Speaking of Aruba and Natalle Holloway from post below

It looks like the Arubans are forming a protest of their own who are offended at Mrs. Twitty and the media reporting they are not conducting a proper investigation and their system is bad while America's system of law and order allowed the sex offenders kill children in Florida and Idaho. The Aruban people have a point you know. One news person interviewed protestors and a very literate gentleman suggested Mrs. Twitty was under Aruban law and she should respect that or go home. In a short statement Mrs. Twitty seems to be backtracking after the protests after Mrs. Twitty stated the legal system allowed criminals (the two brothers) to go free and walk among its citizens and tourists. It's about time these people speak out when Americans come over and criticize their government without a clue how it works or if it is working.

Speaking of Aruba....
You are EXACTLY right. Good post. We're both going to be crucified for this.
I cannot find the post you are speaking
of but I just wanted to say "Well said!" It is a shame that people are judged by the color of their skin, how they dress or yes even where they live!
I am proud to say that I also live in a trailer with my husband and 3 children! We also have a nice green lawn and pretty flower beds. We take pride in our home, even though there are wheels on it! Our income last year was $100k+; however, we choose not to live by credit cards and paying a $3000 mortgage but rather saving for the future of our children!
If that makes me a "skank" so beit!
Moderator. I'm speaking of the post a few down.
That says "Decisions about what to pay" and it's reply. Thank you. Apparently, it is contains too much legal jargon for some. Just erase it if you can. Thanks.
Being a former CMT by exam, thank you for speaking my mind! Good post!

I agree with girls getting away from home and acting stupid. Just look at the video clips of the girls on spring break in the US and mom and dad think all they are doing is lying sunning on the beach somewhere. I don't think Natalie was that kind of dumb, but all it takes is one time. I was raised in Ft. Lauderdale and my friends and I used to spend time just walking the strip by the Elbo Room and Omar's just to see the guys. I went to church every Sunday, never said boo in school and never misbehaved. But, I got some attention from a good looking guy and his friends and my friends and we all wound up in their car. I was raped. I never reported it. It would have devastated my parents. Thankfully, I never got pregnant. You better believe my daughters heard the truth from me about spring break and graduation cruises. I knew better, but I just used bad, bad judgment. It could have been worse. I thank God it wasn't. So, I can look at both sides of the Aruba story. I'm sorry for the mother, but I remeber the stupidity of a 17-year-old very well.
The Holloway tragedy.
I so admire Beth Holloway Twitty. I could not get on the politcal board. My problem is this; in the area in which I live, a little black girl was taken into the ER, and although she has had very little press, the docs already said she was dead for 14 hours at least, she has not gotten one bit of press. What is wrong with this country when a white girl, (obviously upper-middle class) is missing and it gets such press, and a little black girl goes into the ER, already 14 hours dead at least and not one bit of press? By the way, I am white and prejudiced but I am beginning to see why black people have an attitude.
holloway and prejudice
Thank you for your insightful post. Gosh..will we ever get it right?? In my life time? I sure hope so..
Holloway & Twitty Families
I feel sorry for both of the families, but just because you want an answer doesn't make people guility because you think they are. Women disappear in the US ALL THE TIME and no one cares because they arent' young, blonde, and come from money. It doesn't make their lives less than Holloway's. She used bad judgment, her parents used bad judgment. Does anyone know of a 17-year-old girl who behaves "correctly" in an atmosphere like Aruba? They let their daughter go to a "foreign country" unchaperoned. They used bad judgment and now they are looking for someone to point a finger at to take the guilt off their backs. Holloway's mother has no right to throw a temper tantrum about the Aruban system. She's not in Kansas anymore!!! Said to say, but she needs to come to grips with reality.
holloway and twitty famillies
TO old TM, who is to say that natalle holloway used bad judgement, where you there? if you followed the story from the beginning, you would have known that there were chaperoned in that foreign country. I don't believe that her parent used bad judgement at all. Ana I think beth twitty has every right to point a finger, when all she is getting is a bunch of lies from the arubans, from day one.
Josh Holloway ("Sawyer" on Lost) and
George Clooney can still make me looney -- though we're all getting older ...
Aruba
Yes, she is an American, but she is an American missing in a foreign country. Just as we have to abide by the rules of another country's government, when in that country, the same holds true here.
There is an excellent team of volunteers from Texas in Aruba, the FBI also is on the island. I've heard on CNN that there have been cases of young, female tourist being kidnapped in Aruba, then shipped not to far to Venezuela, to be held to work as a prostitute.
In that case, then we'd have to tell yet another government, that we followed the trail to your country and now our agents will be moving in
We are the greatest nation on earth, but we do not have the right to just force our way into another country and demand they do things our way
FBI in Aruba
Do you have any clue as to how many born and bred American citizens, under the age of 21, many under 15, our precious children, who have been taken by their parent, who is of another nationality, kidnapped from their custodial parent and wisked away to a foreign country by the other parent?
This usually occurs when the idiotic courts give visitation to said parent, knowing full well they are a flight risk, yet duh...."trust they won't do anything stupid"
As of 6 months ago, there were 2138 children born in the US, American citizens, that have unwillingly been taken to a foreign country, leaving their custodial parent caught in this catch 22 of trying to get their child back
The Hague Convention specifically prohibits this action, has rules to force the other country to return these children, yet the custodial parent is often left to hire Soldiers of Fortune to go in, stake out the country, living area, school where these children are, then they attempt to do what our country, the country that SHOULD be bringing these children home, fail to do! This should automatically be done, yet we have to try to argue "diplomatically" all the while these kids are kept from their parent the courts gave custody to. It's not cheap to hire a hit squad to get your kids back, it cost's thousands of dollars to do so.
In my opinion, the USA/FBI/CIA/ SECRET SERVICE all should be concentrating on THESE innocent victims a bit more than a young 18 yr old that made a bad judgement.
Where is the face time for the mothers or fathers of these children...the media won't give it to these kids, unless it is deemed worthwhile, and IMHP, each and every one of these children is worthwhile. It's just such an overwhelming thing to go through...I know, my nephew is somewhere in Saudi Arabia, growing up now for 3 yrs thinking his mother is dead or did not want him
ARUBA CASE
The parents had to known she was going to drink in Aruba. Why would these 17 and 18 years want to go of course to drink or they could have went to Florida instead. Even though this girl made bad judgement if she drank to much and went off with these guys this did not have to happen. We need to blame who ever did this. If my 18 year old wanted to go to Aruba I would probably say yes but lecture her a head of time. I know my 18 year probably drinks in college but I told her I don't want to know this. What I do not see I don't have to worry about it. I have no control of her when she is in college but she is not allowed to drink in our house or anyone elses until she is 21. I have a feeling that her body has been thrown in the ocean. The whole situation is so so sad.
perhaps you should go to Aruba and help with the investigation (nm)
Any thoughts on the case in Aruba?
Little by little they are losing ground. Commentator was saying that even if the last person to see her alive was Joran, the 17-year-old still in jail, they can't prove anything. Maybe they fell asleep on the beach and when he woke she was gone. Commentator said that if after all this time they could not break a 17-year-old and get a confession, with his two friends and father in jail, there is a possibility that he did not do it.
PS: I think her mother should go home instead of second-guessing the government over there. She is convinced the three are guilty with the father as an accomplice. How do you come to that conclusion with sureness? That's kind of like some foreigner over here coming over and if something were to happen to them and they disappeared after a night of drinking and last being seen with a stranger, his parents come over and criticize our legal system because we can't PROVE foul-play. Just a bit over-the-top for a mother who should be grieving the loss of her daughter instead of criticizing the authorities. Hey and another thing, how about criticizing the chaperones who lost contact with the daughter and did not discover she was missing till she failed to show up at the airport!!
Missing girl in Aruba
Here in the midwest, we recently had a "found college girl", seven years after she disappeared from Texas, and was presumed dead. Turns out, she and her parents had a huge blow-up over a boy, she took off, never to be heard of again....UNTIL, somehow, someone saw her picture in the very same Wal-Mart she had been working in for 5 yrs! She still did not want to talk to her folks, but they since have made small inroads into reuniting
I was just in Aruba -very nice island
Aruba is just like any other tourist destination where as long as you stay in the tourist areas, do not wonder off into the downtown areas at night and practice basic street-smarts, then there is no need for alarm and it is just as safe as any other place. I went to Aruba last month and we had a nice stay but I also went there years ago when I was about 16 w/my friend and her family. Of course we drank our little hearts out but we stayed in the hotel area and never wandered off. I will admit that we were harrassed by locals a bit (and I think it was because we were so young) but we ignored them and ALWAYS stayed together- we used our street smarts!!
It sounds as tho this young girl did not have as much street smarts as you or I. I would never leave with guys I just met by myself even if I were at a bar in my hometown area, nevermind in another country! It is common sense but unfortunately this young girl didn't know any better, or for whatever reason maybe she thought that she was safe with these boys and she probably thought they were just regular kids just like her & her friends. It is very sad that she possibly had to pay the ultimate price for what she thought was just an innocent mistake.
We as parents try to protect our children from so much, but at the same time, I think sometimes we are so focused on keeping the evil of the world out, that we possibly make our children more vulnerable.
So you are educated in the laws of Aruba? Wow.
I sound like I have lack of knowledge about this case, as does Mrs. Twitty. So, I guess me and Mrs. Twitty should look to you for explanations and answers as to where her daughter is and what happened to her? Do you have some inside info the rest of the world is not privy to? I'm just wondering because if not, you are blowing a lot of hot air around and basically just about as uneducated about the laws and the evidence surrounding this case as the rest of us.
Aruba is a foreign country. Their laws
are different than U.S. Father said "no body, no crime" because he knows in their system if they have no body, they have no crime. Therefore, they have to find a body...or they can't prosecute for murder.... Their laws, not ours. That is what it is when you travel outside the country, you are under the foreign country's laws.. Really too bad but that is how it is.
Aruba is not as well equipped to handle this situation (sm)
as the U.S. is...so therefore, if they are in over their heads, THEY should ask for the U.S. to help, period! That is a resort country, equipped basically to show tourists a good time, and not to handle a missing American case! See my point?
I don't know how you can take off for weeks at a time with all your close relatives and go to Aruba
and not be wealthy. Could you? Indefinitely? You and your husband? And her husband said they may buy a house there if necessary because the mother is not going home w/o Natalee. So assuming that resort island property is not cheap, they can afford to buy a house in Aruba? Can you?
Chandra Levy's parents said the same thing. It's not about Aruba.
It's about the parents. Be mad as hell if you want to. Blame Aruba. But do it quietly. Because if the parents knew ANYTHING, they would catch the perpetrator. They know nothing but just spout accusing everyone of illegal activity just as you do. I do know Aruba and not everyone is related to everyone and there is a blend of nationalities just as Joran is Dutch and the two boys with him were obviously a different nationality. To oversimplify the situation by calling everyone crooked and criminal in Aruba is insane. Perhaps Natalee did some drunk swimming and everyone else in Aruba who has lived life nicely on this pleasant island and never killed anyone before are being falsely accused. Consider that.
Again, there are professional American search teams in Aruba.
Nobody knows the terrain of the island better than the native Arubans. Together with advice from the FBI, the search team from Texas and the hundreds of Arubans who do know the island they are doing what they can do. They do not need the hysterical rants and accusations from Mrs. Twitty
Should just post all their open positions in one post and only be allowed to post one of those a day

speaking as the mom of a 15 YOD
TELL THEM!!! This is way too dangerous...tell them pronto! They will thank you and you will be able to sleep at night!
TELL THEM!
Speaking of which...
Great - not only does this guy have a thick accent, he mumbles, not to mention all the coughing in my ear he is doing. I'm only halfway through and have about 20 blanks. Hopefully the second time through will be a little better. Oh, and it's about 15 minutes long. Looks like a three or four time proof to me :-(
If you are speaking to me...sm
I didn't say I am THE BEST, I believe I said I am quite good, because I am. Happily, there is still room to grow and learn for me. It is not yet as good as it will get.
What makes me the "tops" if you will, is that I am willing to share what I know. I am happy to take the time to help ANY OTHER MT who wants to learn. I know a fair amount about Expanders and I share that. I give away my glossary to anyone who asks me for it. Newer MTs who take me up on my offer of help thank me and tell me that they come to MTStars because they don't know where else to turn. Often they are greeted by nastiness and rudeness!
Speaking of which...
...since settlement of the suit, has anyone been contacted by AHDI to see how they want to receive their pittance in '' benefits'' from the settlement? Or are we supposed to chase them down and demand it? I really have no intention of pursuing this, but wondering how they are supposed to be distributed.
Speaking to yourself? Because I'm not leaving here ... :)
..
Speaking of Nike/Just do it
I heard on some news channel doing a flash back thingie, that a young woman athelete is the one who actually created the Nike Swoosh logo...sold her swoosh sketch to Nike years ago for get this..........35.00, period! All rights, etc. Must not have had any advise or she'd be rolling in the $$$ for the rest of her life
Speaking of trailers, what exactly does
Eminem mean when he says, "Two trailer park girls go around the outside." Not even Whitetrash.net had an explanation.
Speaking of information...
I just called the phone company to move some old lines off my property from when I used to have three phone lines here to work. The lines really hang down low, so it's a safety issue. The guy gives me the third degree saying that I have to answer his "CI information". He asks me if I'm married, if I'm employed, where I work, for a relative's phone number, and all sorts of stuff. I asked him what he needed to know this for since I pay my account in full every month, so he tells me it's for the 9-1-1 system. Why would they need to know all of this? He never did set up the service call or tell me if there would be a charge. Most companies only update information if they think they're going to need to put legal action against someone for not paying a bill. Mine's paid!
Speaking of MedQuist
I got a check today for $114.60 and I haven't worked for them in over 2 years. Well, I do appreciate the check. LOL
Maybe it's just the thought of it. Not speaking for
I walked into the lab to have my blood drawn and the phlebotomist set a glass of wine down and said I'll be right with you. I'd even feel the same way if I went into the dry cleaners and the woman at the pressing machine had a glass of wine next to her. It's all in the perception, I guess. My perception is that if there was nothing wrong with it, even if it's just 1 glass of wine...or a half a glass of wine for that matter...if it was a perfectly acceptable standard to drink a glass of wine while working, you'd see it in work places everywhere. The standard shouldn't be any different just because we work at home.
Speaking as MTSO...
As MTSO and having 20+ girls who work for me, here is my slant: I never give out more work to my MTs on a Friday than can actually be DONE on Friday. I would spread it around before I would make someone work a weekend. Now occasionally -- every few months -- there might be some weekend work, but that is unusual, and I always ask who wants it and who does not. Note, none of my clients work weekends either -- all private practices M-F. You did 1000 lines -- at your skill level, that is a full day for you. If she ended up doing "most of it", then she is not fully staffed enough to cover her clients. Not your problem. Unfortunately, they probably scream at her.... so she uses you as excuse and screams at you. Still not your problem. I would much rather have my MTs tell me "I don't do weekends" right up front -- then I can plan around that. You should do same -- then there won't be problems in future. Hang in there!
Speaking of Yeehaw
If you don't think docs think "Yeehaw off to the bank I go!" think again. Consider their three week yearly cruises on the finest ships to Europe, complete with stateroom and balcony, jetting off here and there both personally and professionally, waterfront homes, Lexus, boats, mama's daily shopping trips, junior's tuition to Harvard and juniorette's tuition to Brown. I say the MT should say Yeehaw. She works hard, like the doctor, so they both deserve it.
Speaking as an MTSO
All I can say is the work has to be done some how, some way. Do you realize that there may be a $ penalty involved if the work is late? If the work is not on the medical record it may impact patient care? What gripes me is many complain that we are sending work out of the country. Those out of the country do not complain about the workload and are willing to go the extra mile even if it includes working on the weekend. People are sick on the weekends too. That is the nature of healthcare. Documentation of medical records does not depend on how much time you want to spend with your family on Saturday and Sunday. If your family member came into the emergency room on a Saturday would you not want their medical record to be available for healthcare professionals in a timely fashion? What if the doctors and nurses decided they wanted to be off with their families every weekend instead of taking care of you or a loved one? Please look at the big picture here.
Speaking too fast
Wake up call -- they speak too fast so they can blame you for any mistakes. The same with those who write poorly - "That's not what I said." Another reason is they are too cheap to take the time to speak slowly, have to keep making those $$$. It's all about the money - not the patient. It also gives them a sense of "power" over you. You'll catch on.
Speaking of bonuses...
We were getting $3 extra per rad report when out of TAT, but now it is 25 cents. Talk about going from filet mignon 2 horse meat!
Speaking of Survivor.
Anyone every applied before or know someone who has, my Niece is trying to get on and is going for an open audition this coming Friday, any advice?
speaking of carrotts
Instead of steaming them, roast them in the oven:
Preheat oven to 400 degrees
Spread carrotts in one layer on a baking sheet--make sure it has edges
Drizzle with olive oil, sprinkle with salt and pepper; coat well
Bake 35-45 minutes until carrotts are tender...they come out sooo very sweet and delicious, much more flavorful than steaming and still healthy!
Speaking from experience (sm)
Save yourself the headache and heartache by not thinking of getting help from your siblings. We went through this with the illness and death of my mother and if I had it to do over again, I would not have contacted half of the ones I did to try to get help. It was awful. I severely disliked several of them because of it. I would get so angry because they weren't helping a woman who brought them into this world. The excuse I always heard "I have to work. I don't want to take off vacation days. I can't leave so and so at the office by herself if I take off; she'll have to do it all herself." Oh, that list could go on!!!! I finally took wise advice from a friend who said to quit asking them for help and just plan on going it myself. It made a huge difference!! There was no more stress of me worrying about their next excuse or worrying whether this was going to get done or not. All that mattered to me, mom needed care, health care, and if I had to be the one to do it, with a few others in the family, then so be it.
The rest of your family will never get it, so sorry to say. It will save you headache and heartache but not depending on them and trying to figure out WHY they don't get it. You could spend your whole life wondering and still never figure it out.
So sorry you're stressing like this.
Speaking of Elliot.....
Have you heard he was at the Beverly Hills Hilton hotel taking pictures and Nicki Hilton had security stop him! Those Hilton girls are just pure white trash who happen to have money - I don't know who they think they are!
Speaking of Nip Tuck, anyone know when
Can't wait!
Speaking from experience...sm
If it doesn't directly concern you or effect YOUR job, stay out of it. Everytime I have ever done what I "felt" was the right thing when it didn't concern me, it backfired. If the policy is that strict and there are only the 4 of you, this MT will be busted eventually. Someone earlier mentioned that "if" you have a good MTSO, they will do or say the client contacted them or handle it to where you won't be effected. No one knows what what your MTSO will do, good or bad. Even if this MT does have a private agreement with the client, the key word is private.
I've been in similar situations and you will end up having someone mad at you no matter what you do. If she does get busted I would plead the 5th as to even having any knowledge of it. Just keep transcribing.
Just curious, do you work at home?
Good luck! Keep us posted.
Speaking from someone who has never had such hardship, huh?
By the way, I do not complain about my line counts. From what I can remember, I've NEVER made a post ever about such. I am complaining loudly because most of what you say stinks, period...and I do get my line counts done, every day. I do have a paycheck I am happy with. Yet, you stated that I proved your point that all of us are not professionals and could not make it in a job outside of the house because I chose this profession to stay home. You assume so much about me and others, yet know nothing...only assume.
Speaking of wireless
Do any of you use a laptop to be able to work while on "vacation". I realize that most people don't work when on vacation - but I am wondering if MTs are doing this. If so - how does this work? I'm thinking of buying a laptop to be more mobile and want to know what I need in order to work this way (what I need to hook up the wavpedal, etc.) Could anyone who does this recommend a particular computer brand and model?
GENERALLY speaking
first shift is 7 AM to 3 PM
second is 3 PM to 11 PM
third is 11 PM to 7 AM
this is general - it may be +/- an hour or two.
shift differential would probably be based on company policy.
naturally speaking 8
If anyone can help me. I am working for a Dr. that uses naturally speaking pro 8. I have downloaded the main disc onto my computer, but it will not let me access his files. If anyone can help with getting this set up, I would really appreciate the help. Supposedly, I am supposed to be able to open his files with my pc. Thanks for any help I can get!!
Sharon
speaking of laptops
how do you sit outside when you need a foot pedal?? laptop knowledge is sort of new to me also. Thanks!!
Dragon Speaking
I am totally baffled at how "you" can use Dragon Speaking when it is the doctor's voice that you are using. How can you do that? How can you edit someone else's voice? I have been wondering how this works for a while, so figured this is a good time to ask. TIA
