Speedtype is also the exact same program as Shorthand, but Speedtype is a lot more expensive.
SpeedType AND ShortHand both come with a converter file that will import your AutoCorrect entries to either program. You do not have to pay Betsy to do that unless you flat can't figure out how to do it. It's not at all hard to do. Productivity Talk has posts that even tell you how to do it -- for FREE.
SpeedType and Shorthand are the exact same program. Shorthand is lots cheaper and also has a trial.
.
Shorthand and SpeedType are exact same program. Shorthand will cost you lots less.
you can import your autocorrect into Shorthand.
SpeedType and Shorthand are the exact same program.
SpeedType is just a different brand name and costs a whole lot more.
You cannot import into AutoText. You can copy your spf dictionary into Word and then you'll have to create the AutoText entries one by one.
Save yourself some $$ - Speedtype and Shorthand are the exact same program.

Shorthand and Speedtype are the exact same program, just sold
under different brand names. ShortHand does have a trial version.
Yep, in Shorthand & SpeedType since they are the same program.

Smartype or Speedtype free?
Does Smartype work just like ShortHand or any of the other expanders? Is Speedtype the same as Smartype or any of the other ones too? I would like to try before I buy. Thanks
Is Speedtype the same as Shorthand?
Thank you so much for this info. Is Speedtype the same as ShortHand or is it the same as another expander? I know there are two that are the same and one is cheaper. I am looking for the Expander that lists the expansion suggestions next to the cursor so I do not have to look at the bottom of the monitor all of the time. I am not lazy really lol I just need to bring up my production. Thanks again
It is SpeedType, which is the same as ShortHand, which is
spf compatible I believe.
It looks exactly like Shorthand and SpeedType.
It expands with the spacebar and punctuation. You do have to make up your own shortcuts and you can have more than one dictionary file, but you can't have duplicate shortcuts like you can with Instant Text. All of these programs are better than AutoCorrect because there is no limit to the number of shortcuts (there is with AutoCorrect), and it works in most programs instead of just Word.
You'd have to download the trial to figure out whether or not you like it.
What is the difference between Shorthand and SpeedType?
Hi I've been using ShortHand for a couple months now but I just downloaded the trial of SpeedType to check it out. It seems that the two are EXACTLY the same! How is it possible for two different manufacturers to have the exact same program? It looks the same, all the functions appear to be the same. This is really bizarre.
I must be missing something. Are there ANY differences between Shorthand and SpeedType? If so, what are they? Why would someone pay twice the price for SpeedType if it is exactly the same?? Thanks.
Can someone tell me how Speedtype compares to Shorthand?
nm
That's because SpeedType is just a retail version of Shorthand. :)

Yes, Speedtype is overpriced retail version of Shorthand.
They are the exact same program except that Speedtype charges you for every list you want to import. Shorthand gives you the same conversion file with the program. The Productivity Talk forum has super tips for using Shorthand and other expanders. http://www.productivitytalk.com/forums/index.php
No, there are absolutely no differences between Shorthand and Speedtype except the price.

See inside for a great website for using ShortHand/Speedtype.

Go to forums and scroll down to commands/glossaries/dictionaries then ShortHand Commands. Hope this helps.
Speedtype is retail version of Shorthand at a much higher price.

I have used both Smartype and Shorthand - sm
I like them both, but Smartype has a lot preprogrammed into , i.e. drug names, syndromes, diseases, etc. With ShortHand and autocorrect, you have to program it all in. You can find lists on-line though and download them into Shorthand and combine all your dictionaries which is a very nice feature. Smartype only allows you to chose 1 dictionary and you cannot merge or import lists in, only enter things 1 at a time into the dictionary you chose to use (your own or theirs). I think there is a distinct advantage though to using a word Expander especially if you are not a fast typest. Shorthand is reasonably priced and MTStars sells something compable to Shorthand called Flashtype which I believe is even cheaper. Plenty of options, just need to pick one to fit your pocketbook. There is InstantText too, but that is pricey too (same as Smartype).
Smartype into ShortHand? How?
Regarding pulling all my abbreviations over into ShortHand, has this worked for anybody, even for all the SmartBlocks? If so, could you please tell me how it was accomplished? I'm sure many of us would like to know. (I have also posted this below in answer to "I don't think you understand what a SmartLine is.")
As I understand it, you cannot pull txt file abbreviations out of Smartype (Windows version), because Smartype (Windows version) is in a machine language, and ShortHand will not import machine language; it will only import txt files of various kinds.
Any thoughts on this matter?
Thank you all for any help you can give.
ShortHand and Smartype
Between the two, did you get your speed back quicker with SH or ST?
Also, how did you ever get used to Smartype. I was down to a snail's crawl with that program.
shorthand and smartype
I got my speed back quicker with shorthand. I really do not use the Smartype like I used to, as I am typing radiology full-time now and I love ShortHand program, because I type in sentences and then just hit a couple of letters and it will type the 1-4 sentences for me. I found it took some time to get used to the smartype, but I also liked that program and I refer to it for correct spelling of words during the day if need be. It can slow you down at first, but I was determined to let it do the work for me.
smartype attaches to your Word program - SM
so you cannot use it unless you open Word as well as the account's platform, and type there (then copy/pasting the reports into the facillity's system).
Shorthand works independently so works with pretty much all systems.
I've never had one that did not expand a shorcut with the space bar.
I've been doing the same thing with my Smartype LOL was hoping there was a program

You can use Shorthand in ANY program, it works outside your program
I have never found a platform it did not work with and I have worked on several different versions of Meditech. Just start using it.
It is in the Shorthand program.
Open ShortHand and click on help.
It's a really good program. I use Shorthand with it.
Instant Text also works
Shorthand program with Citrex
I believe that Instant Text will work and it is an awesome program! I have been using it for about 7 years, really helps production and more.
Shorthand program question
I am using the trial version of the ShortHand program from pcshorthand.com. I have some long entries in there and it seems to take forever for it to go into my report. I sit and watch each sentence come onto the screen. Is there a better shorthand program? Where it just instantly pastes the entire text "BAM" instantly without having to stop and wait?
Also, maybe it just does it like this because it is a trial version????
Thanks!!!
shorthand program/bayscribe
I am having problems with this too. Did anyone resolve this? I turned of teh Bayscribe player, but how do you get ShortHand to start working>
Is Shorthand a "separate" program/not DQS?
It sounds that way, but just checking. Thanks.
Shorthand works with every program, it works outside the program you use, does not interfere.

Is there a way to copy Shorthand program from one computer
to another when I do not have the disk anymore? Any help appreciated. I recently bought a new computer and am looking to install my ShortHand on that computer.
Shorthand is great short cut program,
I wish you the best.
Get a decent word expansion program like PRD or Shorthand sm
autocorrect is very limited. If you want to make money, your really need a good expander.
Not on dial-up, but use ExText. I just keep my own Shorthand program open and minimized and use it

I use Shorthand for Windows and love it. I have found it works well with most every program. SM
I have used with Word and Word Perfect. I have used it with Meditech and Cerner. I have used it with RadNet and StarNavigator for Radiology. I can use it with my email applications and on the internet if I choose. If the Expander is open and running, you can use it with any and every window program you use.
I was really simple to learn to use too. Very user friendly.
I have heard of a program for Shorthand that has 90% of all sentences a doctor could use, does anybo

You should not be having that problem, Shorthand works "ouside any program." Contact Shorthan

SpeedType
I agree with you 100%. I purchased SpeedType a couple of years back and hated the program! It not only doesn't help with productivity, it also has the annoying window that stays open at the bottom while you're typing--which I found highly distracting. After trying the program out for a couple of weeks (hoping I would get used to it), I uninstalled and stored the CD in a filing drawer, where it still sits today!
I use speedtype with DQS
They told me it wouldn't work, but I tried anyway - it works just fine. It is not part of DQS of course, but sits open in my systray and works just as if I were using it in Word or any other program.
For Speedtype... Please help
Can anyone tell me how to find the AutoCorrect entries in MS Word (name of file) to send to Speedtype for conversion into Speedtype?? TIA!
speedtype with DQS
How do you use Speedtype with DQS? I've been cutting and pasting from Word for two years and haven't received any complaints, but if there is an easier way, please let me know!
Can you do this with SpeedType too?
I have the same problem with SpeedType. I type: 3yo and SpeedType types 3 -year-old with that space between the 3 and the hyphen. Anyway to close that space?
{@KEY BkSp}-pack-per-year is for Shorthand. Using the semicolon works with both Shorthand and
;yo = -year-old
;py= -pack-year
etc...
PRD is a DOS program. I don't think it work with Word, a Window's program.

It will count everything if you go in the settings and program it to. Good program!
Sylcount is an awesome and accurate counting program also. That will count everything if you "tell it to".
I took shorthand too. But it sure comes in helpful for my expanders. I view words in shorthand for
i did use shorthand once in a job but i was so nervous the "boss" took pity and dictated the report on dictaphone.
does anyone work with speedtype on
What are your opinions? thanks
