beyond belief and I am left to fix the sentences which look like riddles and are actually confusing after they get done with it.
Change thoughts in the middle of a sentence...start talking and forget where they left off so I am sitting there for another 2 minutes waiting through the ummms and ahhhs and the start of sentences "the patient umm.... ahhh" and I'm waiting for them to say something and they just hang up.
Mine are good for this too... they will dictate an incomplete report and then a few dictations after they will start finishing incomplete dictations, adding in something they forgot to say, or they will say CC a copy to: Dr. ____ on a 4 second report and not say whose report it goes on. This would be easy to figure out if they didnt have 40 dictations and at least 5 hang-ups with about 8 of those 40 dictations being something they want added on to some nameless patient's report.
Had I not switched jobs, I would have had a hard time believing any PA was hard to transcribe...just because I had a good bit of them on my other account and they were all PERFECT speakers.
Now when I see that I have to transcribe a PA--
ESL docs
Hey there,
Hang with it a little while longer. You'll probably find that it gets easier. Those ESL doctors do say the same thing over and over again and it takes practice to get it. Try listening a few seconds longer than the phrase you aren't getting because sometimes that helps. I agree that samples help an awful lot so be sure to request as many as you can. Good luck! You can do it!
I would always rather have my ESL docs over the sm
English as first language docs, who speed talk, slur words, and don't seem to care about the patients. I am usually very impressed with the patient care given, and the understanding of the human issues, by the ESL docs. I think the problem with the original poster is she needs to learn to transcribe these docs, with all the suggestions, especially getting samples, mentioned above. She doesn't really seem that concerned with patient care, but her inability to transcribe difficult dictators. It is, quite simply, the nature of the business. The easy docs go on voice recognition, and the transcriptionists transcribe the difficult dictators.
I tell ALL my docs that I'm an MT...
...and I transcribe and read my own reports (I work for a large healthcare co). Hubby signed a HIPAA form for me to transcribe and read his reports, too. Now the docs are more careful
how many docs know?
When I mention to physicians that if they send their work out it might be sent overseas they are appalled! Sometimes they say things like, "So that's why there were so many mistakes." Companies don't always tell them where the work is being done or by whom.
I still fault them for trying to save money at our expense, but in a certain sense some of them are being taken advantage of as well. Perhaps our "enemies" could turn out to be our best allies should a good case make it to Court TV.
We need to educate the physicians as well as the public.
docs
Or I like when they make up their own spelling of words, especially meds.
docs
sorry made a mistake above...I meant the docs take me to the bathroom with them LOL!!!
docs
Let's face it ladies and gents - doctors have absolutely NO respect for what we do for them so they can make $$$$$$$$$$$$$$....
If it really isn't you or wasn't you...
I would check out the posts made by MQMT under "Straw that broke the camel's back". Maybe I'm seeing double....who knows anymore at this stage of the game!! Have a good day.
By the way, I did have a complete burnout on MTing after about 30 years so took a two year break; Glad I'm back now but the break was a "good thing"!!
Maybe the CEO wasn't (sm)
addressing students who were kicked back in their easy chair with time to surf the internet. Maybe he only meant it for students that had evacuated and would eventually find their way to a computer where they could go online and contact the school, since they didn't have the phone number in their pocket when they ran.
I know it wasn't
my post. I just get tired of people who seem to be looking for a reason to jump all over some one. You are the one who needs to take a chill pill. Unlike you, I am perfectly calm.
Actually it was. I wasn't trying to
say your kids are perfect angles or be a smart ass. Maybe I should have worded that better. Sometimes you/we come across different in emails, internet or whatever then what you/we are really trying to say. Maybe we all did. Enough said.
No, that wasn't one of them.
You mentioned below that it was a local company. I'd give it a try. If you find out down the road that it's horrible, you can quit. Otherwise, you might miss out on a good thing because some person on an Internet message board had a bad experience with some other company. We are all seeking different things in relation to work. Don't let our experiences scare you. One employer, one MTSO or one account doesn't set the standard for the entire industry.
Thanks, wasn't sure how I was going to keep up with it
moving that fast. Looking forward to next week and trying to sort it all out.
I said I wasn't going to do that

When did I say that I wasn't doing it?
I never said that. I don't get all of his reports. I work for a national. I am not the only MT on the account. This was the first I had heard him request this and I did what he asked. Had I known beforehand I would have done it before. Someone else dropped the ball on that. I let my supervisor and QA know about his request. Apparently the MT who got the request originally did not do that.
Thank you, I wasn't looking at it that way.

Too bad there wasn't
a way to make these people in India aware of how they are being ripped off only making $27 a day, when some of us make that in an hour. Maybe then they would demand more money from these US companies and the MTs in the US wouldn't look so expensive to employ. I almost fell out of my desk chair when I read what they make in a day.
