Just FYI on my AAMT stance
If they are going to continue to tout themselves as representing MTs (which I do not believe they do, in the first place), they certainly should get the "American" off that title. I think they are a bunch of self-important pompous asses who have decided that they know best, they should be the leaders, they should make the rules, and they have no more intuition, education, intellect, or certainly insight than you or I do. I would say individuals such as yourself and I are certainly a cut above all that, having actually worked in the real MT world, struggled with businesses, and had our backs against the wall over offshoring and global marketing of this industry. (And I'm being nice, lol.)
What is your stance on giving notice? sm
I have a job that I have had since about the first of the year. I HATE IT. They run out of work, micro manage and make veiled threats. I feel that I work for them one more day, I am gonna die! The pressure is terrible and it has made me sick.
I went back to work recently for my last IC company. They asked me and I had missed the people and the work. They pay better than the above company and I want to work for them full time. We have all agreed to a very workable schedule and I am anxious to get started.
Do I give the first company notice, and if so, how much do I need to give? Would you walk out on a job? It would be burning my bridges behind me and I know that, but I don't think that first company has a bright future in transcription anyway. I am rearranging my schedule so that I can finish my Master's degree and get out of MT once I have my PhD in another 3-4 years, in any case. Perhaps a burned bridge is not all that important right now.
My health is suffering and I am having anginal pain again because of the job stress. I have not had a full night of sleep in about 4 months because I have been chasing work. I want out, but I want to do the honorable thing too. No, they would not give me notice if they wanted to get rid of me!
Tell me your opinions please.
Jeez Louise! I am speechless. What happened to her pro-US stance?
I dont know whether to laugh or cry.
Thank you to each and every one of you...and to the moderators
Thank you for letting my post stay up because today was just a really bad day, and I need to tell you that just reading what everyone had to say helped very, very much. I want to thank every one of you who has replied so far because every single one of you has really helped me get through this day, and given me thoughts to keep with me as I get through each day. Laura, I don't think that you're cold-hearted. I think it's like others have said, too - we do all grieve differently. I don't know why today has been such a bad one, but I am taking a lot of strength away from what you all have written, and I think I know more now that these "waves" that come over me are normal. I know that there is help out there...possibly medication for a time, grief counseling. I'll be seeing my FNP in a few weeks, and I'll bring some of these issues up when I'm there.
I just wanted to say thank you again for sharing your own memories and experiences with me, and just for showing thoughtfulness and caring. You've really carried me through a bad day and have made me feel...I guess not so much like I'm going off the deep end.

oops - sorry moderators....sm
I forgot NOT to mention a company....here's a repost....sorry...
I have been an MTSO for 9 years and an SE for almost 6. I have never been audited but I keep everything, all receipts, all invoicing, absolutely everything, just in case. The people I SE for take out taxes, which is a GREAT thing for me, and so I only pay taxes outright in April on my private accounts. In Florida, it's known as a sole proprietorship, where you can be the employer and the employee, and I think only THREE states allow this (but I'm not sure about that part-the latter 3 states). I hope never to get audited but it is in such great order and I can prove absolutely everything.
To summarize it,: We all agree that the moderators
are doing a great job and we can be happy to be given this forum where we can vent and find people who at least understand what we are talking about.
Thank you for all the compassionate input on all the boards and 'keep pushing da pedal.'..........

Coimbatore ready to spin a different storey

The Manchester of South India, Coimbatore, is still brimming with a lot of positive energy as far as the real estate scenario is concerned. The
city, with a population of 1.8 million people, has a few pan-India players in the real estate market but the 35-40 odd local developers are confident of staying in business despite the economic slowdown.
Though many are in the wait-and-watch mode, buyers are looking at this growing city as the place for long-term investment, especially on the residential front. Industry experts say majority of the buyers are from nearby cities like Chennai and Bangalore and non-resident Coimbatoreans and NRIs, who want to settle here post retirement.
The latest Jones Lang LaSalle India30 Real Estate Opportunities in Tier III cities identifies Coimbatore as one of the top 10 growing consumer markets. “Though Coimbatore stands low on current office market activity, the growing engineering and IT potential is sure to throw up opportunities for the real estate market in the next few years,” said experts.
“The prices are marginally down by 5-10% in Coimbatore but the situation will not worsen any further. Land prices are going up and construction costs have increased. We don’t see any downslide on price aspect,” said Omkar Mohan Sankar, a real estate developer in the city.
According to him, the city has perfect attributes such as excellent locale, ideally set in the footsteps of Nilgiris, pleasant climate and sweet Siruvani water. Further, it is an education and healthcare hub and the two industries are recession proof.
Though textile industry is going through tough times, work options are increasing as nearby districts such as Tirupur, Erode and Karur are fast catching the attention of world markets with their fashion products.
Also, with the entry of big players such as L&T and Suzlon in the engineering industry, more investment is expected in real estate market. “Once the companies look at increasing their work force, the requirement for housing would increase and the residential value in the city will go up,” said market sources.
State-owned Electronics Corporation of India’s Tidel Park in IT-SEZ is expected to be ready by January and is likely to provide employment to nearly 12,000 people, which means more residential space will be needed. The Wipro development centre inside the IT-SEZ is also nearing completion and more IT companies like TCS and HCL have plans here.
The city already has the presence of global engineering and IT giants like Robert Bosch and Cognizant and big IT & ITES players like Perot Systems and Spheris. “The city is looking at employing 20,000 more and even if 20% opt for new homes, there would be a demand for 4,000-5000 houses soon,” said Mr Rajesh B Lund, VP, Confederation of Real Estate Developer’s Associations of India.

cherrypicking co-worker issue (meant to post it on this board instead of MQ board) sm...
I need opinions please...I work on a very small account with just a handful of ladies. Because of the nature of the software (trying not to get too specific here) we can see who is working online and what reports they are working on in real-time...
We have one cherrypicker on the account. Instead of using FIFO method, she retrieves the reports by author ID - usually picking the better dictators of course. She knows I busted her and she did admit to it in on our work e-mail (not too bright) which I am saving just in case she gets out of hand - so far I'm still able to make money since really most of the dictators aren't bad.
But every night it's starting to wear on me since she's screwing up turnaround time. I don't really want to cause a big uproar being that it is such a small account and I need to work with her almost every night usually one on one.
What would you all do? I want to handle this as delicate and professional as possible because we can't really afford to lose anyone on this account. In other words, I refuse to stoop to her level by cherrypicking right back.
My boss has asked me several times why so-and-so does so much more than I do...I just bite my lip at that point but one of these days I think I might explode and just open up a can of worms....
Definitely one of the other board's people who refer to those on this board as "holy rollers,&

Job Board ???
What happened to the Job Board that was at the top of the Job Seeker's Board? I have not been able to find it for several days. HELP!
It has been said MQ has own board here,
nm
new to the board
Just wanted some insight I guess on what the whole field is about, i.e. hospitals versus working at home, etc. I know that sounds broad, but there is so much info on here, it's hard to grasp it all.
On this board is the first I have ever
heard of this ASR. So, everybody will be doing this?
You will never believe it according to this board
but I am out of Amherst. Obviously, if you run out of work, it is not the MTs fault, but if the work is there and you can't be productive, I think there is a problem with the MT. I do run out of work as well, but I have never been on this board complaining about it. I find different times to work when the work is there to get my lines in. It is as simple as that.
See job board
There was a job for veterinary ophthalmology listed on the job board late last week, but I think they required a fair amount of experience...
Welcome to the board! nm
x
Sorry if on this board you can't say
you've missed people. I will be back on later and I am sure, Happy MQer, one of you will too. I look forward to it! xx oo
Please.. what board are we on?
take it to your cronies.
I have only been on this board
a short time myself when things started to go bad. I feel it is an outlet for me because as I and others have stated MQ does not care and we want to speak to each other in some form.
I am not afraid of taking any leap. I am trying to stay with a company that I have been loyal to because I have been with them so long. I do not enjoy jumping from job to job. I do not like being treated this way and it only happened within the last couple of months.
There are no proper channels at MQ. I have tried, believe me.
I do have control over my life that is for sure and I know when I am being treated unfairly and now is that time. I will be doing something about it; but I need to find that other job. I just can't quit, cannot afford to, and who knows how long it will be before I can get started again all over.
I have 20 years experience and have never been treated like this so it is a bit overwhelming and unbelievable that it is happening. I expected to be with MQ until I retired. No such luck now.
I will be leaving this board soon but when people, not saying you, are nasty and do not understand what is going on it is hard to not respond to them.
