Seriously, I really needed this. I have already decided I'm going to keep her home for the next six weeks of school. I may even keep her home next year, given what you've written. She will only be 5 in June. I turned 6 in kindergarten. I firmly believe she needs to spend some time with me now that I'm not as stressed out from living with her father. We currently share a bedroom - Strawberry Shortcake and Care Bears - and I'm getting closer to her. I didn't feel comfortable sending her to school, but I did. I can find time to type around her and still have tons of time to spend with her while her brother and sister are at school. Her brother is 3 (four in September) and is doing very well in school. Different kind of kid. I'm sure it will be a battle on Tuesday with the teacher and the principal, but with all of your support I'm now ready to stand my ground. She will not finish the school year with a teacher/school that thinks she should be "up to snuff" with kids that have been in school all last year and this year. They will probably be ready for kindergarten with all that behind them, but she's just starting this stuff. Give me a break. Thanks again. Wonderful post. I needed it.

I was thinking the same as you until just recently, until I had time to think about it and study the letter which states as one of the "highlights": A newly defined full-time employee classification with flexible scheduling.

My thinking (sleep-deprived, so forgive me if it is not eloquent): If they can offer former SEs flexibility and they can eliminate the quarterly bonus, it might be to their financial advantage.

Many MTs who are SEs have insurance from spouses or just can't afford MQ's insurance, so they opt for SE. Now, they may have done some kind of cost comparison thing and found that SE versus employee is not as cost-effective on the SE end as they thought. What else about being an SE costs them anything? PTO is the only thing I can think of (and unless they improve that significantly, it's not worth much). Stock options? They aren't even selling, right?

They are also offering flexible scheduling for part-time employees.

Regarding your insurance question, back when my office was bought out by MQ, the insurance for a family was in the range of $500/month. For employee only it was pretty cheap. May have changed since then and I don't know anything about the plan.

One more thing... the SE bonuses coincidentally come out in October, the same time this new thing will be introduced. Perfect time to eliminate it. I just have a bad feeling, but time will tell.

tried to make clear that these were EXACTLY my sentiments .. my mention of Northern only referred to the fact that I studied the average range of pay of MTs years ago, and have consistently noted the trend that the area which you are transcribing in directly affects the pay scale, mostly for in-hospital work ... up North, there is such a higher cost of living, unfortunately, and I believe this leads to some higher wages ..heck, we have had manufacturing companies leave the Northeast region because, along with utilities and other operating expenses being cheaper, they knew they also could offer less pay to the workers down South because of the pay scale. This is no reflection on who is smarter, better, etc., just stating statistics to look at when deciding if you are being paid/offered pay fairly. Again, why look for an arguement or insult when NONE was intended, only assistance and info, which was requested? Civil war was over many years ago, true?

I realize that India is a third-world country and it is a small percentage of Indian workers who are benefiting from the offshoring of American MT jobs and it may be only a small percentage of jobs been offshored, but the impact of this small percentage to the entire industry of medical transcription is tremendous.  It has lowered the standard wage for the American medical transcriptionist.  How can an American MT compete with 3 or 4 cpl?  By accepting only a little more per line than the Indians or by taking jobs editing the Indian MTs work for 3 or 4 cpl.  Either way, we lose.  We make less than we did 10 or 20 years ago and that's progress?!?! 
Should just post all their open positions in one post and only be allowed to post one of those a day

Yes, I tried to post same last night about 10 times, and it won't let me post.
I used to breed lab puppies (please no activist flames)! I had a champion female white Canadian lab, and people would be on a list for years if by chance I bred her, which I did twice, and so that I could continue her line.  Anyhow, she's my sweet Skye who passed away 2 months ago? At any rate, we had the same problems with kids in the "hood" who wanted to come over and play once the puppies were old enough to be exercised daily and played with.  At first I thought, how cute, right? Puppies and little kids - what better picture! Well, the majority of kids were adorable, but there were always 1 or 2 sick ones who would smack the pups, smash and hold their heads in the dirt (a real common thing, but I don't know why - psychiatrist anyone).  At any rate, I finally had to ban the whole group due to the 1 or 2 creeps, had to call the police, the whole 9 yards, and that's EXACTLY what the police officer told me - next thing is there will be poison meat or a donut in the yard. He told me to always go out and patrol my yard, especially alone the fence line every day before I let the dogs out, particularly at night. I went out with a flashlight.  It was about a month later, but sure enough - poison meat.  Because there were so many kids involved, we obviously couldn't pin point the exact family, but the police went and read the riot act to them all. It would stop and not happen again for a year or so, but every now and again we would find something. My dogs were NEVER out and barking, so it was nothing like that - it was just over the puppies and the cruel kids.... Not trying to freak you, but that's the way these kids and their families are.  You can really judge someone's character by ill treatment of a PUPPY, of all things. And the parents??  They sound whacked.  Please be careful.

it explained the two. The psychosis actually develops after the depression. Scary stuff.

You posted it like it is.  What about this young boys parents??  What was he doing out at 2-3 in the morning??  What kind of parent would allow that??  No where have these posters who are blaming the victim even tried to put blame on this boy.  Amazing.  I hate to say it but the old cliche is true.  very few women stand together or help each other, the claws come out and they attack each other.  This young boy has told several different accounts of what happened that night.  My take is that they put a date rape drug in her drink, as some of her friends said she was acting strangely.

it's not necessarily having a "unique ability to spot a loser right away." Too many women have baby rabies and don't care whose sperm they get, as long as they get that baby. Then, when daddy's true colors come out, it's too late. THEN they so very often breed with them AGAIN. What the hell is wrong with these women? Then then end up "single mothers" with a giant chip on their shoulder, expecting the world to make up for their bad choices.

Yes, dads die. But from what I see 95% of single mothers got that way by having kids with the wrong men.

see, 1600 or 1700 lines in 8 hours.  But I can spend 3 or 4 hours of really doing nothing but typing and do 1000 lines.  I shouldn't take 8 hours to do 1600.  I should be able to 2000.  I find that I get on this board, zone out, get up a lot, etc., after I reach my 1000.  That is what I need to work on!

just the general tone of the posts lately...mean, nasty, downright catty...and not necessarily just this board, but the general population as well.  Like driving on the freeway--rude people cutting you off, etc--in the grocery store--the rude cashier--it's everywhere. Can't even hardly go to church anymore without some drama going  on.

This isn't about then, it's about now and also about what you said in your post.
FEMA is responsible to getting relief to ALL the victims.   I realize that it's going to take longer than 1-1/2 weeks, but what I disagree with is the fact that FEMA is more or less making their responsibility the responsibility of the private sector.  They are moving people from the FEMA-sponsored shelters to churches that are receiving NONE of the aid money that has been granted to FEMA until they or the individuals housing the homeless apply for this aid.  There are thousands of people who were already in shelters other than the Astrodome, but very few of these are receiving any substantial aid from FEMA unless approved.  The approval period could take 60 days, what are these people going to do in the meantime?  And a lot of these people in faith-based shelters are ones who have probably never taken a handout in their lives.  They should be included in the immediate relief as well and not have to wait 60 days to be approved for expeditious relief.

I don't work for this company, but all MTs need to be warned, and if he does not pay then we all should know it.  Some of us have a family to support.  What would happen if you worked and did not get paid when expected, - no groceries for the kids, no electricity, no phone.  I feel this is ALL MTs business even if they do not work for this employer (obviously not an employer) to be warned. So get off your high horse and come back to earth with the rest of us.

a while ago, but I can't find it now.  My computer's fan is running almost constantly today and I'm very concerned.  It is a Pentium with 504 MB that I purchased back in January.  I have added nothing to it except for the software the company I work for provides.  They required us to do a software update (the last time I did this, my computer crashed which is why I bought a new one in January) 2 days ago.  I'm praying that this computer is not going to go down the tubes as well. 


Would the MT that has this same problem let me know what happened with her computer?  If anyone else has any insight, please share.  I'm pretty frantic right now.  Thank you.
