Thank you Patty for taking the time to answer.

That is good advice, but I don't know if I can give them 30 days notice because another 30 days of them and I'll end up in a padded cell.  I'm thinking more like two weeks, which to me seems fair, especially considering if they found someone else to do the work for less, they wouldn't even give me a day's notice, right?

Thanks again!

Bless your heart for taking the time to answer.
I was thinking macros were something else. I make heavy use of templates/normals, but I didn't realize those were called macros :0)

Shorthand is so fantastic for that. I love the suggestion window, too. I don't think I could type without it now.

Do you use the TCL script program? I need to study up on that.
Keyboard Kelly - Many thanks for taking the time to answer all my questions.

I really do appreciate it.

Thank you for taking the time....

to share such good tips with all of us.

Thank you for taking the time to do that!
That is hilarious. These girls go into so much detail in their posts. I could read their stuff all night instead of watching TV. I don't know how they make this stuff up. This is great!
thanks for taking the time
For these tips.  I really need to buckle down and get my lines up, there IS money to be made but being at home and having the pain makes me slack lately.    But if you're doing as much as you are, then it makes me think its possible. Thanks again!  have a good night
I appreciate you taking the time here
I do know that not everyone involved with the church is a hypocrite, and that according to the faith all of us are sinners (I try to bear that in mind through my struggle in learning and understanding the religion). I just feel like for many people church is nothing more than a social event on their calendar, not to be thought of throughout the rest of the week. I believe that it would be more in line with Christianity to focus on God and what he does/would want all the time, and that not going to church does not disqualify one from being a Christian. Not saying it is not good to go to church either, just that you don't have to attend to be a true Christian.

Thanks again, I do appreciate insight from those who share it.

I am taking for second time in the last year
I took if for a while and was without insurance so had to stop for a bit. I am taking it again. I was previously on Paxil. My doctor said that Lexapro had way better withdrawal than Paxil. Paxil would "wig me out" if I missed a day. Lexapro has never done that and when I weaned myself off before I did not notice any major withdrawal symptoms. I also did not gain any significant weight and I am not skinny so believe me I did not want to gain any, lol. We are all different though, but that is my experience. Like I said, Paxil was way way worse on both.
Thanks all for taking the time to provide

a kind word and encouragement.  I know there are others much worse off and I know too I'll get through this.  This time of year has always been tough for me since my parents died and I've really been working on putting on a happy face for my family despite how I feel, but just couldn't do it today.

Thank you so much...I got it working now! I appreciate your taking the time to help out. nm

Again, thank you so much for taking the time to respond..sm
I thought I was on the right track, but I've only been an IC for five years and have never had my own accounts. I passed on your opinions to my MIL and hope she will listen. I'm leaving to go to California in a couple hours and there is no way I can do it personally, so I hope and pray she does. We really need the account.
Thank you ladies for taking the time to (sm)
respond with some very helpful information.  Can I ask one more question?  I notice in some reports there are {} marks after headings.  While this may be inherent to this hospital, I wonder if there is a "jump code" to get to each of those marks.  Thanks again.  BV
I so appreciate your taking the time to inform me of this.
:) I'd be lost without this forum. :)
Thank you for taking the time to post back....sm
I'm sure he must be depressed, and my brother also. I'll bring up the subject to him and see if I can make him see that they are really needing some outside help here, more than we can do just as family members.  You bring up a lot of good points.  Thanks again.
Taking time off without the worries is great

I think too many times IC's are treated like employees.  The OP is an IC and has a set schedule?   If you have a set schedule (no freedom), you should be deemed an employee and given PTO days, etc.  IC's should not be made to let anyone know anything.    Two weeks is an extended amount of time and out of courtesy she should let her "client" even if that is an MTSO know in advance that she will not be available to work those two weeks.  As for toting a laptop on vacation, not me!  The whole idea of a vacation is to relax and not have to worry about typing.  Most physicians do understand that you need a vacation.  They will cut you some slack.  Not sure about a two week period though.  Someone with their own accounts that wants to take off extended periods of time (more than one week) should probably find someone to "cover".    I have also found in this profession that transcriptionists do not trust others as they could try to steal their accounts if they were to take time off leaving the account in someone else's hands literally.  All the more reason to network and find someone trustworthy who will scratch your back and you in turn scratch their back when needed.  Tit for TAT so to speak but at a fair price.

TERRIFIC POST!!.....thanks for taking the time

Thanks for taking the time to respond nicely...sm
and to give me the good info. There are so many sour people on this board who it seems don't care about helping any fellow MTs.
Very good ideas! Thanks for taking the time to share.

TAKING A POLL-PUNCH TIME CLOCK
Who works for a company that requires you to punch a time clock?
opinion question regarding taking substantial time off

I am so burnt out that I am seriously contemplating just taking the summer off.  Does anyone have any opinions on how this would hurt me come fall and job searching.  I have a job at the present time working IC that I absolutely am not enjoying.  I have tried to give it some time but it has been since November and I have not fallen in love with the job yet.

I am wondering how will look on a resume in the fall to have a 3- or 4-month gap in my resume.  I have 8 years experience and I am sure I would have no trouble getting back in to it, perhaps with a refreshed attitude?  Has anyone done this, and how was the job search afterwards?

Thanks for any advice.

Hi Patty!
Posting yet AGAIN are you?  ROFLPIMP!

To the person giving the ShortHand tips - thank you very much for taking time to share!! nm

I agree with Patty on this. You read

any other material besides medical records, like a book, if it is under 10, it is written out.  That organization has too much power.  I cannot think of one thing they are good for.

Poor you, Patty. I can't imagine living off 20K a year!
That's poverty level.  You better do something, like up your line rates and quit running all over town picking up and delivering!  LOL
What irritates me is that people on here actually take the time to answer her

well, actually i had responded and given her the answer so it did waste my time. sm
if she was only doing "practice tapes", why try to be so perfect? Practice tapes to get an idea of the profession doesn't mean trying to find out exactly what each word is. i am not usually tacky on this board and don't like it when others are but i did consider that a waste of my precious time to help her when it sounded like she didn't need the definite answer just to get "an idea" of the profession and was most likely needing test answers. someone in the medical field should know those terms.
How fortunate that someone took the time to answer your question.
I was merely pointing out that it was possible that you don't need to spend the time or money to do all of that since I apparently wrongly assumed that you knew what you were doing. So much for the assumption that you were totally aware of all that the process involved. You're lucky that after reading your response to the original post that someone even wanted to bother answering your question.
clicking on your post to see an answer was a waste of time
nm
or, you could have not wasted our time and simply gave the answer.
nm
Amen! Amen! Amen. You have helped me this day, by taking out time to write such a post!
May God bless you tremendously.
A simple google search will give you your answer...I'd give you the answer,
but how would that help you learn to research on your own...and I'm in a rush to get to the next post.
LOL Thank you for taking that well -- I think
after I posted that I realized it might have sounded uptight. LOLOLOL

I just meant it to be a little more information than what the other person was giving -- which really gives an unfair picture!

Thanks!
Why are they taking anything? nm
:]
Yes, I will be taking him to the Dr.
tomorrow. He still has a couple more warts on his foot that the burning didn't seem to do anything to. I'm sure the doc will want to go ahead and remove them now. As for his toe, I'm sure it will have to heal before they can do anything to treat the wart..if it still remains. I want to make sure that the wound that was caused gets the proper treatment as I am quite concerned about infection at this point. Thank you for your advice. He's a real winner, eh?
I am taking out 20% of my pay
This is my first year being an IC. My accountant told me this should be enough based on what my husband's salary is. I will find out at the end of the year if I need to take more, less or the same. Good Luck.
What are you taking
Whatever it is, I want to ask my doctor about getting some. Its hard to be optimistic when you have to work so darn hard to make a living. I currently work two of these jobs just to make one decent living. Companies make it awfully hard to make more than 15.00/hr. I can't make it on that.
Could you try just taking on one to see how you like it?
Maybe do the part time vet so the work load wouldn't be too bad right away. I think it sounds like a great change of pace!
When I was still taking my course...

we only had one computer so I did all my practice reports on that one.  I had made up a few shortcuts in word and one was *be* for barium enema.  Didn't give it a thought until I was reading a paper my son had written and gotten back from the teacher and the phrase *barium enema* caught my eye.  No remarks from the teacher, so I don't know if she caught it or not.  BTW, the paper was on torture in the Middle Ages, so maybe the whole thing wasn't so far fetched!

not taking job seriously
I guess we all must have that problem. You know what is bad? When your husband doesn't even take your job seriously. My husband makes me feel like this isn't a real job. I am called lazy on a regular basis because all I do is sit at a computer and type all the time. That isn't work according to him. Well I told him you sit there for hours and type and see if you don't get tired. Plus not only do I do the MT work but all the housework because my husband thinks my job is so easy that he shouldn't have to help with anything. So tell me how some of your husbands take your job?
who's taking over?

I wonder if that is what the Native People said when the white man came and took over their country.

Taking job no
So if we announce the name, dozens of people apply to our company.  Our company overhires (mine does).  Then we are all fighting for work, there's not enough to go around, and I can't make money there any more.  We are sabotaging ourselves when we announce where the work is.
I did not say they were taking MTs to
I said they only hire QA from within the company. Therefore, QA candidates are hired to work MT then promoted once their skills are proven. Just because you have years of Quality Assurance experience with one company or even multiple companies, it does not automatically make you a good QA person. It could just mean that you are the best they could find at time that they had a position to fill.
I have seen people that held QA positions at nationals make atrocious mistakes because they had no concept of context or proper grammar or were lacking research skills.

Our QA department is exemplary with virtually no turnover, and I believe it is because they evaluate the knowledge of the prospective candidate through practical experience prior to placing them in a QA position.
You're taking this way, way too personally.
If you don't like it, ignore it.  People always criticize the mother.  Hey, at least she's not some bug-eyed  psycho broad lying to the authorities about being kidnapped by Hispanics.
Do it anyway. I have not had a break either, but am taking off 18-23 - sm
my mental health is more important than $. Going up to my dad's for a few days to celebrate Jen's last chemo (8/17), have her rest by the pool at his house, visit the Herr's plant, go to Dutch Wonderland, Philly zoo, etc. Just me and my 2 girls to have a little fun together...and for me to see my dad and my friends up in PA. Shouldn't be doing it money-wise, but tough, I know I deserve it and my kids too. We couldn't take a formal vacation due to Jen's chemo and some restrictions, so this is the next best thing. -- If you feel you can't take 5+ days off then do 2-3 and go out and do something. It will make you feel better.
Try taking Fish oil
Try taking fish oil but make sure it molecularly distilled to get all the impurities out of it like mercury. That really does a lot for depression and anxiety and try to cut caffeine and sugar out of your diet. I notice a huge difference with it. It's hard to believe but its true.
