Is it possible someone has hijacked your computer?..sm
It can happen. Somehow they get into your computer and steal any info they can. I can't figure out how they are sending emails to you that seem to be from you. That is weird. Maybe you should call a computer service place and ask them what can be done.

It was actually just the SpreadFirefox site that got hijacked. sm
You can still safely load Firefox from Majorgeeks.com. I think it is a great, great browser and am so glad I don't have to be a slave to IE.
I was hijacked like you once and spent all day trying to get (inside)
rid of it, it hijacked everything and sent me to sites I had never been, could not get to Yahoo my home site. Finally I downloaded Hijack (that is what it is called). It is a free program and that did it. I had everything back to normal. I just followed their instructions and walla it was back to normal.
It tried to hijack me today. sm
I clicked on a link while doing some research and a little box came up that said it was scanning my computer. click OK. well, that was my only choice so I had to. Then another box came up that said i needed to download the antivirus 2009 software to fix the problem it found. click OK to download or cancel to let it finish doing the scan. Only choices. Every time I clicked cancel, another popup came up that said the scan found problems. endless loop. So they are basically trying to trick you into downloading it or wearing you down and getting you to download it out of sheer exhaustion. I could not click on anything else either -- other tabs in teh browser or closing the browser were blocked out.
I ended up going to Task Manager (Vista) and closing out Firefox altogether and starting over.
Phew! No infection!
That's the word on the street - hijacked. We'll see. I like

Think I have gotten it solved
I went to Radio Shack and got the USB, it is a powered VGA splitter and hopefully that will take care of these issues. Gang, I appreciate all the information each sent me. This site is priceless!!

Thanks to everyone, I took everyone suggestions and disabled AutoCorrect and also loaded ShortHand after everything else when my computer started up. I haven't had the problem today I was having yesterday, so I guess your suggestions worked! Thanks!
You just solved a mystery for me!
I have one female doctor who is constantly being disconnected in the middle of dictating reports. Once she was disconnected more than 10 times in one report. I could never figure out what the problem was until I read your post. Thank you for making my day and solving one of the great mysteries of my job!

I actually found a previous reply on this board telling me to unplug both cords from back of printer, reboot computer, then plug both cords back and try to print.
I turned off the printer first, then followed the above. It worked.This board is awesome!
OMG! We just had the SAME problem and solved it by accident!!
We live by the ocean, and my husband had bought one of those "canned air horns" you can bring on a boat. They're like $5 in boat stores or sporting good stores. The poor dog next door is tied out 24/7, and verbalizes his unhappiness, but enough is enough. We tried everything, including talking nicely like adults with the owners, nada. We finally called the police, who live nearby and hear it, too! That put the fear of God in the owners for 48 hours, and then yap, yap, yap. About a month ago, by accident my husband blasted the horn in the back yard, and...silence...dead silence...the dog hates it. Now, I have dogs, too, and they didn't even notice this blast, so it didn't hurt their ears or anything like that! But this yapping beast seems totally astonished by the air horn. We've done it 2 or 3 times since, and now the dog NEVER barks. He's fine, but apparently knows there is "something" louder than him out there! We also called the police BEFORE we did it intentionally the next time, and they said it was fine, no laws against canned air horns, and we only blast it for a second. The dog is at least 1/4 acre away, so not like we're on top of him. It only took a few blasts, but it worked! Give it a try!!
Well, the first day was the problem that couldn't be solved.
The "try this" took all day, starting at 8 A.M. By 7 P.M., techs finally said we need to send you new computer, we think your hard drive is damaged. I would think Fed Ex would pick up computer at 8 P.M. EST (Tampa)on Wed. My Fed Ex guy has a route that brings him by my street later afternoons typically and I got it today at 4:30 PST (California).

Tape crisis solved-so far
I manually wound the tape up, holding it taught with one hand while winding with the other. It only took an hour. So far, so good. Thanks for the responses. If it ends up getting mangled again, you will all hear me scream wherever you are:)
How I solved the late payment issue -
- with most clients I started subtracting a certain amount (or free of charge) for each report that I turned around late (far and few between) even for circumstances out of my control, while at the same time charging them late payment fees. I also started accepting credit cards.

Had a problem deleting a huge outgoing email. Posted here and many good suggestions came in. However, when I Googled I found www.ITtoolbox, a place to go for technical help.
I was able to finally delete that pesky outgoing email of mine with their help. You may want to keep this site in mind for help if ever you need to.

I have used this for years and have compared to Sylvan, Word, and MP Count, etc. When you have it set to count every character, bold, shift, tab, etc. It is great and always higher than the others. Now if you are wanting gross lines like in Word then no it won't be as high because Word counts blanks lines and Abacus counts a line only if there is a character on it. There is also two places to check for it to count the Headers/Footers. If you have the FREE version then it must be the trial or a very old version so you don't have all the features and functions.

I used McAfee, Norton, Panda, etc, all types of viruses and worms slipped through and caused my computer to crash. I now use AVG free edition, free upgrade every day and free check every day of my computer, that I set at at 4:00 a.m. If in doubt try www.worldstart.com, lots of computer geeks there and they will answer your questions about computers, etc on their message board. They have helped me a few times with reliable, good information about many different problems on my computer. Good luck.

My family is in the restaurant business and I can cook like a maniac .. so screw the free meal stuff!! I am over 50 .. look great for my age .. make very good money .. have no bills .. and though my daughter lives here she is 32 and wishes I would meet someone and cut her a break!! I was a nurse in another life. Do I want to take care of someone whose body is in worse shape than mine .. no; do I want to cook for someone who makes a mess I have to clean just because the moron breathes .. no; do I want to hear the constant whining, burping, farting, dribbling, and all that other geezer stuff .. a thousand times no!! So, I find a guy who is 10 years younger than me and he is crazy about me and likes my old body, and we get along great .. but I have issues with the 10 years and I feel I am more than a wild piece of keister and nothing is free .. and that is on a good day!! I don't think there is another free one
There are different footpedals available though, and not all are interchangeable between transcription modules. I have two pedals, one that I ordered to use with Express Scribe that connects via serial port, and then I got a new computer that did not have the serial port and I also began using the Olympus module, and so I ordered the Olympus pedal, which has two connector ends that you can switch so that you can connect via either serial port or USB.
I am not sure why the pedals are not interchangeable (some of them can be used with more than one module, but I just do not know how to tell the difference other than ordering the pedal based on recommendations from the software manuf. of the transcription module).
I also have had a problem with the Olympus pedal that started after I began loading .wav files into it. It is made to be used with .dss files, but plays .wav and other file types as well, but when I have been away from the computer for a while or when I have closed the programs and reopen them, I often times will have to reach behind my tower and unplug the pedal and then plug it back in. I am not sure what has caused the problem though because for the first couple of months using the Olympus I never had to do that.

We bought a couple of new HP computers this fall and we get a a copy for free, which we should get within a couple of weeks. I bought a refurbished hard drive and loaded microsoft office 2003. So many companies are not allowing Vista or 2007, so I felt this was the way to go. I have had good luck so far and a great running system.

programs for adware, malware, and spyware. I usually search Kim Komando's site for things like that. I find that she is pretty much on the mark with her choices, recommendations, etc. When I hear that I "need" to install something, I figure if I don't know what it will do or not do, then I just leave it alone. Not OP but I have done this for free too
I go in through the IRS's website and select Free E-File and go from there. You can choose from several different software programs. I have used H&R Block for the past 3 years this way and have never paid a dime.

One of the best anti-virus programs out there is AVG 8.0, and you can download it for free. Combined with Spy Sweeper by Webroot, your PC will be completely protected. Ad Aware is another good one.

..would hardly be likely to sell its "paid" version to anyone. Nothing like that could go unnoticed by the technical community and their reputation would be trashed instantly.
AVG supports its free version through the sales of its paid version and offers the free version as a service to the computing community. In doing so, their free version has a very good reputation. I recommend the paid version simply because it is a much more complete package of protection.
