There is no such thing as REVERSE discrimination.
Discrimination is discrimination regardless of which race /person is practicing it...
If it's discrimination - SM
why do companies hiring MTs as ICs/employees ask for that information, plus two forms of ID. In order to work in this country, you must prove you are a US citizen.
I have had several occasions when applying for work as an IC that I have been asked not only for two forms of ID but a birth certificate as well.
That's age discrimination.

Discrimination
Anymore we all have some form of discrimination and I am sure it will only get worse. I detest the fact that my husband and I have to sign for allergy meds Alavert-D or Claritin-D at the pharmacy and can only get one package at a time because some "low life druggies" are using these drugs and other compounds in this "free world" to make their so-called "goodies" so that they will have less brain cells than they already do. How disgusting! I know what they are doing is making it safer for us, but at the same time is a pain in the butt.
you want reversed discrimination?
My husband is a student there. Each class is 5 weeks. He has had the same students in his class since the beginning. The whites are always working hard on projects and presentations. The blacks do ABSOLUTELY NOTHING but they are passing the classes. All of the whites who have them in their group have complained about this. The reason is, the students pass on the basis of groups rather than on an individual basis. If there are 3 whites and 1 black, the black does nothing but is considered part of the group and passes.
THIS IS A FACT!!!
major discrimination
My husband works for an agent with a major insurance company. He is not the agent although he does have to have agent's licensing. We were told probably 15 years ago, that a white male would not be allowed to become an agent for many, many years due to people (this happened to be two women) who declared that they were discriminated against in this company. So to compensate for discrimination this national company will not hire a "white male" for the appointed amount of time (which was a very extended time period of many, many years) unless that "white male walked on water." That was their quote too. I have heard (but have not verified this) that this same "discrimination" is going on in the medical field. Therefore, you have all the ESL's who are able to get into med school but the American Caucasian is not chosen because you cannot discriminate. My question is "Who is really being discriminated against?" In my husband's company -- It is the Caucasian white male and I have a feeling that it is the Caucasian that is discriminated against in the medical field as well.
Discrimination and ESLs
What do you think should be done about the inferior treatment that was heaped upon other groups of people for centuries? I believe your comments were mean spirited and insensitive, and if I were you, I would search my heart and think about what is in it. ESLs help to keep MTs busy and sharpen our listening skills. One of the worst accents I ever had to transcribe for was from the United Kingdom--where "proper" English is spoken. We now live in a global society, a diverse America, and there is no going back to how things were before. Thank God for that!
Maybe a discrimination issue
They can tell your race and age that way, and for an employee application it is probably illegal. For an IC it's completely out of line since the I in IC stands for independent ie. none of their business. Would you ever make such a demand of a doctor, plumber, lawyer, etc.?
You have to have lots more with discrimination
charges. What you have said in your note are "looking up and down" and things you take as being discrimating, nothing really. Your changes of really a suit like this would be about a big 0. Insurance companies are to make money- what about all the homeowners being cancelled on the coast because hurricaines hitting other places and not theirs? It happens! A company can turn you down for any reasons - regardless of your passing their test- they don’t have to hire you. I have looked all over your original post and nothing here that would be a court case. Saying making room, asking if they could eat a cake? If it were chocolate and I was really in the mood, yes I could eat a couple of pieces and so? Most could, they just don’t say they could!
And how about that AGE DISCRIMINATION! Only hire
.
AGE DISCRIMINATION - agree w/ poster below. nm

It is called 'reverse discrimination' and there
concerning this a few years ago. I don't know what the outcome was.
That is discrimination......there is a National Awareness Group
to fight against obesity discrimination. Look into that......I don't think, by law, insurance companies can do that, but I may be wrong.
Really, that is awful. It is a form of discrimination, just like not having a seat on an airplane to fit larger people. Eventually, all planes now are supposed to accommodate those with disabilities and I think obesity has been labeled a "Disabiilty' of late.
Check into it further, for your own benefit. Good luck and I wish you well.
It would be discrimination to care about nationality of person you are hiring.
People can't hide accents. Can you hide your regional American accent? For instance if you are from New York, can you hide that and speak in a Georgia/Southern accent? What are you thinking?
Okay, I hate to be the one to scream law suit, but this reeks of discrimination.
I would seriously check out the descirmination laws in your state because that is exactly what this is.... Oh as a Large and Lovely girl myself, I am furious along with you. Okay not that I would ever want to work for a company who had the moral ethics of a flea, but they need to learn that they cannot treat people like this. Man the nerve..
Ugh - I have placenta brain already - I meant for my last baby :)

I have that headache too! Dontcha luv typing with a brain ache?!
I take silver from GNC. Try it.
Meant which scary movie? Brain dead today

If I boil mine ahead of time, I go ahead and peel off the shell after they have (sm)
been sitting in a pan of cold water for about 30 minutes.
You are me in reverse (sm)
I tend to ignore life forms, smile at no one, and conversation? What the heck is that???
Did what you did, but in reverse..
Mrs. Chippy,
I did the opposite of what you are doing. OPS were always my favorite and I did them for years. I quit the company I had been with for years and now am working on clinic notes for a different service, which I find I'm enjoying so far. I always thought I wouldn't like clinic notes. Of course, it's only been three days, so I might have a change of heart after I do 100 of them.
OPs are hard to learn, but once you get the terminology and phrasing down, it's good line count because they usually speak fast and don't sit there and drone on and on talking a word a minute.
Just type a first draft all the way through, leave blanks, then go back and fill them in as best as possible. Leave the rest to QA. Even after doing OPs for years, there was hardly a day I didn't have a blank.
I think I did OPs too long and that's why I finally needed a break. I was changed to ER's when I started slowing down on OPs but I just couldn't stand them. Maybe it was the dictators, but I just couldn't stay awake doing ER's, although it was really good line count. It was so frustrating to do a 3 or 4 page ER report on someone who had a cut on their finger or other tiny thing. Then add that to a dictator with a monotone voice, and I'm falling out of my chair in a narcoleptic fit.
Good luck with the OPs!

Mass affect on brain or mass effect on brain?

ooh lucky you - I get the reverse - 80% reg;
Because think of the reverse, when you worked in the office...
did you ever see the director of med rec ask doctors to dictate their old stuff, so there would be enough work for MTs? when we were low on work in the hospital,a deficiency list would be sent out, and then boom a bunch of dictation...
hospitals are doing anything and everything they can to cut costs, even as mentioned above, hiring ICs on the side. health care is purely a business now, and I would bet not a day goes by every hospital in America asks the question, how can we cut back on the cost of dictation?
if that were not true, you would not have the HUGE push for the technology and the HUGE push for outsourcing, overseas or not.
think about this, also. we are only working at home for these companies, because hospitals decided it would be cheaper than paying health benefits for full-time MTs, office space, etc etc.
I do not put anything past people who are 100% money-driven these days.
you do make a great point, though, about the billing and DRGs, etc., but I still think they are told to 'cool-it' whenever they can...
Reverse tennis elbow? sm
After 10 years of transcribing, just the last couple of months I am having inflammation and tenderness on the inside of my left elbow. Not on the right, just the left. Ergonomics? Might be. I have tried putting a folded up towel on the arm of my chair, raising my elbow, and that helps a little. Anyone else every had this?
Try doing a functional resume instead of a reverse chronological one.
Focus on your strengths instead of on your former employers. It's your job skills that are important, not how many MTSOs or nationals couldn't keep you busy enough.
* Ten years of multispecialty experience.
* Such and such software skills.
* These reports and those specialties.
* Motivated self-starter, blah blah blah.
Here's a nonMT example of a functional resume.

Reverse poll: What are the 2 things your DH loves about YOU? see msg
After reading the poll a few threads down, last night I asked my hubby what were the two things he loved about ME the most. Without hesitation he said: "your encouragement" (towards him) "and your intelligence." (This is coming from a learned man himself. That was truly uplifting.)
Still Reverse Poll: What are the 2 things you hate about your DH?

I would reverse the media player back
and see if that corrects the problem. If so, you might either decide you don't need the upgrade or contact Windows about a fix...
Make sure your plug is all the way in - sometimes it looks like it is but isn't seated.
Just do a restore to the day before you did the upgrade - or if you are uncomfortable with this uninstall the software and test your headphones...
just a thought.
Unfortunately, NO. Didn't help me. It made me depressed. Reverse effect. nm

Working in Word, and suddenly my screen splits into two pages, and I can't reverse it. HELP!
Does anyone know what I've done and what I can do to get it back to just one window? It is Word 2003 on a XP platform, if that helps any. Thanks.
Sorry, 'MT way too long,' my post was not meant for you, it was meant for Wow! Sorry!!...nm

Typing. This is NOT typing, it is transcribing. There is a BIG difference. sm
Transcription includes typing, but so much more.
Don't do anything, just tell him to go ahead and do what he
has to do. If he's not for real, the threat has been not worked. If he is for real, he MUST have documentation to prove his case, or even then it's no use taking it to court. He will file in small claims probably, if less than $5000. He must prove his case, and you don't have to do anything, bottom line.
Don't get too ahead of yourself..
You may certainly have a valid argument, but don't base it on the "fact" that rad reports are all paid by report. I have been doing rad for over 12 years now, and have yet to be paid by report. Most are by the line, and any MTSO I have worked for, rad is one of the lowest line rates compared to other work type accounts. Yes, there are companies that pay by the report, but, I surely wouldn't go so far as saying that is the "norm".
Then go ahead. Not me.
nm
Go ahead
post it! You will feel so much better and be able to continue knowing you got your two cents in. Sometimes it makes you wonder about American standards for the practice of medicine, does it not? Doesn't it make sense that in America doctors should be able to communicate properly and have a handle on the language? Accents are not what I am talking about either. I am talking about vocabulary and grammar that can possibly cause a change outcome. This is a very serious business, medicine. Those who dictate should be qualified to dictate. Amen.
So how would you know ahead of time if
problem with drinking? Don't mean to get off the subject but just wondering.
Ah, go ahead...don't be ashamed...
No one will laugh. And, most likely no one will slam you for it either. There are only a few really nasty, jealous people here.
Go ahead and invest......SM please
Go ahead and pay for a decent program so you'll be set up. In all honesty (my opinion) you do not get the same kind of quality sound with these freebies as you do with the others. If you intend to do this job, at least get proper equipment.
IMHO
that should say *ahead of time*

Go ahead, tell us, what is abortion then?

go ahead rant!
One of my dictators smacks gum in my ear constantly and it drives me crazy because it is rude!!
thinking ahead
Yes, you are so right, be cordial and that's it. Her problems are not mine and she is very manipulative. My concern is mainly how this will affect my friendship with Patty who happens to be a very close friend of mine. Also, thinking ahead to the future, H's daughter is getting married. Wait! Before I get into this... H's daughter moved out yesterday. They had a huge fight and H kicked her out of the house. The daughter is now living with the fiance's family!!! I know they will patch it up probably in the near future... so here is my problem. About a month ago, H called me and said she is having a shower for her daughter on July 29 at 1:30 and I should mark the date. I said "I'm busy that day" and I was joking, but I wish I was busy. First of all, I hate showers and I hate Pampered Chef parties which she is also always having...and I never go !!! :)
I don't go to those. Secondly, I want to backpedal from this family as much as possible. H is the type who will never speak to me again if I don't go to the shower. All advice is appreciated. I guess if she isn't talking to me maybe she will not send the invitation... but I can't count on that.
Go ahead, argue with me on how you all think
Lets see the moral ethics flow.
Paying below poverty... minimum wage is POVERTY, yet, below that.. what a joke.
So many drs, so many specialites, can't get ahead!
Ugh, I've been working for a National for about a month now, and they keep throwing new drs and new specialities at me everyday, and it's so frustrating. My line count gets lower it seems, instead of higher. Is this normal?
I've been an MT for 10 years, but worked for a local small company until they went out of business. This national thing is completely new to me, and I'm not liking it so far. Just when I was getting comfortable about 2 weeks ago, they threw new docs and new specialities at me, and I can't seem to keep up. Very frustrating!!
go ahead girl
I know it is very fustrating when you are spending your time which you aren't paid for trying to make sure that the report is right by researching extensively. And some of the dictators are so inconsiderate like when they decide to eat while dictating and talk with the food in their mouth so it makes it hard to make out what they are saying and sometimes they arent eating anything just dont have the courtesy to make the dictation as clear as they can. I have a clinic account where some reports have to be sent back with a blank name for a cc or letter to referrring physician because there are more than one doc. with that same last name in the same city and they think you should know who they are talking about. And sometimes they may both be just general practioners so you have no idea based on their specialty either. We definitely don't get paid enough to do their research. It does make you want to just throw the reports out to get the line counts and leave blanks and let them figure it out.
you go ahead and demand that $75K
That will leave your position open for another person who doesn't think they are the MT queen. That "level of expertise" has been achieved by many hard-working individuals. They are out there with excellent skills and might be happy to take your place. Then you can spend your time pursuing something that will make you happy and allow you to feel fulfilled. I feel sorry for you that you are so bitter about your choice of employment. You still do not need to go out insulting other people and calling someone stupid. You do owe her an apology.
I would think just go ahead and apply.
If you've done acute care, you should be fine with radiology. I've never done pathology, but I would think it would be pretty similar to radiology in that they use certain tests for certain specimens. I think there's a touch of radiology and pathology in acute care reports. I do a lot of clinic and also have worked full-time radiology, and they are seem to intertwine. I would say either let your current employer know you're interested and see what happens.
Listening ahead
I am just wondering if you listen ahead regardless of the length of the dictation?
I do need help increasing productivity and appreciate all suggestions. It just seems wasteful to listen for 5 minutes without doing any work. (Maybe not......others have more experience.) Feedback?
As always my thanks
On listening ahead
Listening ahead doesn't mean to listen without typing or to listen to the whole dictation first.
Older MTs transcribe this way because they had to use older transcribers which typically did not have that little backup or "instant rewind" feature. They didn't stop on a dime, either, but slowed to a stop. During the stop and start, you could lose an entire word or phrase.
MTs thus learned to stop in the pauses between sentences. They listened to the first part of the sentence, began typing after the first couple of words, then paused only to get PARTIALLY caught up. They listened ahead and typed AT THE SAME TIME.
This is a lot more efficient than the hear-a-word/type-a-word method.
It also helps to type slowly enough that you do not make any typos at all. That way, you do not have to stop and correct them. That alone saves huge amounts of time.
