want to do and see what the bad check laws are in your state and you can maybe alert her to that.  Some states allow for collection of 3x the original face amount of the check, along with criminal penalties. 

Have you attempted to deposit the check again?  You might want to do that also first.  You'll need all this documentation should you take it further.
