Test the shock on yourself first - here's why

Posted By: Scribbles on 2007-11-20

My friend put a shock collar on her dog without testing it - and the dog surely was quiet -- WHILE he was strangling to death on a trapped lead.

Frankly, using a shock collar is cruel and selfish - but if you must inflict pain to control your animals (versus just TRAINING them to be quiet!) at least test the shock on yourself to be sure its not stronger than you intend.

Here's one way to train a dog to be quiet - as told to me by a professional dog trainer: When my dogs were in their crate for the night - they would whine/bark for my attention. This trainer had me run out to the crate and bang THE CRATE and yell 'quiet' at the crate - not the dog.

I asked why does this work?

Answer: Would YOU want to invite (with barking) that crazy person back to your crate? Dogs don't like this type of noise - and they learn to associate barking with someone banging on their crate.

I had to do it just twice in one night- and after that just the command "QUIET" worked.

Shock
is more like it. U can definitely tell who the "favorite" is. Just makes me SICK, (excuse me while I vomit). Okay, better now. Sure hope for a new job soon. Have sent out plenty of resumes, anything has got to be better than this.
Yeh, I was in shock, how could they?
I guess this is the last season?  What an awful way to go out.  blah!
This was a shock to me.....
My DH works in public education and some stupid kids have gotten hold of his cell phone number and have made prank calls over the past few months.  They've blocked their number so we can't trace it.  The cell phone company can see the number but won't divulge it due to privacy rights.  Recently they've gotten our home phone number and have called a couple times.  Nothing threatening, just stupid kid prank call stuff.  Our home phone company doesn't record incoming calls, so no luck there either.  Last night I got a very WEIRD phone call late at night which was a text relay call from a computer, much like the TTY calls that the deaf make.  The relay operator just reads what it typed.  This call was vulgar and sexual.  We just hung up.  After a little research I find out that these relay calls are not recorded in any fashion, so you can not find out who made them.  The laws TOTALLY protect the privacy of the caller.  Even the police cannot trace them.  Can you believe that these operators have to relay ANYTHING under the umbrella of privacy, even death threats, not to mention sexual stuff.  I am in shock.  From what a read, it would take an act of congress to stop this.  It just seems like the criminal has all the protections and the victim has nothing.  Upside down world.  Have you ever heard of these relay calls?  I had not.
Yep, a big shock . . .
Should we take bets? Is he dead? I think not.
Wow!! I'm in shock...

I transcribed a Hospice note earlier today.  The patient is a 99-year-old woman with end-stage coronary artery disease.  She lives in adult foster care.  The caregivers at the adult foster care have a problem with Hospice for some reason and are threatening to raise this woman's rent by $1000.00 per month if she goes on Hospice.  UNREAL!!

Anyway, Hospice will contact the proper law enforcement agency if this happens as it is discrimination...but I just couldn't believe what I was hearing when I transcribed it.

Also in shock....sm
I thought it would be Chris as well, especially since he always seemed to have pretty good performances and reviews by the judges.  He is definitely the best singer.
shock value? nn
x
It is not a shock that they want their
employees to work their scheduled hours.
It's a test in progress to measure what MTs know and what type of test to give for the SM
different levels of MTs.  It's over $90.  That's a lot of money to pay to someone who is giving these tests for research as to what type of testing should be done for the different levels of MT.  The AAMT will probably take the results and make a test that they can give in India or the Phillipines or some other foreign country.
tuning fork test: Is it about a hearing test? .See inside
A whisper is about 20 dB
Loud music (some concerts) is around 80 to 120 dB
A jet engine is about 140 to 180 dB

Hope I could help
That was a shock until I listened
to a video by MSN.  Rumor has it that the show was fixed and Chris was going to win it - according to the judges, especially Simon.  In order to prove the rumor was wrong - bye-bye Chris.  Check on the video, it makes you wonder.  Catherine should have been voted off.
using shock collar
Be careful using that shock collar as it is negative reinforcement.  Dogs bark for a reason, learn to read their barks, could be warning of an intruder nearby, or something like a critter approaching their territory.  Get books on clicker use & treats.....they can learn words like "quiet", "settle".  Takes some time to train but worth it in long run.  I have 3 German Shepherds 2 outdoors in kennel, always keep 1 inside....wonderful deterrent.  They only bark when something is going on.
OMG! I was in shock for about 10 minutes first time I saw that!
Weird, but funny
Shock is abusing whether you intend it or not
and as to the better MANNERS challenge, what does that have to do with anything? You can have a well-mannered dog *without* painfully shocking it into submission.

Sometimes shock collars are what works.
If you aren't shocking your dog for the fun of it, you aren't abusing them. Would you rather the dog have to get its voice box removed? I've seen it for chronic barkers whose owners are cited for noice complaints when nothing else has worked.
You CAN NOT defend your use of the shock collar
THAT's why you may choose not to respond again.

Your "defense" above is stunning. No doubt you love your dog and take good care of him/her. But you ARE still using pain to control your pet when there ARE OTHER METHODS that don't involve pain.

Dismiss our points all you want - at the end of the day you chose to take the easy way out with regard to solving the barking problem.

WE who don't use pain to teach make YOU sick? Give me a royal break.

I posted a simple way to teach your dog not to bark - did you even bother to read it?
Not a medical typing test but this website can test you..

It's called www.typingtest.com

Atleast it will give you an idea.. Sadly, I had to take it twice before I passed it LOL

Why would they do a microalbumin test when she has the period? A lot of test s will come out wrong

Neer's test is a shoulder impingement test

Don't think that has to do with the knee.  How about "bucket handle tear" of the knee?  Never heard of Neer having anything to do with the knee.

not a shock - they were bought or joined up with Healthscribe
who has a huge office in India and does not make it a secret that they outsource. Healthscribe also got into a bit of trouble a couple of years ago for "altering" lines on US transcriptionists;
Shock collars are cruel on animals.
You can teach dogs not to bark without using shock treatments.

I dont use shock collars but do use a citronella collar
I have a big dog and know that people use what they know will work. Personally I have had some well meaning yet not very knowledgeable person stop me as I walk my very large dog and rip me a new SS-hole for using a prong collar. Note prong collars are very humane when used correctly.

Personally I would not use a shock collar but I have not done any homework on them either. I would be afraid of one of my children getting a shock or something like that however I am sure you have done your homework. BUT I would like to share what I have found that works. My dog wears a Citronella collar and it works wonderfully and with no danger to anyone else or himself. I have attached a link with a write up on them as well as a site that has them on sale if you are interested.

Again not trying to say your choice is wrong just offering another option you might not have considered. Hope you and yours have a wonderful thanksgiving.

I heartily agree with the other poster. You have the shock of your life coming SM

anyway, why involve children in it?

Honestly, good luck to you. But you can't take care of your kids and be a good transcriptionist, let alone make any money, not at first.

happens quite often i would test again or go see your GYN for blood test which is more accurate
nm
Yeah a 30 minute test---work for free, he gets enough to test, his work is done - nm

Or maybe that in itself IS the test! It's really an ethics test, LOL. nm

And a test

Wondering how many companies this is set up for....

HealthScribe, Avicis, Spheris, MQ, TRS, Medware, others?

You really should not be asking for help if this is a test sm
If this is a test for school or employment, it really should be done by you. It is not a fair test if someone else does it for you.  If this is not a test, please clarify and maybe people will help, but I think it is cheating otherwise.
test, this is only a test. nm

If this don't work, I'll quit.

If this is just a test then (sm)
why don't you just pick something...like @@@ or ??? or *** or something like that...leave it for where you find it inaudible, and when you send back your test just tell them. You could do ___inaudible___...anything. Just let them know when you send the test back. If you were actually working, then you'd go by the account specifics for how leave a blank, but for a test, just pick something appropriate and let them know.
We have to test because there have been....sm
too many times that people claimed they were transcriptionists, or could do a certain work type, only to find out they couldn't and were bluffing.  Testing is the only way to tell if an applicant has any knowledge or not.  Resumes don't always tell what their true skill level is.
That's the best way for a co to test you because they never know if someone sm
is having someone else take a written test for them. The best way to test and just as accurate as mega transcription tests is oral phone testing. That way, it comes from what is in the person's head of what they know
test
Don't feel bad....I've been an MT for 24 years, & failed 2 tests, but passed several others.

Yes, and it's $95 to test for it...

I cannot imagine what they will come up with next!  Obviously AAMT is in a crisis financially and is trying to dig their way out.  Why would anyone desire this bogus, worthless designation?

I'm thinking of offering  an "SMT" for only 10 bucks . . . and NO TEST!!!  What do you think???

Oh, what is "SMT?"  That would be Smart Medical Transcriptionist, of course!!!!

To test him I'd say

Gee honey, I'd don't want to disappoint the children again.  Maybe next time we'll suprise you instead.

I wonder what his reaction would be to that!

Okay. Just took this test - got a 136

TEST
I did a 3 EPT's all were positive with lines that were hard to read and yes the lines took a few minutes to show and a blood test at the doctors office which confirmed, by the time you spend money on pregnancy tests you can go to your doctor and pay a 10.00 copay and get a result... just an idea !!! I'm officially 7 weeks !!!!!
Probably a different test.
AAMT likely won't flunk many of them. They wouldn't want to scare away the hordes of potential buyers of their BOS and CMT certification.
Who can take CMT test?

I am just curious if I live in Canada, would I be allowed to take the CMT test ? or is it just strictly for american MT's? Would it benefit me as a IC ?

Tanks

CMT self-test

I just took the 60-question self-assessment test. A passing grade is 51/60.  After 16 years of acute care experience, I got 43/60 correct.  That blows my mind!

I'm asking myself 'who needs this' ???

We can't help you take a test. You just have to do the best you can.
That's all any testee can do. After all, we aren't applying for the job. They expect you to leave blanks where you can't get something.
just a test to see if I can get

a post to go up here.  Last time I tried, I messed up royally somehow.

JUST A TEST
X
before you test
Purchase Stedman's Ophthalmology Words before you test.
It is one test....
They give you a 6-hour allowance for the entire sitting.

You go in, give your ID, are shown to your test computer, given brief instructions on headset, etc.

Sign into the test site on the computer. Take a little instructional demo and practice. When you're ready, you start the test.

First, just questions (objective portion), like 120 or so of them. Multiple choice mostly (maybe all of them are mx choice - I can't remember now, lol).

When you complete that part, you get to review any you marked for later review, answer them, verify all of your answers and submit that part.

Computer asks you if you want a break. Take it or not. Start the performance part.

Performance part is about 60 (I think, geez - my memory now, lol) snips of dictation where you either transcribe the whole snip, fill in a blank on transcription provided for the snip, or listen to the snip and decide which pre-transcribed piece is more accurately typed. A few have no snips to listen to -just choose the correct transcription (look at spelling, punctuation, grammar, medical terms, etc.).

Then you're done.

Took me 1 hour and I missed 2 on the entire exam.

try this little test
Try this test. Put your thumb in your fist, and then try to move your fist laterally while holding your arm and wrist straight. If you get a shooting pain, then it could be DeQuervain's tenosynovitis. I have that and I wear a neoprene glove at night that just has a thumb in it and no fingers. You can check out the symptoms of it online. Hope it helps.
