Ants are drawn to water and some ants sugar/grease.
We have had professional exterminators and it didn't phase them. Get Terro. You are more likely to find it at Home Depot/Lowes than at the grocery store. I got traps this year, put them in the places where we had the biggest problem with ants and they are gone, gone, gone. You can mix sugar and borax with water to dissolve it and then soak cotton balls in it and place around too. I haven't tried this, though lots of people I know have said it works.
We had ivy growing up one side of our house and the exterminator told us to get rid of it and that would help, we did and it didn't.
I do this job with young children around and neither my job nor children have suffered...
It can be done...
Ants
California has the most ants I have ever seen in any other part of the country, LOL. Its amazing. My cousin in Brooklyn told me to put Bounce sheets and bounce liquid wherever ants are and they will not cross it, they will be gone. Well, I bought the Bounce sheets and put them under my cat and dog bowls as my cats and dogs do not eat all right away, they like to leave the bowls half full and come back later which means millions of ants in their bowls. The Bounce works pretty good. Has to be a fresh sheet under the bowl each day. Also I finally bought the Bounce liquid and poured a little around the bowl and repeat it each day. Seems to keep the ants away out here in the desert..and let me tell ya, nothing keeps these ants away. Last year I had two lizards, they were my pets. They were in their tank and the next day I opened the tank and ants had gotten into the tank and they were dead with hundreds of ants eating them. My sweet lizards. What an awful site. I hate ants..
Ants
My best weapon so far for ants in the house is my stupid cat! He loves to swat at them, then play with them for a bit, then dinner time. He's always been a bit off lol.
ants
you know spring is here when the ants arrive!
Go to a catalog online for GARDENS ALIVE. They sell safe ant "killer" for less than $10.00. It's some kind of goop they eat and take back to nest to share with others. Works for me every spring!
Ants
Go to Walmart and buy Terro (sp?). You place a drop of it on a piece of the cardboard of the box it came in. We had a serious problem with ants and this is what we used. The ants would line up to eat it and take it back to the colony. After a week, they were all gone.
Ants
Try Terro Ant Baits. It's a liquid bait that they have to crawl into and they carry it back to the rest. You just let the ants run in and out of the bait and don't disturb them, but sometimes for a bad ant infestation it takes about 3 weeks. They are extremely attracted to the bait and it works really well. It will get rid of the entire bunch. I don't know where you live but I usually find them at Walgreens, Walmart, True Value Hardware stores, etc. Good luck!
Ant? As in ants? - try boric.....nm
ants remedy
I know this sounds ridiculous, but it works. Used to have terrible ants, especially around by cat bowls because cat food contains protine which ants like. Found this on line. Simply use laundry dryer sheets - they hate the smell. Also bay leaves from the spice department. It works too.
ants on the table
I have heard that if you have ants and can't get rid of them you also have termites. Hate to scare you, but you might want to hve it checked out to be sure. I worked for us at one place we lived. Good luck, hope it is nothing bad.
Lots of ants this year
We have a ton of ants in our potted plants on the patio. We're moving and don't want to move all the ants with us when we go. Any suggestions on how to kill the ants but not the plants?
ants on the kitchen table
Anybody else have a problem with ants on the table. We even fogged the house, used raid and still they come back. Any suggestions?
Trick for keeping ants off picnic tables
I know you're asking about anywhere but when we would have picnics, we would use old tuna or catfood cans and wipe them all over, inside and out, with vegetable oil or mineral oil and then set the legs of the table in them. The ants couldn't climb the slippery outsides of the cans to get onto the table. It really worked.
You might try looking up the types of birds and beatles that eat ants and keeping a few natural predators around the flowerbeds.
Pets
I encourage you to stay with your pet in your home. If you are stupid enough to put animals above the welfare of humans, we, the rest of the human race, can do without you.
I do not want to be exposed to someone's animals with their ticks, fleas, dander and fur while I'm trying to ride out a storm in a shelter.
You have no right to inflict your animals on me. I do not want my tax money going to feeding and housing someone's pets (unless they are a helping animal, like a "seeing eye" dog or one of the dogs and monkeys that help disabled people.
You idiot animal lovers who put your pets before people need to put up the money to build/rent your own shelters for animals and leave the rest of us out of it.
There is a forum for Pets under
If there is a board for a particular topic, the topic is supposed to be taken to that board. I will be emailing the Administrator.
Anyone have pets that pester more than sm
the family, phone or doorbells? I swear my 2 dogs have it in for me today. I didn't take them for their 1/2 hour walk this morning and now they are being absolutely horrible. Won't leave me alone for anything. Yikes, what a mistake. Yep, this is the absolute worst they have ever been. One at the door staring at me and the other under the desk pawing my leg. I've skipped the walk for 2 days now. Tomorrow I won't and I bet they leave me alone! Shame on me. Full moon maybe?
neglected pets
...funny you should bring that up. I have been so
busy with school and work, my normally sweet cockatiel birds have been monsters!! I have a large office and a couple of months ago they decided they wanted to stay there so I moved in there. What a pain! They sense when I'm stressed and rushing. That's when the screaming starts. I had to leave my office for a half hour, and when I came back, the new telephone cord was chewed off, my papers were chewed and shredded, and one bird was shredding my reference books!!! They are so demanding. If I don't pay attention to then for a half hour before I start working, I will pay dearly!!! But I do so love them!
Yes, bonuses are reserved for the pets, not
based on cooperation, quality, or anything else, just whether your team leader thinks you are wonderful and so does Deb, but if you are on Deb's list, you get nothing, so just stay quiet in your corner and say nothing or she will slam you.
family pets while working
Have a chair behind my work chair and I HATE when at 2-3am, my cat wants my attention and all of a sudden I feel this "tap" on my back..no one else here but me but I swear everytime he does that it scares me to death lol
Katrina's Displaced Pets
As most of you know by now, lots of the evacuees are refusing to go because they don't want to leave their pets behind. For all you you pet lovers out here, I've found two sites that are trying to help out in this area that I thought I'd pass on...

Has anyone ordered pet meds from Entirely Pets?
My dog has Cushings and is on $200.00/mo worth of meds and we are going broke between them and the $1000.00/year testing needed, not to mention shots, etc. We are paying about $80.00/month for one medicine. I found it at Entirely Pets for $32.00/mo - a big savings. The package they show is the exact same as what we get from the vet, the dosage and the # of pills is also the same. I read the description and it doesn't say anything about it being a generic or anything else that would raise a red flag. I checked this med at 1800PetMeds and it is $60.00/month there.
I'm going to ask my vet tomorrow what she thinks. I don't think she'll have a problem with me getting meds from another source but I'd like to hear feedback from an outside party too.
Just stayed at Drury, they allow pets.

I have Mohawk and it does great with our pets...sm
It's neither the cheapest nor the most expensive carpet. Look around your area for a discount place as you can oftentimes find name brand carpets at a reduced price due to overstocks, discontinued items, etc.
I so hoped they would. I felt for that little boy and others who had to leave their pets.
.
Not to mention extremely dangerous for your pets - sm
especially the flea collars, shampoos, etc. Totally agree. Awful products. Should be banned completely.
Better yet, keep your pets indoors in a/c and out of parked vehicles. nm

I actually hope these innocent pets get homes more than I care

I wish more people would spay, neuter and take care of the pets
they've already got instead of expecting everyone else to deal with their problem. I get tired of the loose animals running around our neighborhood. People just dump their animals because they can't be bothered to care for them. We've got hundreds of cats running around having kittens all over the place. The kittens wind up feral. My pets are "rescues", but I can't take on any more. I won't, either. It's like kids. Don't have more than you can properly take care of. Don't expect me to take care of the problem you created either.
They are giving good stuff to pets and newbies, and if you
gave them your blood for a year they think they can walk all over you.
I do dog sitting but screen owner and pets carefully. I won't take just anyone.
:)
It is amazing how pets really become real members of the family, isn't it?
Gotta lov'em! :-)
As per your request, Pets and Entertainment forums have been added.
When pets are not confined or supervised, things like this should not be a surprise. nm

Yes, good parents have nannies for their little pets, kiss their brothers
like they are boyfriends, keep vials of their ex-boyfriend's blood, bounce from relationship to relationship, and break up marriages. Not that Brad is without blame there, but married is off limits. AJ's own father has voiced concerns over her mental status.
Dinner and pets aren't the same as a medical emergency. Capiche?

Its HOT, folks. Give water 2 pets and check on elderly!

Good for you, I love people who rescue homeless pets. I take in cats myself

Never an easy decision ... you have my sympathy. Pets are part of the family ... hurts to lose them

Yes, I'm sure an any problem always involves hundreds of ants, but it's still an ant problem.
How funny.
Both of my children, now 23 and 24,
bought their own cars and neither of them had a new car. I don't think it hurt them, either. They both were proud of the fact that they did buy their own cars and I was proud of them, too.
Wow that's a lot! We have 4 children and
we probably will not spend that much on all 4 of them. Glad you can afford it.
May you and your children have the
Merriest Christmas ever! As the Christmas carol sings "God is NOT dead nor doth He sleep." I am so happy your children will have Santa Claus this Christmas, and that you feel loved!! That's what Christmas is all about. I thank you... Merry Blessed Christmas to ALL!
I have 5 children and have had many a
I agree, something for myself would have been neat. My absolute favorite thing was when someone brought me something special, like something they made or had made for my baby. Those are really the things I remember when thinking back on my showers, and the things I still have today.

And what did your children get?

I definitely think having children has something
Does she have other children who can help
relieve some of the care? Does her insurance pay for ANY nursing care? I know what you mean. We were all on shifts as well. Is there a GOOD home she could go to? Even one that isn't a nursing home per se, but adult foster care? My grandmother lived in one. It was very nice and had less than 10 residents and people with various types of needs lived there. My aunts and uncles decided to do this (it was self pay) because they figured if she lived with any one child, that the responsibility probably wouldn't end up being shared by all, and this way they were all responsible for her even though she lived separately from them. Is there a hospice/nursing agency that can offer free or cheap respite care? How about through their church? Even if they could get an evening or a few hours away together, that's a start. They need to preserve their marriage too.
think of your own children if you have any....sm
Would you want them to have to care for you? All I want for my children is to be happy. I would never want to put that burden on them and, believe me, it is a burden regardless of how you feel about your parents. Caring for an ILL elderly parent can be a nightmare. Caring for an elderly parent is totally different. I've had to do both and, BTW, so did my parents. My mother, when in her 50's, now 92, made me promise to never try to have her live with me. I have done the same with my children. I do everything I can to help her including bringing her to my home to care for her when she is ill or has had recovery from surgeries. I don't think the "Waltons" is a realistic plan in this day and age. If you want to destroy your marriage and stress your children, move your parents into your home.
If you have children under a certain age...
...you can be excused for years from jury duty by submitting a copy of their birth certificates to the court.
Currently, I'm a single parent with 2 kids in elementary school. I have been excused from jury duty twice now; once when I lived in PA and both kids were just babies and again recently excused from serving or being called to serve here in NY for a few more years by submitting a copy of the birth certificate.
The courts will not force a primary caregiver with minor child(ren) to serve as long as you provide them a copy of the birth certificate.
I would think this also applies to anyone who is a sole caregiver of a chronically ill or elderly family member, but you would have to call your courthouse to find out for sure.
We are not children and by that I mean...
we don't have to go crying to the moderator whenever we feel someone is being mean. I think MT30+'s biggest sin is she's just blunt. Personally, I appreciate straight forward people. I don't have time to pick through all the fat to get to the meat. And, of course, I am one of the blunt people.
I think some need to simply grow up. You can't spend your life kissing your perceived boo boos and tattling on the "bullies." Momma always said the only way to get rid of a bully, is to stand your ground and take your lumps. And don't hold a grudge. Just move on.
