to be. I never check any reports I do, do spell check and it goes. I do not believe even when first starting I reread any reports. I had ShortHand in school (yeh that long ago) and I can almost on full speed keep up with every dictator I do because hearing and typing and keeping the new in the background really helps me. Like I said unless you are typing and fast, most places are not giving raises, lowering the price for us and overall the business has gone downhill.

that my Word client was corrupted. The tech at Dictaphone says it happens now and again with Microsoft (oh really??). She rebuilt it and did made some adjustments.

My three dogs take turns....
It's annoying but kind of cute. One is a puppy and chewed through two DSL phone cords before I caught on....the part husky always catches cords and the whole computer will jerk around on my desk....third dog is dainty and careful.

Foot pedal turns off headphone
jack. Speakers work fine. If I reboot and don't use the pedal, the headphone works. Any ideas?

Need Company that Turns Telephone Dictation into WAV/DSS Files
Hello,
Can anyone recommend a good company that will take my client's telephone dictation and convert them into WAV or DSS files that I can then access and transcribe?. A company that has good pricing and is reliable. I probably won't have a huge volume to start. Thank you.

We actually takes turns going downstairs to "play" usually. My husband doesnt like gambling as
watch a movie or something. I normally wait until they go to bed before I go downstairs as I'm a night owl and hubby is not. During the day, I take our son swimming etc..and let dad have fun. We just alternate basically and also some of the hotels offer babysitters for a fee and I believe MGM Grand has a kid's program or at least they did. Some day we hope to be able to get a nanny that can travel with us. We have gone on a few cruises also with our son and he loves that so that is how we normally spend our vacations with him. We go Carnival as they have an excellent kid's program. We're travelers and now our son is..getting hard though because when he asks about vacations he says, "are we going to Hawaii, Bahamas, or Carribean." I can remember growing up having NO vacations. vacation was just getting out of school for the summer. Probably setting the bar too high.. LOL .Yeah, it also occured to us that we'd be like 60 or so before he is out of school and since we've been raising kids forever..we decided we wanted to take vacations with them and before we're too old to enjoy it..None of that wanting until retirement to travel for us.. We know people who put off "living" until they retire and then they cant take heat, walking long distances, or just having fun!! Our motto..Have kids.. will travel..LOL

You clearly stated in your post that you ship the kids off to camp all day, and they're TIRED AT NIGHT!! You know exactly what you said. You said it as a PERK - AS IN GREAT! They're gone all day, it wears them out, and so I shovel dinner in their mouths and off to bed! You can try to paint it any way you want, but YOU SAID IT. Again, I only hope your kids never hear you speak that way or write that way. Shame on you. Why have kids at all? Just another parent who has them, gets rid of them for day AND night, BRAGS ABOUT IT, and then calls ME wicked! Give me a break! Camp is fine - its WHAT YOU SAID AND YOU KNOW IT. Your own words showed your heart. Period.

When you have two young kids, 11 months apart, (like I stated they are now 4 and 5) and have been doing this since they were born with no help from their father and no family around, YES, the kids get neglected. Part time might work but living on one salary, part time, is not an option. How can you possible tell me that anyone with two young kids can stay at home and work a full-time, 8-hour shift, and still give their kids the attention they NEED. I dont care how good you are at multitasking and how great your organizational skills are. It is a very difficult thing to do. And I am offended by your post making it sound as if it is easy to do.
I do agree that it can depend on how well your kids behave and how well they are able to play on their own. But my kids were not able to play well on their own. They needed constant attention.
So please take the time to realize that there are people out there in different situations than your own.
Reading our posts should help you to understand that everyone has a different situation. I believe everyone should have the right to shares their experiences as it might benefit the original poster in her questions and concerns.
I dont think anyone should be bashed for taking the time out to write about their experiences. I dont usually come on here to argue but you really ticked me off with your post. And try reading the post correctly. I said next time around I would have put them in day care. What I DID do with them was set them up to an activity like art or put on a movie for them. Geez.

You're in no position to buy right now. Keep saving, keep paying down your bills, and for heaven's sake get rid of that dead weight of a BF you're living with. You can do better.

I don't have kids, but my Mom was from the "old school," and still had everyone, kids inclu
call her by her first name. The little neighbor girl next door from the time she could speak called her Aggie (my mom's first name), and they were great buddies until the day my mom pased away.
I don't think there really is much in a name, but more in the respect you are given and the way you are treated. Personally, I kind of cringe inside when someone calls me Ms. Anything or God forbid, "maam" (makes me feel like Methuselah!) ... I'm always just plain Merrie. :-)
But, as someone pointed out, to each his own. If you want to be addressed a certain way, you have that right, and people should respect that. I'm glad you corrected the child ... hope it "sticks." 
Please do not simply give up, kids or no kids!
Talk with a professional. This can be worked through if he really puts forth the effort and you participate. The right counseling can truly make your marriage even better than it was before, if BOTH parties are willing to be honest. Give it a try. Nothing to lose at this point and everything to gain!

I am struggling tremendously myself and working many, many hours to get my quota. But like yourself, I have got to have the insurance. It is so frustrating, but I will do what I have to do - and that has been a lot of praying here lately!

are not still doing any work for her. If you and she live in the same area, I would pay a friendly visit. It's very easy for people to ignore emails. If you speak with her face to face, even if she is unable to pay you during your first visit. She will find a way to get your money if she knows that you will come by again. I would continue to drop by occasionally and just say, I was doing a pick up in your area and thought I'd stop by to check the status of a few outstanding invoices. It couldn't hurt.

I've never worked for a National - they turned me down years ago which was a blessing. Sent out letters to 75 local docs and now work for 3 at .15/line. Have you tried doctors in your community? Have to buy my own medical but still well worth it!

MQ is "rewarding" me for my dedication and expertise by routing the longest reports and foulest dictators to me simply because "You're the only one who can do them - you should feel complimented." I'm paid by the report so no matter how much I am paid - I'm screwed. Your post gives me hope that there are companies out there that don't operate like this. Thanks!

I don't exactly agree. I think the best MTs, those that save MDs the most time, have the best chance of continuing to work in this field. I found a job in RADIOLOGY, for goodness sakes, and because the MDs are confident that reports I produce make sense (and these particular MDs actually care) so that they can concentrate on their other work, I believe they will keep me around. I think the MTs with large vocabularies (especially for the dying language of ENGLISH), will be able to find work for years to come. Make sure you continue to educate yourselves and don't daydream while transcribing just because you've done this for 20 years and know all the terms. When you are not valued in one job, look for a place where they DO care about quality. It helps to be where the MDs can talk to YOU instead of a medically uneducated supervisor. Just my experience.

Well, 3 is what we have...hope that is
it! She seems to be doing ok with them so far...she is so young we were worried about her, but so far so good! We live in the country, cats get dumped here all the time..so unfortunate because not all cats can survive as some people think. We live on a very heavily traveled road, there are coyotes, and other hazards for them to avoid! We will keep her and her babies, actually have someone who wants one of the kittens. Mom will get spayed ASAP, babies when ready. We also have 7 other cats, all male, who were stranded out here also, they are getting neutered next week. We have a barn cat/feral cat program in our county so it is a reasonable price for spaying and neutering, plus I am hoping to get a quantity discount!

My other two pregnancies were totally different. I had energy throughout the entire nine months. However, this is the first pregnancy that I am actually working from home so I believe that is the difference.

Some expert already e-mailed me with a site that has treatments people have tried for this in case that's what mine turns out to be. Apparently there is a long incubation period between the appearance of the sores and the worms popping out of the skin. Lovely, right?
I cannot imagine being the first people to get this disease and having nobody who had ever heard of it. I would have assumed I was nuts and would have had myself committed.

My husband ordered a Dell and there were 3 packages that came, the first was a very small 1 that had some wires in it plus ?? The next 2 were bigger boxes. The smaller package was opened and I have misplaced. I called Dell last night and they did not know what was in the first. He bought off 1 of the shopping channels. Do you know by any chance if you got a little box first and was it absolutely essential for running the Dell? I am in BIG trouble I think if I don’t find. Thanks!

I just hope...
that since the Indian MTs are reading this board and seeing what the US MTs are charging, that they may up their rates - especially once they realize that while we can just pop up a civil suit for payment (pain and if judgment proof, you're also out legal fees), but they don't even have that recourse. I wouldn't even so much mind the offshoring IF we were on a level playing field. Anyway, just hope that they are beginning to realize that the more they undercut us in cpl, the more likely they are to get more of the "sharks", too, but that they have basically NO legal recourse, which is only further encouragement for the predators to deal overseas, leaving us with more work from the reputable MTSOs. When they started this "price war", I don't think they foresaw the pitfalls, and while I hate seeing anybody (US or Indian) stiffed, it will hopefully awaken them to the fact that undercutting prices does nothing but hurt everybody in the field in the longterm, and I really don't believe that the new Pres is going to be able to make large strides in this area, regardless of who is elected, as I don't see it passing congress, though I could be pleasantly surprised.
Is there hope for me?
I have been an MT a little over a year. I have multiple acute care accounts ... some easier than others, but usually get a lot more of the ones that slow me down. I have many dictators and still haven't typed for all of them to date.
With all the various things that I see as a problem from night to night (tired, foggy brained, fumble fingers, etc.) From what I can tell, it mainly comes down to the report content and which dictators I happen to get that determines how many lines I can type.
I have trouble with some dictating in a goofy rhythm, changing their minds continuously, saying things in the wong place (and having to figure out where I should put it), being just plain difficult to understand, etc. (Also getting a bunch content I am not familiar with and having to look a lot up.) I know time and experience is a big factor, but I have been told by an authority figure in the company that many people are faster at this point into their career.
I just don't know how to get past all that and have a consistent line count, and I am losing all motivation when day after day my line count is pathetic.
I use lots of expansions and tweak them when I see a better way. I am at a loss here and would love any helpful, ecouraging advice.  Thanks!

I would definitly hope that you are wrong considering the tons of us who are currently in school to get into this profession. I have found that for every person here that is unhappy with the world of MT, and looking to get out, I meet 3 more who love their jobs and aren't concerned with the future. I don't doubt that things will change drastically in the next 5 years, I just don't see there never being a need for MTs. I hope that you find yourself much happier in your new venture. Decorating cakes is fun!!
