Terminated
I worked full-time for a group of docs for over 26 years, the last few being only as a contingent as I had officially "retired." But I covered all vacations, sick days, etc. It was a great part-time job. But I had to go in every day as we were still using tapes. The company got a new system and decided I was out. . . without even asking or telling me. And to think I was their ONLY Transcriptionist for years and years until they got so big they hired about 7-8 more transcriptionists. I tried working for several small companies but didn't get much work as they also were having a bad run of luck!
Today, January 21st, I finally decided to forget transcription. I sold my wav pedal and will sell my other stuff. It took me a long time to get to this point because I truly love transcription. . . .but you don't get paid for what you do and know. I had to purchase lots of my own equipment even though I worked for this company and was a salaried employee. Talk about cheap! That gets old and I finally decided enough was enough.
I love sewing. . . perhaps I'll go to Joann's and work for $7-8 an hour????
Good luck to you. Frankly, I personally believe transcription is definitely going down the tubes and will be similar to drafting, which my husband did, and is now an obsolete career. Already there is the techology that allows the docs to dictate, the words magically appear on the computer and all that will be needed are a few people to sit and proofread this stuff by the hour. How boring! Not to mention very "unlucrative." I just LOVE that made-up word! LOL!
Again, good luck to you in your job finding endeavors!

So sorry to hear about the loss of your job. I got sick of transcribing hassles years ago (I worked in doctors' offices). Then one day, I saw an ad for a medmal law firm who was looking for a Transcriptionist to train in legal. I got the job and have been working happily as a medmal legal secretary ever since. I hope that helps!
Not sure about if terminated
but I drew unemployment very briefly after Hurricane Katrina because I couldn't work for awhile...had to relocate to a place where I could get broad band service (everything was just a mess). I was an SE at the time. First I had to fight to even get the umempl..which I finally did get a little..like a little under $600. Then I had to pay it back with interest (because according to State, as an SE I wasn't eligible). They should have just told me upfront it was a loan! Check with your state before counting any chickens. Good luck to you.

I don't know if any one out there have been in my situation, but I need some feedback. I was terminated from my job today because of production circumstances and they said that they would give me time to make my line count but obviously did not. I was just getting started and been with them since the 10th of last month. I am having a hard time dealing with this. Could some give me some insight to whereas dealing with this loss. I have a family to support as many of us do but I could really use some help. I have 2 years of experience and I needed to be pointed in a good direction from here. Also the company pay once a month and I have not got paid yet from last month.
If you were terminated for a
reason other than no work or low work, why would you even consider applying? They are going to have your information, so why even go through the humiliation?
#1 - Why?? #2 - If they terminated you,
why would they rehire you?
Contract terminated because got a second job
Have any of you had your contract terminated? I just need to vent b/c it really ticks me off. I have been working for this place and was not making any money. The most money I have made in a 2-week period with them is $300. They just do not have any work. Every time I expressed concern about my lack of workload, they would just respond with it is a little slow right now. They asked me did I need more work assigned, and I told them yes, and I actually started receiving less work. They were a small company so the work was not in a pool. You had to wait until the administrator decided to assign you a job. So I felt trapped within my house every day having to stalk my email to see if work had been assigned. I could not make any plans. I also felt that I got the worst dictators. I finally got fed up with my lack of money and got a new job with a larger company which so far have been wonderful. I emailed the other company to advise them I had gotten a new job, but would still like to work with them on a part-time basis and told them the amount of work I would like to receive. I did not receive an email back showing that she had even acknowledged me. I had training today from 11:30 to 1:30. She had assigned me a job this morning that was due by 1:53 today. I emailed to advise that I had a prior appointment and would not be able to complete the job and to please reassign. I receive an email back stating my contract had been terminated. That just ticks me off so bad. I was going to terminate my contract anyway once I had been working with the new company for maybe a month or so, but I wanted to be the one to terminate the contract. She did not state a reason for terminating my contract which I know she does not have to, but I really think it is because I told her I had gotten a second job. Anyway, I just really needed to vent some. I would love your comments on this situation. Thanks!
Can a statutory employee draw unemployment if terminated from job due to restructuring of company?
