It is pretty much immediate for most DC purchases as far as my
which sometimes take as much as a week. But, with that being said, one time my got all screwed up and some things were not showing on line but showing me overdrawn, and after talking to my bank was told that DC purchases are promised to retailer the minute you swipe it and even though it was now showing up online, it was not there. Im sorry if this is your case. I know it can really be mess. The only good thing being that if there are overdrafts, you should not be charged by the retailer, only the bank because the bank pays them, and not like a check where they send it back to the retailer.

Making major purchases

Dh and I were looking for a house about 3 months ago because the one we are in is too small.  We put that on halt.  For one, I am worried about my job.  I work for a hospital.  OM announced we are going to upgrade to a new system.  One of our MTs got to see this new system (I don’t know how) and she said it was great.  She told about those 3 doctors that say when doing one of their DS to cut and paste from their HP and then they begin with the hospital course.  We get paid for all those lines.  Well, now the HP is just going to feed into the DS so we won’t have to cut and paste.  Plus some, not all of the docs are going to be able to do VR.  They will still need us for editing they said.  They already took the headers and footer pay away from us because it automatically wraps into the report.

Now assuming that if the things that already wrap into the report we don’t get paid for, those wonderful DS that we love to get with the free lines is coming to a halt.  Also, assuming from what I have read on this message board and others, pay decreases with VR.  None of this has been said yet by OM but I am expecting it to come.  The other MTs are saying oh this is wonderful, oh this is great.  I haven’t mentioned any of my concerns to them mainly because I don’t want to let on that I am worried.  I just quit looking for a new house.  One of the MTs did purchase a new house recently because since they took us off of hourly and put us on production, she is making great money and we are, actually better than what most the MTSOs pay.    I am just afraid it is just going to come to a halt.  Do I have a right to be paranoid?  Has anyone else put big purchases on halt because they are worried about what is to come?  I am kind of the worry wart pessimistic type.
I always use my debit card (with visa symbol) for online purchases, never a problem. nm

do you know how rare 9.3 cpl is?
I'm all for being honest so here it is: The cost of living has continued to rise while our pay has continued to drop.

Many of us are single moms or have husbands who are laid off making us the sole breadwinner right now. No, we don't have the inherent extra expenses that go along with working outside the home, but we DO have rent/mortgages, utilities, insurance, taxes, and school expenses to pay for and food to buy.

We don't have the luxury of working part-time...we have to scrape and claw and fight for every possible line we can get every single day just to survive. Many of us are fighting a war that you'll never see covered on the nightly news.

If we don't keep speaking out about this -- who will? We HAVE to stand up for ourselves because no one else is going to!

There's your honesty. If you're not personally in this situation, then count your blessings.

Not rare
I had an account where a company of dictators (not doctors, but PACs I think) was hired specifically to do dictations of discharge summaries.  There was a lot of shuffling of papers, but some of them did quite well, considering they probably never met the patient, and I was happy that clear-speaking people were hired to do the dictations of a few very heavy ESL MDs.  I don't know how accurate the dictation was, but it sure made my job a lot easier.  I have to admit that I wouldn't want my own reports as a patient dictated by an outside person, though.
$35 an hour! lol That is so rare for MTs now.
Maybe 5 years ago. Not anymore. I do both and make more with QA :)
It is so rare that I have no work that I use
that time to do things I don't normally have time to do, like clean and organize my house, get to some of those craft projects I've been wanting to do.   If you have been that long without work it is time to start looking.
That's awesome and very rare, I'm sure!

listen - it's a RARE MT who could do 4000 LPD..

can also use your cell phone but it's rare
If you have bluetooth technology on your cell phone, you can get a cheap bluetooth plug-in for your laptop and use the cell phone as sort of a modem. Good luck trying to do it, though :*( I have Verizon and have everything I need but they have some double-knot top secret spy access phone number that they don't give out. If you can somehow get that number, you can connect anywhere you can get phone service. (and if you can get it, PUHLEEEEASE let me know it! LOL) I think that most, if not all, of the major cell phone providers have this same capability.
Barring that, you can get a card from your laptop maker (i.e., Dell).
Here's a link to Sprint's mobile broadband card. Through 6/17/07, they have a promotion going and the card itself is free after a $49.99 mail-in rebate. You have to sign up for their service, which is $59.99/month if you have their voice service (i.e., you have a Sprint cell phone and calling service) or $79.99/month if you don't.

Verizon has several mobile broadband cards (you want one that is 'Rev A' compatible/capable). Here's a link to a page with all of them and their prices ($9.99-$179.99) which are 2-year contract prices.
http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/store/controller?item=phoneFirst&action=viewPhoneOverviewByDevice&deviceType=Wireless%20PC%20Cards
They have 2 plans: National Access $59.99/month & Broadband Access $79.99/month.

Hope this all helps!

It is rare, but not extinct to receive a

reply regarding how you fared on your test.  For those of you who are presently going through this situation, I would suggest going back and reading the email you sent requesting the information.  Often times online, the inflections in our words are misconstrued.  You may be wasting time imaging the worst.

Second solution; just forward a copy of your original email to them; it only takes 10 seconds.

It is so rare that people sell their used

IT software, and when I've seen it up for sale, the person selling usually wants $150 or even more for it.

I purchased mine new from Textware Solutions.  It just wasn't worth it to me to wait for someone to put one up for sale and you have to count on them to get the license transfer done, I think.  With the extra production I'm able to do with it, I figure the software paid for itself in a month.

It would be very rare to be paid by the hour
while working at home. Too many variables and too many people would take advantage
It's rare to have ops offered out here, anymore. The keep them in house more and more. nm

They aren't that rare. I've worked with SM
bunches of them.  Unfortunately, my experience with them boils down to this:  The men who do this usually are the men who can't get along in a work environment with a lot of other men.

If you work for a smaller MTSO, it is rare that
they offshore. I work for a small one FT and another one as an IC, and there has never been talk of them offshoring. A lot of the smaller MTSOs don't.
Well, you're a rare one... mostly I get newbies demanding I hire them...sm
for a variety of reasons- because I really-really-really want this job, because I have to work at home to take care of my kids/mother/handicapped sister/old dog, because how can I get experience if you DON'T hire me, etc. etc. Most can't pass a grammar test to show they can use effect/affect effectively, and some even reply with emails riddled with typos and sloppy work. So good for you, but you're about one in a million...sad to say
It's a rare place that pays extra for CMT. 8-8.5 cpl is the average for anyone right
s
Except, you are in the minority. It's RARE when MTSOs actually pay extra for CMTs.

my thumbs get weird and trembly (?). I suspect that is your problem. Try changing your keyboard position, if you have it raised, make it flat, and visa versa. On my backup computer I have to have the keyboard raised but on my everyday PC I have it flat, and my CTS does not bother me now that I have my keyboards situated well for me.
I'm expensive, .15 & .17 for my accounts, no extra for stats which are rare. Bay area CA. nm

i made $15/hr before and didn't stay long because i made so much more on production. sm
that was with full benes too. i wouldn't do it for less than $20, but i think even with $20, i'd want benes. are you in-house?
I don't know how it made such a small diff in your invoice... made a $100 diff in mine! (sm)

If it were only adding up to three bucks, I wouldn't sweat it. $100? Yeah, that's baseball registration for my son for this year. I am not giving tabs, returns, etc. away free when it adds up to that much difference!  Why should I charge less for a Return than I would for a"K"?

i am like you, i doubt it was even sent given her sm
flakiness it sounds. i would send her a certified letter demanding your money back within so and so days or you will contact the police dept for theft as well as sue her in small claims. however, small claims doesn't help much. you have to file in the county she lives in, which you can do via fax, but around here it costs like $60-70 just to file. then i assume you would have to go to OK for the court date so a lot of added expenses adding to much more than the $100. even if the court orders her to pay, there is no follow through with small claims. hey, you can contact judge judy, lol, and might even get a semi-vacation out of it for free. i would threaten her though and call her with a blocked # or use someone else's # to call her.
yep, when in doubt
Just laugh at them.   In the olden days of the Lanier stations, we had a female dictator that would keep cutting herself off like that.  The report would be in like 20 pieces, and she would keep coming back on, didn't even sound frustrated or anything, just kept saying, "I am continuing."  What a DOPE  - SPEAK UP!!!!
NO DOUBT
This country is so screwed up right now it is not even funny. Do not believe the "lowest unemployment rate ever". It is LOW because people have RUN OUT OF unemployment and are off the books. He needs to be on unemployment, waiting for his checks and see how he likes buying gas at these prices. By the way, going up another 10 cents per gallon here today so they say.
Doubt it
Probably not qualified.

Saw was scariest I have seen in a long time.  Not for the squeamish!
I doubt it would help.
Not being negative here, but I've tried it. I don't think your company would approve of you using it, and I don't know if it would even work with their platform since it's not Word-based. Do you use an expander? Which platform are you working on? How many accounts are you bounced around on? Have to look up patient info?
I Doubt That. It happens all over.

8 years working for a hospital and we always had our "dry" periods around the holidays. Sometimes, it would be a month, sometimes 2 months. Last year it was 4 months! There was work, but very, very slow.

I now work for a national and am in the same boat. It started drying up around the holidays. I'm working a couple days a week, but not a full week. . . but I really don't care. I worked 7 days a week for 8 years and with everything else I do, time off is like heaven...but in the end, it will be like the 'other world' when the bills start piling up.

without a doubt (OP)

I think the MT profession needs more respect, and no, we are not losers.  Its work smarter, not harder.  We earn what people with BA's earn, without the stress, in the comfort of our own home.  Who wants to be stressed their entire life??  The corporate world is taking over, but they are all having heart attacks in their 40s.

My hats off to you for going back to school.  Sometimes it takes a no choice situation for us to get out of our comfort zone, and just throw ourselves out there and see what income we can scare up.  The past couple years I have really been exploring my passions, and that is what I want to take into retirement, something I feel fulfilled doing.  Like you said, creatitivity. Even if I have to work 2-3 jobs.  Thanks for your post, I figured I wasn't the only one a little worried.

Don't know, I doubt it - sm
but perhaps a system restore if you have Windows XP

good luck
I doubt it.
,
I doubt you need it

If you are an employee, you don't need it for sure as the finish product belongs to them, not you.

If you are an IC with a contract that the notes belong to them/the provider, you don't need it.

If you are working for  a clinic on your own, always put a clause in there that either you don't support electronic signatures or the CYA "dictated but not read" at the bottom of the note.

In any case whatsoever, if you are doing your job properly you shouldn't have an issue.  Also it is very plainly the physcian's responsibility to read their notes before signing.  I know most don't but it falls on them.  We are not the MD, PA, whatever.  If you question things you think may not be right and don't guess, that should be enough.

Thanks, but I seriously doubt that she will--sm
It seems like she has already made her decision, as I have read previous posts from her on the same subject. Personally I think she knows this is a subject that is going to evoke responses and she is just trying to stir things up, but she is pointing her blaming finger in the wrong direction...in my opinion. I wish her luck.
Sorry, no doubt BOS says that..nm

#6 without a doubt
I was a legal secretary in litigation for many years.  Only time I worked under daily pressure like this was right before a trial and that wasn't that often and I got paid supremely well for it too, especially before a trial, and I didn't know squat compared to what I need to know to do this.  Then I ran a word processing/editing service with an emphasis on doctoral dissertations.  Compared to each, THIS is by far the most difficult.  We are typing and UNDERSTANDING and CORRECTING DICTATED ERRORS IN a foreign language all day under pressure day after day.  Our job requires education and experience and skills the former did not.  Besides that, what we do affects human lives and our mistakes will follow them the rest of their lives so we must be accurate.  By all means it deserves a least a #6, especially if we go EMR and most docs don't check our work and that's pricing it LOW.
I rather doubt that, but if that's what you
then go for it.

I actually don't send mine very much. But even if I send them just ONE question a month, they still gripe about it. Pulls them away from their potato-chip and cookie binge-eating and their soap-operas, I guess.
Yes no doubt you do
And if you are good at what you do, filling in the blanks, the more power to you. I am sure it is not an easy job unless you are a superduper MT/QA person with a ton of experience. There is no silver lining in QA work from your perspecti

with creating an electronic medical record; in fact, the documents may already be uploaded to an EMR format.  It sounds quite simple.  They are trying to save money.  I have had many clients over the years who operate in a similar fashion.  It's not something new.
I seriously doubt it

I think it is just when the doctor dictates an "abbreviation" such as 'insert my usual physical exam,' or something similar to that.  Obviously I can't know for sure, since I don't even know which company you are talking about, but it does say "after an abbreviation has been dictated," not transcribed.

I for one had little doubt when you

asked the question in the first place that Welfare would be your choice.

Why don't you rise to this new challenge in your life and get another job just to prove to us that you can pay your baby?  Do it just to spite all of us @*?ches.

I doubt she has done this very much
She says - To do this for a living, do all mt's have to be 100% accurate ALL the time? I thought that was what the editors were for or was I mistaken?
I am not new to this, just new to doing it full time at home (with no other job duties in between). I see no where she has told of any training, reminds me of another poster that came on her and never told where she had worked or if she had and asking questions, loads answering and yet did not know beans about the work.
eBay
My sister does eBay on and off but was doing it full time a couple of years ago and made probably $40K that year selling mostly popular dietary supplements.  She was able to find a distributor and then sold them at a profit on eBay.  She always tells people, watch infomercials, keep an eye on what is popular on eBay, find a distributor (I think this would be the hardest part), and figure out a competitive price.
eBay
I sell & buy on eBay. I was a MT in the cardiopulmonary dept of the hospital but needed to expand my terminology (went to nursing school in early 70s) and managed to purchase the entire 2005 ed. of the SUM program with all books & up-to-date reference materials for $0 with buying packages, keeping what was needed and reselling. This included a second Dell computer system, a dictaphone and new Infinity USB foot pedal. After completing this over the winter, I am hoping to transcribe from home as an IC. I did work for many years as a legal transcriptionist. I had to leave my hospital work due to health problems and am now on Social Security disability but am still able to do a limited amount of work from home, just at my own pace and only to earn under $700/month.

I guess I rambled on about this but my daughter and I have sold quite a bit over the last couple of years. We have our "eBay closet" where we pick up extremely cheap new items (such as we find on $1 racks) or sets after holidays. It's a fun way to earn a little extra money. She also sells her kid's clothes for way more than she would get at a garage sale. We just don't purchase large items that are hard to package & ship or are difficult to store.
ebay
Just remember you have to pay taxes on it now. Last year the IRS busted thousands of people for not reporting the income.
Try Ebay
:)
